This paper aims to reveal and explain the dynamics of Islamic boarding school kiyai in relation to national politics and review the repositioning of the role of the kyai in the dynamics of national politics. Although there have been many analyzes regardingthe role of the kyai, the fact is that the ups and downs of the pesantren's kiyai position are increasingly visible. This can be proven by the practical involvement of the kyai in politics so that it has an impact on the existence of the pesantren education institutions that they manage. The results of the author's analysis illustrate that it is time for the kiyai to return to their central role as the main figure in the management of pesantren, this is important to do so that the existence of pesantren inthe modern era is maintained and focuses on reformulation of the bastion of morals and morals of the ummah which is increasingly worrying. The reformulation that the author offers is through the internalization and adaptation of modern civilization for kyai and focuses on improvements in educational institutions, both in the fields of economy, socio-culture, and technology.

Ali Bin Abi Talib once said that children should be educated in accordance with the  development of the times. The Ali bin Abi Talib’s statement could be considered as his attention more to the development of human civilization. For that reason, there should be studies focused on the role of educational institutions in facing the challenges of the times. On this stand, the writer raises the existence of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) for being considered to have been able to survive amid the onslaught of civilization increasingly obscuring cultural identity. In addition, this study also aims to identify and discuss the role of pesantren in the modern era. This is a literature study using a descriptive and exploratory approach. It can be concluded that pesantren are non-formal Islamic educational institutions. Pesantren have permanent and distictive methods and learning models. The purpose of pesantren education is the same as Islamic education in general, instilling a sense of virtue, familiarizing themselves with courtesy, preparing for a holy, sincere and honest life entirely. Pesantren could be seen from three aspects: (a) pesantren that are seen from facilities and infrastructures, (b) pesantren that are seen from disciplines taught, and (c) pesantren that are seen from the fields of knowledge.

The development plan of the Islamic Boarding School in the middle of the times it is not impossible to do. As the oldest educational institutions in Indonesia, Islamic Boarding School is an educational institution that is civilized. The development of Islamic boarding school can be done through two aspects; boarding school as an educational unit and boarding school as a place of education units. Islamic Boarding School as an educational unit in the form of Muaddalah Islamic Boarding School while boarding school as a place of education unit is a main unit of doing other educational institutions. Development of the Islamic Boarding School can also be developed through the role of Islamic Boarding Schools that do not merely act as an educational institution, but also serves as a social institutions and economic institutions of society.

This modern era of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia at least begins with the Muhammadiyah movement as a public school plus and loving the Qur'an. In addi- tion to developing schools as "public schools plus loving the Qur'an", Muhammadiyah also developed a "Boarding School" (boarding school) which was initially criticized but continued to be developed eventually being accepted by the community, because it could answer the educational needs of the community. At present some Muhammadiyah schools that do not yet have boarding or boarding schools continue to develop Boarding Schools, with One Day Boarding Schools can improve student performance and also have a significant role to support the advancement of school programs. If the learning process is effective and efficient, it will increase students' interest in learning, so students will understand the material presented and have an impact on increasing student learn- ing achievement. It can be seen that various kinds of learning achievement are achieved in accordance with the vision and mission of the school, ranging from the development of Islamic values (Islamic Value Implementation), the formation of children's morals, life skill development, language development, development of academic achievement. The vision and mission achieved is in accordance with the institution that I examined, namely in MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Taman.

Salaf pesantren is an institution that is still strongly bound by old traditions. Answering the needs of the era, schools Salaf open formal educational institutions. Sensitivitypesantren Salaf against the phenomena that appear in the society is a social concern and reflexive owned evenare characteristic. So that the aspirations of the people making the boarding school received the developmentand advancement of science and technology. The real step taken is establishing formal educational institutionsfrom kindergarten through college. The character of a scholar is asceticism and totality. On the other hand,people still expect the efficacy of the function and role of pesantren Salaf like period once, without knowing thatit is actually what is expected it is experiencing overcast condition and shrinkage. Expenses are given the addedweight and more and more, but the ability to lift a boarding school in general was declining. Source overcastcondition and depreciation mainly boils down to the weight and quality of the “clerics who brought up”. Kiai as community leaders have a big role in the efforts of national intelligence. Through pesantren education institutions, kiyai eradicate ignorance. Kyai and his pesantren are the lighters of society. The knowledge of religion and general was concocted by the kyai to equip the students to achieve a more noble future. This paper analyzes the role of KH. Ahmad Sanusi in educating the community through the establishment of Islamic educational institutions. This study uses a literature study approach. The author searches for information through books written by figures and books written by other people about KH. Ahmad Sanusi. This study found that KH. Ahmad Sanusi played a very important role in the intellectualization of the nation. Especially in West Java. The educational institutions he founded, including the Genteng Islamic Boarding School, the Gunung Puyuh Islamic Boarding School and the AII School, have given birth to many scholars in West Java. KH students. Ahmad Sanusi established educational institutions in other areas. So that the spread of the influence of Ahmad Sanusi's vision of education in West Java is massive

The aim of the article is to show the sociological elements in the education process that are present in Korczak’s pedagogy, both in its scientific form as well as in his fiction aimed directly at children. Therefore, society with its educational institutions (family, school, boarding school) is recognized in this pedagogy as an important sphere of symbolic references and educational influences. The key role of society (as the most important educational institution) in shaping pupils is present in commonly known works on the sociology of upbringing (including Florian Znaniecki or Józef Chałasiński), while sociological threads in Korczak’s pedagogy have not been a popular topic of separate analysis so far, apart from one monograph devoted to the subject. Therefore, this topic requires in-depth analyses and afterthought. Janusz Korczak emphasizes the role of society in a child’s life, preparing them primarily for participation in social relations, through diverse forms of group life at school, whose most important achievement is the institution of student self-government. It is thus a bridge between student-oriented education and the traditional pedagogical message, involving the transmission of the requirements of specific social roles.

