Muḥammad ‘Ābid al-Jābirī’s Thoughts on Tradition and Modernity in Renewal

<span class="fontstyle0">The tradition is something that is present and accompanies contemporary ours, which comes from the past, or could be said of all that is human-related to aspects of thought in Islamic civilization, ranging from the teaching of the doctrinal, shariah, language, literature, art, pen, and sufism. Modern not to break with the past but to upgrade the attitude and stance by assuming the pattern of our relationship with tradition in modern culture. The relation of tradition and modernity, according to al-Jābirī was keeping the good old traditions and take a new tradition better that is, the tradition was reconstructed to internalize the contemporary thoughts. Al-Jābirī strongly emphasized contemporary Arab thoughts (bayani, 'irfani, </span><span class="fontstyle2">burhani</span><span class="fontstyle0">) as a way to confront modernity. The idea's important contribution is to introduce to us the various constructs reasoning developed in the Islamic world.</span> <br /><br />

This study wants to provide insight into the importance of thinking Seyyed Hossein Nasr in the Islamic world. The rise of various thoughts that deviate from the teachings of Islam made Seyyed Hossein Nasr moved to make breakthroughs in reforms that denied in the Islamic world. One response that challenges the thought of Seyyed Hossein Nasr is the flow of Western development that overrides the spiritual aspect. Seyyed Hossein Nasr is due to the opposition to the Islamic religion which is felt to be very struggling with Islamic civilization going forward. The main weapon of Seyyed Hossein Nasr to counter this Western discussion is the use of the philosophy of perennialism or what is often referred to as Pernenis Religion.

Our Islamic world passes a critical period representing on factional, racial and sectarian struggle especially in the Middle East, which affects the Islamic identification union. The world passes a new era of civilization formation, and what these a new formation which affects to the Islamic civilization especially in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon. The sectarian struggle led to heavy sectarian alliances from Arab Gulf states and Turkey from one side and Iran states and its alliances in the other side. The Sunni and Shia struggle are weaken the World Islamic civilization and it is competitive among other world civilization.

Communication is central in human life. All activities in human life require communication. The scientific study of the symptoms or reality of communication covers a very broad field, covering all forms of human relations and using symbols. more concretely this includes fields such as Interpersonal Communication, Group Communication, Organizational/Intellectual Communication, Mass Communication and Cultural Communication as seen in various forms of symbolic expression. Noting the seven traditions of communication research as such, communication research seems to be facing an important issue for its development in the present and future, which is pleased with how to try to take steps to get out of the confines of tradition and / or bring together existing traditions. This effort might be in the form of combining one tradition with another existing tradition (trying to synthesize existing traditions) while pioneering an entirely new tradition, for example with a more extensive implementation of historical methods to discover how communication patterns exists in a society in the past and attempts to understand what is now by looking at the past.

The concept of citizenship is one of the pillars upon which the modern civil state was built. The concept of citizenship can be considered as the basic guarantee for both the government and individuals to clarify the relationship between them, since under this right individuals can acquire and apply their rights freely and also based on this right the state can regulate how society members perform the duties imposed on them, which will contributes to the development of the state and society .The term citizenship has been used in a wider perspective, itimplies the nationality of the State where the citizen obtains his civil, political, economic, social, cultural and religious rights and is free to exercise these rights in accordance with the Constitution of the State and the laws governing thereof and without prejudice to the interest. In return, he has an obligation to perform duties vis-à-vis the state so that the state can give him his rights that have been agreed and contracted.This paper seeks to explore firstly, the modern connotation of citizenship where it is based on the idea of rights and duties. Thus the modern ideal of citizenship is based on the relationship between the individual and the state. The Islamic civilization was spanned over fourteen centuries and there were certain laws and regulations governing the relationship between the citizens and the state, this research will try to discover the main differences between the classical concept of citizenship and the modern one, also this research will show us the results of this change in this concept . The research concludes that the new concept of citizenship is correct one and the one that can fit to our contemporary life and the past concept was appropriate for their time but the changes in the world force us to apply and to rethink again about this concept.

