In this descriptive study, we aimed to identify factors related to emergency room nurses’ disaster triage ability. A total of 166 nurses who worked for emergency departments of general hospitals completed a structured questionnaire consisting of the Disaster Triage Ability Scale (DTAS), the Strategic Thinking Scale (STS), the Problem-Solving Inventory (PSI), and the Original Grit Scale (Grit-O). The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 25.0 by means of descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, the Scheffé post hoc test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Participants’ DTAS averaged 14.03 ± 4.28 (Range 0–20) and showed a statistically significant difference according to their experience of triage education (t = 2.26, p = 0.022) as a disaster triage-related attribute. There were significant correlations among DTAS and confidence in the PSI (r = 0.30, p < 0.001), the approach-avoidance style in the PSI (r = −0.28, p < 0.001), and futurism in the STS (r = 0.19, p = 0.019). The strongest predictor was confidence in the PSI; in addition, 14.1% of the DTAS was explained by confidence in the PSI, approach-avoidance in the PSI, and futurism in the STS. Emergency room nurses who received triage education showed a higher level of the DTAS and their DTAS could be explained by problem-solving skills and strategic thinking. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and implement triage education programs integrated with stress management to improve the approach-avoidance style to ensure better problem-solving skills and to utilize various training methods to enhance confidence to improve problem-solving skills and futurism as part of strategic thinking.

Abstract Background Psychiatric emergencies require timely intervention because of the risk of harm to individuals and society, including others. The aim of the present study was to test the content validity of a psychiatric triage algorithm developed for use in South Korea. Methods The initial algorithm was developed through systematic literature review. Its validity was then verified by 10 experts. Based on results of expert validity, the algorithm was modified and the final algorithm was developed. Results Its clinical validity was then verified by 37 emergency room nurses who had used triage. Four questions of expert validity results with a CVI of 0.8 or less were revised to reflect expert opinion. The usefulness, adequacy, and convenience of the final modified algorithm was 2.98 ~ 3.53. Conclusion After sufficiently validated by follow-up studies, it is expected that the use of psychiatric classification algorithms in emergency room nurses will not only improve the quality of care, but also can improve patient outcomes and experience.

Abstract: Since COVID-19 was first discovered in Wuhan, it has caused COVID-19 referral hospitals to be "overwhelmed" including in Indonesia. In patients with confirmed COVID-19 or in patients with suspected COVID-19, the Basic Life Support (BHD) does not need to be postponed. However, there are some principles that must be adapted to keep patients and caregivers safe. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge and insight of participants in general regarding emergency management during the COVID-19 pandemic. The method in implementing community service activities is divided into several stages, namely first conducting socialization, conducting webinars, followed by FGD. The result of this activity is that there is an increase in BHD knowledge among emergency room nurses before and after participating in the training. The provision of online BHD knowledge and training has proven to be effective in increasing the knowledge of emergency room nurses

This study examined the factors associated with triage competency among school nurses in South Korea. Using a convenience sampling method, 386 school nurses employed in elementary, middle, or high schools completed a cross-sectional survey that included a modified version of the Triage Competency Scale for emergency room nurses. Information regarding experience working in schools and hospitals, education level, school types, age, emergency nursing care certifications, school locations, and serious emergency experience at school was collected. Analyses were performed using SPSS version 25.0, independent t-tests, analyses of variance, Spearman’s correlation, and ordinal logistic regression. Triage competency was higher for school nurses who were employed in metropolitan regions (odds ratio [OR] = 1.63, p = 0.017) and had serious emergency experience (OR = 1.76, p = 0.008). As the participants’ experience at schools or hospitals increased by one year, their triage competency score increased by 2% (OR = 1.02, p = 0.037) and 14% (OR = 1.14, p < 0.001), respectively. These findings could be used to develop policies and educational programs that promote school nurses’ triage competency. Further, they suggest the importance of establishing an organizational support system to develop guidelines and a feedback system to improve school nurses’ triage competency.

