The article is devoted to the theoretical analysis of a number of works of domestic and foreign linguists in which approaches to language learning in a pragmatic aspect are defined. As a result of generalization of various approaches of researchers, the author revealed the main task of pragmatics, which consists in establishing the patterns of the use of linguistic means for the purpose of directed influence on the addressee in the communication process. Within the framework of P. Grice’s theory, implicatures are considered as conversational or communicative, as well as conventional. At the same time, the metaphorical interpretation is analyzed within the framework of the theory of speech acts. The role of euphemistic units involved in the formation of a certain, predetermined by the addressee, evaluative opinion is shown. The article reveals the potential of the study of precedent phenomena in a pragmatic aspect. The key problems of linguopragmatics are analyzed: connotations and additional (background) information as a necessary component of communication.

The role of textbooks as one of the main sources of language input in addition to the teacher and other learners cannot be ignored in the process of language learning, especially in EFL contexts since learners mostly rely on textbooks for second language learning. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the evaluation of the textbooks to meet the needs of both teachers and learners.  As such, the purpose of this research is to analyze and evaluate the pragmatic information of Top-Notch Intermediate textbooks which are used in most EFL institutes in Iran.  Specifically, the article investigates the linguistic presentation of speech acts in the textbooks and the provision of sufficient contextual and meta-pragmatic information for the facilitation of learning the speech acts. The results indicated that there are three typical ways of presenting speech acts in the textbooks 1) using dialogues in conversation models, 2) using lists of expressions, and 3) using dialogues as well as the grammar section. In addition, there is inadequate contextual and meta-pragmatic information in terms of the speech acts included in the textbooks. The article also has some implications for teachers, materials writers and textbook designers in terms of the pragmatic aspect of the target language.

Transformations of the semantics of language units in a literary text were studied. Semantic shifts resulting from this process were correlated with individual author’s ideas about the world and were defined as the most important means of influencing the reader. The research was carried out on the basis of a functional approach, in which the text is considered as a tool of social interaction, the structure of which is subordinated to the main task of the author, i.e., to have a certain impact on the reader’s view of the world. As a result of the analysis of the empirical material, it was concluded that the perception and understanding of the text are largely determined by the skills that enable identification of the core component in the text, which unites the most significant language units in the text based on their correlation in the initial and final parts of the work. Specific examples were given to show the role of semantic transformations in the process of text perception and their importance for interpretation. The research confirms the relevance of the problem of studying the functional mechanism of semantic transformations, because the consistent implementation of the functional methods of perception and interpretation of the text in educational practice will be helpful in developing teaching methods that prevent distortion of information extracted from texts.

Annotation: The relevance of this study is due to its connection with the modern direction of language learning - cognitive linguistics, which makes it possible to identify the specifics of the representation of human knowledge, including evaluative ones, in the semantics of linguistic units. The prospect of the cognitive approach in studying the processes of evaluative conceptualization and evaluative categorization is explained by the fact that it makes it possible to assess the role of a person in the perception and evaluation of the surrounding reality and the formation of evaluative values, taking into account the interaction of cognitive and linguistic factors. Accordingly, the evaluative categories "good" and "bad" in this study are considered from the point of view of the mental processes of evaluative conceptualization and evaluative categorization and their refraction in linguistic meanings. Keywords: concept, language, linguacultural study, linguacultural concept "bad", linguacultural concept "good", linguistic materialization of a concept, linguacultural research.

Abstract Context.—Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the fourth most common cause of cancer death worldwide. Patient cases are discussed in multidisciplinary meetings to decide on the best management on an individual basis. Until recently, the main task of the pathologist in such teams was to provide clinically useful reports comprising staging of colorectal cancer in surgical specimens. The advent of total mesorectal excision and the application of anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)–targeted therapies for selected patients with metastasized colorectal cancer have changed the role of the pathologist. Objectives.—To present the traditional role of the pathologist in the multidisciplinary team treating patients with colorectal cancer, to address the technique of total mesorectal excision and its implications for the evaluation of surgical specimens, to offer background information on the various EGFR-targeted therapies, and to review the currently investigated tissue biomarkers assumed to be predictive for efficacy of such therapies, with a focus on the role of the pathologist in determining the status of such biomarkers in individual tumors. Data Sources.—This article is based on selected articles pertaining to biopsy evaluation of colorectal carcinoma and reviews of EGFR-targeted therapies for this cancer. All references are accessible via the PubMed database (US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health). Conclusions.—Pathologists play an increasingly important role in the diagnosis and management of colorectal cancer because of the advent of new surgical techniques and of targeted therapies. It is expected that this role will increase further in the near future.

