ABSTRACT   The study purposed to determine if application letter can improve the students writing skill. The research intent onto the students’ ability English functional writing, especially in writing application letter at the fourth semester ASM Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The research participants were the fourth semester students of  Akademi Sekretaris dan Manajemen (ASM) Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. There were 5 students. The research determined that application letter coud improve the students writing’s skill. This research is qualitative research. The writer collects the data using the test and the documentation. The test is written test of application letter in English subject for the students  at the fourth semester of ASM Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. Then, the students’ sheet were corrected by scoring rubric of business letter. Finally, the writer analyzes the students’ score .   Key words: Application letter, Writing Ability,

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of Mind Map strategy on student’s writing skills in English subject in SDN Buaran Bambu V Tangerang city. This study used quantitative approach with quasi experiment method. Population of this study are sixth class consisting of 50 students. Samples were taken using saturation sampling technique for 50 students (25 students of control class and 25 students of experiment class). The instrument used was written test. All data calculated by t-test formula. The result of this study indicated that there was a significant difference effect in the use of Mind Map in improving student’s writing skill of the sixth grade of SDN Buaran Bambu V Tangerang city.

Many researches have shown the facts that the students’ skills in writing can be improved by having a good reading habit. It was convinced that the students reading habit has great impact on the improvement of students’ writing ability. The students who read extensively will acquire more vocabularies that lead them to have greater proficiency in writing. Therefore, this study was purposed to know whether reading habit of the eighth graders of SMPN 6 Kayuagung was significantly correlated to their writing skill. By means of Purposive sampling, 124 students of the whole number of the population were selected as the sample. A correlational study was applied. A questionnaire and  written test were distributed to get the data. Twenty items of a ready-made questionnaire were used to know students’ habit in reading and a writing test was administered to measure students’ writing skill. The writing test was reliable because its reliability coefficient was 0.942. In data analysis, Pearson  Product Moment Correlation coefficient on SPSS 20 was used. The findings revealed that r-obtained (0.685) was bigger than the value of r-table (0.176) at p-value which was less than 0.05. Thus, the formulated hypotheses were proved. In other words, there was a significant correlation between reading habit and writing skill of the eighth graders at SMPN 6 Kayuagung.

There are 5 indicators in writing descriptive texts such as: identification, description, use of language, vocabulary and mechanics. Based on the problems found at the beginning of the research, the purpose of this research was to find the students ability in writing descriptive text on English subject in SMPN 33 Padang. The type of research is descriptive research. Participants of the research were VIIIs grade students at SMPN 33 Padang. Data obtained through writing descriptive text tests. The data is analyzed by combining Heatons theory of assessment in writing and research rubrics about writing. The results of the research concluded that students ability in writing identification was Good to Average, students ability in writing descriptive was Fair to Poor, students ability in language use was Very Poor, students ability in using vocabulary was Fair to poor, and students ability in using mechanics was Fair to Poor. Then, the results of the research also showed that students had difficulty in identifying objects clearly, difficulties in developing related ideas, students lack of understanding of simple present tense structures, limited vocabulary, and errors in mechanics. Writing ability is one of English skills that need to be mastered by students. It is because students must express their idea well in order those readers can easily understand what students write. Moreover, many students� problems are found in writing such as generating idea, lack of vocabulary, grammatical mistakes and so on. Regarding the occurrence of problem in mostly students� writing, the researchers want to improve students� writing skill in descriptive text by implementing write-around plus strategy. The purpose of conducting this research is to investigate whether the implementation of write-around plus strategy can improve students� writing skill or not. This study is conducted by a pre-experimental study with measurement as the technique of collecting the data and written test as the tool of collecting the data. The research participants were 25 students as the eighth grade students in junior high school SMP Negeri 1 Gorontalo in academic year 2018/2019. The result of this study shows that there were improvements in all writing aspects such as fluency, grammar, vocabulary, content and spelling. The improvements of students� writing can be shown by data analysis, namely the average result of the research for pre-test got 9.04 score and it currently has been increased in post-test about 13.4 score.

