This qualitative study aimed to know in what ways the verbal (oral mode) and non-verbal (visual mode and gestural mode) semiotic resources help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising. The study used the Multimodal approach to help analyze the data. The writer collected and analyzed the data from Dove’s My Beauty My Say video. The findings showed that the verbal semiotic resources help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising by orally informing the audiences about the problems and arguments that are faced by the women in the video and how they responded to the problems in order to empower all the women. Meanwhile, the non-verbal semiotic resources help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising by revealing women in the authentic form and outside of traditional gender stereotypes so that they can deliver predominantly pro-female messages that can empower themselves and other women who are facing the similar problems as they do. The non-verbal semiotic resources are delivered by using the gestures (e.g. facial expression and body language) and objects (e.g. outfits, dominated background color, focus of the camera) in the video. In conclusion, I observe these semiotic resources are important to help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising. Keywords: Femvertising, Multimodal, Verbal semiotic resources, Non-verbal semiotic resources

Fierce competition in increasing market share growth prompts companies to strive to create a memorable brand identity. One common method adopted by some companies is using a video advertisement, which contains the message they want to convey about their product or brand. This message is intended to persuade people who see the advertisement to buy their product. In doing so, companies usually use the visual, linguistic, spatial and other semiotic resources, often referred to as a semiotic mode. Through the case study of Innisfree’s video advertisement “Brand History,” we analyze how Innisfree uses linguistic, spatial, and visual mode for creating a message that enables consumers to remember and to persuade them buy its product. Our findings show that the message in the video advertisement is that Innisfree is a beauty product that upholds nature as its ingredients, has high quality, and preserves the environment where it takes its ingredients. Key Words: Advertisement, Persuasion, Modes, Verbal and Non-verbal expressions.

This chapter considers our communication skills in the interview and describes techniques to help communicate effectively with the interviewer. It starts by looking at the psychological context of communication, and then moves onto verbal communication, considering the way content is delivered in its conciseness, tone, and volume. It discusses depth and breadth of content and how to hint at a broader level of understanding in the interview without straying from the question. Our non-verbal communication and expression reflects our core underlying state and this theme is explored by considering body language and facial expression, appropriate language, signposting, and summarizing. The chapter discusses the illusion of structure and includes an exercise to improve our dissemination, accuracy, and fluency of speech. The chapter finishes by learning how to listen and thinking about what makes an expert communicator.

The semiotic analysis of the film takes place in the text which is the structure of the sign production. Part of the marking structure in a film is usually contained in the smallest sign element, in a film called a scen. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. This approach is considered appropriate, with the procedure carried out by the researcher, producing descriptive data in the form of words produced from observing signs in the form of visual, moving images, body language and audio / sound contained in the film The Curious Of Benjamin Button. The scope of this research are several scenes that represent the film The Curious Of Benjamin Button. It can be concluded that in a film like The Curious Of Benjamin Button, the audience can read the sign given by the cast of the film The Curious Of Benjamin Button. Through signs such as sound, body movements, facial expressions, the appearance of characters and others in the film, the audience can conclude the contents of a film from the signs given by the director during the film. Therefore, in making films such as taking pictures and all the elements in a film cannot be made carelessly. Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a complex and heterogeneous disease that has a major impact on the lives of patients and their family caregivers. The duodopa pump is one of the treatments options for advanced PD. The experience of patients with this treatment is largely unexplored, however. This study is based on the experiences of patients with PD as well as their family caregivers using the pump. We take a multimodal approach that includes narrative semi-structured interviews and drawings. This methodology helps participants, particularly those with difficulty articulating themselves, express their experience with the disease and their perception of the treatment. We believe that the use of drawings complementing semi-structured interviews offers additional insights into the participants’ perception of PD and the pump. In this article we focus on the following topics: the participants’ perception of PD and the pump, the reasons for choosing the pump over alternatives, and the advantages and disadvantages of this treatment for patients and family caregivers. Our findings show that the participants consider PD as a complex and unpredictable disease that changed their lives and affect everyone differently, while the pump makes the disease less changeable and more manageable.
