This study aims to know the effect of inflation on Murabahah (sale-purchase agrrement between the bank and the customer with known profit) financing in Sharia banks in Indonesia. The data in this study are secondary data from the official website of each Sharia bank and then analyzed by using simple regression analysis. The finding shows that the inflation rate has a positive and significant effect on Murabahah financing in Sharia banks in Indonesia. The positive coefficient indicates that an increase in inflation will make people greatly desire to apply for Murabahah financing because they are worried about a greater increase in inflation in the following year. This aldo occurs because the increase in inflation makes people save a lot in Sharia banks, so that banks must optimally use these funds in the form of financing operations of what is called Murabaha financing. The coefficient of determination is 0.9871, meaning that 98.71% of Murabahah financing in Sharia banks in Indonesia is explained by the inflation rate. Meanwhile, 1.29% is the variability of other variables on Murabahah financing, such as banking profit variables, CAR ratios, NPF ratios, and third party funds.

With the widespread use of the internet, exploring how it will influence the labor market is of great significance. Based on the 2010-2018 China Family Panel Studies dataset, this paper investigates the effect of the internet on sustainable employability among Chinese aged 16-60. The empirical results of the panel double-hurdle model show that the internet can significantly enhance an individual's competitiveness in the labor market. Moreover, the heterogeneity tests show that the middle aged and older adults, freelancers, and those living in disadvantaged regions can benefit more on employability brought about by the internet. The authors define this phenomenon as the information welfare of the internet, which has narrowed the digital gap caused by the uneven development of technology among different social groups. In addition, the positive coefficient associated with internet use is driven by higher skill requirements in specific workplaces. The authors further explored the role workplace computerization has had in this process.

Despite the growing studies of Baitul Maal wa Tamwil (BMT) in Indonesia, few have empirically analyzed how BMT increases household welfare, primarily through credit for productive activities. This study aimed to analyze the impact of BMT availability in the community on household welfare. Considering that credit is targeted for productive activities, the researchers limited the respondents to farmer households and households with non-farming business activities, amounting to 4642 and 2250, respectively. Utilizing longitudinal data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS), the analysis was conducted employing the difference-in-difference (DiD) method. The results showed that BMT's existence in the community improved farmer households' mean welfare by 1.65%. After controlling for household and community characteristics, consistent results were obtained with a small decrease in the coefficient of 1.58%. Meanwhile, households with non-farming business activities were not affected by the existence of BMT in their community. Nevertheless, a positive coefficient of diff-in-diff indicated that BMT and welfare had a positive relationship even though it was not strong enough to be a contributor to the outcome.

ABSTRACT Background Epidemiologic studies have reported a modest inverse association between dairy consumption and the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Whether plasma metabolite profiles associated with dairy consumption reflect this relationship remains unknown. Objectives We aimed to identify the plasma metabolites associated with total and specific dairy consumption, and to evaluate the association between the identified multi-metabolite profiles and T2D. Methods The discovery population included 1833 participants from the Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea (PREDIMED) trial. The confirmatory cohorts included 1522 PREDIMED participants at year 1 of the trial and 4932 participants from the Nurses’ Health Studies (NHS), Nurses’ Health Study II (NHSII), and Health Professionals Follow-Up Study US-based cohorts. Dairy consumption was assessed using validated FFQs. Plasma metabolites (n = 385) were profiled using LC-MS. We identified the dairy-related metabolite profiles using elastic net regularized regressions with a 10-fold cross-validation procedure. We evaluated the associations between the metabolite profiles and incident T2D in the discovery and the confirmatory cohorts. Results Total dairy intake was associated with 38 metabolites. C14:0 sphingomyelin (positive coefficient), C34:0 phosphatidylethanolamine (positive coefficient), and γ-butyrobetaine (negative coefficient) were associated in a directionally similar fashion with total and specific (milk, yogurt, cheese) dairy consumption. The Pearson correlation coefficients between self-reported total dairy intake and predicted total dairy intake based on the corresponding multi-metabolite profile were 0.37 (95% CI, 0.33–0.40) in the discovery cohort and 0.16 (95% CI, 0.13–0.19) in the US confirmatory cohort. After adjusting for T2D risk factors, a higher total dairy intake–related metabolite profile score was associated with a lower T2D risk [HR per 1 SD; discovery cohort: 0.76 (95% CI, 0.63–0.90); US confirmatory cohort: 0.88 (95% CI, 0.78–0.99)]. Conclusions Total dairy intake was associated with 38 metabolites, including 3 consistently associated with dairy subtypes (C14:0 sphingomyelin, C34:0 phosphatidylethanolamine, γ-butyrobetaine). A score based on the 38 identified metabolites showed an inverse association with T2D risk in Spanish and US populations.

One of the five basic optical aberrations is Distortion. Whether the Distortion aberration has a positive or negative sign determines whether it is described as “Pincushion” or “Barrel” distortion. The origin of the term “Barrel” distortion is obvious—the image of a square object produced by an optical system with negative distortion resembles a classic “barrel” shape. But one with a positive coefficient produces a shape that is not that of the pincushions of my acquaintance. What kinds of pincushions inspired the name of this characteristic aberration, and who came up with it?
