The aim was to develop a method for assessing the natural values of the Polish marine areas (PMA), excluding coastal lagoons, based on phytobenthos. The valuation method includes 4 criteria which refer to the qualitative and quantitative structure of phytobenthos. The method was tested at the stony bottom overgrown with macroalgae – in the coastal zone, near the localities of Ustka, Poddąbie and Rowy. The assessment showed that the most valuable was the boulder area in the vicinity of Rowy, due to the presence of macroalgae communities with 5 rare and 3 protected species. The least valuable was the stony bottom near Ustka, with small amounts of macroalgae and 1 protected species. The natural values were classified into four classes and presented on map, what is very important from the practical point of view, especially when consider areas designated for future investments. The map with natural values distribution was created on the layers of surface sediments, which were developed on the basis of sonar and bathymetric data. The use of these data allowed the precise delineation of subareas with different natural values. The natural valuation method presented in this article is a relatively simple tool that can be applied to determine the areas valuable in terms of phytobenthos in PMA.

The presented paper aimed for exploring the translation process, a translator or interpreter needs equipment or tools so that the objectives of a translation can be achieved. If an interpreter needs a pencil, paper, headphones, and a mic, then an interpreter needs even more tools. The tools required include conventional and modern tools. Meanwhile, the approach needed in research on translation is qualitative and quantitative, depending on the research objectives. If you want to find a correlation between a translator's translation experience with the quality or type of translation errors, a quantitative method is needed. Also, this method is very appropriate to be used in research in the scope of teaching translation, for example from the student's point of view, their level of intelligence regarding the quality or translation errors. While the next method is used if the research contains translation errors, procedures, etc., it is more appropriate to use qualitative methods. Seeing this fact, these part-time translators can switch to the third type of translator, namely free translators. This is because there is an awareness that they can live by translation. These translators set up their translation efforts that involve multiple languages.

This paper presents the development of a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the resistance to ground for the electrically continuous negative rails of a medium capacity transit line of the Taipei Rapid Transit System. Using synchronous potential measurements at three stations we examine potential profiles to locate potential rail sections with low resistance to ground qualitatively. Also the voltage sag values are used to quantitatively calculate rail-to-ground resistance per unit length. The approach presented in this paper requires only voltage measurements with the traction current as the energization source. Thus, this approach can be performed as a routine maintenance procedure to obtain rail-to-ground resistance values from a system-wide point of view.

In this article a theoretical investigation of the concept of cognitive closure including the historical involvement of research on this issue and an analysis of the relevant notions is presented. The concept of cognitive closure is considered from a historical point of view – concepts and theories that logically lead to the issue of studying cognitive styles and cognitive closure in particular are given. Such notions as ambiguity intolerance, certainty orientation, desire for a simple cognitive structure, dogmatism, fundamentalism and rigidity of thought are presented to be closely related to the cognitive closure. The most extended and developed construct of cognitive closure is found in the Lay Epistemic Theory. The specifi city of the cognitive closure construct is that in the Lay Epistemic Theory, the emphasis was shifted from the tendency to get rid of information as a psychological feature for an active dynamic (motivational) moment. Cognitive research is one of the promising areas of research in psychology, as it has great explanatory potential, which makes it possible to conduct applied research on various topics. Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of modern scientifi c periodicals, the most demanded lines of research are presented and it is concluded that the relevance of the topic is currently increasing.

Considering the large number of participants and the heterogeneity of the group, the research methodology of COBEREN has been defined in a very specific way. The authors implemented a mixed methodological approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques, and they used a various range of numerical, verbal, and even pictorial measurements. The scope for covering different dimensions of the consumer culture was made as open as possible but had to remain acceptable from the point of view of the survey response process. Finally, they successfully combined some a priori instructions/guidelines and some a posteriori adjustments/adaptations. This chapter introduces the data collection method, the sampling aspects, the questionnaire design and translation, implemented according to the general principles of the COBEREN methodology.

