The objective of this study is to determine the opinions of university students undergoing primary school teacher training to develop language teaching material for patients from the Children’s Hospital of Málaga, Spain, using the Service Learning (SL) methodology. Students evaluated this methodology by answering a 16-question questionnaire validated by external researchers. Academic performance was analysed using the Student’s t-test by comparing grades between an intervention and a control group. The results indicated improvements in several areas, including: the level of engagement, transversal competencies, academic performance, level of student satisfaction, and acquisition of teaching material related to the subject.

Service-Learning (SL) is a teaching innovation method that combines learning and social service objectives to improve educational quality and graduate employability. To date, there are hardly any studies on its global impact on university students. This paper describes and evaluates an SL experience for Sustainability Entrepreneurship in the context of Spanish Higher Education. Based on knowledge acquired in classrooms, multi-disciplinary teams of students from different subjects related to Business Administration offered support to potential entrepreneurs from rural municipalities in the complex task of writing a successful Business Plan for their projects for local sustainability. Within this academic framework, our study has two goals: (1) to assess the self-perception of university students about the improvement in their curricular development, professional skills and civic-social responsibility after participating in the SL experience; and (2) to estimate its possible effect on academic performance. The results show that the students acknowledged they had improved their social and sustainability commitment and their curricular development, and had acquired skills that society increasingly demands from future business professionals. Furthermore, service-students achieved significantly higher academic performance than a control group of non-participating students. These findings highlight the effectiveness of SL to provide a more holistic education for business university students.

Abstract Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has been affecting many aspects including education globally as many countries closed the school temporally. This study aimed to summarize the effectiveness of the-education application among health-fields university students Methods PubMed and EBSCO databases for studies published up to August 2020 were searched. Studies reporting the academic performance or skills performance or students satisfaction were included. Study quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) appraisal tool. Result Published between 2002 and 2020, 22 studies were conducted in developed countries, and 2 studies in developing countries. The tele-education method included e-learning, virtual, and digital learning. When comparing to the control group, of fifteen studies intervention studies measuring academic performance, seven studies showed a higher mean score among the intervention group. For skills performance, there were no studies showing higher skill performance. For studies measuring student satisfaction, one-third showing higher students’ satisfaction among the intervention group compared to the control. Conclusion Our finding highlighted the positive effect of various tele-education on academic performance among the health-field university students. Applying the various tele-education in the learning process for health-field university students during the COVID-19 Pandemic is suggested. In 1952, a Belgian primary school teacher, Georges Cuisenaire, published Les nombres en couleurs, a booklet in which the author describes his invention and explains a corresponding method for teaching elementary arithmetic. Cuisenaire materialized the numbers from one to ten by means of rods of corresponding lengths and in different colours. The rods provided a concrete tool for exploring and gaining insight in basic concepts and skills, such as the four basic operations, finding divisors and multiples, working with fractions, the decimal system, arithmetic sequences, and area and volume calculation. From the mid-1950s, with the support of Caleb Gattegno, the Cuisenaire rods broke through worldwide. In subsequent years, empirical research into the effectiveness of the Cuisenaire’s method was initiated and in several countries Cuisenaire Associations were founded. In the late 1960s and 1970s, a number of attempts were made to use the material for the teaching of typical modern mathematics contents to (very) young children, but the use of the rods in this context was sometimes far-fetched and did not break through. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of cognitive reading strategies in primary school teacher training curriculum. Designed under the paradigm of a quasi-experimental research with the participation of an experimental and a control group, the current study seeks to investigate the impact of cognitive strategies training on students’ reading comprehension. Findings from the study showed that cognitive strategies training incorporated into a primary school teacher training course could improve pre-service teachers’ reading performance. It is concluded that students need more time and practice so that they can use their new strategies automatically at the procedural stage.

The article highlights the work on the creation in the school office “World Art Culture.” The description of the content of eight proposed stands, which reveal the richness of the world artistic culture, is given. The article considers the peculiarities of using the materials of the exposition of the cabinet by the primary school teacher in the process of teaching the subject “Basics of the spiritual and moral culture of the peoples of Russia”, which makes it possible to enrich the knowledge of younger schoolchildren, expand their horizons, generate interest in world artistic values and the need to communicate with them.

Human concern on the environment is unfortunately seen decreasing, which has resulted in negative environmental damages caused by human actions. To address this issue, this research seeks to see the influence of environment-based teaching materials in social studies learning to improve the eco-literacy of students of primary school teacher education (PGSD, Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar) study program. This research involved third semester 60 PGSD students of a private university in Bandung Regency, Indonesia. Therefore, this research investigated the differences of environment-based learning materials and conventional learning in improving the eco-literacy of PGSD students. This research used a quasi-experimental method with nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design and used quantitative observation instruments in the form of checklists to obtain the data. The results revealed that by using environment-based learning resources, the social studies learning could improve the eco-literacy of PGSD students, and was considered better than implementing conventional learning.

This research is born of a dual interest: on one hand in the concept of didactic transposition, i.e., “the work done to manufacture a teaching object out of an object of knowledge,” (Chevallard, 1985, p. 39), and on the other hand, for studying practical research and training methods for teachers, based on observation and on the study of teaching practices. This paper describes a case study in which several filmed lessons of a primary school teacher have been analysed by the author using a model to study didactic transposition that was developed following an advanced theoretical study. By then combining the video films with interviews between the researcher and teacher, the results of lesson analysis were provided to the teacher in order to raise his awareness of some of the characteristic aspects of the way in he performed the didactic transposition for the subject of history. The training aim is followed by a research aim, i.e., “assessment” by the researcher of the training or educational route achieved by the teacher. This assessment is the linchpin of this paper.

The purpose of this study is to describe the application of Focus, Explore, Reflect, and Apply (FERA) learning model in improving science process skills for a pre-service science teacher in primary school. The stages of learning using the FERA learning model consist of four stages, namely focus, explore, reflect, and apply. The sample of this study was the students in the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program at STKIP Sebelas April Sumedang. This research was conducted using Quasy-Experimental method with Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The effectiveness of the treatment was obtained by giving the pretest and posttest to each class one time. The research data was processed by analyzing N-gain, normality test, and average difference using the Wilcoxon and Man Withney U tests. The results showed that the experimental class and the control class had significant mean differences between the science process skills data on pretest and posttest. This shows that learning using the FERA model is more effective in improving science process skills for pre-service primary school science teachers.

This research is motivated by the low ability to understand mathematical concepts possessed by prospective elementary school teacher students. This study aims to see the achievement and improvement of students' mathematical understanding abilities that use Microsoft Excel-based VBA teaching materials with those using conventional learning. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. This study's population were all second-semester elementary school teacher candidates in one private university in West Java, Indonesia. The sample in this study was 70 prospective 2nd-grade elementary school teacher candidates. The instrument used in this study was a test of understanding mathematical concepts. The results showed: 1) learning using VBA Microsoft Excel as a teaching material was able to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts; 2) learning using Microsoft Excel VBA as teaching material is better than conventional learning; and 3) students can be enthusiastic, active and motivated in learning mathematics with VBA Microsoft Excel.