Abstract The “Ayo Mondok” Movement is part of the pesantren's response to modernity. In the modern era like this, there are still many Muslim societies in Indonesia that make pesantren a reference for formal and informal educational institutions. Indeed, initially the pesantren was only traditional and only aimed to explore the science of religion. However, along with the modernization of the times, Islamic boarding schools have not only become institutions to explore religious sciences but also general science. This paper explains the history and development of pesantren, and how the system of pesantren education answers the challenges of modernity. To get the desired results, the research library was chosen by researchers as the research method in this study. The results of this study reveal that Islamic boarding schools are a gathering place for santri to get religious knowledge from a cleric. The beginning of the pesantren was only a simple hut which was built as a makeshift with the aim of getting closer to the kyai or the teacher intended for the purposes of studying religion. While the system of pesantren education is still using the book of salaf or more familiarly called kitab kuning.   Keywords: Islamic Boarding School, Modernity and Islamic Education   Abstrak Gerakan Ayo Mondok merupkan bagian dari respon pesantren menghadapi modernitas. Di era modern seperti ini, masyarakat Muslim di Indonesia masih banyak yang menjadikan pesantren sebagai rujukan lembaga pendidikan formal maupun informal. Memang pada awalnya pesantren hanya bersifat tradisional dan hanya bertujuan untuk mendalami ilmu agama saja. Akan tetapi seiring dengan modernisasi zaman, pesantren tidak hanya menjadi lembaga untuk mendalami ilmu agama saja tetapi juga ilmu umum. Tulisan ini menjelaskan tentang sejarah dan perkembangan pesantren, dan bagaimana sistem pendidikan pesantren menjawab tantangan modernitas. Untuk mendapatkan hasil yang diinginkan, maka  library research dipilih oleh peneliti sebagai metode penelitian dalam studi ini. Hasil dari kajian ini mengungkapkan bahwa pesantren merupakan tempat berkumpulnya para santri untuk mendapatkan ilmu agama dari seorang kyai. Awal mula pesantren hanya berupa pondok sederhana yang dibangun seadanya dengan tujuan untuk mendekatkan diri kepada kyai atau guru yang dituju untuk keperluan menimba ilmu agama. Sedangkan sistem pendidikan pesantren sampai sekarang masih tetap menggunakan kitab salaf atau lebih familiar disebut kitab kuning.   Kata Kunci: Pesantren, Modernitas dan Pendidikan Islam

Pondok Pesantren is one of the oldest educational institutions in Indonesia. The significance of the kiai's role in the boarding school is directly proportional to his leadership in managing and directing the entire community in his cottage, especially the students and their influence in society. While the model in leading his Islamic boarding school, each kiai has his own method for advancing his pesantren. This happened because of the kiai's focus on developing his boarding school and the environmental conditions of the surrounding community. This article was describe how the leadership role of kiai in Islamic boarding schools in developing the institutions. This research  was descriptive research methods with a qualitative research approach. The main finding in the researcher was the figure of a kiai with his charismatic character that able to have a positive effect in the development of the Islamic boarding schools. Islamic boarding school as a social institution that experiences dialectics both inside and outside the boarding school which is a projection of the boarding school community itself. The role of Islamic boarding schools which initially focused on character and religious education, now forces them to make changes internally such as the education system, social construction and public and religious education providers including political education. The purpose of this activity is to increase awareness of the importance of political education for students, increase understanding of political education in contrast to politics for students and increase understanding of the importance of political education as an effort to educate students as NKRI people who embrace the Pancasila Democracy. This community service method uses a social approach by analyzing the situation of khalayk or certain organizations, namely santri. The results of this activity show the understanding of the students of Miftahul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Mentaraman Village, Donomulyo District initially argued that political behavior is bad behavior, but after it was conveyed that so far in daily life political behavior has been unconsciously realized. With this activity in the form of national political education it is hoped that it can increase students 'knowledge about national politics, in addition it is expected to further increase students' awareness that politics is not negative behavior.

This study aims to 1)  determine the reasons for the formation of religious students and daily behavior at MTs Daar El Qolam Gintung. 2) find out the daily behavior of students at MTs Daar El Qolam Gintung. 3)  find out the efforts of the Aqidah Akhlak teacher in forming Religiosity and Daily Behavior at MTs Daar El Qolam Gintung. This type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Meanwhile, the research sources are the leaders, Islamic boarding schools, the head of the care section, the head of the worship department, the principal, the teacher / teacher and the students. The data collection technique is done through interviews and observation and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out using data collection, data reduction, data presentation and data conclusion. The findings in this study are the role of aqidah akhlak teacher in shaping the daily behavior of students at MTs Daar El Qolam 1 Gintung, 1) as a guide, aqidah akhlak teacher to motivate and give advice to students to always do good. 2) acting as an educator, namely teaching according to norms and rules. 3) as an evaluator, aqidah akhlak teacher always admonishes and gives advice to students who violate the rules, give sanctions to students who violate the rules. It is hoped that this research will be useful for the Daar el-Qolam Islamic boarding school in particular and also benefit other educational institutions so that it can be implemented properly and correctly.
