Background: Physician review websites have influence on a patient’s selection of a provider. Written reviews are subjective and difficult to quantitatively analyze. Sentiment analysis of writing can quantitatively assess surgeon reviews to provide actionable feedback for surgeons to improve practice. The objective of this study is to quantitatively analyze large subset of written reviews of hand surgeons using sentiment analysis and report unbiased trends in words used to describe the reviewed surgeons and biases associated with surgeon demographic factors. Methods: Online written and star-rating reviews of hand surgeons were obtained from healthgrades.com and webmd.com . A sentiment analysis package was used to calculate compound scores of all reviews. Mann-Whitney U tests were performed to determine the relationship between demographic variables and average sentiment score of written reviews. Positive and negative word and word-pair frequency analysis was also performed. Results: A total of 786 hand surgeons’ reviews were analyzed. Analysis showed a significant relationship between the sentiment scores and overall average star-rated reviews ( r2 = 0.604, P ≤ .01). There was no significant difference in review sentiment by provider sex; however, surgeons aged 50 years and younger had more positive reviews than older ( P < .01). The most frequently used bigrams used to describe top-rated surgeons were associated with good bedside manner and efficient pain management, whereas those with the worst reviews are often characterized as rude and unable to relieve pain. Conclusions: This study provides insight into both demographic and behavioral factors contributing to positive reviews and reinforces the importance of pain expectation management.

Almost half of patients referred to orthopedic surgeons for Total Joint Arthroplasty (TJA) do not require TJA at that time or are not appropriate surgical candidates. The objective was to explore patients’ perspectives of a Surgical Readiness Interview Tool and its potential utility in the Osteoarthritis (OA) management process. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with a convenience sample of patients from arthroplasty clinics in Alberta. All interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim. Analysis was conducted iteratively, applying a constant comparison method. Nine patients were interviewed. Participants found the interview tool to be relevant and comprehensible. Suggestions were made on how to improve tool clarity and administration processes. Patient orientation versus that of the doctor, and expectation management emerged as salient factors in the meaningful application of the tool. As a result of the interviews, a revised tool was developed which incorporated the participant suggestions. Patients were positive about the interview tool and felt that it would lead to better care provision, particularly with incorporation of participants’ suggestions. The data suggest that the interview tool could improve the conversation on surgical readiness, conservative management, and addressing modifiable risk factors prior to TJA.

Introduction: Post-traumatic patellofemoral auto fusion is poorly described in the literature and its etiology may be multifactorial. Management options are not well published and this case report addresses a rare and complex case of patellofemoral autofusion after a patellar tendon repair with a description of our surgical approach and ultimately improvement in patient outcome and satisfaction. Case Presentation: A 59-year-old African American female suffered an acute traumatic patellar tendon rupture that was treated with a primary repair that resulted in sequelae leading to a subsequent open procedure revealing an osseous bridge between the patella and trochlea. After osteotomy of this bridge, the patient’s range of motion improved. Conclusion: For the appropriate management of arthrofibrosis surgeons should focus on modifiable risk factors including close follow-up with patients, patient expectation management, and consider surgical intervention such as techniques described below in recalcitrant cases to evaluate for post-traumatic sequelae including bone bridge formation. Keywords: Patella tendon, arthrofibrosis, tendon repair.

Abstract Background The morphometric results after breast augmentations are generally understood to be clinically different between trans(gender) and cis(gender) women. The objective of this study was to establish these morphometric differences between the augmented breasts of trans and cis women and their implications for preoperative planning and expectation management of trans women. Methods A single-center, observational cross-sectional study was conducted. Three-dimensional images (VECTRA) of the chest were taken and used to measure preset morphometric parameters. Subsequently, several proportional morphometric outcome variables were calculated. We compared body, breast, and nipple dimensions and their interdependence between trans and cis women. The main outcome sets were (1) the relative dimensions of the chest, (2) the position of the breasts relative to the chest, (3) and the position of the nipple relative to the breast and nipple size. Results A total of 22 transgender and 22 cisgender women were included. The results showed that the breasts of the trans women were positioned more cranial. Furthermore, the nipple-areola complexes (NAC) were significantly smaller and positioned relatively more latero-cranial on the breasts. Conclusions Morphological characteristics of augmented breasts differ significantly between trans and cis women. The results of this study identified distinct differences between the augmented breasts of trans and cis women. Because of the apparent differences in results, surgical considerations, expectation management, and shared decision-making should play an even more pronounced role in breast augmentations in trans women. Level of evidence: Level III, risk/prognostic study.

