The integral bump foil strip cannot optimize the performance for the compliant conical foil bearing (CFB) as the uneven distribution of structural stiffness. To maximize the bearing characteristics, this paper proposed different bump foil schemes. Firstly, the anisotropy of CFB was studied based on the nonlinear bump stiffness model, and the circumferentially separated foil structure was proposed. Moreover, an axially separated bump foil structure with the variable bump length was introduced to make the axial stiffness distribution more compliant with the gas pressure. In addition, the effect of foil thickness was also discussed. The results show that CFB with integral bump foil exhibits obvious anisotropy, and the suggested installation angle for largest load capacity and best dynamic stability are in the opposite position. Fortunately, a circumferential separated bump foil can improve this defect. The characteristics of CFB with axial separated foil structure can be improved significantly, especially for that with more strips and the variable bump half-length design. The suitable bump and top foil thickness should be set considering the improved supporting performance and proper flexibility. The results can give some guidelines for the design of CFB.

Several studies reported similar neural modulations between brain areas of the frontal cortex, such as the dorsolateral prefrontal (DLPFC) and the premotor dorsal (PMd) cortex, in tasks requiring encoding of the abstract rules for selecting the proper action. Here, we compared the DLPFC and PMd neuronal activity of monkeys trained in choosing the highest ranking image of pair (target item), selected from an arbitrarily rank-ordered set (A>B>C>D>E>F) in the context of a transitive inference task. Once acquired by trial-and-error, the ordinal relationship between pairs of adjacent images (i.e. A>B; B>C; C>D; D>E; E>F), monkeys were tested in inferring the ordinal relation between items of the list not paired during learning. During inferential decisions, we observed that the choice accuracy increased and the reaction time decreased as the rank difference between the compared items enhanced. This result is in line with the hypothesis that after learning, the monkeys built an abstract mental representation of the ranked items, where rank comparisons correspond to the item position comparison on this representation. In both brain areas, we observed higher neuronal activity when the target item appeared in a specific location on the screen, with respect to the opposite position and that this difference was particularly enhanced at lower degrees of difficulty. By comparing the time evolution of the activity of the two areas, we revealed that the neural encoding of target item spatial position occurred earlier in DLPFC than in PMd, while in PMd the spatial encoding duration was longer.

The Croatian protiv preposition is a rare preposition with a complementary genitive case government. Although lexicographical sources note the spatial and non-spatial meanings of this preposition, empirical studies only confirm the meanings from the abstract domain of adversativeness, i.e. expressing the opposite position, contradiction, disagreement with something, limiting, counteracting or protecting against something. The task that we set for ourselves in this work is to determine the resource of the Polish translation equivalents of the Croatian protiv preposition. The analysis will be carried out on a parallel corpus excerpted from contemporary Croatian literature written in 20th and 21st centuries and respective Polish translations. The work will use the method of translation equivalence, belonging to comparative linguistics methodology. The study will consist of two parts. The first part will determine the meanings of the protiv preposition present in the built corpus and the right and left side environment of this preposition will be examined. The second part will be dedicated to equivalence. A resource of Polish equivalents will be presented and their lexical, grammatical and semantic features will be determined. Similarities and differences in the expression of similar content in both languages will be indicated and an attempt will be made to determine the translator’s selection of factors for individual equivalents, e.g. in the form of limitations in the right and left side environment, shade of meaning or stylistic value. The statistical analysis will be an important element of the study, which in addition to the semantic characteristics will help determine the main Polish equivalent of the Croatian protiv preposition. The conducted study can be used in the lexicographic practice, didactics and translation.

This article aims to show the basic aspects and legal guidelines over the debate of Covid vaccine and certificate adding some relevant information from vaccine control agency and expert opinions. The reason of this approach steeps in the closed position of many citizens including public institutions, information media, social media, etc. in the world over the need to get vaccine and to marginalize people with opposite position. For that reason this manuscript proposes to make a modest and succinct exposition over the situation to understand both views. All it without being able to address the abundant legal, medical, etc... Information on this matter that would force to elaborate an article of equidistant dimensions to the present manuscript.

ABSTRACT Spectroscopic observations of AH Herculis during a deep quiescent state are put forward. We found the object in a rare long minima, allowing us to derive accurately the semi-amplitudes: $K_1 =121 \pm \, 4$ km s−1 and K2 = 152 ± 2 km s−1 and its mass functions MWsin 3i = 0.30 ± 0.01 M⊙ and MRsin 3i = 0.24 ± 0.02 M⊙, while its binary separation is given by asin i = 1.39 ± 0.02 R⊙. The orbital period Porb =  0.25812 ± 0.00032 d was found from a power spectrum analysis of the radial velocities of the secondary star. These values are consistent with those determined by Horne, Wade & Szkody. Our observations indicate that K5 is the most likely spectral type of the secondary. We discuss why we favour the assumption that the donor in AH Her is a slightly evolved star, in which case we find that the best solution for the inclination yields i = 48° ± 2°. None the less, should the donor be a ZAMS star, we obtain that the inclination is between i = 43° and i = 44°. We also present Doppler tomography of H α and H β, and found that the emission in both lines is concentrated in a large asymmetric region at low velocities, but at an opposite position to the secondary star, outside the tidal radius and therefore at an unstable position. We also analyse the H α and H β line profiles, which show a single broad peak and compare it with the previous quiescent state study that shows a double-peaked profile, providing evidence for its transient nature.

