The success of a company needs employees who are competent, experienced and strong. Islamic insurance companies certainly require employees who have knowledge about insurance in accordance with Islamic sharia principles. In the case of the Islamic insurance company Bumi Putera Palembang in 2015 to 2016 there are 40 insurance policyholders who worked in a government agency to terminate the employment relationship between the insurance and policyholders. This is because there is no transparency related to monthly installment payments that should be proven by a deposit or proof of receipt of payment in full by the field agent to the policy holder. This is not in line with the principles of Islamic insurance, namely avoiding the elements of gharar, maysir and usury. Islam emphasizes aspects of justice, likes and likes and togetherness faces risks in every effort and investment pioneered. This aspect is the concept offer to replace gharar, maysir and riba that have been happening in conventional institutions. The focus of research is on the competency of agents (wakalah) in the sharia Islamic Bumi Putera insurance company in the city of Palembang. The result is obtained from the conclusions of six indicators and evidenced by the table of productive reports of agents related to product marketing that human resources in agents /wakalah Bumi Putera Syariah Life Insurance have not described competency and professionalism. This can be seen from the lack of insurance products sold, attitudes to field issues and the achievement of the target customers determined by the company. Keywords: Insurance Agent Competency, Bumi Putera Syariah

AbstractThis paper focuses on Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and strategic business management for health insurance companies in our world of ‘unknown unknowns’ and the emergence of unexpected risks over time. It illustrates how Chief Risk Officers (CROs) can focus on ‘risk and opportunity management’ through an ERM framework, and thereby balance risks against opportunities, whilst being resilient against ‘unknown unknowns’ and their emergence over time as ‘known unknowns’ and ‘known knowns’. The paper has been designed to meet the broad requirements of health insurers that would like to implement an ERM framework for the effective risk management of their health insurance lines of business. Risk management for health insurers in the context of Solvency II and broader European Commission regulatory requirements is also discussed. The authors discuss how insurers can develop and apply risk management to build resilience in the face of the storms and shocks that may lie ahead.

Mr M. R. Kipling, F.I.A.: This paper is entitled Governance and Risk Management in United Kingdom Insurance Companies. It is a very timely paper in light of the recent publication of the Turner review which, among other things, covers the governance of UK financial institutions.Mr S. P. Deighton, F.I.A. (introducing the paper): The paper is the first formal output from the Research and Thought Leadership subcommittee of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Practice Executive Committee (PEC). It may seem odd, therefore, that it contains no original research. There is not an equation in sight, and there is only one token diagram. This is because the most important of its key themes is that there is much more to ERM than complex models and fancy mathematics. There are a number of areas associated with ERM. One of them is understanding the wider governance framework within which an insurance company must operate, and hence the introduction to that subject at the beginning of the paper. The second is how to run the very detailed identification and mitigation of the myriad of small risks across a wide group which is at the other end of the spectrum to the multi-million pound derivative transactions that manage equity risk. Our paper sees this as indistinguishable from the internal control framework that a company needs in order to comply on the governance front.

The growth of sharia insurance in Indonesia continues to occur. This is a sign that the people in Indonesia have good risk management because the company's growth is supported by the increase in customers in sharia insurance companies. This condition must be supported again by the conditions in which the company has a good performance, so the company must find a way to continue to improve its performance. This study is aimed to determine the effect of leverage, firm size, and company age on the financial performance of sharia companies. The method used is through quantitative research using multiple regression. The method of data collection uses a purposive sampling technique carried out to all populations, namely all Islamic insurance companies in Indonesia from 2012 to 2018. The results of the study show that leverage and age of the company do not succeed in influencing financial performance, while firm size has a positive effect on financial performance. Therefore it is important for companies to continue to increase their assets, especially in collecting funds from the public as the company's ingredients in managing their finances to improve their financial performance.
Keywords: Age, Financial Performance, Leverage, Size
