Pathology service in developing countries is characterized by system delays: obtaining, processing, and reporting the result of biopsied samples, with consequent delay in instituting appropriate treatment. The broad objective of this study is to determine the impact of service delivery on the turn-around time of histopathological surgical biopsies in the Jos University Teaching Hospital. Specifically, the study investigated the impact of reliability, assurance, tangibility, empathy and responsiveness on the turn-around time of the laboratory. To meet these objectives, a questionnaire was developed and distributed to 308 patients that sought the service of the Histopathology laboratory department in the hospital. The research revealed a turn-around time of 3 days to 30 days with a mean of 12.83+3.14 days. The research established positive influence of tangibility and reliability (two of the five dimensions of service delivery) on turn-around time. The research also revealed that the remaining three dimensions of service delivery (assurance, empathy, and responsiveness) had no significant impact on turn-around time. This study has shown that the SERVQUAL tool of service delivery can be used in assessing turn-around time in the histopathological laboratory. This is novel as to the best of our knowledge this tool has never been employed in this regard. Furthermore, it brings to the fore the importance of tangibles and reliability as two important service delivery dimensions that have significant impact on the turn-around time of surgical biopsies in histopathological laboratories.

More than ever before, engineers are creating products for developing countries. One of the purposes of these products is to improve the consumer’s quality of life. Currently, there is no established method of measuring the social impact of these types of products. As a result, engineers have used their own metrics to assess their product’s impact, if at all. Some of the common metrics used include products sold and revenue, which measure the financial success of a product without recognizing the social successes or failures it might have. In this paper we introduce a potential metric, the Product Impact Metric (PIM), which quantifies the impact a product has on impoverished individuals — especially those living in developing countries. It measures social impact broadly in five dimensions: health, education, standard of living, employment quality, and security. The PIM is inspired by the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) created by the United Nations Development Programme. The MPI measures how the depth of poverty within a nation changes year after year, and the PIM measures how an individual’s quality of life changes after being affected by an engineered product. The Product Impact Metric can be used to predict social impacts (using personas that represent real individuals) or measure social impacts (using specific data from products introduced into the market).

This study aims to examine the impact of specific dimensions of tourism impacts on Hong Kong residents’ satisfaction with the quality of life. While factor analysis is used to explore the attributes and dimensions of tourism impacts, multiple regression analysis is employed to determine the tourism impacts on residents’ satisfaction with the quality of life. It is evident from the results that two of the five dimensions of tourism impacts have positive influence on residents’ satisfaction. Image and infrastructure are found to be the important determinant factors in explaining the satisfaction. The impacts of environment, economy, and services in affecting satisfaction seem to be insignificant. In order to maintain tourism sustainability in Hong Kong, the local residents’ perception should be taken into consideration. Recommendations are provided to achieve mutual benefits and harmonious development.

Financial inclusion ensures financial products and services at reasonable rates for individuals and aims to introduce unbanked people into banking and financial services. The study aims to explore the effect that mobile banking facilities have on financial inclusion in 17 developing countries. From 2011 to 2017, this study took data from the three dimensions of financial inclusion called "Penetration," "Access," and "Uses". This paper took the Sarma model of Index of Financial Inclusion (IFI) to measure financial inclusion. This paper incorporates mobile money accounts as a "penetration" variable and Mobile banking outlet as an "Access" variable with existing model variables to quantify the effect of mobile banking. This research finds that mobile banking positively impacts the selected countries, though the degree of the changes is not symmetric. African regional countries have improved their financial inclusion after introducing mobile banking much better compared to other regions. This study is limited to examining mobile banking effects on selected emerging countries only. Future research may be devoted to developing more innovative strategies and tools to reach out to unbanked people, including people who face disparities in mobile phone ownership and bandwidth allocation.

Purpose Effective performance management of local governments is essential for efficient service delivery to the citizens. This is especially true for developing countries where performance management of public sector is severely lacking. The purpose of this paper is to discuss a pioneering and effective performance management framework that has been implemented in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach The paper outlines the design and implementation of the system in light of relevant research work. Latest digital technologies including smartphone applications and social media have been used to make the system effective and responsive to the needs of the citizens and sustainable in the long term. Findings The impact of the system includes a drastic reduction in polio infection cases by 90 percent in the province and the successful completion of one of the biggest afforestation campaigns in the world in recent years. In addition, noteworthy improvements in public health, education and municipal services have also been achieved through this system in a province that has a population of 30.5 m. Research limitations/implications The paper uses field data to highlight the positive impact of the system which has been operational for more than two years now. Practical implications The strong positive impact of the system supports the case for implementation of similar public sector reforms in other developing countries. Social implications The implementation of the system has resulted in significant improvements in social sector service delivery. Originality/value There is very limited literature available on successful performance management reforms in the public sector of the developing world. Therefore, this case study can be a very important resource.

