The global transition to the digital economy and digital society, intensively developing digital technologies, has an active influence on forming the digital generation’s personality (generation Z, network generation, iGen generation, next-generation). In the context of the pandemic, severe education transformations have taken place. It could not but affect the even more significant impact of digital technologies on the consciousness and behaviour of the modern generation. The article presents its features in the unity of the main spheres of personality — communicative, cognitive, emotional-volitional, motivational-need, value-semantic, influencing the lifestyle that is not peculiar to the preceding industrial civilization. Modern teenagers and young people have specific resources: mobility, multitasking, the flexibility of thinking, high speed of information perception, intellectual potential, activity, etc. At the same time, the identified personal and behavioural characteristics of the modern generation have shown that its representatives are in a state of estrangement from the real society, have difficulties in communication, experience emotional dependence on “numbers”, which leads to a lack of cognitive control, infantilism in real life, lack of deep interpersonal relationships. Purpose of the article: Considering the features of the digital generation in the unity of the main spheres of personality. Tasks: identification of personal and behavioural features of the digital generation; assessment of the consequences of the impact of information technology on the younger generation; development of suggestions for solving problems of communications and professional formation. The study of the phenomenological features of the representatives of the digital generation was carried out using a qualitative and phenomenological method, supplemented by a theoretical and methodological analysis of scientific literature, synthesis, concretization, comparison and generalization. New ideas and methods that affect the development of young people, taking into account the environment in which they are formed, based on the accumulation and analysis of information, have been developed. Knowledge of the specifics of digital socialization of an individual, the characteristics of representatives of generation Z will allow finding new landmarks in development, proportionately using them for educational purposes, and promoting professional self-determination.

The Y generation is understood as that born under the influence of the digital technologies. Now it’s represented by the young university students that created such a tight bond with the internet and its tools that uses them easily and frequently. Many works say that this generation of immediate young people accustomed to multitasking has developed a new kind of neuroplasticity entirely different of their antecessors and therefore possess peculiar habits and mechanisms of learning that should be respected and considered in the dynamics of teaching and learning, creating a pressure in the educational institutions to adequate in this reality. However, there are a few studies evaluating the real existence of these characteristics. Thus, we preset the conclusions of this descriptive qualitative project fulfilled with medicine students at Faculdade de Medicina de São José Rio Preto that aim to know how these students use digital technologies and the impact of their habits and behaviors regarding the involvement with technologies in their studies. The conclusion was that technologies are an important influence on student’s lifes, however continues to be one among several others, which allows the teachers to keep a fundamental role in the formation of these digital natives, especially helping and guiding them in the correct and full use of new technologies developed for learning.

Background. Previous research has demonstrated the impairment of social cognition (SC) in people with epilepsy. It is associated with worse social functioning and quality of life; however, the influence on real-life outcomes is unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate how SC is associated with epilepsy variables and real-life outcomes (education, employment and relationships) among patients with epilepsy (PWE). Methods. Eighty-one PWE completed tasks of theory of mind (ToM) (faux pas recognition (FPRT) and Happé Strange Stories test (HST)) and emotion recognition (ER) (Reading of the Mind in the Eyes (RMET)). Variables reflecting their education, employment and relationship status were treated as endpoints in search of association with SC. Data from a matched group (n = 30) of healthy controls (HCs) were used for comparison of ToM abilities. Results. ToM scores were lower among PWE as compared to HCs (U = 1816.0, p < 0.0001 (HST), U = 1564.5, p = 0.020 (FPRT)). All SC tests were associated with the level of education (OR = 1.22, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.09 to 1.36 (RMET), OR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.02 to 1.40 (HST), OR = 0.93, 95% CI = 0.87 to 1.00 (FPRT)). The results of ToM and ER testing were not associated with employment (χ2 = 33.423, p < 0.0001) if adjusted for the level of education (B = 0.804, OR = 2.23 (95% CI = 1.33 to 3.76), p = 0.002). SC abilities did not differ between PWE who were single and those in a relationship (U = 858.5, p = 0.541 (HST)), t= −1.236, p = 0.220 (RMET), U = 909.5, p = 0.271 (FPRT)). Conclusion. Better social cognition skills are linked to a higher level of education among PWE. SC probably has less influence on professional achievements and interpersonal relationships.

Mouthguard seems to be the best protection mean against dental injuries for sport application. The purpose of this study is to compare three different mouth guards under different condition of impacts closed to those observed on real-life shock loading. Specific devices were designed, firstly to pre-load and to form the mouthguard as it specified by the manufacturer; secondly to perform the different impacts on a very specific impact apparatus. Force and displacement were recorded as function of time. Those measurements were supplemented by a high speed video device to visualize the effect of the impact during the loading. A dissipated energy analysis was also performed.

Ballistic protection for armed forces requires a continuous performance improvement to successfully face ever evolving threats and scenarios. Ballistic tests are conventionally carried out in order to assess and validate the levels of protection to a high degree of accuracy. Although very effective, those tests are often time consuming and lack the necessary flexibility. A better approach would be to set up a numerical protocol for a number of simulations and only carry out final real life validation tests. Unquestionably, the main advantage of finite element modelling is the possibility to simultaneously evaluate a wide variety of configurations and their interactions (materials, geometry, architecture, etc.). For reliability, it is necessary to use sufficiently precise material behaviour models to accurately transcribe the phenomena observed during the impact. Our study focuses on the mechanical behaviour of 9 mm ammunition materials, namely a lead alloy core and a steel alloy jacket. For this purpose, a preliminary study (not presented here), was carried out on both the lead core and the steel jacket separately and the parameters for each constitutive model were determined. Lead-steel cylindrical samples, extracted from the ammunition, have been used for the validation of the entire constitutive model. By utilizing those samples, a high degree of the ammunitions material properties have been retained. SHPB tests have been carried out in multiple conditions, varying the striker speeds and temperatures. Additionally, the tests were recorded with an ultra-high speed camera. Strain gages were used to record signals along the input and output bars. Those measurements have been compared to numerical results using Finite Element code (ABAQUS® Explicit). A very satisfying correlation between the experimental data and the simulation has been reached, thus validating the jacket and core constitutive models and interactions for subsequent studies of ballistic impacts.

IntroductionAn impairment of premorbid adjustment (PA) has been regarded among poor prognostic indicators of schizophrenia. Some discrepancies in the literature suggest the usefulness of further characterizations of its impact on different aspects of the disease.AimsThe present study aimed to investigate the association of poor PA with psychopathology, neurocognition and real-life functioning in patients with schizophrenia recruited within the multicenter study of the Italian network for research on psychoses. functioning during childhood and adolescence (early adjustment) was assessed also in a group of healthy controls (HC) and one of unaffected relatives of patients (UR).MethodsGroup comparisons were performed between patients with poor and those with good PA. Differences in frequency of poor early adjustment were investigated among patients, HC and UR.ResultsPatients with poor PA, as compared to those with good PA, showed earlier age of onset, more severe negative symptoms and disorganization, greater impairment on all cognitive domains with the exception of attention/vigilance and worse real-life functioning in the considered areas (interpersonal relationships, community activities and work abilities). The pattern of poor early adjustment was more frequent in patients with respect to UR and HC and, to a less degree, in UR with respect to HC.ConclusionsOur findings confirm that poor PA in schizophrenia is associated with poorer illness outcome, and offer a further characterization of PA impact on different psychopathological and cognitive domains. They also suggest that poor early adjustment is a candidate endophenotype of schizophrenia, occurring in patients and their unaffected relatives.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.
