The productivity of pond fish, in particular carp, largely depends on the intensity of use of aquatic bioresources. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of “Amiksyn” on the immunological parameters of carp fish, namely: the number of T- and B-lymphocytes, immunoglobulins, the level of circulating immune complexes, lysozyme, phagocytic activity and bactericidal activity of serum. 10 fish were selected for hematological and biochemical studies. The research was conducted in the aquarium of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources of Stepan Gzhytskyi NUVMB Lviv. Fish were kept in the pool for 21 days to adapt to the new conditions, and at the beginning of the series of experiments were placed in aquariums with a volume of 200 liters. Aeration and mechanical filtration of water were provided in the tanks. The temperature during the experiments fluctuated slightly and was 18 ± 1.5 °C. The main hydrochemical parameters corresponded to fish farming standards. In order to adjust the immune response, and thus prevent possible manifestations of fish damage by pathogens, we studied the possibility of using the immunostimulant “Amiksyn”, which was used for 5 – 10 – 15 – 20 days and then dosing 5 – 10 – 15 mg/kg body weight Pisces. The use of “Amiksyn” at a dose of 10 mg/kg of fish weight four times during the fifteen-day period with an interval of 5 days provided a decrease in the number of T-lymphocytes by 9.1 % and B-lymphocytes by 23.0 %; caused the activation of non-specific resistance indicators, namely lysozyme activity increased by 28.7 %, phagocytic activity of leukocytes increased by 14.0 % and bactericidal activity of serum increased by 19.0 %. Therefore, to adjust the immune system and stimulate the metabolic processes of fish in order to prevent the negative effects of various pathogens, the most optimal dose was 10 mg/kg of fish weight within 15 days of use.

Jambal roti is a fermented fish product, commonly found in some regions in Java Island, Indonesia, such as Pekalongan, Cilacap, Pangandaran, Rembang, and along the northern coast. The raw sea catfish (Arius thalassinus) were traditionally processed by salting (salt amounting to 30% of the fish weight) then sun-drying. This study examined the microbiological and chemical characteristics of jambal roti produced in the Rembang Regency. Samples were taken from artisanal jambal roti producers during the making process. The proximate and chemical (final product of jambal roti) test results showed that the aw (0.723) and salt contents (18.166%) of the samples met the SNI 2721:2009, but the water (48.534%), ash (18.022%), and dissolved protein contents (5.494%) were above their allowable levels. The microbial analysis revealed that despite the absence of Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. in the product, the total aerobic bacteria (APC) (6.6×102 CFU/g) and yeast and mold contamination (1.4×103 CFU/g) found in the samples were above the standards.

The emergence of tilapia lake virus (TiLV) has had a severely negative impact on global tilapia aquaculture. TiLV infection has been reported at different life stages of tilapia, with more emphasis on fry and fingerlings; however, the virulence and pathology of TiLV at different tilapia size remains unexplored. In this study, tilapias from a single spawning were raised to 5 g, 25 g, and 65 g, and subsequently challenged by the intraperitoneal injection and cohabitation of a virulent strain of TiLV. The cumulative mortality, viral load, and histopathology of the fish were determined until 22 days post-infection (dpi). The cumulative mortality of the 5 g, 25 g, and 65 g fish was 85% (±1.67), 55% (±2.89), and 51.67% (±7.49), respectively. At 14 dpi, the mean TiLV load in the liver of the 5 g fish was significantly higher than in the 25 g and 65 g fish. All the weight groups showed severe pathological changes in the liver, spleen, and intestine after TiLV infection, but no particular difference was otherwise noted during the study with the exception of higher pathological scores in the liver of the small fish at 14 dpi. Overall, this study indicated that small fish are more susceptible to TiLV infection than large fish. Although multiple factors, including environmental factors, farm management practices, strains of virus could contribute to different susceptibility of fish to viral infection, the present study provides the evidence to support that fish weight affects the mortality and clinical outcome during TiLV infection. More intensive measures such as strict biosecurity and disease surveillance during the susceptible weight should therefore be emphasized to reduce the impact of this virus.

Kissing gourami is an Indonesian local fish species that has the potential to be developed as a farmed fish. However, the current domestication stage of the fish still requires further information regarding its bio reproduction. The research on determining the bioreproductive characteristics of three generations of kissing gourami has been carried out at the Research Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture and Fisheries Extensions, Bogor. This research aimed to determine the gonad position, gonad maturity index, and fecundity between the kissing gourami generations. The results showed that the gonads were positioned vertically towards the backbone, curved ends towards the front and located behind the urogenital. The fecundity of produced eggs/gram body weight of fish did not differ between generations and ranged between 76 ± 13–83 ± 14 eggs. The percentages of fertilized eggs and hatched eggs between generations did not differ and ranged between 70.6 ± 16.05–92.9 ± 10.88% and 51.3 ± 16.64–74.3 ± 10.32%, respectively. The number of produced larvae was also not significantly different between generations where G-0 has the lowest number (38.7 ± 10.72 eggs/g fish weight), followed by G-1 (45.3 ± 5.20 eggs/g fish weight) and G-2 has the highest number of produced larvae (55.7 ± 7.75 eggs/g fish weight). The aquaculture domestication program does not affect the reproductive character of fish between generations. The diversity of reproductive characters between generations is still high. The formation of the next generation needs to be maintained, so that it can be used as a new cultured fish.

AbstractThe water level in the cultivation of eel (Anguilla bicolor bicolor) is an important study in order to provide the optimal water level for cultivation. Optimizing the water level will affect the substitution of respiration energy with energy to grow. In addition, the water level information is related to the efficiency of water use for eel production in the future. Information on water level for eel production is still very limited, so this research is necessary to do. A total of 120 eel elver (initial weight 13.66 ± 0.09 g) were collected from eel companies in Bogor City, Indonesia. Fish were reared in vertical aquaculture systems with a stocking density of 10 fish per container for 60 days. The artificial feed containing 55% protein given as much as 3–5% of the biomass. Absorption and water replacement were done 20% per day. The result of this research showed that fish weight increased with an average of 33.45 ± 0.33 g. Different water levels had an impact to KKb, SGOT, ALP, and He. There was erosion of the skin epidermis and necrosis of the gill filaments due to the adaptation process. Water quality was within the optimum range for all treatments and 1.5 cm water level is recommended for maintenance (SGOT, ALP and He values were closest to normal values).

The nutritional characteristics such as proximate composition, amino acids, and fatty acids properties of fish depend on the size of fish. Determination of the nutritional parameters of Thai pangus muscle depending on five different sizes, viz., 0.5 kg, 1.0 kg, 1.5 kg, 2.0 kg, and 2.5 kg showed that the moisture content was decreased whereas the protein content was increased with the increment of fish weight. The protein content was the highest 16.60% in 2.5 kg size fish and the lowest content 14.75% was in 0.5 kg size fish. The lipid content was found to increase significantly (P≤0.05) with the increment of fish weight. There were eight essential and nine non-essential amino acids available and the contents were found to increase with the increment of fish weight. The content of essential amino acids was the highest (14.43 g/100 g fish muscle) in 2.5 kg size fish while the lowest (7.79 g/100 g fish muscle) in 0.5 kg size fish. Total 13 fatty acids were detected in fish oil among which oleic acid content was the highest (44.55% to 47.10%) followed by palmitic acid (25.78% to 36.39%), however, the ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids contentwere very poor. The saturated fatty acids content were found to increase whereas the polyunsaturated fatty acids content were found to decrease with increasing the size of fish. So, the findings of this present study reveal that the muscles of Thai Pangus fish are considered as highly nutritive and healthy.