Based on interviews and survey data, this article examines the role of civil servants in the process of external evaluations. Traditionally the political–administrative system and the research sector have been seen as worlds apart, their differences hindering the use of evidence in policy, creating a need for knowledge brokering. However, there are perspectives taking the opposite position, recognizing the mutual influence of policy and research in the coproduction of knowledge. This study suggests that both perspectives are relevant and together could provide a better point of departure for understanding the production and use of evidence in policy.

The objective of this case report is to relate a malformation in a newborn male girolando breed bovine calf. The bovine presented craniofacial duplication and was sent to the Animal Diagnosis Center (CDA) at the Federal University of Rondônia (UNIR). The descriptive study of the main anatomical changes observed during the desiccation of the facial muscles and removal of the brain was performed. The anatomical parts were exposed on a board for photo documentation and description of the malformations. The diagnosis of incomplete diprosopia was made by observing the congenital lesions on the face and brain characterized through the craniofacial junction without total head separation; the animal presented triophthalmia, duplication of nasal and oral structures with lateral deviance of the right jaw side. The animal’s cerebellum was found in the opposite position and was united with the two brains through the cerebral peduncles in a caudal cranial orientation. In this case report, it was not possible to determine the malformation etiology, however, it emphasizes the importance of diprosopia in bovine and it suggests the need of further studies about the mechanism that produce cranial alterations.

We hear much about the “democratic ideal” as if it were unreachable within the walls of the organization. Of late, apologists have begun suggesting that there is no need to worry; democracy exists; it is just that it is often hidden from view right within the requisite hierarchical structure. Top managers are sharing their leadership roles with others in the organization. This provocation will take the opposite position that hierarchy and democratic leadership are predominantly incommensurate and that closer inspection would show that hierarchical conditions largely persist and that when democratic leadership occurs, it does so only with the conditional permission of those in control. The essay goes into detail regarding plural models of leadership, shows where they fall on the hierarchy–democracy continuum, and outlines how leaderful development might be able to prepare learners for real democratic experience.

This article is devoted to the study of musical text in the context of the Plato ontology. Our task is to show the process of cognitive comprehension of a musical text as an ontological and hermeneutic reflection. It is fundamentally important for the author to become acquainted with two basic philoso-phical positions, showing fundamentally opposite views on the musical ontology as a whole. To reveal the existence of a musical text at the ontological and hermeneutic levels, we need to develop the neces-sary tools to “subtract” the authentic meanings that underlie the creation of the creator of the text. In the context of the problem under study, we will get acquainted with the various ontological positions of philosophers such as Peter Kivy, Jerome Levinson and other thinkers. Observing, for example, the invisible controversy of Kiwi and Levinson, we can track two radically opposite approaches to the study of musical text. Developing the position of classical Platonism that musical compositions are discovered rather than created, Peter Kivy shows us musical works as discovered eternal types. The opposite position is that of Jerome Levinson, showing a musical composition as a soluble idea, which lies in the potentiality of the author. This approach criticizes the idea of combining musical creations with Platonic universals (Kivy), arguing, on the contrary, about the author’s onto-logical principle. Choosing one of the approaches to understanding the authentic intent of the author’s text, we need to establish the primary and secondary levels of reflection. Given the direct relationship between the author and the interpreter of the text, it is important for us to identify the ontological conditions for the emergence of the text as the primary level of reflective immersion. The level of hermeneutic exist-ence, which implies the conditions and variability of the musical variant of the text, we will attribute to second-order reflection. Thus, in the context of the Plato ontology, it is important for us to identify the uniqueness of the historical text and show the self-existence of its existence. In this regard, the author comes to the con-clusion that the moment of birth of the text is in intuitive experience as an eternal idea that does not depend on anything and does not go anywhere. This level is the most basic, since the fact of fixing the idea of the text in direct graphics is secondary, and having recognized the graphics, the transcriptor creates the interpretation-thing of the idea, just trying to establish similarity as the principle of com-munication. An attempt to establish this connection in the form of a musical interpretation is multivari-ate and coincides with the original idea only partially. As a result, at the hermeneutic level, scoring of musical notations enlivens the musical being of the text, but at the same time alienates us from under-standing its original idea.
