Many researches have shown the facts that the students’ skills in writing can be improved by having a good reading habit. It was convinced that the students reading habit has great impact on the improvement of students’ writing ability. The students who read extensively will acquire more vocabularies that lead them to have greater proficiency in writing. Therefore, this study was purposed to know whether reading habit of the eighth graders of SMPN 6 Kayuagung was significantly correlated to their writing skill. By means of Purposive sampling, 124 students of the whole number of the population were selected as the sample. A correlational study was applied. A questionnaire and  written test were distributed to get the data. Twenty items of a ready-made questionnaire were used to know students’ habit in reading and a writing test was administered to measure students’ writing skill. The writing test was reliable because its reliability coefficient was 0.942. In data analysis, Pearson  Product Moment Correlation coefficient on SPSS 20 was used. The findings revealed that r-obtained (0.685) was bigger than the value of r-table (0.176) at p-value which was less than 0.05. Thus, the formulated hypotheses were proved. In other words, there was a significant correlation between reading habit and writing skill of the eighth graders at SMPN 6 Kayuagung.

This research was conducted to find out the effect using Edmodo application on the students’ writing skill of analytical exposition text at SMAN 4 Palangka Raya. Data of the students score of writing Analytical Exposition text was collected using writing test, and the hypothesis testing was examined based on t-test for normally because the data distribution was normal. A test in form of writing analytical exposition text was used the instrument to collect the data needed. Then, the data were analyzed by using parametric statistic dependent sample T – test because the data were normally distributed. The writer took conclusion based on statistical result. The result of this research shows that the critical value for students T distribution was 1.734 the critical value t0 was t05 {19} = 1.729. Because 1.734 is greater than 1.729, null hypothesis was rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that there was significant effect of using Edmodo Application in writing Analytical Exposition Text gained by eleventh grade of SMAN 4 Palangka Raya. Thus, Edmodo Application had been successful in improving students’ writing ability of Analytical Exposition text. The researcher suggest that the teacher should provide an appropriate media in teaching English, especially for Analytical Exposition Text and made Edmodo Application as reference to him/her to use it for making students’ attracted to the material.

This study investigated the influence of guided writing materials in students’ writing ability at English Study Program FKIP UR in which forty students that simple randomly selected at English Study Program FKIP UR. The instruments used were questionnaire and writing test. Based on the research findings, the responses of questionnaire were coded into interval score by using Likert Scale which showing the students’ ability and their opinion in guided writing that consisted of fifteen statements based on six indicators in the form of frequency. On the other side, writing test administered in term of finding the students’ writing ability. It was a writing outlining with fifteen listed in the form of brief statements. Before the research revealed, the tried out had been applied in assessing the validation of the instrument by using Pearson Product Moment correlation formula indicated that items were valid. Reliability calculation were performed in Cronbach’s Alpha denoted that the instrument was reliable. The instrument can be stated reliable when if it has Cronbach Coefficient is higher than 0.60. based on research findingsm it can be concluded that: first, the students’ writing by using guided writing was categorized into good category 56.2, second, the mean score of students’ writing test is 50.68, it can be stated that students’ writing ability is categorized into good category. While Fcount is 27.78 and Ftable  is 4.25. Based on its criteria, H0 is accepted if Ftable < Fcount and Ha is accepted if Fcount > Ftable. After it compared (27.78 > 4.25), it showed that H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that there was significant influence of guided writing in students’ writing ability.

Essay is the most essential part in writing critical essay. It is one of the subjects that learned by English students. CIRC is a method to improve students’ writing ability. Cooperative integrated reading composition (CIRC) was implemented on students’ writing skill through quasi experimental research; post-test only group design. Sample of the research was thirty nine students. Writing test was used to collect the data and analyzed by using independent t-test. The finding was students who were taught by cooperative integrated reading composition (CIRC) had better scores of writing critical essay than those who were taught by small group discussion. It meant that CIRC give an effect toward students to improve their writing skill.

This study is aimed to know teaching learning process in writing by using padlet application for Primary Education Department’s students whether there is improvement of students writing English skill by using that application. Subject of this research was third semester students of Primary Education Department. This is a Classroom Action Research. In collecting the data, the writer  used some techniques: observation, interview, and writing test. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Result of this research were: those application can be implemented as online writing practices every time that made students ability improve, the situation of wall in padlet can stimulate students to explore idea because they could upload video, recording, or picture suitable with topic that can support their writing. Students improvement in writing can be seen from postest score in every cycles. Based on the results above, it can be concluded that implementing padlet application can improve students Non English Department’ writing skill.

