Adolescence is a period of growth and physical and emotional development for which, among other factors, it is necessary to ingest nutrients in sufficient quantity and quality to supply all the demands of the organism. As it is a phase of nutritional vulnerability, adolescents need to have their nutritional status monitored to prevent the lack of micronutrients from interfering with their full growth and development. Iron is a fundamental micronutrient for humans and its lack can lead to several physical and emotional impairments that interfere with good health conditions. This article presents the characteristics of the adolescent's growth and development and the consequences that can be caused by acquired iron deficiency during the second decade of life, with repercussions that can extend throughout adult life. It also proposes measures to prevent or minimize this nutritional problem among adolescents.

During development, the fetus is entirely dependent on the mother for its nutrient requirements. Subsequently, it is a period when both are vulnerable to changes in dietary supply, especially of those nutrients that are marginal under normal circumstances. In developed countries, this applies mainly to micronutrients. Even now, iron deficiency is a common disorder, especially in pregnancy. Similarly, copper intake in the U.K. population is rarely above adequate levels. It is now becoming clear that nutrient deficiencies during pregnancy can result in problems for the offspring, in both the short- and long-term. Early studies showed that lambs born to mothers on copper-deficient pastures developed ‘swayback’, with neurological and muscular symptoms that could not be reversed by postnatal supplementation. Our own findings have shown that prenatal iron deficiency results in increased postnatal blood pressure, even though the offspring have normal dietary iron levels from birth. These observations emphasize the importance of iron and copper in growth and development. Complicating the situation further is the fact that copper and iron are known to interact with each other in many ways, including absorption and intracellular transport. However, their interactions during the pregnancy appear to be more complex than during the non-pregnant state. In the present review, we examine the importance of these metals and their interactions, the consequences, both short- and long-term, of deficiency and consider some possible mechanisms whereby these effects may be generated.

The importance of paying attention to nutritional status in early childhood is useful for maximizing the growth phase of early childhood. One way to assess nutritional status for early childhood can be assessed by means of anthropometric measurements. Anthropometric measurements are measurements of various dimensions and body compositions of various ages, such as baby length, head circumference, height, weight, chest circumference, and upper arm circumference. TK Aisyiyah 15 Bustanul Athfal Banjarmasin is one of the schools that has not implemented early detection of the growth and development of pre-school children because the teachers do not understand how to examine and document the results of the examination. Efforts to strengthen the Stimulation, Detection and Early Development Development Program (SDIDTK). Methods ranging from FGDs, training and mentoring so that teachers acquire comprehensive skills in anthropometric examinations. The activity was carried out in August and was continued with mentoring for teachers to be able to monitor and evaluate activities. The results of activities in efforts to strengthen stimulation, detection and early intervention programs for growth and development produce skills for teachers in conducting anthropometric examinations and screening children's growth and development. Efforts to strengthen the program of stimulation, detection and early intervention for growth and development can increase teachers' knowledge in conducting anthropometric examinations and growth screening.

The effects of “standard (STD)” vs. “protein- and energy-enriched (HEHP)” food-service meals on the nutrient intake, nutritional status, functional capacity, and wellbeing of older adults was investigated using a 12 week, double-blinded, parallel group design. All participants received dietetics counseling and either an STD (2.3 MJ and 30 g protein per meal) or a HEHP (4.6 MJ and 60 g protein) hot lunchtime meal for at least 3 days/week; those who did not want food-service meals were included in the control group (CON). Twenty-nine participants completed the study (STD = 7; HEHP = 12; CON = 10). From baseline to week 12, the HEHP subjects increased their mean daily energy intake from 6151 ± 376 kJ to 8228 ± 642 kJ (p = 0.002 for effect of time) and protein intake from 67 ± 4 g to 86 ± 8 g (p = 0.014 for effect of time). The MNA (Mini Nutritional Assessment) score was increased significantly in HEHP by 4.0 ± 1.1 points (p = 0.001), but not in the STD and CON groups (2.8 ± 2.1 points and 1.8 ± 1.1 points, p > 0.05). No difference was found for other clinical outcomes between the groups. The findings indicate that provision of HEHP-fortified food-service meals can increase energy and protein intake and improve the nutritional status of nutritionally at-risk older people.

Background: Healthy children build a wealthy nation. Good health of children is of paramount importance to the nation’s growth. Health and nutritional status of school children is highly variable from one region to another due to different environmental, socioeconomic and cultural factors. Hence health status of school children from each area should be assessed periodically so that relevant health programmes can be applied to prevent common morbidities such as malnutrition, infections and infestations. Methods: A cross sectional study of 500 rural school children from 5 to 15 years was conducted to assess the nutritional status by anthropometry and health status by clinical examination.Results: Out of the 500 school children 46.8% girls, 71.4% were 5 to 10 years old, 70.2% studying in 1st to 5th class.  33.4% were stunted. 25.6% and 27% were underweight according to weight and Body mass index criteria respectively. Common health problems among school children in this study were anemia (31%), dental caries (27.2%), upper respiratory infections (13.4%), skin infections and scabies (12.6%), head lice infestation (6.8%), refractive errors (6%) and ear discharge (5.2%).Conclusions: Though the pattern of nutritional and health problems were same in different studies, the severity of them varied from region to region. Hence periodic screening of school children to identify them and to apply relevant health programmes goes a long way in reducing such morbidities.