The aim of the article is to report the results of a migration to Open Source Software (OSS) in one public administration. The migration focuses on the office automation field and, in particular, on the OpenOffice.org suite. We have analysed the transition to OSS considering qualitative and quantitative data collected with the aid of different tools. All the data have been always considered from the point of view of the different stakeholders involved, IT managers, IT technicians, and users. The results of the project have been largely satisfactory. However the results cannot be generalised due to some constraints, like the environment considered and the parallel use of the old solution. Nevertheless, we think that the data collected can be of valuable aid to managers wishing to evaluate a possible transition to OSS.

Introduction. Citation network analysis is a powerful tool that allows for a visual and objective representation of the past, present, and potential future directions of a research field. The objective of this study is using citation analysis network to analyse the evolution of knowledge in the field of orthokeratology. Materials and Methods. The database used in this citation networks analysis study was Scopus. The descriptor used was “orthokeratology” limited to three fields: title, keywords, and/or abstract, analysing the five most cited authors. Only articles cited at least twenty times were used. The computer software used was UCINET with two types of analysis, qualitative and quantitative. Results. 27 nodes have been included according to the search and inclusion criteria. In qualitative analysis, based on illustrate results, the relationships among nodes and their positions and connections show how the study of Cho et al. in 2005 is clearly positioned as a central cutoff point in the network. Quantitative analysis reveals the normalized value of the sample and shows how the study of Cho et al. in 2005 presents the highest percentage of input connections. Conclusions. This study shows the state of the flow of information in the orthokeratology field by providing links in bibliographic citations from a qualitative and quantitative point of view.

Why should the Odra River mouth area not be regarded as an estuary? A geologist's point of viewThe authors find no arguments that would justify application of the term "estuary" to the area of the Odra River discharge into the Baltic Sea. The physiography, geology, and hydrology of the Odra river mouth show that the area possesses many more characteristics typical of flow-through coastal lagoons than those of estuaries. Of key importance in this respect is the Szczecin Lagoon, an extensive, shallow water body separated from the open sea by a barrier intersected by three narrow and long straits. The lagoonal nature of the area is demonstrated also by its geological history.

Background: Our objective was to provide consensus recommendations on the optimal management of the immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) seen in patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA) using a multidisciplinary approach, and to develop a simple tool to help earlier recognition and referral of coexisting IMIDs in patients who already have one type of IMID. Methods: A total of 28 experts in the multidisciplinary management of the SpA-associated IMIDs assessed two questionnaires: one with statements focused on the multidisciplinary management of IMIDs, and a second questionnaire focused on questions useful for early recognition and referral. Panelists assessed the statements with a 9-point ordinal scale (1 = strongly disagree, 9 = strongly agree) using a modified Delphi methodology. Results: Consensus was reached on 72 out of the 82 statements (87.8%). Panelists agreed that the multidisciplinary approach to IMIDs is not sufficiently developed. The creation of multidisciplinary IMID units might be necessary. These units might focus primarily on patients with two or more coexisting IMIDs, or on IMIDs that are especially complex from a diagnostic or therapeutic point of view. Specialists who attend to patients with IMIDs should perform a screening for other coexisting IMIDs. A simple tool to help earlier recognition and referral of coexisting IMIDs is proposed. Conclusions: There is a need to improve care for patients with SpA-associated IMIDs. We provide expert recommendations to guide the adoption of a multidisciplinary approach for these cases, and a simple tool that may be useful for earlier recognition of coexisting IMIDs.

ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to apply the beta model as an alternative to the Valuation Method in order to estimate the environmental asset Willingness to Pay (WTP) so that the Tribunal de Contas do Estado de Pernambuco (TCE/PE) can supervise the Atlântico Sul Shipyard (ASS) as a negative environmental externality, which is discussed here from an accounting perspective. Our methodology is exploratory, and the beta regression model was used in the contingent valuation to estimate the environmental asset. The results allowed estimating the value of the Ipojuca mangrove at US$ 134,079,793.50, and the value of the environmental damage caused by the shipyard to the public asset was valued at US$ 61,378,155.37. This latter value is object of interest to the inspection body. However, the final estimated value of the Ipojuca mangrove prompts a discussion about the implications from an accounting point of view, such as the attribution of monetary value to a public asset that does not have a financial value, problems regarding the conceptualization and valuation of public assets for governmental patrimony. It is concluded that the beta regression model to estimate the WTP for contingent valuation will serve as a contribution to the research on accounting measurement techniques for public assets.
