Purpose: The general objective of the study is to assess the factors influencing the rate of vocation to be a brother in Holy Cross Congregation in East Africa. The objectives that guided the study are; to explore how social status influence vocation to be a brother; to examine how the factor of being a clerical congregation may be influencing vocation to a brother; to determine how the need for professional career satisfaction influences vocation to be a brother, to  investigate how different motivations influences vocation to be a brother and  to identify possible ways of responding to challenges of vocation to be a brother in Holy Cross Congregation in East Africa. Methodology: The study used convergent parallel approach to the mixed methods research design. The target population in this study is107 and used Total Population Sampling to study the 107 respondents. The study used interview guide and self-administered questionnaire for data collection. The quantitative data will be coded and analyzed systematically and presented using figure, percentages and chats. The qualitative data was analyzed according to the emerging themes and the results of both the quantitative and qualitative findings were compared to draw out their significance for the study. Findings: The study established that social status, lack of awareness and perception that clerical vocation is more prestigious and glamorous than that of brotherhood are some of the factors affecting reduced vocations in brotherhood. Unique contribution to theory, policy, and practice: The study recommends the need for a rigorous promotion of brotherhood vocations, training of brothers as professionals, uplift the status of brothers and put in place proper discernment of vocations to reduce the high rate of brothers’ turnover

Purpose: The Purpose of the study was to establish Critical factors influencing implementation of road projects.Methodology: The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The target population of the study was all the road engineers, middle managers in department of KRB. The sample size was 188 respondents. Data collected was cleaned, pretested, validated, and coded, summarized and analyzed using statistical package of SPSS V23.  The study findings were presented using graphs, histograms, bar charts and pie charts.  Conclusions were derived based on the P.value and the coefficient of determination.  Results: The study found that the key significant determinants of sustainability of water projects in Machakos County were capacity of the project management, government policies, monitoring and resource support. The study concluded that project management capacity had the greatest determinant ofsustainabilityofwater projects in Machakos County, followed by resource support, then monitoring while government policy had the least determinant of sustainability of water projects in Machakos County.Contribution to policy and practice: The study recommends that the government should advocate for proper planning with involvement of the benefiting community and timely implementation with the required results. This can be done through making of a policy by the ministry demanding for the practice of the same by the involved organizations. The project committee should set up financial structures considering both rising of funds and dissemination of the same in relation to operating and maintaining of the project. This can be done through learning and training on the same. The study also recommended that water beneficiaries and management should be sensitized to improve their knowledge on conservation and protection of water facilities.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to ascertain which financial factors affect the price-to-earnings ratios of Canadian firms. Methodology: A sample of 578 Canadian firms, across 11 industries, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange during 2011 to 2018 is examined. Stock prices and financial statements accounts data is collected from S & P Capital IQ. We compute 27 financial factors to use as independent variables to regress on the price-to-earnings ratio dependent variables employing the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) utilizing the software program’s forced, forward, and backward selection methods. Robustness tests are conducted using alternative dates (after the fiscal year end) to discover which model of financial factors best explains the forward price-to-earnings ratio as well as other statistical methods such as analysis of variance. Results: We find a unique model for each of the 3 models based on the forward price-to-earnings ratio date. The financial factors that explain each of the dates after the end of the fiscal year (1 month, 2 months, and 3 months) are the 4 variables: net profit margin, return on investment, total asset turnover, and the natural logarithm of the total assets. For model 3 (1 month after fiscal year end), in addition to the previous 4 factors, the dividends per share is part of the regression equation. All 3 models have strong statistically significant results at an alpha level of one percent. Further, industry effects are deduced and presented. Unique contribution to theory, policy, and practice: The results are unique to a Canadian sample of firms post- International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) adoption. Companies can utilize the empirical findings to manage their financial performance to maximize their price-to-earnings ratio. A product of a firm’s higher price-to-earnings ratio is a lower cost of capital which expands the corporation’s investment opportunities. Investors can apply this research to develop investment strategies hinged on price-to-earnings ratios to augment investment returns.