Treatment of iron deficiency conditions by nutritive support media is one of the debatable areas. In the analysis of nutritional status, nutritional risk and ferrumdeficiency parameters in patients with operated colorectal cancer in different stages, the possibility of correction of prelatent and latent iron deficiency with ferrum‑containing media of nutritional alimentation is shown. With the development of anemia, the use of с intravenous correction (preferably with drugs sorbed on a special matrix that allows the gland to be isolated in portions) is shown.

Background: Nutrition in children is considered as a major concern for good health and also for normal growth and development. The present study aimed to estimate the prevalence of malnutrition in 1 to 6 years children.Methods: This was a community based cross sectional carried out in a south Indian tribal area for a period of 5 years among 1020 children. The anthropometric measurements categorization among children was done using world health organization (WHO) guidelines. Data was analyzed using microsoft excel 2010.Results: Out of 1020 children, nutritional status based on underweight, stunting and wasting was 30.80%, 26.8% and 15.68% respectively. Severe degree of underweight, stunting and wasting was observed in 76.4%, 64.7% and 5.49% respectively.Conclusions: Under nutrition was significantly high in infants and it decreased with increasing in age and significantly higher number of female children were stunted and underweight compared to male children.

Dietary habit is behaviors that are appropriate for the selection of the right foods so that they will provide good nutritional status. Nutrients that consist of macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and micro substances such as vitamins and minerals needed by the body for the process of growth and development. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between eating patterns with the nutritional status and cognitive abilities of elementary school children. Cross-Sectional research design. The population in this study were all students as many as 367 students, the sampling used was a Stratified random sampling technique, a sample of 192 respondents. Data analysis uses the Spearman Rank Rho statistical test. The results of the analysis of dietary variables with nutritional status were obtained ρ (0.003) <α (0.05), so H0 was rejected, meaning that there was a relationship between eating patterns and nutritional status of school-age children, with a value of r = 0.210 which showed a high positive correlation. The results of the analysis of nutritional status variables with cognitive abilities obtained results ρ = 0.00, <α = 0.05. meaning that there is a relationship between nutritional status and cognitive learning achievement in elementary school children. Normal nutritional status can be obtained by applying a positive diet so that the intake that enters the body in accordance with the needs of the body. Children who have normal nutritional status have good cognitive abilities. Parents are the most important support in optimizing children's growth and development

 Introdução: A saúde do trabalhador é um campo de relevância, mas que ainda está sendo consolidado no âmbito do sistema único de saúde (SUS). Partindo dessa compreensão, esse estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o estado nutricional e as condições de saúde dos agentes comunitários de saúde do município de Currais Novos-RN. Metodologia: Participaram da pesquisa 80 indivíduos de ambos os sexos. A coleta de dados envolveu um questionário padronizado elaborado especificamente para o referido trabalho, baseado na Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde, realizada por o IBGE, para analisar as condições de vida e de saúde. Além disso, foram realizadas aferição de medidas antropométricas como peso, estatura, circunferência abdominal e dobras cutâneas, para analisar o estado nutricional. A análise bivariada foi realizada por meio do teste Qui-quadrado de Pearson ou Exato de Fisher, sendo verificada a magnitude da associação através da razão de prevalência com intervalo de confiança de 95%, por meio do programa estatístico SPSS for Windows versão 22.0. Resultados: De acordo com os resultados, viu-se que 63,8% dos participantes encontram-se com Sobrepeso/Obesidade. Conclusão: Todos os dados antropométricos apresentaram diferença significativa na análise bivariada, demonstrando que essas variáveis exercem influência no estado nutricional desses.   Descritores: Agente Comunitário de Saúde; Saúde do Trabalhador; Condições de Saúde; Estado Nutricional.   ABSTRACTIntroduction:Workers' health is a field of relevance, but it is still being consolidated within the scope of the single health system (SUS). Results: According to the results, it was found that 63.8% of the participants they are Overweight / Obesity. Escherichia coli infections and poor nutritional status have implications on the growth and development of children under five years, physically, mentally and health wise with consequences such as diarrhoea, stunting, wasting, underweight and often times leading to death, depending on their severity. This study evaluated the antibiogram of Escherichia coli O157 and Verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC)and the nutritional status of diarrhoeic children under five years in Kaduna State, Nigeria, using Conventional isolation methods, latex agglutination tests, VTEC-ELISA tests, Chi-square (SPSS Version 19) and WHO Antro (Version 3.2.2). Purposive sampling was used to select 350 children presenting with diarrhoea in six government hospitals within the three senatorial zones of Kaduna State. The results obtained revealed that 76(21.7%) of the 350 stool samples were positive for E. coli and 28(36.8%) were positive for E. coli O157:H7serotype and 1(1.3%) verocytotoxigenic E. coli (VTEC) serotype. High susceptibility to ciprofloxacin, chloramphenicol and high resistance to sulphamethoxazole, cefotaxime, amoxicillin, gentamicin and tetracycline by the isolates were observed. The study concluded that antibiotics have not been very effective in the treatment of E. coli-related diarrhoea, with VTEC now emerging in this part of the world, making it a serious public health issue. The study therefore recommends the implementation of programmes geared towards good hygiene, good nutrition and good health.