Background: This study aimed to model the relationship between occupational accidents, work-family conflict, and quality of work-life in emergency room nurses. Materials and Methods: This correlational research uses path analysis. The study population consisted of all nurses working in the emergency rooms of hospitals in Tehran City, Iran, in 2020. Of them, 200 samples were selected by the available sampling method. To obtain the data, we used the occupational accidents questionnaire, the quality of work-life questionnaire, and the work-family conflict scale. SPSS v. 24 and Amos v. 24 software were used for data analysis. Results: The analysis of the findings showed that occupational accidents and work-family conflict have a negative and direct effect on the quality of work-life (P<0.01). Occupational accidents also have a positive and direct effect on work-family conflict (P<0.01). On the other hand, the mediating role of work-family conflict between occupational accidents and quality of work-life was confirmed (P<0.01). Conclusion: The relationship model of occupational accidents with quality of work-life mediated by work-family conflict has a good fit, and there is a relationship between family, job, and environmental stressors with the quality of work-life.

This study aimed to examine factors affecting radiation protection behaviors among emergency room nurses by assessing knowledge about radiation protection and attitude towards radiation protection, employing a cross-sectional design. Subjects were a convenience sample of 129 nurses working in the emergency rooms of three advanced general hospitals. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. There were significant relations between knowledge about radiation protection and attitude towards radiation protection (r = 0.34, p < 0.001), knowledge about radiation protection and radiation protection behaviors (r = 0.37, p < 0.001), and attitude towards radiation protection and radiation protection behaviors (r = 0.33, p < 0.001). The factors affecting radiation protection behaviors were radiation protection knowledge (β = 0.12, p = 0.045), attitude towards radiation protection (β = 0.17, p = 0.009), the experience of radiation protection education (β = 0.27, p < 0.001), and wearing of protective equipment (β = 0.29, p < 0.001). The governments, hospital administrators, and radiation protection agencies should strengthen their radiation defense environment to protect emergency room nurses from radiation. Research and development of radiation defense equipment and the medical examination of emergency room nurses should be carried out, radiation defense behavior protocols should be developed, radiation defense education opportunities should be provided, and the use of defense equipment should be encouraged.

The mental health of health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic period is a present issue that must be given more attention. It is because health workers are the spearhead of handling the COVID19 case, which is daily increasing. The purpose of the research to examine the mental health of IGD nurses at Royal Prima Hospital Medan by using variable demographic characteristics (age, gender, years of service), family environment, social environment, and work environment. This type of research is a quantitative study, with the research sample being all emergency room nurses at Royal Prima Hospital Medan. The data were processed using correlation analysis in SPSS. The results showed that the demographic characteristics, family environment, social environment, and work environment were positively correlated with mental health in IGD nurses at Royal Prima Medan Hospital. Suggestions for further research are to use a larger sample and be able to use other variables according to the theory of Cooper and Davidson

Emergency Room (IGD) as one of the first entry points for patients to the hospital, will indirectly provide an overview of hospital services as a whole. Data on emergency visits of patients at Bhayangkara Tebing Tinggi Hospital in the January - May 2020 period were 2,685 patients and experienced a significant decrease every month. The research objective was to analyze the factors that influence the performance of emergency room nurses at the Tebing Tinggi Bhayangkara General Hospital in 2020. The research design used a descriptive analytic method with a cross-sectional approach. The population in the study were all nurses who served in the IGD at the Bhayangkara Tebing Tinggi Hospital in 2020 totaling 32 people. The sample uses the otal population. Data analysis used univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis using logistic regression tests.The results of the study using logistic regression showed the sig. each variable, namely the variable ability (0.578), skills (0.011), motivation (0.129), reward (0.013), infrastructure (0.855) and the value of Exp (B) the largest = 26.633 in the variable reward. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant effect of skills and rewards on the performance of nurses in the IGD at the Bhayangkara Tebing Tinggi Hospital and the variables that have no significant effect are ability, motivation and infrastructure.
