В статье обсуждаются два решения, предложенные (Э. Кешетом и Ш. Чжу) для объяснения «дально-действия» (tele-scoping) - избирательной способности именных групп с универсальной семантикой связывать местоимения через границу предложения в зависимости от риторической структуры дискурса. Исходя из их сильных и слабых сторон мы формулируем требования к формализации, в которой семантический вклад самих риторических отношений состоит в том, что они задействуют различные операции обновления информации в дискурсе. В качестве первого шага в этом направлении предложено различать две операции обновления, одна из которых применяется в случаях «дально-действия». The paper makes a case for encoding different types of update operations directly in the rhetorical structure of discourse. First, I discuss two solutions for the puzzle of tele-scoping, i.e. the conditional ability of universal DPs to bind a pronoun across a sentential boundary, proposed by Ezra Keshet and by Shensheng Zhu. Basing on their relative advantages and disadvantages, I outline an agenda for a formalisation which, instead of linking discourse structure to some features of the interpretative pipeline, directly encodes different types of update into the interpretation of rhetorical relations. The degree to which this direction is worth pursuing is illustrated for tele-scoping, whose difference from cases where cross-sentential binding is impossible is argued to be that the latter use the “oblivious” type of update, which cannot preserve the values of universally quantified variables.

This Chapter considers the nature and characteristics of different deal structures: the different ways in which a control transaction can be effected. It commences with an analysis of asset deals, which - although we do not encounter in the context of the takeovers of publicly traded companies which are the subject of this book – assist in understanding the nature of other deal structures as well as understanding the ways in which deal risk can be managed and, to a limited but important extent, assist in understanding certain Code rules. The Chapter then considers direct share offers (otherwise known as contractual offers). It analyses their structure as well as the corporate, Listing Rule and third party approvals required to effect a share deal. It also considers the use of compulsory acquisition powers to acquire all the shares in the company following the contractual offer. The Chapter then considers the use of Schemes of Arrangements in control transactions. It details the different types of control schemes, namely transfer schemes and merger schemes, and considers their advantages and disadvantages as compared to contractual offers. It analyses the different stages of the scheme process and the role of the courts in each stage. The final part of the Chapter considers the operation of the UK’s cross border merger regime, introduced to implement the European Union’s Cross Border Mergers Directive.

The popularity of hydrogels as biomaterials lies in their tunable physical properties, ability to encapsulate small molecules and macromolecular drugs, water holding capacity, flexibility, and controllable degradability. Functionalization strategies to overcome the deficiencies of conventional hydrogels and expand the role of advanced hydrogels such as DNA hydrogels are extensively discussed in this review. Different types of cross-linking techniques, materials utilized, procedures, advantages, and disadvantages covering hydrogels are tabulated. The application of hydrogels, particularly in buccal, oral, vaginal, and transdermal drug delivery systems, are described. The review also focuses on composite hydrogels with enhanced properties that are being developed to meet the diverse demand of wound dressing materials. The unique advantages of hydrogel nanoparticles in targeted and intracellular delivery of various therapeutic agents are explained. Furthermore, different types of hydrogel-based materials utilized for tissue engineering applications and fabrication of contact lens are discussed. The article also provides an overview of selected examples of commercial products launched particularly in the area of oral and ocular drug delivery systems and wound dressing materials. Hydrogels can be prepared with a wide variety of properties, achieving biostable, bioresorbable, and biodegradable polymer matrices, whose mechanical properties and degree of swelling are tailored with a specific application. These unique features give them a promising future in the fields of drug delivery systems and applied biomedicine.

In Arabidopsis, a variety of mapping populations have been used for the detection of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) responsible for natural variation. In this study, we present an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of populations used. To do this, we compare the results of both experimental and natural populations for the commonly analysed trait flowering time. It is expected that genome wide association (GWA) mapping will be an increasingly important tool for QTL mapping because of the high allelic richness and mapping resolution in natural populations. In Arabidopsis, GWA mapping becomes ever more facilitated by the increasing availability of re-sequenced genomes of many accessions. However, specifically designed mapping populations such as recombinant inbred lines and near isogenic lines will remain important. The high QTL detection power of such experimental populations can identify spurious GWA associations, and their unique genomic structure is superior for investigating the role of low-frequency alleles. Future QTL studies will therefore benefit from a combined approach of GWA and classical linkage analysis.

With the advent of Web 2.0, new forms of journalism arose, paving the way for the implementation of computational and automatization processes in all aspects of mass communication. As such, chatbots have already been adapted in the news media platforms bringing forward a series of issues and effects upon journalistic narrative, content and professional practices. This paper presents the role of chatbots and their characteristics, discusses the application of different types of chatbots in the news media and presents a theoretical overview of the advantages and disadvantages regarding their adaptation in journalism, as well as key ethical concerns connected to the emergence of this new journalistic narrative.

