Geopolymer concrete is a valuable and alternative type of concrete that is free of traditional cement. Generally, geopolymer concretes require a source material, which is rich in silicon and aluminum. Furthermore, fly ash-based geopolymer concretes have been proven to have superior fire resistance, primarily due to their ceramic properties, and are inherently environmentally-friendly given their zero-cement content. This paper presents the effects on initial evaporation on the performance of fly ash-based geopolymer pastes after exposure to elevated temperatures of 400 °C and 800 °C. The fly ash (FA) samples used in the present study included: Gladstone and Gladstone/Callide. The results for sealed samples placed in the oven during curing were much more consistent than the samples that were not kept covered. In addition, Gladstone fly ash-based geopolymer samples that were sealed recorded an initial maximum compressive strength reading of ca. 75 MPa, while sealed Gladstone/Callide fly ash-based geopolymer samples, of the same mix design, only recorded an initial maximum compressive strength reading of ca. 50 MPa (both subjected to oven curing at 60 °C for 24 h). However, Gladstone/Callide fly ash-based geopolymer samples exhibited a significant strength gain, ca. 90 MPa, even after being subjected to 400 °C.

Det geologiske kortblad Møn omfatter Møn med de tilgrænsende øer Langø, Lindholm og Nyord samt mindre dele af Sjælland og Falster. Kortet består af dele af de topografiske kortblade 1511 I og 1512 II samt 1511 IV med randområder af tilgrænsende kortblade mod vest og nord. Møn opdeles i tre geomorfologiske områder: det stærkt kuperede Høje Møn mod øst, det småbakkede landskab omkring Stege Nor mod vest, og det flade marine forland omkring Nyord og Ulfshale. Høje Møn opbygges af opskudte skiver af skrivekridt og kvartære aflejringer, som det ses i Møns Klint. Skiverne er op til 80 m tykke, hvoraf skrivekridtet udgør ca. 50 m. Under hele Møn består prækvartæroverfladen af Maastrichtien skrivekridt i en dybde omkring kote –25 til –40 m. Mindre skiver af glacialtektonisk forstyrret skrivekridt optræder også omkring Stege Nor og langs sydkysten af det vestlige Møn ved Hvideklint. De ældste kvartære aflejringer er moræneler fra Saale-istiden og sand og ler fra Eem-mellemistiden. Derefter følger fluviale aflejringer og nedskylslag fra Tidlig Weichsel. Disse lag efterfølges af moræneler fra Ristinge Klint Till Formationen med over- og underliggende smeltevandsaflejringer fra Mellem Weichsel dannet under Ristinge Isfremstødet for ca. 55 000–50 000 år siden. Den næste enhed er Kraneled Formationen (ny formation), som efterfølges af moræneler tilhørende Klintholm Till Formationen (justeret formation) fra Klintholm Isfremstødet for 35 000–32 000 år siden. Formationen overlejres af mere end 10 m tykke enheder af gråt til olivengråt issøler med dropsten, smeltevandssand og lamineret fint sand samt diamikte aflejringer i Kobbelgård Formationen (ny formation). Denne formation blev aflejret i en issø, som dækkede store dele af Østersøen i en mildningsperiode for 32 000– 28 000 år siden. Denne enhed overlejres af eller er øverst sammenflettet med sand og grus tilhørende Stubberup Have Formationen (ny formation). Moræneler tilhørende den Midtdanske Till Formation blev aflejret under NØ-Isfremstødet for 23 000–20 000 år siden. Efter at NØ-Isen var smeltet tilbage fra østersøområdet, rykkede den Ungbaltiske Is frem fra den østlige del af Østersøen, hvorunder bl.a. Møns Klint og Hvideklint blev deformeret. En tilhørende strukturel enhed, Møns Klint Glacialdynamiske Kompleks, er defineret med fire sekvenser. Hele Hjelm Bugt dannede en glacial lobe, og nord herfor dannedes et randmorænestrøg. Radialt ud fra loben dannede smeltevandet store afløbskanaler fra gletsjerporte i den Ungbaltiske Is. Aflejring af sand og grus tilhørende Ny Borre Formationen (ny formation) skete i dette tidsrum. Under det Ungbaltiske Isfremstød blev Lolland Till Formationen aflejret som et relativt tyndt lag af moræneler. Ved slutningen af Weichsel-istiden for ca. 17 000 år siden smeltede den Ungbaltiske Is tilbage. Et residualt isdække i området nordøst for Møn sendte et genfremstød til det østlige Møn, som medførte en reorientering af skrivekridtskiverne i Møns Klint. I Sen Weichsel (17 000–11 700 år før nu) fandtes søbassiner på det sydlige Møn ved Hjelm og Tøvelde samt på Høje Møn, hvor en række ferskvandslag blev dannet, og aflejringen fortsatte et stykke ind i Holocæn. I Holocæn blev de tidligere afløbskanaler transgrederet under den atlantiske havstigning, hvorved fjorde skar sig ind fra nord og nordvest til midt på Møn. Herefter begyndte udbygningen af marine forlande, især mod nord i området Ulvshale og Nyord. De tidligere fjorde voksede til med planter, som omdannedes til tørveaflejringer. Den sidste sedimentationsfase skete langs kysterne, hvor strandvolde blev akkumuleret, og kystklitter af flyvesand blev dannet.

