Currently the ophthalmologists meet with corneal-conjunctival xerosis more often in their daily practice. The objective of this research is identifying a new alternative method of treatment of the dry eye syndrome of different severity. In this work there will be a demonstration and the results of usage of BAA Delphanto® in treatment of different cases of the dry eye syndrome. The data collected from a dynamic research of groups of patients reveals the effectiveness of the comprehensive therapy with the use of BAA Delphanto®. Consequently, the research results demonstrate an improvement of the initial data from the biomicroscopy, OSDI index, Schirmer-1 test and the tear break up time. The statistically significant results were received reveal the effectiveness of the use of BAA Delphanto® with a significant improvement of the quality of life. It can be used widely by ophthalmologists for the treatment of corneal-conjunctival xerosis of different severity.

Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk menganalisis kandungan metabolit sekunder dan efektivitas antioksidan dari ektrak etanol bunga kasumba turate (Carthamus tinctorius L.), serta potensinya sebagai antihiperkolesterolemia. Bunga kasumba turate yang telah dikeringanginkan, dihaluskan dan dimaserasi dengan pelarut etanol 70%, lalu dievaporasi pelarutnya. Ekstrak etanol (EE) yang diperoleh dipartisi berturut-turut dengan pelarut n-heksana, etil asetat dan air, sehingga diperoleh ekstrak fraksi n-heksana (FH), etil asetat (FEA) dan air (FA). Selanjutnya, EE, FH, FEA, dan FA diuji kandungan metabolit sekundernya (metode Harborne) dan efektivitas antioksidannya (metode DPPH). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa EE dan FEA mengandung alkaloid, fenolik, flavonoid, saponin, tanin dan triterpenoid. FA mengandung fenolik, flavonoid, saponin, tanin dan triterpenoid. FH mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid dan triterpenoid. Efektivitas antioksidan bunga kasumba turate (dinyatakan dalam IC50) yang tertinggi pada FEA, diikuti FH, FA dan EE, dengan nilai IC50 53,59, 75,45, 77,43, dan 89.,9 µg/mL. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa bunga kasumba turate dapat menghambat oksidasi LDL dan menurunkan kadar kolesterol darah. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa ekstrak bunga kasumba turate memiliki efektivitas antioksidan yang kuat dan efek antihiperkolesterolemia.Kata kunci: Antihiperkolesterolemia; antioksidan; Carthamus tinctorius L.; etanolAntioxidant Effectiveness of Kasumba Turate Flower Extract (Carthamus tinctorius L.) and Its potential as an AntihypercholesterolemiaABSTRACTResearch has been carried out to analyze the secondary metabolite content and antioxidant effectiveness of the ethanol extract of kasumba turate flower (Carthamus tinctorius L.), as well as its potential as antihypercholesterolemia. Kasumba turate flowers that have been dried and mashed, macerated with 70% ethanol solvent, then evaporated the solvent. The ethanol extract (EE) obtained was partitioned successively with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water as solvents, so that the extracts of the n-hexane (FH), ethyl acetate (FEA) and water (FA) fractions were obtained. Furthermore, EE, FH, FEA, and FA were tested for their phytochemical content (Harbourne method) and antioxidant effectiveness (DPPH method). The results showed that EE and FEA contained alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and triterpenoids. FA contains phenolics, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and triterpenoids. FH contains alkaloids, flavonoids and triterpenoids. The antioxidant effectiveness of casumba turate flower (expressed in IC50) was highest in FEA, followed by FH, FA and EE, with IC50 values of 53,59, 75,45, 77,43, and 89,19 g/mL, respectively. The results of the literature review show that kasumba turate flowers can inhibit LDL oxidation and reduce blood cholesterol levels. This study concluded that kasumba turate flower extract has a strong antioxidant effectiveness and antihypercholesterolemic effect.Keywords: Antihypercholesterolemia; antioxidant; Carthamus tinctorius L.; ethanol

