As contemporary theatre and new production models are now being evaluated with more regard to community empowerment, the importance of proper tools for evaluation of the process has increased. The article explored the community youth theatre practices of the Community Youth Cultural Centre (CYCC) of the National Commission on Culture (NCC) in Ghana. We examined the role of the youth theatre at CYCC in the light of community empowerment. Using the qualitative case study design, six artists with a minimum of five years and a maximum of thirty years of work experience with the CYCC were interviewed. Performance activities and documents of the CYCC were also observed and analysed. The findings revealed four themes: Objectives of the centre; Youth theatre practices; Abibigoro/puppetry theatre models; and non-formal and cultural education. It was found that staff and artists at the CYCC employed diverse theatrical modes to facilitate community empowerment processes. The study recommends that cultural and creative centres in Ghana should harness the potentials of the community youth theatre, develop community-specific and context-driven performance models to support artistic- aesthetic-cultural and non-formal education processes to enhance our collective strive for community empowerment in Ghana.

In this paper we investigate how well residents of the Andaman coast in Phang Nga province, Thailand, are prepared for earthquakes and tsunami. It is hypothesized that formal education can promote disaster preparedness because education enhances individual cognitive and learning skills, as well as access to information. A survey was conducted of 557 households in the areas that received tsunami warnings following the Indian Ocean earthquakes on 11 April 2012. Interviews were carried out during the period of numerous aftershocks, which put residents in the region on high alert. The respondents were asked what emergency preparedness measures they had taken following the 11 April earthquakes. Using the partial proportional odds model, the paper investigates determinants of personal disaster preparedness measured as the number of preparedness actions taken. Controlling for village effects, we find that formal education, measured at the individual, household, and community levels, has a positive relationship with taking preparedness measures. For the survey group without past disaster experience, the education level of household members is positively related to disaster preparedness. The findings also show that disaster related training is most effective for individuals with high educational attainment. Furthermore, living in a community with a higher proportion of women who have at least a secondary education increases the likelihood of disaster preparedness. In conclusion, we found that formal education can increase disaster preparedness and reduce vulnerability to natural hazards.

This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the existence of the local social organization in conducting community empowerment. The experiment was conducted at Community Empowerment Institution (In Indonesia it is referred to as Lembaga Pemberdayaan Masyarakat/LPM). LPM Cibeunying as one of the local social institution in Bandung regency. Aspects reviewed in the study include the style of leadership, processes, and stages of community empowerment, as well as the LPM network. The research method used is a case study with the descriptive method and qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted against five informants consisting of the Chairman and LPM’s Board members, village officials, and community leaders. The results show that the dominant leadership style is participative, in addition to that, a supportive leadership style and directive leadership style are also used in certain situations. The empowerment process carried out per the stages of the empowerment process is identifying and assessing the potential of the region, problems, and opportunities-chances; arranging a participative activity plan; implementing the activity plan; and monitoring and evaluating the process and results of activities. The social networking of LPM leads to a social network of power in which LPM can influence the behavior of communities and community institutions in utilizing and managing community empowerment programs. From the research, it can be concluded that the model of community empowerment implemented by LPM Cibeunying Village is enabling, empowering, and protecting.

Background and Purpose: Efforts in bringing about changes to fishers' lives are often met with obstacles due to their lack of participation in empowerment programmes as well as their excessive reliance on external assistance. However, such situations are said to be the results of their level of education and work experience. This paper also examines the relationship between work experience with empowerment and formal education as a control variable to the relationship. Therefore, this paper aims to observe the reality of empowerment among fishing communities from the lens of participation and self-reliance among fishers in Terengganu, Malaysia. Concurrently, this study also reviews the theme mentioned above from the lens of formal education and work experience and their impacts on the fishing community empowerment.   Methodology: This study used a survey design and involved 220 coastal fishers, who were identified through multi-stage sampling. Data were gathered using a questionnaire, and data analysis was done through descriptive statistics and the Analysis of Variance Test (ANCOVA).   Findings: The empowerment of the fishing community in this study is not influenced by the number of years they have spent as fishers. On the other hand, their level of education plays a pertinent influence on their empowerment. Such a finding clearly shows that experience is not only a major factor in increasing the empowerment of the fishing community.   Contributions: This study contributes to our understanding that it is undeniably true that formal and informal education play an integral role in empowering the fishing community, where through education, fishers are more participative in their community and exhibit autonomy towards their work.   Keywords: Fishers, empowerment, formal education, experience, community development   Cite as: Tuan Sembok, T. This paper analyses the role of cost differentials in the fourth industrial revolution. It uses a literature review in order to identify origins, definitions, enabling technologies and changes in company productivity. Research results show how certain Industry 4.0 enabling technologies help obtain better economic results in mass production and others that support new production models in mass production: mass customization and mass personalization. This paper is of a theoretical nature and identifies certain reflections concerning Industry 4.0’s role in managerial literature by providing interesting lines to be developed in future directions of research.

