Nutraceuticals are playing vital role in today’s time given the recent changes in lifestyle, dietary patterns, and increased stress due to work related pressure. They can be organized in several ways depending upon its ease of understanding and application, i.e. for academic instruction, clinical trial design, functional food development or dietary recommendations. A study was carried out for a period of two months to assess the awareness and prescription pattern of nutraceuticals with reference to protein supplements and to evaluate factors that will drive the future demand. Responses were obtained from Doctors and chemists from a single metro city in India. The analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and frequency distribution valid percentage was calculated. Chi-Square test was performed to measure the association between the demographic factors to preferences for protein supplements. p- Value was calculated and α- value of 0.05 or less was considered significant. The results show that the maximum protein supplement was prescribed in the age group of 20-40 years. Doctors usually prescribe protein (44%) for convalescent followed by pre and post-operative cases (40%). Haematinics are the drugs, which are co-prescribed 30% of the times with protein. Responses from Chemists showed that self-prescription was prevalent amongst their buyer and many factors were identified which leads to self-prescription, amongst which buyer’s own previous experience was found to be significant (p-value-0.03). The study has helped to reveal the prescription pattern and practise of the doctors and of the factors leading to self-prescription.

Musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) is a disorder in workers. This work-related disease has a high prevalence globally. MSDs occurs in work environment that exposes workers to non-ergonomic posture. The disorder triggers fatigue and indirectly adds to the workload among workers. This study aims to analyze the relationship between work tenure, sex and work attitudes with musculoskeletal complaints in general refueling station operators in Kupang City. The research was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design. The research were conducted at 15 General Refueling Stations in Kupang from October to November 2019. A sample of 69 people were selected from the population of 222 operators. Data were analyzed by using chi-square (X2) with p-value = 0,05. The results showed that there was a relationship between musculoskeletal complaints and length of work (ρ-value= 0,004), gender (ρ-value 0,007) and work attitude (ρ-value= 0,001).

Background: According to World Health Organization, work-related health deals with all facets of health and determinants of one’s health may vary in different occupations. Identifying those determinants may be crucial for primary prevention of risks and adverse health conditions. Objective: To identify the physical and postural determinants of musculoskeletal disorders among dental healthcare professionals. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out amongst public and private sector dentists of Hyderabad. The data was collected through pre-tested questionnaire from 132 participants. Participants’ socio-demographic characteristics, personal information, work-related factors, physical load related factors and prevalence of different musculoskeletal pain sites were analyzed through frequencies. Associations were assessed using Pearson’s coefficient the strength of association was determined via Chi-square test. Results: Females (39.4%) as compared to males (60.6%) were more affected and most subjects falling in the age group of 24-28 years with +0.66 SD. The postgraduate (77.3%) individuals were more affected as compared to their graduate counterparts. Furthermore, majority complained of neck pain (65.8%) followed by back (64%) & shoulder (59.6) pain. The study also found out that majority of the dentists (95.6%) have a reduction in activity due to MSDs. The only significant association (P value = 0.039) was found between sleeping hours/day and occurrence of MS disorders. Conclusion: Musculoskeletal disorders amongst dentists were found in remarkably high number. Wrong posture and poor physical ergonomics of workspace are attributed to higher incidence of MSDs.

We aimed to investigate fatigue and its related factors in a medical professional population aged ≥30 years, as appraised by the implementation of an employee health screening program at Cheng Hsin General Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. The study participants included a total of 2132 (400 males and 1732 females) healthy medical professionals enrolled in a teaching hospital who underwent physical verification in 2019. Demographic characteristics and fatigue information were collected. The overall prevalence of personal- and work-related fatigue in this study population was 41.4% and 39.1%, respectively. The prevalence of a high risk of work- or personal-related fatigue proved to be substantially greater (p-value for chi-square test <0.0001) than it was for a low or moderate risk of personal-related fatigue. Using multinominal logistic regression analysis, seniority and position were statistically significant in relation to a high risk of personal- and work-related fatigue. Personal- and work-related fatigue were found to be prevalent in physicians and nurses. Lower seniority was also related to severe personal- or work-related fatigue. Providing this population with controlled working environments and health improvements is important.

Background and aim. Dentists are exposed to a wide range of work-related factors that may result in various occupational diseases of which musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are common. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and distribution of MSDs among dental professionals of our institution and to compare the prevalence of MSDs among the various dental specialists. Methods. A self-administered questionnaire, which included basic demographic details, work experience in dentistry, and work profile related questions along with the Standard Nordic Questionnaire, was administered to the study participants. Statistical analysis for the data obtained was performed using SPSS Version 16.0 (Chicago, SPSS Inc.). The  chi-square test was applied to test the association between MSD and variables such as gender, designation, type of dentistry and usage of computers. The Mann Whitney U test was used to assess the relationship between MSD and age, experience, sick leave, number of patients attended per day. A p-value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results. 151 subjects participated in the study, and the prevalence of MSD in the last 12 months among dental professionals was 58.3% (88 out of 151 subjects). The most common site affected by MSD was the neck (66.7%). Also, it was noted that among various dental specialists, the Endodontists suffered the maximum (88.02%) musculoskeletal pain. Fifty individuals (33.11%) suffered from pain in multiple sites. Conclusion. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders and pain can be reduced through proper operator-patient positioning, taking adequate breaks between patients, maintaining good physical health through regular exercises.