Purpose: Assess the knowledge and attitude towards the nurses in the clinical practices to identify the level of awareness of nurses and improve their practice to minimize and prevent the risk of complications, as well as to improve patient outcomes. Methodology: The cross sectional descriptive study design was used in the research. Target population was the staff nurses of the Govt hospital Lahore. The inclusion criteria was cardiac surgery ICU nurses in the hospital Lahore expressed the willingness of participation for this study were included after taking the consent. The sample size of the study was 100 nurses Results: The study showed variations in the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses, most of which reflected in their nursing practice their knowledge between the poor and the average. Many nurses have not been aware of the suggested practice and amounts have shown possibly of practice. The research also raised concern about all aspects of Nursing Diagnosis and highlighted the criteria for practice improvements and developed body of knowledge. Unique contribution to theory, policy and practice: The study recommended the need for extensive improvements in the knowledge and practice of nurses by using the nursing diagnosis in the clinical for each nurse., It is the duty of nurses to develop a body of knowledge in their field of work, to promote the growth and personal development of local practice, to recognize knowledge gaps, to pursue appropriate training and resources, and to base all practice on facts.

 This study is an attempt to explore the essential factors that affect the Speaking Skill of English language learners (ELLs). Its primary objective is to give an analysis of the perspective of the participants in respect of the central factors influencing the speaking skill. The knowledge of the participants concerning the issues pertinent to the speaking skill is presented. The study adopts a mixed-methods research approach: a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. A structured questionnaire and interviews are instruments of data collection which are analyzed statistically and descriptively. The study lays emphasis on the significance of the speaking skill. After presenting the literature review, it sheds light on factors that affect the speaking skill. Following this, features of the speaking skill are highlighted. The findings of the study signals that there are methodological, linguistic-related and psychological factors influencing the speaking skill of ELLs. And the most influential factors are oral practice, range of vocabulary and self-confidence.

Purpose: To establish the factors affecting employee retention in Non-Governmental Organizations in Nairobi County, Kenya.Methodology: The study embraced descriptive research design in order to provide a framework to examine current conditions, trends and status of events. The study targeted the 47 registered Non-Governmental Organizations in Nairobi County, the target population was all the Executive Directors and the Human Resource directors (total=92).  A questionnaire was designed to collect information that contain open ended and closed ended questions. Data was analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. This is because descriptive statistics helps to describe the data collected and aim to summarize a sample while inferential statistics are used to interpret the meaning of descriptive statistics besides making propositions about populations and so helps in drawing conclusions.    The filled in questionnaires were collected, cleaned, coded and fed in the computer for analysis by SPSS V22 for both descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: The findings of this study suggested that a clear Leadership positively influences the employee retention in NGO’s in Kenya. The corresponding change in retention can be explained by a unit change in Leadership clarity with the constant. The research found out that Rewards has a positive influence on employee retention in NGO’s in Kenya. The corresponding change in the employee retention in NGO’s in Kenya can be explained by a unit change in Rewards. Rewards determine the organizational strategy.Contributions to policy and practice: Expansion of Leadership space to facilitate access by staff and other stakeholders through allocation of more resources towards development. Rewards play a key role in motivating employees, hence retention in the NGO sector in Kenya. The study recommends more policies developed around rewarding of employees.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of headteachers’ involvement of female teachers on girls’ access to primary education in Garissa Sub-County, Garissa County, Kenya. The study was guided by the Management Practices and Pearson’s Gender Relations Theories. Methodology: The study adopted mixed methodology and descriptive survey research design. Data analysis began by identifying common themes. The target population comprised of 28 headteachers, 302 teachers, 873 girls in classes VII & VIII and three (3) Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs) totaling to 1206 from which 300 respondents were determined using Yamane’s Formula. Stratified sampling was used to create three strata based on the number of zones in Garissa Sub-County. From each zone, four headteachers and 56 teachers were selected using simple random sampling to avoid bias. The procedures adopted enabled the researcher to sample 12 headteachers, 168 teachers, 117 girls in classes VII & VIII and three (3) CSOs. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically along the objectives and presented in narrative forms. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages and inferentially using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 23) and presented using tables. Findings: The study established that headteachers’ management practices such as involvement of female teachers influence the number of girls who are enrolled into primary schools. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: Thus, the study recommends that the Ministry of Education should recruit and work with female teachers to enhance girls’ access to primary education and to inform future policy development.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to establish strategies that can counter smuggling of beverages and improve business performance for The Cold Chain Zambia ltd. Smuggling poses a threat to the business as it destabilizes the legal industry of supply chain, restrains innovation and investments as well as posing a threat of company closures. Smuggling has caused loss of consumer confidence in buying beverages from Cold Chain Zambia ltd as the products are perceived to be expensive as compared to similar smuggled beverages in the market. The objectives of the study were to determine the extent of the effects of beverage smuggling on the Cold Chain Zambia business performance, to identify strategies which will counter beverage smuggling and to establish strategies that can be used to counter beverage smuggling and improve Cold Chain Zambia business performance.Methodology: The research design that was used was mixed methods which took the form of exploratory sequential mixed method design. The target population was 80 employees from Cold Chain Zambia ltd which included both general staff and management staff.Findings: There seems to be no correlation between business performance and strategies to counter beverage smuggling. In this case, H3: There is a significant correlation between the business performance and the perception of strategies to counter beverage smuggling in cold chain supply and was rejected. It was found that there is a negative and significant correlation between beverage smuggling and strategies to counter beverage smuggling on business turnover (F = 14.339; p<0.001).Unique contribution to theory, policy and practice: The researcher recommended that smuggling can be reduced by ensuring the goods are sold at competitive prices to reduce benefit of smuggling, continue with quality control, educate the public on smuggling and how to report and identify smuggling, stiffen law on smuggling in Zambia and review the clearing procedure at all points of entry to fasten the process.

