The purpose of the article is to study the degree of support of Azerbaijan by the Islamic world during the 2020 war in Nagorno-Karabakh, to identify the supporting parties, as well as religious and geopolitical motives, mechanisms of this support. The objectives of the article are to study issues related to the Islamic direction of Azerbaijan's foreign policy and the religious component of the Artsakh problem in the context of the Turkish-Azerbaijani policy, to identify the role of Turkey on the basis of the ideas of Islamic-Turkish solidarity, in order to create anti-Armenian sentiments in the international arena. The article was written on the basis of monitoring of the international press and materials on this topic, an extensive study of professional literature on various sides of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In the course of the study, the authors concluded that during the Artsakh war of 2020, the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem used religious instruments to enlist the full support of the Islamic world. The ideas of Islamic, common Turkic solidarity, jihadism, as well as the potential of hired jihadists, Sunni-Shiite layers of the Islamic world were used. From the time between September-November 2020, in parallel with the large-scale hostilities in Artsakh, anti-Armenian agendas and moods based on the religious factor and obvious ideas of Islamic solidarity were advanced and strengthened in the Middle East, beyond its borders, and primarily in the Islamic environment, which were manifested in both political and public discourse of Turkey and Ankara, also in international media and social networks, as well as Muslim clergy and government officials. They were directed by Ankara, Baku and their allies using a wide range of information tools. Besides that, on Erdogan’s initiative and direct control, large number of mercenaries were thrust into the line of contact. The President of Turkey invested military, political, diplomatic, human, economic and propaganda resources in support/in favor of Azerbaijan. The Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem was not repulsive to inciting religious hatred by generating anti-Armenian sentiments, which became a security threat to Armenians living around the world. During the war, the Turkish-speaking Shiite Azeri elites of the Iranian Azerbaijan (Atropatene) province of Iran, broad public spectrum, high-ranking Muslim theologians around the world and some Muslim countries, such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc. became allies in the formation of anti-Armenian sentiments. The victory in the war strengthened Azerbaijan's position in the Islamic environment, where Baku had spent considerable resources to gain legitimacy and involvement. It can be stated that Azerbaijan, which has a predominantly Shiite identity, was mostly supported by the Sunni world, which has a direct connection with Ankara’s unconditional support to Baku.

It is clear to everyone that investment in the agricultural sector in developing countries is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty and hunger in the world. Agricultural investment can generate a wide range of development opportunities. However, these benefi ts cannot be expected to arise automatically. Some forms of large-scale investment pose significant risks to investor states. It should be noted, however, that, despite discussions about the potential benefits and risks of international investment, there is still no evidence of negative actual consequences for the countries receiving investments. This article examines the issues of investment activity in relation to developing countries using the example of US agribusiness entities.

The vast increase of energy consumption, global warming and the harm they cause to the environment, emerge to be a major obstruction that distresses the world today. The current work views one of the methods that the world focused on as means of reducing the environmental harms and that is, through green building, or in more common words sustainable buildings. Those means, covers the exercising of a wide range of applications including merging of new and specific technologies in which through fulfilling its basis, the process of evaluation of the building takes place in terms of its harmony with the environment, reduction of energy consumption, and the reduction of the environmental problems caused by the building life cycle starting from defining of location, design of the building, operation, maintenance, repairing and up to the renewal of the building.  Despite the significance of green building, no profit nor implementations has yet been made in Libya. The latter is due to the lack of awareness by many Libyan social groups. From here, the idea behind this paper crystalized. It aims to spread and enhance the knowledge and techniques of green building. It also penetrates into the green building features and advantages that are considered to be a preliminary step to start its application in a wide range coinciding with the grand progress that the country has witnessed in the field of construction and housing. This paper concludes that it is possible to reduce energy consumption and the harm it causes to the environment after the implementation and merging of green building techniques and should be applied on a large scale covering the whole country.

Hundreds of books were written in the Arab world during the Bosnia and Kosovo wars, overwhelmed with rhetoric aimed at arousing a sense of Islamic solidarity. However, they have no scientifi c basis and are, therefore, of no scientifi c value. They were either along the lines of the West’s Balkan political campaign or were intended to elicit voluntary donations that were, more often than not, followed by large-scale fi nancial scandals. For this reason, it is also necessary to shed light on the insincerity of some fundamentalist structures in the Arab world that have raised their voice in support of Kosovo Albanian Muslims, irrespective of the fact that their claims are illegitimate. At the same time, these structures turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the claims of other Muslims, despite the fact that their claims are legitimate. In order to answer these questions, one should realistically and honestly say that NATO was only keen, exclusively and solely, to remove the obstacle to its further conquests, obstacle called Yugoslavia, particularly Serbia. That country was such obstacle to Western world–lords that they attributed to her, through their powerful political and media machinery, every single evil and villainy. West spared no money and means to dismantle and destroy Yugoslavia and particularly Serbia. So we faced such paradox that separatist movements were described as ‘revolutionary’ and ‘liberation armies’. Yet, if these things are natural for America and Europe, what is then natural for fundamentalists in Arab and Islamic world? There is no convincing answer but to describe our fundamentalists loyal to West as unionists loyal to their Vatican. Fundamentalists in Arab and Moslem world use our faith in a very bad manner, abusing it in the interest of politics. They mortify their faith in accordance to the needs of those forces in the world that are interested only for egoistic increase of their own power.