Due to the changing environmental culture at homes, schools, colleges and society at large, the students develop anxiety. In general, academic anxiety is found among the learners of Medical and Engineering studies. The researcher prepared a academic anxiety scale to measure the academic anxiety among medical and engineering learners. The learners with academic anxiety was treated with a peace education model comprising of various activities related to positivity, personality, time management, sports competence, and expectation management. There was significant difference found among the Medical and Engineering Undergraduate learners after the implementation of the peace model. The quasi – Experimental pre-test post -test non- equivalent group design was used to evaluate the development of peace education among engineering and medical learners. The inferential analysis was done by using the independent ‘t test’. The findings of the study indicated that the peace strategies used were successful.

PurposeThis study, an exploratory research, aims to investigate social media users' expectations of information systems (IS) products that are conceived but not yet launched. It specifically analyses social media data from Twitter about forthcoming smartphones and smartwatches from Apple and Samsung, two firms known for their innovative gadgets.Design/methodology/approachTweets related to the following four forthcoming IS products were retrieved from 1st January 2020 to 30th September 2020: (1) Apple iPhone 12 (6,125 tweets), (2) Apple Watch 6 (553 tweets), (3) Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 (923 tweets) and (4) Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 3 (207 tweets). These 7,808 tweets were analysed using a combination of the Natural Language Processing Toolkit (NLTK) and sentiment analysis (SentiWordNet).FindingsThe online community was quite vocal about topics such as design, camera and hardware specifications. For all the forthcoming gadgets, the proportion of positive tweets exceeded that of negative tweets. The most prevalent sentiment expressed in Apple-related tweets was neutral, but in Samsung-related tweets was positive. Additionally, it was found that the proportion of tweets echoing negative sentiment was lower for Apple compared with Samsung.Originality/valueThis paper is the earliest empirical work to examine the degree to which social media chatter can be used by project managers for IS development projects, specifically for the purpose of end-users' expectation management.

AbstractWe consider the application of a Fleischer–Jegerlehner-like treatment of tadpoles to the calculation of neutral scalar masses (including the Higgs) in general theories beyond the Standard Model. This is especially useful when the theory contains new scalars associated with a small expectation value, but comes with its own disadvantages. We show that these can be overcome by combining with effective field theory matching. We provide the formalism in this modified approach for matching the quartic coupling of the Higgs via pole masses at one loop, and apply it to both a toy model and to the $$\mu $$ μ NMSSM as prototypes where the standard treatment can break down.

Abstract Purpose Despite the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol, length of stay (LOS) after colorectal surgery varies considerably. The majority of longer admissions is often not medically necessary. We aimed to investigate possible reduction of LOS by perioperative education with an expected discharge date (EDD). Methods This single-centre retrospective study included 578 patients who underwent surgery for colorectal cancer in 2016 with standard care (ERAS) and in 2018 with the addition of EDD education program (ERAS+). A comparison was made of a 1-year period prior to and following the implementation of EDD. The EDD was discussed at the outpatient clinic, preoperatively and during admission (with both the patient and family members daily). Standard EDD varied between 3 and 5 days depending on the resection type. Primary outcome was LOS; secondary outcomes were readmission, serious complications and 90-day mortality. Results Patients in ERAS+ (n = 242) had a shorter median LOS (4.0 vs. 5.0, p < 0.001) compared to patients in the regular ERAS group (n = 336). Fewer patients of ERAS+ experienced postoperative complications (71 (29.3%) vs. 198 (58.9%), p < 0.001). No difference was found in the number of readmissions (23 (9.5%) vs. 34 (10.1%), p = 0.807), reinterventions (25 (10.3%) vs. 30 (8.9%), p = 0.571) or mortality (5 (2.1%) vs. 9 (2.7%), p = 0.261) between the two groups. Conclusion It is possible to reduce LOS within the ERAS program, by better perioperative education and expectation management of patients with use of an EDD. This program ensures better understanding, faster discharge and lower costs for the hospital without added risk of readmissions or complications.

Internationalization agenda, especially the Erasmus framework, has become a significant process affecting the Turkish higher education. Erasmus, as being the most influential and preferred mobility scheme, has attracted significant attention and witnessed increasing number of students in years. There are various studies on the outcomes of the Erasmus program in terms of social, cultural, and academic gains of students as well as associated challenges and influence of the Bologna Process on the Turkish higher education outlook. However, there are less visited concepts in terms of challenges that need further attention. This paper addresses these less visited subjects such as project management/implementation issues (diversity, funding, and outcomes), politics of difference, and consumerist approaches. The findings suggest that these issues may complicate program implementations and run the risk of hindering general program targets, leading to a paradoxical outlook such a becoming exclusive to certain group of students, emphasizing difference rather than mutual understanding, seeing the experience as a to-do list item. So, the tension between various issues such as consumerist approaches, politics of difference and project implementation issues and general program targets and outcomes must be acknowledged towards emphasizing the critical role of appropriate student advising and expectation management as well as development of flexible and diverse evaluation-placement methods for efficient and positive program implementation.