This research aims to investigate the reading habit quality of EFL learners at Widya Kartika University, Surabaya and to find out the influence of reading habit towards students’ writing skill. This is a quantitative ex-post facto study since it examines how the independent variable (reading habit) that has existed affects the dependent variable (writing skill) and the result is in the form of numbers. Sixty two students of Widya Kartika University were selected as the subject of this study. The instruments used in this study were (1) a reading habit questionnaire, to measure the quality of students’ reading habit and (2) a writing test, to examine the students’ writing skill and how it is influenced by reading habit. The results showed that the students’ reading habit quality was fair. Meanwhile, the analysis of Simple Linear Regression concluded that reading habit influences students’ writing skill.  Moreover, one of the writing components that was mostly influenced by the reading habit was the content.

ABSTRACT   The study purposed to determine if application letter can improve the students writing skill. The research intent onto the students’ ability English functional writing, especially in writing application letter at the fourth semester ASM Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The research participants were the fourth semester students of  Akademi Sekretaris dan Manajemen (ASM) Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. There were 5 students. The research determined that application letter coud improve the students writing’s skill. This research is qualitative research. The writer collects the data using the test and the documentation. The test is written test of application letter in English subject for the students  at the fourth semester of ASM Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The research questions of this research were how does sentence outline improve the students of the second year of SMP Negeri 4 Sungguminasa ability to write the paragraph? The researcher used A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The aims of this research are to find out the improvement of students’ writing skill and their activeness in the learning process through Writing Process Approach. Two cycles had been conducted, where each cycle consisted of four meetings. It employed writing test as the instrument. A number of subjects of the research were 42 students in the second grade conducted of 31 women and 11 men. The researcher took real data from the school to know the students’ writing ability. The results of the student's writing test in cycle 1 and cycle 2 had increased in different scores.  There was increasing by students at the end action of the second cycle. The research findings indicated that use of writing process approach could increase the students’ writing skill. The means scores of students in the Diagnostic test was 59.84 became 66.64 in cycle 1, and after revision, in the cycle 2, the mean score in cycle 2 was 70.79 by implemented of sentence outline. The successful of minimal criteria (KKM) was 65 while cycle 1, there were 2 (4.76%) students get poor, 27 (64.29%) get fair, and 13 (30.95%) get good meant that students who achieved the successful minimal criteria (KKM) more than a half of them. In cycle 2 there was 25 (59.52%) get fair and 17 (40.48%) get fair.Keyword: Sentence, outline, improve, ability.

This study is aimed at finding out the effectiveness of pairwork activities technique on students’ writing ability. The research is quasi-experiment with posttest only design. Students at grade XI Vocational School 1 Sungai Penuh engage in the study, whereas only two classes selected as sample (experimental class and control class). Writing test carries out after the treatment in each class, it means instrument is constructed in writing form in order to know students ability in writing. The data are analyzed by using t-test. The finding of hypotheses testing proves that the p-value is 0,00. Thus, p-value is lower than 0,05 (0,00<0,05) which means H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Hence, the pairwork activities technique is effective to be used in creating student’s better writing ability than conventional technique. Pairwork activities technique can enhance students activities in writing, where each pair of students should be active in generousing the ideas and cross-check their own writing with the intention of create better writing outcome.

The aim of this study is to know the improvement of students’ writing ability through Project based-learning using visual media in recount text at X Grades of students’ Vocational High School in Cimahi. This study was Quantitative design, the sample of research consisted of 30 students. The instrument used in this research was written test. The written test was applied in pretest and posttest. The writing test was administrated as the instrument of the research. The result shown that the students’ total score of pretest was 176, and then total score of posttest was 2222. It means that students’ score increased. Then the data were analyzed using statistical formula of t-test computation The data were analyzed by using t-test as the significant level of p<0.05 through SPSS version 15.0. Based on t-measure analysis show that T-score (9,589) ˃ T-table 5% (2, 045).  It means that was significant so the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It means that Project based- Learning using Visual Media has significant effect in improving students’ writing ability.

This research intends to find out whether or not there is a correlation between students’ translation and writing ability at the English Study Program of FKIP Universitas Riau. There were 40 students from 6A class chosen as samples. The instruments were translation and writing tests. The translation test aims to measure the ability of the students in translating an Indonesian-English text. The writing test aims to measure the students’ ability in writing a descriptive essay. The data were obtained by calculating the translation and writing test results. Based on the calculation, it was found that the students have good translation and writing ability. Besides, the value of the correlation coefficient obtained was 0.521 which means that there is a positive correlation between students’ translation and writing ability. The correlation is categorized as fair correlation since the value of the correlation coefficient obtained is 0.521 which is in the range of 0.400 - 0.599. Considering the fact that there is a correlation between students’ translation and writing ability, it issuggested that the students should also concern about and improve their translation ability because it will also improve their writing skill.