It has been debated that effective essential public services delivery is crucial to inculcate inclusive growth in cities over the past decades. Cities continue to be central to the debate; however, the current study focuses on industrial towns. As industrial towns' development around cities attract investment and promote economic growth, the present research studies the impact of essential public services delivery on promoting inclusive growth for inhabitants of industrial towns in developing countries. Human Capabilities Dimension Approach and its parameters (Social and Physical Infrastructure) have been employed to explore the role of basic amenities in transferring growth levels across all population sections. The idea explored is studied through Mandideep Industrial Town's case study, where six parameters (Physical and socioeconomic status, water supply, sanitation, health care facilities, education facilities), and perceived inclusive growth have been considered for data collection and analysis. Indicators under each parameter are analyzed based on the 4A's-Availability, Accessibility, Awareness, and Affordability. Site selection revolved around a city reconnaissance survey and Household survey for 200 households. Aggregated analysis for the city and ward-wise comparative analysis and statistical correlation tools were used to establish a relationship between basic public services delivery and perceived inclusive growth. The research aims to study and establish a correlation between public service delivery and perceived inclusive growth by the industrial town's inhabitants. Discussions following data analysis led to recommendations for city and ward-level. The importance of efficient service delivery for increased perception of inclusive growth is established. Along with the six parameters considered for the study, physical and environmental planning emerge as crucial parameters that impact other public services for enhanced inclusive growth in industrial cities. Doi: 10.28991/cej-2021-03091648 Full Text: PDF

Objective: To review the literature on the responses of individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) to natural disasters, to describe the impact of the 1998 Ice Storm on a group of SMI patients, and to describe the steps taken at a Canadian university teaching hospital to ensure the ongoing provision of mental health services throughout the crisis. Method: Published articles describing the impact of natural disasters on SMI populations, as well as service provision to these patients, are reviewed. Service use at the Montreal General Hospital (MGH) Department of Psychiatry is described. A questionnaire about the impact of the ice storm was administered to a group of patients in an assertive community treatment program. Results: Service use during this natural disaster was consistent with that described in the literature, in that these patients were no more likely to be admitted or to visit the emergency room during the crisis. Continuous mental health service delivery may have contributed to this positive outcome. This service delivery was provided by ensuring staff access to information, by securing the physical safety of both staff and patients, and by taking a flexible, outreach-oriented approach to service delivery. Conclusions: SMI patients who have ongoing access to psychiatric services in disaster situations tend to cope well. A flexible, proactive, assertive approach to service delivery during the crisis situation will help to ensure that needs for care will be met.

This document aims to study the role played by the five dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation on corporate performance. To test our hypotheses, we used a sample of companies headquartered in Argentina. To collect the data, we used a questionnaire that was sent by e-mail to the owner and/or manager of the companies. At the end of the survey, 214 Argentine companies (21.4% of the sample) completed the questionnaire. The sampling was carried out with a stratified random approach to improve the efficiency of the estimates and ensure the representativeness of the extracted sample. To assess the reliability of the results, quantitative statistical tools were used. The analysis results show that not all variables have a significant influence on performance. In particular, three dimensions of the EO (innovation, proactivity, and risk) have a significant and positive influence on the performance of companies. Conversely, competitive aggressiveness and autonomy do not have a significant impact on performance or they are not relevant.

Abstract:  This research aims to find out how much impact the students' conceptual understanding of the material is flat on the learning outcomes of the three dimensions of class X MA. Hidayatul Muhsinin Labulia. This study uses a quantitative approach to the type of Ex Post Facto design causality relationship that is causal relationships. This study uses a population research whose total number is 109 students consisting of classes XA, XB and XC. The results of the study showed that the impact of understanding the flat wake concept was quite a positive effect on the learning outcomes of three dimensions. This can be seen in the results of the study by giving tests to 109 students. The relationship between understanding the concept of flat wake and three dimensional learning outcomes is 0.668 or 66.8%, this means that the correlation between understanding the concept of flat wake and three dimensional learning outcomes is sufficient, according to existing criteria. The influence between the understanding of the concept of flat wake and the third dimension of learning outcomes is 0.447 or 44.7%. While the regression equation between understanding the concept of flat wake and three dimensional learning outcomes is Y = 8.831 + 0.934 X, this explains that the relationship between understanding the concept of flat wake with learning outcomes of three dimensions is unidirectional (positive) or in other words that, if the level of understanding concept wake up high then it will result in high three dimensional learning outcomes too, and vice versa. Based on these explanations, it can be concluded that there is a positive influence on understanding the concept of flat building on the results of three dimensional learning.