This research focuses on the effect of Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) to the Students’ Writing Ability on Recount Text at Grade Ten of SMA HKBP 1  Pematangsiantar’. Problem raised in this research was ‘What is the effect of Student Teams Achievement Divisions or STAD on the students’ writing ability at grade ten of SMA HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar’. To answer the problem above, the researchers use the theories of some experts. They are:  Harmer (2004) ,Knapp  & Watkins ( 2005) , Aljanian (2012), Kagan (2009),  Zemach &  Rumisek (2003). The participants were the grade X of SMA HKBP 1 where there are two classes, one is as a control and the other is as an experimental class. The methodology used in this research was the Qualitative research. The data was collected by doing the observation. After the data been collected the researcher found the significant effect of STAD in improving the students’ writing skill. It can be seen from the data where the main score of pretest to post test in experimental class is 56,23 to 80,95. It has a great change. The result showed that the students at grade X of SMA HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar are able to improve their writing skill especially in recount text by applying STAD strategy in the class.

In addition to that, aquantitative method with a quasi experimental design. Based on research finding conclusions short story writing skill of student with cooperative learning model type CIRC is better than studentthat being taught by conventional method at X class SMAN 2 Sungai Penuh.

<p>“Picture tells a thousand words“. It is important that teachers help the students organize their writing which they are learning to build and enhance their writing skill. Graphic organizer is a creative great media for comparing and contrasing text or story and can easily be applied to any kind of topic to help the students understand the differences between the texts or stories. Beside that aim, graphic organizer also helps the students to organize their writing skill and enhance their writing skill well. Graphic organizer is considered to enhance student’s writing skill, also expresses the students creativity by using the all kind of text, image and graphics, so the research employing observation and carried by descriptive research method. This study aims to describe the meaning of sexy uniforms for female GAS STATION operators. The phenomenon is there, operational standards and grooming at the GAS STATION 54.801.50 Denpasar, incompatible with the generally happens. The existence of rules for wearing sexy lingerie for women operators became one of the requirements for workers. This research uses qualitative research methods with types of case studies. The phenomenology of theories about the construction of self dissect the motives of the purposes and motives because the property of Alfred Schutz was chosen to analyze this research. The results of this study showed a dar motive cause and motive of the purpose for the operators of the woman who wears sexy uniforms at the time of work. There are three things the motive cause that is educational, economic and social conditions. This research was conducted to find out the effect using Edmodo application on the students’ writing skill of analytical exposition text at SMAN 4 Palangka Raya. Data of the students score of writing Analytical Exposition text was collected using writing test, and the hypothesis testing was examined based on t-test for normally because the data distribution was normal. A test in form of writing analytical exposition text was used the instrument to collect the data needed. Then, the data were analyzed by using parametric statistic dependent sample T – test because the data were normally distributed. The writer took conclusion based on statistical result. The result of this research shows that the critical value for students T distribution was 1.734 the critical value t0 was t05 {19} = 1.729. Because 1.734 is greater than 1.729, null hypothesis was rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that there was significant effect of using Edmodo Application in writing Analytical Exposition Text gained by eleventh grade of SMAN 4 Palangka Raya. Thus, Edmodo Application had been successful in improving students’ writing ability of Analytical Exposition text. The researcher suggest that the teacher should provide an appropriate media in teaching English, especially for Analytical Exposition Text and made Edmodo Application as reference to him/her to use it for making students’ attracted to the material.

AbstractThe title of this paper is “An Analysis of Students’ Ability and Difficulties in Writing Descriptive Text”. The researcher did the research at vocational high school. This research focused on the students’ ability and difficulties in writing descriptive text. Even though descriptive text is not too difficult, but many students still found it difficult. The aims of the research are to know the ability of students in writing descriptive text, to know the difficulties of students in writing descriptive text, and to know how the teacher teaches descriptive text. This is a qualitative research. In collecting the data, the researcher used text analysis, observation and questionnaire. The components of writing that are analyzed are developing the ideas, organizing of ideas, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.  The results of this study illustrate that student faced difficulties in organizing and developing ideas. They were not able to develop ideas on the texts they wrote. Whereas, in term of grammar there was no significant difficulty, they can write descriptive text by using the correct grammar. In term of vocabulary, it was difficult for students to choose appropriate vocabulary even some of them still used Bahasa Indonesia. In term of punctuation marks, there is no significant error.  Based on the results of this study, it is suggested for teachers to pay attention to the teaching structure of descriptive text in the development of ideas, arrangement of ideas, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation. Teachers are also expected to provide examples and practice about the descriptive text to the students so they can achieve the purpose of education, especially in English subject.