Questions of conceptualization of notions are main in recognizing the meanings emerging in the communication process. All levels of the linguistic system are involved in the conceptualization of the surrounding world. In people's minds there are concepts represented lexically, morphologically and syntactically. The role of prosody in the formation of concepts is not investigated yet. The aim of the paper is to validate the process of conceptualization of illocutionary acts on the basis of the perception of the prosodic structure of spoken utterances in a speech interaction. In modern linguistics there are different approaches to the definition of the concept. This article briefly reviews some definitions specific for native linguistics. The notion of the concept being the basis of the present research is a mental image of reality around us, which is stored in the human mind and arises at verbal or visual perception of the linguistic sign. Speech act should be seen as a concept of the speech actions / behavior in a particular situation. It forms both at the level of vocabulary, and at the participation of the prosodic components of speech. Especially the role of prosody increases in the case of one-way communication in the illocutivs with the same lexical composition but different prosodic structures. The factors that determine the formation of concepts of speech acts, are the level stratifications of tone and volume, temporary compression or extension of different zones of expression, rhythm and character of syllabic stress. These phenomena are due to national features and may influence the flow of cross-cultural communication.

This article is devoted to the analysis of the speech act of disagreement and the ways of its expression in the Russian language. The relevance of this study is due to the increasing role of the study of speech acts of disagreement in the communication process and the necessity and importance of the study of means of implementation. Students studying a foreign language acquire a broad theoretical knowledge of the foreign language, but in practice they face many difficulties. In communication interference occurs. Interference inhibits the assimilation of a foreign language. In order to overcome the interference in learning a second language, it is necessary to pay attention to the pragmatic aspects of the language. This study shows that there are different direct and indirect ways of expressing disagreement.

The purpose and tasks of the work are to analyze the contemporary Ukrainian mass culture in terms of its value and humanistic components, as well as the importance of cultural studies and Ukrainian studies in educational disciplines for the formation of a holistic worldview of modern youth.Analysis of research and publications. Scientists repeatedly turned to the problems of the role of spirituality in the formation of society and its culture. This problem is highlighted in the publications by O. Losev, V. Lytvyn, D. Likhachev, S. Avierintsev, M. Zakovych, I. Stepanenko and E. Kostyshyn.Experts see the main negative impact of mass culture on the quality approach, which determines mass culture through the market, because mass culture, from our point of view, is everything that is sold and used in mass demand. One of the most interesting studies on this issue was the work by the representatives of Frankfurt School M. Horkheimer and T. Adorno «Dialectics of Enlightenment» (1947), devoted to a detailed analysis of mass culture. Propaganda at all socio-cultural levels in the form is similar in both totalitarian and democratic countries. It is connected, according to the authors, with the direction of European enlightenment. The tendency to unify people is a manifestation of the influence of mass culture, from cinema to pop. Mass culture is a phenomenon whose existence is associated with commerce (accumulation in any form – this is the main feature of education), in general, the fact that it exists in this form is related to the direction of the history of civilization.Modern mass culture, with its externally attractive and easily assimilated ideas and symbols, appealing to the trends of modern fashion, becomes a standard of prestigious consumption, does not require intense reflection, allows you to relax, distract, not teach, but entertains, preaches hedonism as the main spiritual value. And as a consequence, there are socio-cultural risks: an active rejection of other people, which leads to the formation of indifference; cruelty as a character trait; increase of violent and mercenary crime; increase in the number of alcohol and drug addicts; anti-patriotism; indifference to the values of the family and as a result of social orphanhood and prostitution. Conclusions, perspectives of research. Thus, we can conclude that modern Ukrainian education is predominantly formed by the values of mass culture. Namely, according to the «Dialectic» by Horkheimer and Adorno, «semi-enlightenment becomes an objective spirit» of our modern society. It is concluded that only high-quality education can create the opposite of the onset of mass culture and the destruction of spirituality in our society. It is proved that only by realizing the importance of cultivating disciplines in the educational process and the spiritual upbringing of the nation, through educational reforms, humanitarian knowledge will gradually return to student audiences.Formation of youth occurs under the influence of social environment, culture, education and self-education. The optimal combination of these factors determines both the process of socialization itself and how successful it will be. In this context, one can see the leading role of education and upbringing. It turns out that the main task of modern education is to spread its influence on the development of spiritual culture of the individual, which eventually becomes a solid foundation for the formation of the individual. Such a subject requires both philosophical and humanitarian approaches in further integrated interdisciplinary research, since the availability of such research will provide the theoretical foundation for truly modern educational and personal development.
