Abstract In this paper, we classify the compact locally homogeneous non-gradient m-quasi Einstein 3- manifolds. Along the way, we also prove that given a compact quotient of a Lie group of any dimension that is m-quasi Einstein, the potential vector field X must be left invariant and Killing. We also classify the nontrivial m-quasi Einstein metrics that are a compact quotient of the product of two Einstein metrics. We also show that S1 is the only compact manifold of any dimension which admits a metric which is nontrivially m-quasi Einstein and Einstein.

Dryocosmus kuriphilus (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) induces galls on chestnut trees, which results in massive yield losses worldwide. Torymus sinensis (Hymenoptera: Torymidae) is a host-specific parasitoid that phenologically synchronizes with D. kuriphilus. Bacteria play important roles in the life cycle of galling insects. The aim of this research is to investigate the bacterial communities and predominant bacteria of D. kuriphilus, T. sinensis, D. kuriphilus galls and the galled twigs of Castanea mollissima. We sequenced the V5–V7 region of the bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA in D. kuriphilus, T. sinensis, D. kuriphilus galls and galled twigs using high-throughput sequencing for the first time. We provide the first evidence that D. kuriphilus shares most bacterial species with T. sinensis, D. kuriphilus galls and galled twigs. The predominant bacteria of D. kuriphilus are Serratia sp. and Pseudomonas sp. Furthermore, the bacterial community structures of D. kuriphilus and T. sinensis clearly differ from those of the other groups. Many species of the Serratia and Pseudomonas genera are plant pathogenic bacteria, and we suggest that D. kuriphilus may be a potential vector of plant pathogens. Furthermore, a total of 111 bacteria are common to D. kuriphilus adults, T. sinensis, D. kuriphilus galls and galled twigs, and we suggest that the bacteria may transmit horizontally among D. kuriphilus, T. sinensis, D. kuriphilus galls and galled twigs on the basis of their ecological associations.

Rhodnius neglectus is a potential vector of Trypanosoma cruzi (Tc), the causative agent of Chagas disease. The salivary glands (SGs) and intestine (INT) are actively required during blood feeding. The saliva from SGs is injected into the vertebrate host, modulating immune responses and favoring feeding for INT digestion. Tc infection significantly alters the physiology of these tissues; however, studies that assess this are still scarce. This study aimed to gain a better understanding of the global transcriptional expression of genes in SGs and INT during fasting (FA), fed (FE), and fed in the presence of Tc (FE + Tc) conditions. In FA, the expression of transcripts related to homeostasis maintenance proteins during periods of stress was predominant. Therefore, the transcript levels of Tret1-like and Hsp70Ba proteins were increased. Blood appeared to be responsible for alterations found in the FE group, as most of the expressed transcripts, such as proteases and cathepsin D, were related to digestion. In FE + Tc group, there was a decreased expression of blood processing genes for insect metabolism (e.g., Antigen-5 precursor, Pr13a, and Obp), detoxification (Sult1) in INT and acid phosphatases in SG. We also found decreased transcriptional expression of lipocalins and nitrophorins in SG and two new proteins, pacifastin and diptericin, in INT. Several transcripts of unknown proteins with investigative potential were found in both tissues. Our results also show that the presence of Tc can change the expression in both tissues for a long or short period of time. While SG homeostasis seems to be re-established on day 9, changes in INT are still evident. The findings of this study may be used for future research on parasite-vector interactions and contribute to the understanding of food physiology and post-meal/infection in triatomines.

In the present paper, we investigate the nature of Ricci-Yamabe soliton on an imperfect fluid generalized Robertson-Walker spacetime with a torse-forming vector field ξ . Furthermore, if the potential vector field ξ of the Ricci-Yamabe soliton is of the gradient type, the Laplace-Poisson equation is derived. Also, we explore the harmonic aspects of η -Ricci-Yamabe soliton on an imperfect fluid GRW spacetime with a harmonic potential function ψ . Finally, we examine necessary and sufficient conditions for a 1 -form η , which is the g -dual of the vector field ξ on imperfect fluid GRW spacetime to be a solution of the Schrödinger-Ricci equation.