While the use of vinegar to fi ght against infections and other crucial conditions dates back to Hippocrates, recent research has found that vinegar consumption has a positive effect on biomarkers for diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Different types of vinegar have been used in the world during different time periods. Vinegar is produced by a fermentation process. Foods with a high content of carbohydrates are a good source of vinegar. Review of the results of different studies performed on vinegar components reveals that the daily use of these components has a healthy impact on the physiological and chemical structure of the human body. During the era of Hippocrates, people used vinegar as a medicine to treat wounds, which means that vinegar is one of the ancient foods used as folk medicine. The purpose of the current review paper is to provide a detailed summary of the outcome of previous studies emphasizing the role of vinegar in treatment of different diseases both in acute and chronic conditions, its in vivo mechanism and the active role of different bacteria.

SummaryLiposomes of pure phospholipids were used in a modified APTT test system and the role of phosphatidyl serine (PS) in determining the sensitivity of the test system to the presence of lupus anticoagulants was assessed. Six consecutive patients with lupus anticoagulants and seven haemophiliacs with anticoagulants directed at specific coagulation factors, were studied. Increasing the concentration of phospholipid in the test system markedly reduced the sensitivity to lupus anticoagulants but had marginal effect on the specific factor inhibitors. The same effect was achieved when the content of PS alone was increased in a vehicle liposome of constant composition.The results suggest that the lupus anticoagulants can best be detected by a screening method using an APTT test with a reagent of low PS content. The use of a reagent rich in PS will largely abolish the lupus anticoagulant’s effect on the APTT. An approach using the two different types of reagent may facilitate differentiation of lupus inhibitors from other types of anticoagulant.

The article considers the role of trust in the economy, the mechanisms of its accumulation and the possibility of using it as one of the growth factors in the future. The advantages and disadvantages of measuring the level of generalized trust using two alternative questions — about trusting people in general and trusting strangers — are analyzed. The results of the analysis of dynamics of the level of generalized trust among Russian youth, obtained within the study of the Institute for National Projects in 10 regions of Russia, are presented. It is shown that there are no significant changes in trust in people in general during the study at university. At the same time, the level of trust in strangers falls, which can negatively affect the level of trust in the country as a whole, and as a result have negative effects on the development of the economy in the future. Possible causes of the observed trends and the role of universities are discussed. Also the question about the connection between the level of education and generalized trust in countries with different quality of the institutional environment is raised.

The article is devoted to the study of evaluative tools used in modern French media in order to form the media image of a representative of the political elite. The techniques used in the creation of a memorial media portrait of Jacques Chirac (1932—2019), President of France from 1995 to 2007 are considered. The research material was the most prestigious French print media of various political orientations, published in late September — early October 2019 in connection with the death of the ex-President of the French Republic. The relevance of the research topic is dictated by the close attention of modern linguistics to axiological phenomena, differently presented in different types of discursive practices. The novelty of the study is due to the appeal to the analysis of the complex of evaluation tools used in the French print media when characterizing the former leader of the state during the nation’s farewell period. The estimated potential of the title of the article and its influence on the formation of the estimated vector of the entire text of the publication are shown. A systematic analysis of the assessment expression means, reflected in the memorial media portrait of the politician, is given. The factors that influenced the peculiarities of their use in this type of media portrait are revealed.

Misinformation often continues to influence people’s cognition even after corrected (the ‘continued influence effect of misinformation’, the CIEM). This study investigated the role of information relevance in the CIEM by questionnaire survey and experimental study. The results showed that information with higher relevance to the individuals had a larger CIEM, indicating a role of information relevance in the CIEM. Personal involvement might explain the effects of information relevance on the CIEM. This study provides insightful clues for reducing the CIEM in different types of misinformation and misinformation with varying relevance.

Abstract In failure analysis of wafer fabrication, currently, three different types of chemical methods including 6:6:1 (Acetic Acid/HNO3/HF), NaOH and Choline are used in removing polysilicon (poly) layer and exposing the gate/tunnel oxide underneath. However, usage is limited due to their disadvantages. For example, 6:6:1 is a relatively fast etchant, but it is difficult to control the etch time and keep the oxide layer intact. Also, while using NaOH to remove poly and expose the silicon oxide, the solution needs to be heated. It is also difficult to etch a poly layer with a WSix or a CoSix silicide using NaOH. In this paper, we will discuss these 3 etchants in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. We will then introduce a new poly etchant, called HB91. HB91 is useful for removing poly to expose the gate/tunnel oxide for identification of related defects. HB91 is actually a mixture of two chemicals namely nitric acid (HNO3) and buffer oxide etchant (BOE) in a 9:1 ratio. The experimental results show that it is highly selective in poly removal with respect to the gate/tunnel oxide and is a suitable poly etchant especially for removing polysilicon with/without WSix and CoSix in the large capacitor structure. Application results of this poly etchant (HB91) will be presented.