A hundred years ago the Society often listened to papers about the ocean, but the rapid growth of science, especially the development of those aspects that can be carried through with the help of laboratory experiments, has led to some neglect of large-scale natural processes, in favour of those that can be more readily formulated and imitated in models. Although aiming at better understanding and use of the world we live in, we have concentrated on the most approachable and profitable aspects; in consequence, studies of the earth, oceans and atmosphere, have become ‘fringe subjects’. But they are staging a come-back. The application of modern theoretical and practical methods to these problems brings results as exciting as any that can be obtained in a laboratory, and just as suitable for Ph.D. courses, which is one of the things that seems to matter, if they were better known. We must be grateful to the Society for giving us this opportunity to talk about the oceans. I am sure the papers will show the wide range of interest and excitement as well as the difficulties.

Background. The article is devoted to the creative activity of the outstanding Chinese composer, pianist, teacher and public figure Zhang Zhao (born in 1964). The musical heritage of Zhang Zhao covers a wide range of genres and includes symphonic, piano music, instrumental compositions, works for Chinese traditional instruments, vocal, chamber music, ballets, music of cinema and television programs, and music for large social events. Despite his notoriety in China, the United States, Canada and many European countries, Zhang Zhao is little known in Ukraine. Thus, Ukrainian musicians to date have been deprived of the opportunity to get acquainted with his work. Since the music of Zhang Zhao sounds in many countries of the world, it resonates powerfully in a variety of areas, and in particular, research. To date, the work of the composer is actively studied by Chinese musicologists. However, among the publications, small articles devoted to a narrow range of problems predominate. Large-scale studies devoted to any area of his music have not yet been created. One of the most important topics relating to the composer’s work is the study of his views on musical art. Zhang Zhao’s vision of the further development of Chinese piano art reveals the composer’s worldview, his creative credo. This question is decisive for studying the composer’s musical heritage, defining his genre-style priorities. Objectives. The purpose of the article is to reveal the peculiarities of Zhang Zhao’s artistic worldview in order to promote the fullest possible identification of the ideas of the composer, the disclosure of the artistic concepts of his works. Methods of research are based on a set of scientific approaches necessary for the disclosure of its theme. The complex approach, combining the principle of musical-theoretical, musical-historical and performing analysis, is taken as the basis of the methodology. Results. Important for the disclosure of the creative worldview of the composer is the study of his statements on the ways of further development of musical art. His attitude and vision of his role in this process, the Chinese musician has repeatedly stated in an interview with domestic journalists. According to Zhang Zhao, the main issue that should concern modern composers is the place of the musical art of their country in world culture. Zhang Zhao found in the face of the pianist virtuoso his Yundi Li adherent. The collaboration between the composer and the performer began in 2011. Zhang Zhao took part in a large-scale theatrical performance at the Third Congress of BRICS leaders in Sanya. Then Yundi Li performed on the stage of the concert hall of Zhang Zhao’s play “In the most remote place” and “Chinese piano dream”. Zhang Zhao is committed to the concept of inheritance and the promotion of a culture of national music. The Chinese compare Zhang Zhao with the outstanding leader of the Polish people Chopin, who dedicated his life to the transformation in piano music of various genres. Piano works by Zhang Zhao adorned the world culture with the introduction of Chinese national motives into it. The composer introduced listeners to the air melodic lines of original works and filled his works with a complex texture, making them attractive for acquaintance with the rich traditional culture of China. Developing national piano art, Zhang Zhao inscribes the Chinese chapter in the world culture with his inherent passion and love for life. In addition to studying composition, performing and teaching, Zhang Zhao, is active in public activities, being a music professor at the Central University for Nationalities. He pays great attention to the development of the artistic taste of students, shares his own musical ideas and aesthetic principles. The composer made great efforts and energy to create the “Chinese piano dream”. To popularize this work, they, together with Yundi Li and the Shanghai People’s Orchestra conducted nationwide tours, visited Taiwan, and outlined other projects. Despite the fact that Professor Zhang Zhao has a very tight work schedule, he nevertheless finds time to talk with his students about the place of national music and its prospects. In the “Chinese Piano Dream”, the composer sought to reflect the essence of the musical culture of the Chinese nation. He embodied the dreams of the older generation of pianist composers and performers about the perfection of the Chinese piano scene, set a high goal – to show the artistic value of the Chinese piano piece on the world stage, took on the mission to inherit the national culture and pass it on to the next generations. In the works of Zhang Zhao, the interests of the Chinese and global world level intersect. This is due to the amazing richness of the composer’s creative worldview, which is open to everything significant in life and art. On this basis, the composer came to important conclusions about the role of contemporary classical musical art in people’s lives in China and in the world. Conclusions. For more than twenty years, Zhang Zhao is in the creative search for his musical style. He carefully investigated the development of ethnic music, which enabled him to create his piano works, which are distinguished by a unique and mature language.

