AbstractHumans interact with other humans at a variety of timescales and in a variety of social contexts. We exhibit patterns of coordination that may differ depending on whether we are genuinely interacting as part of a coordinated group of individuals vs merely co-existing within the same physical space. Moreover, the local coordination dynamics of an interacting pair of individuals in an otherwise non-interacting group may spread, propagating change in the global coordination dynamics and interaction of an entire crowd. Dynamical systems analyses, such as Recurrence Quantification Analysis (RQA), can shed light on some of the underlying coordination dynamics of multi-agent human interaction. We used RQA to examine the coordination dynamics of a performance of “Welcome to the Imagination World”, composed for wind orchestra. This performance enacts a real-life simulation of the transition from uncoordinated, non-interacting individuals to a coordinated, interacting multi-agent group. Unlike previous studies of social interaction in musical performance which rely on different aspects of video and/or acoustic data recorded from each individual, this project analyzes group-level coordination patterns solely from the group-level acoustic data of an audio recording of the performance. Recurrence and stability measures extracted from the audio recording increased when musicians coordinated as an interacting group. Variability in these measures also increased, indicating that the interacting ensemble of musicians were able to explore a greater variety of behavior than when they performed as non-interacting individuals. As an orchestrated (non-emergent) example of coordination, we believe these analyses provide an indication of approximate expected distributions for recurrence patterns that may be measurable before and after truly emergent coordination.

Introduction. In the system of artistic and visual means, the epithet occupies one of the important places. To create a heroic image, the narrator uses epithets that characterize the status of the hero, age and heroic merits of the heroes. Goal and tasks. The purpose of the article is to study artistic-identifying combinations - epithets in the recordings of the song “Shara Gyurgyu” at different times, to identify their preservation and change over time. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were solved: epithets were identified in three different-temporal texts of the song “Shara Gyurgyu” (1862, 1970, 1971), a comparative analysis of artistic-identifying combinations in the texts of different dzhangarchi was carried out. Method. To study the poetical and stylistic texture, we applied the comparative method. The material of the research was records of different times: 1) “The Song about how the famous Ulan Shovshur of the mangas khan of the Ferocious Shara Gyurgyu reproached the Maloderbet cycle of 1862; 2) an audio recording of “Songs about the duel of a lion [-the hero] Ulan Khongor the Beautiful with the Ferocious Shara Gyurgyu” by Jangarchi Telty Lidzhiev 1970; 3) audio recording of “Song of Shara Gyurgyu” by jangarchi Mikhail Mandzhiev 1971. Results. The study of epithets in recordings of the song “Shara Gyurgyu” at different times showed that over more than a century that has passed since the first recording, the epic text in its artistic embodiment has undergone changes. The song “Shara Gyurgyu” of the Maloderbet cycle of 1862 is distinguished by an abundance of epithets, while in the recordings of the late tradition of the epic, there is a transformation of the artistic level of the text. Storytellers Teltya Lidzhiev and Mikhail Mandzhiev adhere to the main plot structure in the process of performance, without sharpening attention to poetic tropes. Observations of the texts of different storytellers at different times show that Dzhangarchi, having a wider epic knowledge, performs the song in accordance with the criteria of fidelity of reproduction, following the tradition of the epic school to which he belonged. A comparative analysis of recordings of the song “Shara Gyurgyu” at different times allowed us to identify constant units at the level of textual embodiment, which accumulate the poetical and stylistic basis of the epic narrative and mark the key links of the epic narration of the Kalmyk heroic epic “Dzhangar”.

The research aims to find out the types of code-mixing used by English Education Department students during their presentation activity in the classroom in STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa and to identify why did the students used the code-mixing. The participants of this research were 4 English Department students of STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa. This research used observation, audio recording, and interview techniques in collecting the data. The result showed that there were two types of code mixing that used by English students in the presentation process, namely insertion code mixing, and alternation code mixing. Insertion code mixing was the dominant type that used by English students in the presentation process. There were 32 utterances categorized as insertion code mixing, and 9 utterances were categorized as alternation code mixing. While the reasons of student using code mixing in the presentation process were mostly because of the situation and lack of vocabulary.