This study reveals on fatwas concerning cigarettes in the Archipelago in the 19th century. The primary source is an Arabic manuscript from Kuningan, West Java, digitized by DREAMSEA, entitled “Bāb fī Bayān Ḥukm Shurb al-Dukhān”. It does not only use arguments from sharia, the interpretation of ulama, and health reasons but also refers to myths and conspiracies. This study finds that this manuscript mentions the existence of ḥaram (prohibited) and makrūh (not legally forbidden but discouraged) on cigarettes referring to two Egyptian ulama in the 17th century. Through analyzing fiqh and social history, this philological study discloses the connection between its author with the Egyptian’s ulama networks as a new center for ideas of Islamic civilization aside from Haramayn. Hence, the arguments of the manuscript openly consider many aspects of sharia in responding to such a new tradition (cigarettes) in the Muslim community. This is different from similar manuscripts discussing this kind of fatwa in the 19th century which only judge as haram so that it is considered politically as a form of a critique against the colonial’ tobacco business policies.

Bayt al-mal is one of the important architectural innovations that characterized the Islamic civilization. It represents the treasury of the Islamic State, which preserves the various financial resources of the State. The Bayt al-mal appeared in the era of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him), and its layout was simple reflects the simplicity of Islam. Its location was inside the mosque or adjacent to it. Bayt al-mal developed with the expansion of the Islamic State and the Islamic conquests, and it has a special called Diwan Bayt al-mal. Domes were built in mosques as one of the branches and sections of the Bayt al-mal. These domes were dedicated to preserving the different funds of the endowments and places. The location of these domes was in the great mosques' courtyard. They rise from the courtyard's surface and based on eight columns. These domes appeared especially in Umayyad mosques in Syria and Palestine. Then they spread in most countries in the east and west of the Islamic world. This research deals with the concept of the Bayt al-mal; its names, origin, architectural development, and the reasons to build them. This research also studies the dimension of jurisprudence in the building of these domes. It used an analytical study of the architectural shape of these domes and studies the impact of functional dimension on the form and plan of these domes. This study shows the remaining examples of these domes in Islamic mosques and mentions some examples of the extinct ones.

The purpose of their (Prophets-pbut) being was to make favourable and justful approach to the problems faced by the man as an individual as well as in society. The culture and civilization is infact the progressive shape of man made cultures having all the past experiences of social life confronted by him in the past. Islamic civilization considers all the elements essential to effectuate the living of humanbeing. The concept of life, the purpose of life, the beliefs & thoughts, the involvement of man, the collective structure of the society etc are the basic elements of Islamic culture & civilization. Cultures & Civilizations are formulated on three major factors, i.e. Geographical, Biological and Ideological factors. Culture and Civilization also require moral groundings on which the rites and rituals are formulated and performed by all the members of the society. The purpose of Islamic civilization is ‘Peace’ and ‘Tranquility’ for the humans in this world and in the Hereafter. Therefore, the characteristics of Islamic culture & civilization are; the oneness of God, brotherhood, justice & goodwell, respect, cleanliness, moral character and freedom. Islamic culture and civilization guarranttee success for the human being in this material world and in the life after death.

The problem of Islam and modernity has been an important point of discussion in the Arab and Islamic world for decades, though this discussion has taken various forms, such as being called the conflict between the past and the present, or tradition and progress. This discussion has hidden within it clear contradictions when seeking compromise between the Abrahamic religions and present times throughout history. This conflict first appeared in the geographic area known as the Islamic world and looked much like the Age of Enlightenment in Europe in the eighteenth century. However, the true meaning of the conflict revolved around the capacity of Islam as a religion to be compatible with modernity and its philosophy, precepts, politics, and historical facts. This means that Islam was obliged to come into agreement with modernity, which became like the soul and language of the present.

Pectoralis major rupture is uncommon. Injury usually occurs from sporting activities. The incidence and management of pectoralis major rupture is not well known, despite 74 case reports in the English language literature over the past 34 years. Two cases of chronic pectoralis ruptures and their successful surgical management are described. A review of the literature shows that most injuries occur at the humeral insertion, and most are complete ruptures. Distinguishing between complete and partial ruptures is important. Complete ruptures are best treated surgically in the acute situation. When chronic complete ruptures present, surgical repair yields fair to good results. Acute partial ruptures can be effectively managed conservatively or with surgery. Chronic partial ruptures can be managed surgically with good results, following unsatisfactory conservative management in the acute situation.