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)-SUNY Gladys Marcus Library's exquisite, rare, primary research materials are housed in its unit of Special Collections and College Archives; as such, it is known to those who study fashion and other creative industries throughout the world.Like the unit's name, its mission is two-fold: regarding special collections, it acquires, preserves, and provides access to a wide range of primary research materials in their original formats and across many languages and geographical spectra. All acquisitions support one or more curricula offered at FIT. Regarding the college archives, the unit acquires, preserves, and provides access to college records permanently-scheduled for retention, or deemed to have enduring, historical value, created or received in the course of college business; archival records are created or received by administrators, staff, faculty, and students. Fulfilling this mission supports myriad goals in and across FIT units as well as research from those outside the FIT community.This writer will introduce the collections to readers and briefly discuss the large-scale renovation that the unit is currently under-going.

Small scale systems can improve the sustainability of sanitation systems as they more easily close the water and nutrient loops. They also provide alternate solutions to centrally managed large scale infrastructures. Appropriate sanitation provision can improve the lives of people with inadequate sanitation through health benefits, reuse products as well as reduce ecological impacts. In the literature there seems to be no compilation of a wide range of available onsite sanitation systems around the world that encompasses black and greywater treatment plus stand-alone dry and urine separation toilet systems. Seventy technologies have been identified and classified according to the different waste source streams. Sub-classification based on major treatment methods included aerobic digestion, composting and vermicomposting, anaerobic digestion, sand/soil/peat filtration and constructed wetlands. Potential users or suppliers of sanitation systems can choose from wide range of technologies available and examine the different treatment principles used in the technologies. Sanitation systems need to be selected according to the local social, economic and environmental conditions and should aim to be sustainable.

Background. The research is devoted to revealing the semantic analysis of the dramaturgy of one of the large-scale compositions in the creative work of IvanKarabyts – the cycle “24 Preludes” for the piano. The composition was written by Ivan Karabyts in 1976 and today it is of great interest to concert performers and fans of modern piano music. The attention of pianists to the cycle “24 Preludes” by I. Karabyts is attracted, firstly, by the distinctive, original musical language, secondly – by a wide range of performing capabilities and means of expression, and thirdly – by vivid images that inspire pianists to reproduce artistic ideas, hidden philosophical implications. The object of research is the cycle “24 preludes” for the piano as a musical encyclopaedia, reflecting the artistic era in the context of the Ukrainian renaissance of tthe 1970s, and the aim is to identify stylistic patterns by means of the semantic analysis of the dramaturgy of the cycle, finding the intersection in a kind of dialogue with a diverse, significant fund of the music of the 20th century. The methodology of research is focused on the relationship of special methods of analysis: functional-structural, intonation, genre, style, semantic and interpretative one. Results. Ivan Karabyts chooses for his cycle a model of tonal dramaturgy of the cycle “24 Preludes”, introduced by F. Chopin and later by D. Shostakovich, namely – the movement along the circle of fifths in the ratio of major-minor. From the point of view of musical semantics of the preludes of the cycle they can be divided into 5 thematic groups (contemplative and introspective lyrics; grotesque and dance; sound imitation and spatial-visual; stylistic allusions; and tragedy ones), varied in genre-stylistic sense (according to the criteria of modelling the awareness of the lyrical hero (I – the world around me.) The dramaturgy of the cycle is built through their correlation, while forming a certain plot, which begins with the image of the lyrical hero, and ends with a demonstration of the society which is ambiguous and problematic for a human. The composer chooses the prelude as a genre with a historical memory of culture, which allows performers and listeners to experience the range of psychological moments of the human spirit in the turbulent world of events of the last third of the 20th century. The composer is fascinated by this genre not by chance, because the prelude allows reflecting in miniature numerous states of “fixed” moments of existence, the inner balance of the artist and the world. Each prelude in the cycle is a kind of creative laboratory, a field of creative experiments. It reflected both already developed and new methods and principles of the composer’s thinking. While performing one prelude after another as a whole composition, one realizes that this genre expresses the freedom of creativity, the element of existence: it is a fantasy, and a story of the heart, and the revelation of the spirit, and at the same time – bright genre sketches. Conclusions. The analysis of the musical semantics of I. Karabyts’s piano cycle “24 Preludes” testified to the presence of 5 genre-stylistic groups in the cycle (according to the criterion of the dual world notion “psychology I – the world around”). Thus, the genre-semantic analysis of the piano cycle “24 Preludes” has shown that I. Karabyts does not lose touch with history and time, by paying tribute to the masters of the 18th–20th centuries, continuing to develop the type of tonal dramaturgy, laid down by J. S. Bach. In the cycle there is a special “counterpoint” of the “blues” stylistic. The dramaturgy of the cycle has a detailed plot, which begins with the image of the lyrical hero, and ends with a demonstration of the society ambiguous and problematic for a human (“I – World”). The dramaturgy of the romantic dual world turns into a harmony of the modern world with multiple images, echoes of time and inner drama. The genre semantics and its analysis allow the performer to comprehend the large-scale cycle as an artistic picture of the world, and its stylistic unity – as a spiritual universe which belongs to the Ukrainian art of the 21st century.