Biting midges of genus Culicoides (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) are the vectors of several pathogenic arboviruses and parasites of humans and animals. Several reports have suggested that biting midges might be a potential vector of Leishmania parasites. In this study, we screened for Leishmania and Trypanosoma DNA in biting midges collected from near the home of a leishmaniasis patient in Lamphun province, northern Thailand by using UV-CDC light traps. The identification of biting midge species was based on morphological characters and confirmed using the Cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. The detection of Leishmania and Trypanosoma DNA was performed by amplifying the internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) and small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) genes, respectively. All the amplified PCR amplicons were cloned and sequenced. The collected 223 biting midges belonged to seven species (Culicoides mahasarakhamense, C. guttifer, C. innoxius, C. sumatrae, C. huffi, C. oxystoma, and C. palpifer). The dominant species found in this study was C. mahasarakhamense (47.53%). Leishmania martiniquensis DNA was detected in three samples of 106 specimens of C. mahasarakhamense tested indicating a field infection rate of 2.83%, which is comparable to reported rates in local phlebotomines. Moreover, we also detected Trypanosoma sp. DNA in one sample of C. huffi. To our knowledge, this is the first molecular detection of L. martiniquensis in C. mahasarakhamense as well as the first detection of avian Trypanosoma in C. huffi. Blood meal analysis of engorged specimens of C. mahasarakhamense, C. guttifer, and C. huffi revealed that all specimens had fed on avian, however, further studies of the host ranges of Culicoides are needed to gain a better insight of potential vectors of emerging leishmaniasis. Clarification of the vectors of these parasites is also important to provide tools to establish effective disease prevention and control programs in Thailand.

We categorize almost quasi-Yamabe solitons on LP -Sasakian manifolds and their CR -submanifolds whose potential vector field is torse-forming, admitting a generalized symmetric metric connection of type α , β . Finally, a nontrivial example is provided to confirm some of our results.

Maize striate mosaic virus (MSMV; genus Mastrevirus), was recently reported in maize plants in Brazil, and also detected by metagenomic analyses in the corn leafhopper, Dalbulus maidis (DeLong & Wolcott). Although these findings suggested that D. maidis is a potential vector, no transmission studies have been performed. Here, we tested the transmission of MSMV by D. maidis from field-collected infected plants and plants infected with MSMV via leafhopper-mediated transmission in the laboratory; all plants were confirmed positive for MSMV by PCR. In each one of three transmission replicates, aviruliferous D. maidis nymphs and adults were confined together on a source plant during a 4-day acquisition access period (AAP), and subsequently transferred to healthy maize seedlings (10 individuals per test plant) in a series of 4-day inoculation access periods (IAPs). We also tested transmission by the corn aphid, Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) and by mechanical inoculation of healthy maize seedlings. Only D. maidis transmitted MSMV, with overall transmission rates of 29.4 and 39.5% using field-collected infected plants, and 18.5% using infected plants in laboratory. D. maidis transmitted MSMV until the third (8-12 days after the AAP) or fourth successive IAP (12-16 days) with gradual loss in transmission efficiency and rate of viruliferous insects over time, suggesting a persistent, but non-propagative mode of transmission. Infected test plants showed mottling symptoms with mild chlorotic streaks and height reduction. This is the first report of transmission of a mastrevirus by D. maidis, facilitating the completion of Koch’s postulate for MSMV.

Abstract Culex quinquefasciatus is a mosquito known as Japanese encephalitis (JE) vector in several regions in Indonesia. The bioecological study is essential to optimize the vector control of JE. The purpose of the study was to obtain the ecological information of Cx. quinquefasciatus in 15 provinces in Indonesia: Aceh, West Sumatra, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, Banten, West and East Java, West and South Kalimantan, North and Southeast Sulawesi, East and West Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and North Maluku. Mosquitoes were collected using the human landing catches (HLCs), light trap, and morning resting collection. The larva survey was conducted in potential habitats of Cx. quinquefasciatus. The mosquito was detected for the JE virus using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The distribution of Cx. quinquefasciatus was recorded using a GPS tool and visualized using Global Mapper. The results showed that Cx. quinquefasciatus in 15 provinces had similar behavior. The Cx. quinquefasciatus sucked blood indoors and was found throughout the night. Peak density of Cx. quinquefasciatus varies by province. Cx. quinquefasciatus breeding places are found in most ecosystems in various altitudes. Based on PCR examination, the JE virus has not been detected, thus lowering the potential for JE transmission in some provinces in Indonesia.