Abstract Objectives The objective of this study was to determine the protective effects of antioxidants against oxidative damage in PC12 cells when treated with beta-amyloid (BA), a common source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in older adult brains. Methods PC12 cells (2 × 105 cells/mL) were treated with secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG, 50 or 100 μM) or control antioxidants, superoxide dismutase (SOD, 100 U/mL) or catalase (100 U/mL), for 2 hours, then treated with 10 μM BA for 24 hours. After antioxidant and BA treatments, ROS and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured using assay kits. Differences in ROS and LDH between control (no antioxidant and BA treatments) and experimental groups were analyzed by Student's t-tests. Results Cells treated with BA without an antioxidant treatment showed a significant reduction in LDH (p < 0.01) when compared to the control, but did not differ in ROS. Cells treated with BA and catalase showed no significant difference in LDH. LDH and ROS were significantly reduced in BA and SOD treated cells (p < 0.01 and < 0.05, respectively) compared to the control. However, LDH or ROS in both SOD and catalase treated cells, either with or without BA treatment, was not different compared to the control. BA and SDG (50 μM or 100 μM) treated cells showed significant reductions in ROS, but no significant difference in LDH compared to the control. Conclusions An antioxidant, SDG, found in flaxseed shows promise for reducing oxidative stress in cells. ABSTRACTChronic exposure to UV radiation on the skin can cause many side effects on the skin such as premature aging, skin cancer and decreased ability of the immune response. Irreversible skin aging begins at the age of 20 years. Mature leaves (Clerodendron squamatumVahl) have flavonoids, which are antioxidant compounds. This study aims to prove that seswanua leaf gel preparations have good stability, meet the requirements of gel preparations and have good antioxidant effectiveness. This type of research is descriptive analytics. Extraction of sesewanua leaves was carried out using maceration with 96% ethanol solvents. Evaluation of gel preparations was carried out by conducting homogeneity, organoleptic, pH, dispersion and adhesion test. Gel stability test was carried out using the cycling test method. Testing the effectiveness of antioxidants using the method (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) with IC50 results of 123 mg / L for storage and 263 mg / L for post-storage. Penuaan kulit yang bersifat irreversible dimulai pada usia 20 tahun. Daun Sesewanua (Clerodendron squamatum Vahl) memiliki senyawa flavonoid yang bersifat sebagai  senyawa antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan sediaan gel daun sesewanua mempunyai stabilitas yang baik, memenuhi persyaratan sediaan gel dan mempunyai efektivitas antioksidan yang bagus.Jenis penelitian ini ialah Deskriptif Analitik. Ekstraksi daun sesewanua dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode maserasi danpelarut etanol 96% . Evaluasi sediaan gel dilakukan dengan melakuan uji homogenitas, organoleptis, pH, daya sebar dan daya lekat. Uji stabilitas gel dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode cycling test. Pengujian efektivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil (DPPH)dengan hasil IC50 sebesar 123 mg/L untuk sebelum penyimpanan dan 263 mg/L untuk sesudah penyimpanan.. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan sediaan gel dengan konsentrasi HPMC 3% mempunyai stabilitas yang baik, memenuhi persyaratan sediaan gel dan memiliki efektivitas antioksidan  Kata Kunci : Daun Sesewanua, Ekstraksi, Sediaan Gel, Antioksidan

ABSTRACT                Sesewanua leaves (Cleodendron squamatum Vahl.) contain alkaloids and flavonoids which are efficacious as antioxidants. This study aimed to fomulate, evaluate, and test the effectiveness of antioxidants in the form of peel-off mask of ethanol extract from the Sesewanua leaves. This study used descriptive-analytic method with the treatment of variations in concentrations of  PVA 12 % , 14% and 16 %, respectively. Physical evaluation of preparations included organoleptic observation, homogeneity test, pH test, scattering power test, drying time test, and cycling test, all tests were carried out before and after the cycling test. The results showed that all preparations met the requirements of physical evaluation before the cycling test while after the cycling test only preparations with 12% PVA concentrations met the requirement, whereas preparations with 14% and 16% of PVA did not met the requirement after the cycling test and after testing antioxidant effectiveness using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazil) method were obtained. The value of  IC50  before cycling test was 179.120 mg/L and after cycling test was 504.74mg/L. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Sesewanua leaves can be formulated into a peel-off mask with 12% PVA concentration which is physically stable and has moderate antioxidant effectiveness before the cycling test, while after cycling test the preparation of peel-off mask ethanol extract of Sesewanua leaves is less effective as an antioxidant. Keywords:  Sesewanua leaves (Cleodendron squamatum Vahl.), peel-off mask, antioxidantsABSTRAK               Daun Sesewanua (Cleodendron squamatum Vahl.) mengandung alkaloid dan flavonoid yang berkhasiat sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasi, mengevaluasi, serta menguji efektivitas antioksidan sediaan masker peel-off ekstrak etanol daun Sesewanua. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif-analitik dengan perlakuan variasi konsentrasi PVA 12%, 14% dan 16%. Evaluasi fisik sediaan meliputi pengamatan organoleptik, uji homogenitas, uji pH, uji daya sebar, uji waktu mengering dan uji cycling test semua pengujian dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah uji cycling test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua sediaan memenuhi persyaratan evaluasi fisik sebelum uji cycling test sedangkan setelah uji cycling test hanya sediaan dengan  konsentrasi PVA 12% yang memenuhi persyaratan sedangkan sediaan dengan konsentrasi PVA 14% dan 16% tidak memenuhi persyaratan setelah uji cycling test, dan setelah dilakukan uji efektivitas antioksidan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil) diperoleh nilai IC50 sebelum uji cycling test sebesar 179,120 mg/L dan sesudah cycling test sebesar 504,74 mg/L. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun Sesewanua dapat diformulasi menjadi sediaan masker peel-off dengan konsentrasi PVA 12% yang stabil secara fisik dan memiliki efektivitas antioksidan yang sedang sebelum uji cycling test sedangkan setelah cycling test sediaan masker peel-off ektrak etanol daun sesewanua kurang efektif sebagai antioksidan. Kata Kunci : Sesewanua (Cleodendron squamatum Vahl.), masker peel-off, Antioksidan.

The main objective of this work was to develop bio-based and biodegradable bilayer systems with antioxidant properties. The outer layer was based on a compression-molded poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV)-based material while antioxidant electrospun fibers based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) blends formed the inner active layer. In particular, PLA was blended with 25 wt% of PHB to increase the crystallinity of the fibers and reduce the fiber defects. Moreover, in order to increase the stretchability and to facilitate the electrospinning process of the fiber mats, 15 wt% of oligomeric lactic acid was added as a plasticizer. This system was further loaded with 1 wt% and 3 wt% of catechin, a natural flavonoid with antioxidant activity, to obtain antioxidant-active mats for active food packaging applications. The obtained bilayer systems showed effective catechin release capacity into a fatty food simulant. While the released catechin showed antioxidant effectiveness. Finally, bilayer films showed appropriate disintegration in compost conditions in around three months. Thus, showing their potential as bio-based and biodegradable active packaging for fatty food products.