Purpose: The study, therefore, seeks to establish the factors that influence the performance of nurses towards the overall healthcare improvement.Methodology: This study adopted a desk survey design. This involved an in-depth review of studies in relation to nurses’ performance and healthcare improvement. An in-depth search of the top keywords related to nurses’ performance and healthcare improvement was done in various databases. Thus, the seminar paper was purely qualitative, drawing its findings from secondary sources of information.Findings: The study finds that workload, payment and salaries, working conditions and leadership affect the performance of nurses towards the overall healthcare improvement. Unique contribution to theory, policy, and practice: Mismatch of human resources with workload and lack of clarity with regard to duties have maximum correlation with poor quality of care. Organizational structure and communication program categories gained the highest and lowest importance respectively. This information could be used by nursing managers and policy makers to plan programs in order to improve the quality of clinical nursing services. Clinical governance is considered as a framework for improving the quality of clinical services in nursing. Professional nursing practice standards are valid expression tasks that are expected of all nurses regardless of their roles and expertise in communities to be done with merit.

Purpose- This study focused on establishing the influence of participation in public debates on responsive governance in Kenya. Its main objective was to establish the influence of participation in public debates on responsive governance in Kenya. Methodology- Descriptive research design and positivism research philosophy were adopted. The study focused on a target population of 680 respondents from Eighty-five wards within Nairobi County, and data was collected from the following groups of respondents; Civil society representative, religious representative, ward administration representative, youth representative, women representative, the special interest group representative, a representative of the citizens’ anticipating county services and a representative of the old aged residents were targeted. A sample size of 139 respondents was determined though purposive sampling technique. Primary data was collected through questionnaires and secondary data through published materials. Data was analysed through SPSS and presented in tables. Hypothesis testing was done through the use of t-test. F test (ANOVA) was also conducted to ascertain the difference between groups on study variable. Findings- The study found that participation in public debates had a positive and significant relationship with responsive governance. The study concluded that through participation in public debates citizens are able to support the incumbent leader to facilitate achievement of county goals.  The results from participation in public debates indicated that an increased Participation in Public Debates resulted to responsive governance. Correlation results revealed that Participation in Public Debates and responsive governance were positively and significantly related. Regression further showed that participation in public debates have a positive and significant relationship with responsive governance in Nairobi city county government in Kenya. Unique contribution to theory, policy and practice - The study recommended that there is need to establish forums to in order to enable citizens to engage directly in planning, policy making and monitoring service delivery.  Based on the study findings, the study recommends that there is need to establish, County, Sub-County and Ward Citizens Forums to enhance participation of residents in local governance. Originality/value – This paper fulfils an identified need understand how Participation in Public Debates can influence responsive governance.