This research aimed to analyze the pesantren as a site of citizenship and its role in shaping civic culture in Madura. This research was qualitative with a case study The results of this study indicate that: 1) Pesantren as a site of citizenship was a place of sowing identity and spirit of religion and nationality for citizens who are participative, active, caring, sensitive and responsible. 2) The role of pesantren as a site of citizenship in shaping civic culture in Madura, appears in the field of education, social, and politics through the inculcation of religious and national values, community empowerment, and political involvement. All of that were voiced on the religious values that characterize pesantren as an institution of Islamic education. Pesantren with traditional managerial patterns was guided by an open and moderate religious understanding. In the pesantren with modern managerial patterns, the programs were based on Islami, Tarbawi, Ma'hadi, and Indonesiawi. The forms of overcoming the problem were the empowerment of alumni and cooperation with the community.

A large number of Muslim population in Indonesia is also suitable for a large number of mosques. Mosque in the history of Islamic civilization is a means to perform da’wah and development of economic resources of Muslims. Using descriptive qualitative methods, this study aims to examine how the economic role of the mosque can be improved through community empowerment program in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia. From the result, it may be concluded that mosque has a strategic position to empower congregation. For enhancing the economic role through empowerment, there are at least six steps. Firstly, planning process including agreement among the administrator, looking for fund source, and also looking for the partner. Secondly, socialization to the congregation, opened, closed, or limited. Thirdly, selecting the beneficiaries. Fourthly, the empowering process including lending a soft loan, establish cooperative, or marketing intervention. Fifthly, mentoring both economic and spiritual progress of the beneficiaries. The last process is evaluating the program periodically. The success indicators of this program are the performance of returning loans and the improving intensity of the congregation prayer.

This chapter is a reflection of analyses, experiences and research on the opportunities and challenges of working with faith-based organisations (FBO's) in the context of global health. The purpose of this chapter is to demonstrate the important role that FBO's have with state and non-state actors in the development of communities in complex contexts. The role of FBO's in development are demonstrated in reference to the Author's work experience with FBO's, which form case studies in East Africa, and Timor Leste. Further analyses through literature build on these experiences to demonstrate the leading role FBO's can have with state and non-state actors, and the effects on public health. In the case study of Timor Leste, suggestions are proposed to overcome challenges and build on the opportunities of state and non-state actors incorporating the Catholic Church into health programs.

Behind the life that we see in the capital city, it turns out that we still know the phenomenon of people's lives in rural areas who still depend on the natural resources around them. One of them is the phenomenon of coconut sugar farmers, who are often called penderes, who still cannot process coconut sap correctly and adequately to increase the selling value of the sugar. It is due to the low level of education and the lack of public knowledge in processing coconut sugar. LPPSLH is a non-government institution engaged in community empowerment, both urban and rural. With the phenomenon experienced by the farmers, LPPSLH as a facilitator, invites the farmers to take part in the organic certification program for ant sugar. Later, it can increase the farmers' income, increase the selling value of sugar, and market their products to the export market. The training and assistance aim to change farmers' behavior and old habits into more productive and profitable habits (efforts) to build farmers' independence. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative, and the sampling was collected purposively. The data collection technique used interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that LPPSLH played the role of education, facilitation, and advocacy to penderes farmers in empowerment programs, especially in rural areas.

The title of this research is "The Role of The Indonesian Militer In The Development of The Territorial (Case Study in Sungai Ceper Village, Sungai Menang District, Ogan Komering Ilir District)". TNI in the context of defending territory, assisting the tasks of regional governments based on Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI in the development of physical or non-physical communities, territorial development, community empowerment in territorial / remote / remote areas and improving the welfare of the community through TNI Manunggal Building Village (TMMD) program. The purpose of this research is to find out how the relationship between military and civilian is formed through the TNI Manunggal Building Village (TMMD) program and the implementation of the TNI Manunggal Building Village activities when viewed from a human security approach. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with stages, namely interviews, observation, documentation. Meanwhile, the source of this research is primary data sources. Based on the results of the study it can be seen that, physical achievements in the implementation of the TNI Manunggal Building Villages have been carried out based on the target, but there is one thing that makes constraints in achieving these targets. Then, the relationship between the military and civilians was well established because through the TNI Manunggal Building Village program, and the closer cooperation between the TNI and the Government. Then, through this activity the target area community is able to obtain aspects of the human security approach in the form of personal security.

This study aims to analyze the role of social capital in improving education access for poor families. The children of poor families have low education access  to continue their study in college. Low access influenced by financial factors, helping parents to earn a living and high educated unemployed. In the other side, the utilization of social capital in the education sector focus on improving human quality by formal and non-formal education, and management of the school. This qualitative research by a case study approach confirms that social capital can be utilized to improve education access for poor families. And also, the social capital contain in “tman penen” culture. The “tman penen culture is a custom of Lanaus society to come together, united and support each other either financial or moral support for families and child who want to continue their study in college. “Tman penen” culture help poor families to send school their children in college and the children can make their dream come true.