This paper is based on the experience gained while transcribing the audio recording of the round table discussion on polyglottery and education held at the international conference Multilingual Proficiency: Language, Polyglossia and Polyglottery (New York City, 2013). The discussion covered such topics as the definitions of a polyglot, the measurement of language knowledge, the phenomenon of switching languages in speech and the implementation of polyglots’ experience in language education systems. A summary of the discussion is provided, the key ideas of the participants are pointed out, and some personal observations on the matter are shared, including the difficulties confronted during the process of transcription.

<p>This dissertation looks at meeting talk as organisational action, asking how meetings partly constitute “organisation”. It considers how meeting members use the phrase “out there” in their work. I conducted observation research, attending the fortnightly staff meetings of an office-based organisation for six months, audio-recording, taking notes and transcribing tapes shortly afterwards. I watched conversations, and following the methodological principles of actor-network theory (ANT), tried to avoid making prior assumptions about how this action was ordered. The phrase "out there" was used by meeting members in each of the workplace meetings attended. I have analysed what members were attending to each time the phrase was used. In three chapters, conversation analysis (CA) is used to carefully examine three uses of the phrase. I use the involvement of the phrase in the meetings to consider members' attempts to make organisational actions and realities. Is the use of the phrase part of the procedures enabling actors able to build shared worlds? I argue that "out there" refers to places and situations that exist precisely in what is made of them in these particular settings. Further, I suggest that we need to ask just where the effects of this making occur. Such effects occur not ”out there” or elsewhere, but here. More specifically, the dissertation considers how meeting members come to be allowed to undertake, and do undertake, the action in the meetings of proposing future actions, and being able to propose future actions forcefully and normatively. I suggest that first-hand experience is a valuable resource for suggesting and defending what the organisation should do next. The intention of this dissertation is to contribute to studies of talk in action and research in workplaces that attempts to understand organisational members' world-building activities.</p>

This paper focuses on improving the accuracy of noise audio recordings. High-quality audio recording, extraction using the mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) method produces high accuracy. While the low-quality is because of noise, the accuracy is low. Improved accuracy by investigating the effect of bandwidth on the mel scale. The proposed improvement uses the mel scale separation methods into two frequency channels (MFCC dual-channel). For the comparison method using the mel scale bandwidth without separation (MFCC single-channel). Feature analysis using k-mean clustering. The data uses a noise variance of up to -16 dB. Testing on the MFCC single-channel method for -16 dB noise has an accuracy of 47.5%, while the MFCC dual-channel method has an accuracy better of 76.25%. The next test used adaptive noise-canceling (ANC) to reduce noise before extraction. The result is that the MFCC single-channel method has an accuracy of 82.5% and the MFCC dual-channel method has an accuracy better of 83.75%. High-quality audio recording testing for the MFCC single-channel method has an accuracy of 92.5% and the MFCC dual-channel method has an accuracy better of 97.5%. The test results show the effect of mel scale bandwidth to increase accuracy. The MFCC dual-channel method has higher accuracy.

This article analyzes the issues related to the admissibility of audio recordings in Lithuanian civil proceedings and arbitration. The study critically evaluates the statutory law, case law and legal doctrine related to the admissibility of audio recordings. The study reveals that the case law of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Lithuania on the admissibility of audio recordings has to be improved on the application of the criteria of admissibility of audio recordings and on the protection of privacy. Meanwhile in Lithuanian arbitration law, it is suggested to waive the arbitration court’s discretion to decide on the possible approaches to the admissibility of an illegally made audio recording and to follow the view that an illegally made audio recording is per se inadmissible.

<p>This study investigates in-service English teachers’ voices toward the use of authentic materials in teaching reading and the challenges in using the materials. A narrative inquiry study is employed in which the data were qualitatively collected through interview and documentation process. This study was conducted at one of the Private Junior High Schools in Bogor, Indonesia. An in-service English teacher was chosen as a participant who participated in the process of collecting data through structured interviews by audio recording. The result of this research shows that an in-service English teacher have positive perceptions toward the use of authentic material in teaching reading. Various positive reasons and challenges for the use of authentic materials in the classroom were revealed.</p>