Abstract BackgroundIn this double-blinded randomized clinical trial, we aimed to compare safety and efficacy of combination of dexmedetomidine and ketamine (DK) with propofol and fentanyl (PF) for sedation in colonoscopy patients.MethodsIn this study, 64 patients undergoing colonoscopy were randomized in two groups, A, receiving PF, and B receiving DK for sedation. Among 64 patients, 31 patients included in PF and 33 patients included in DK group. Both groups were similar in terms of demographics. Patients’ sedation score (based on Ramsy scale) and vital signs recorded at the times of 2, 5, 10 and 15 minutes. Complications including apnea, hypotension, hypoxia, nausea and vomiting along with gastroenterologist satisfaction and patients’ pain score (based on Wong Baker faces pain assessment scale) recorded by a checklist. Data were analyzed by SPSS V.18, using chi-square, independent t-tests and repeated measure analysis with a p value < 0.05 significance level.ResultsThe mean score of sedation was 4.82 ± 0.49 in DK group and 5.22 ± 0.45 in PF group (p value = 0.001). Serious complications, including hypotension (p value = 0.005) and apnea (p value = 0.10) were significantly higher in PF group. Satisfaction of gastroenterologist (p value = 0.400) and patients’ pain score (p value = 0.900) were similar among groups.ConclusionCombination of DK provides sufficient sedation with less complications in compare with PF in colonoscopy patients.Trial registrationThe study protocol designed on the basis of Helsinki declaration for ethical consideration and was approved by the Ethics Committee of Qom University of Medical Sciences (ethics code: IR.MUQ.REC.1397.149); the study was also registered at the Iranian Center for Clinical Trials (No. IRCT20161205031252N11).

Abstract Cytogenetic analysis has become an integral part of diagnosis and prognostication of acute myeloid (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Consequently, CALGB mandates cytogenetic analyses for adult AML and ALL first-line treatment trials and many correlative studies. It is thus imperative that cytogenetic data are accurate. To this end, CALGB has performed central review of karyotypes (CRK) submitted by CALGB approved institutional cytogenetics laboratories since 1985. In this study, we have evaluated the role of CRK in ensuring that high quality cytogenetic data are available to CALGB researchers using two criteria: 1) the proportion of specimens deemed on CRK to be of sufficient vs insufficient quality to be included in the CALGB database (ie, accepted vs rejected according to the criteria published by Byrd et al, Blood2002;100:4325–4336), and 2) among the accepted cases, the proportion of submitted karyotypes whose interpretation was changed during CRK. In our analyses, we excluded samples studied cytogenetically during complete remission, because they differ from pretreatment and relapse samples in that they rarely contain leukemic cells and usually are karyotypically normal. Overall, 18% of AML and 35% of ALL karyotypes submitted were not accepted (Table). The most common reason for rejecting a karyotype on CRK was inadequate banding quality, which accounted for rejection in 41% of AML and 34% of ALL inadequate cases. Disease All Specimens 1986 CRK 2001-2003 CRK P-value* * A comparison of the rejection rates between the 1986 and 2001–2003 CRKs using Chi-square test; † % of the accepted specimens AML No. of specimens reviewed 4169 269 795 <0.0001 % rejected on CRK 18% 30% 12% % revised on CRK† 26% ALL No. of specimens reviewed 996 92 65 0.004 % rejected on CRK 35% 49% 26% % revised on CRK† 25% The quality of the submitted karyotypes, measured by the proportion of rejected cases, has improved significantly in both AML and ALL since 1986. However, CRK in 2001–2003 still found 12% of AML and 26% of ALL samples inadequate. Among karyotypes deemed adequate, we analyzed in detail revisions made during the 2001–2003 CRK. Changes in karyotype interpretation were made in 26% of AML and 25% of ALL cases. The revisions included identification or reinterpretation, other than reassignment of breakpoints, of the chromosome abnormality (seen in 52% of samples with karyotype errors), a misidentified or upside down chromosome(s) (34%), reassignment of breakpoints in structural aberrations recognized by the submitting laboratory (28%) and correction of errors in the ISCN (1995) nomenclature (15%). Examples of clinically relevant changes in karyotype interpretation included revisions of a normal karyotype to an abnormal one that harbored inv(3)(q21q26), t(9;11)(p22;q23), t(11;19)(q23;p13.1), or inv(16)(p13q22), change from del(11)(q23) to t(6;11)(q27;q23), etc. Overall, 35% of AML and 45% of ALL samples submitted were either rejected or revised on CRK. We conclude that although we observed an improvement in quality of cytogenetic analyses over time, central review of karyotypes still plays a vital role in ensuring the success of the clinical trials and correlative studies conducted by cooperative groups.