Komoditas perikanan budidaya yang banyak dikembangkan di Indonesia adalah udang vaname Litopennaeus vannamei karena udang vannamei memiliki prospek dan profit yang menjanjikan (Babu et al., 2014). Salah satu usaha untuk menjaga dan meningkatkan produksi udang vaname adalah memanfaatkan lahan budidaya yang ada, termasuk lahan di perairan tawar. Udang vaname merupakan salah satu udang yang memiliki toleransi yang cukup baik pada kisaran salinitas yang tinggi, yaitu antara 0,5-40 ‰ (Wyban  et al, 1992). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh fosfor (P) untuk pertumbuhan udang vannamei dalam media pemeliharaan dengan salinitas 0 ppt. Dengan dosis fosfor yang tepat, pertumbuhan udang vannamei yang dipelihara pada media bersalinitas 0 ppt dapat terjadi dengan maksimal. Metode yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan, yaitu penambahan fosfor melalui media dengan berbagai dosis yang berbeda; 0 ppm, 15 ppm, 30 ppm, dan 45 ppm. Penambahan mineral Ca 50 ppm dan P 45 ppm, memberikan pengaruh nyata pada tingkat pertumbuhan udang vaname, dengan nilai pertumbuhan panjang mutlak tertinggi 5,8 cm dan pertumbuhan bobot mutlak 1,07 gr terdapat pada P4 (Perlakuan Empat)

The spatial and temporal variability of parasite communities have received little attention when used as biological tags for identifying fish stocks. This study evaluated the potential spatial and temporal variability of the parasite communities affecting three marine fish species collected between 1993 and 2017. To avoid the potential effect of host age in parasite communities, individuals of similar ages were selected: 1123 Engraulis ringens (12–24 months old), 1904 Trachurus murphyi (24–36 months old), and 630 Merluccius gayi (36–48 months old). Most taxa show differences in the prevalence at the spatial and temporal scales, but the prevalence of some larval endoparasites remains constant at the temporal scale. At the spatial scale, an analysis of similarity (ANOSIM) showed differences in the parasite communities of three species; a canonical analysis of principal coordinates (CAP) showed low values of correct allocations (CA; ≈50%) and values of allocation due to chance (AdC) were lower than the CA. At the temporal scale, an ANOSIM showed differences between the three species. A CAP showed low values of CA (≈50–60%) and the AdC was always lower than CA. Samples at the spatial scale were well allocated to their localities or nearby localities, suggesting a spatial stability. Samples from different years were not well discriminated, suggesting temporal variability. Therefore, in studies regarding parasites as a tool for stock identification, temporal variability must be taken into account.

This research examined the changes of black garlic (BG) quality attributes when raw materials of different initial moisture contents (iMC) were used. Fresh garlic bulbs (cv. Thai) were shade-dried for eight weeks at a controlled condition at 29 °C and relative humidity (RH) of 55% to the desired iMC (ranging from ca. 50–70%). BG processing was at 75 °C, RH = 80% for ten days. After processing, physiological characteristics and chemical properties of garlic were determined. Results illustrated that fresh garlic with higher moisture content (ca. 70%) resulted in BG of a dark brown colour, sloppy texture, and lesser acidity (pH = 4.44), while samples with lower iMCs (<50%) gave products that were completely black, elastic in texture, and with higher acidity (pH = 3.79). The analysed bioactive compounds, as well as their antioxidative potentials, suggested that the longer the curing time, the higher the functional properties of the finished products, possessing a total phenolic, total flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity of 15.54 mg/kg dry matter sample, 1.53 mg/kg dry matter sample, and 95.39%, respectively. Principle component analysis (PCA) of active metabolites confirmed that sulfur, S-allyl-L-cysteine, and flavonoid were among the main phytochemicals found in the BG. In summary, higher quality BG can be achieved by using raw materials of lower iMC.

AbstractThe high cost and environmental impact of traditional microalgal harvesting methods limit commercialization of microalgal biomass. Fungal bioflocculation of microalgae is a promising low-cost, eco-friendly method but the range of fungal and microalgal species tested to date is narrow. Here, eight non-pathogenic, filamentous fungi were screened for their ability to self-pelletize and flocculate Euglena gracilis (ca.50 µm motile microalga) in suspension. Self-pelletization was tested under various rotational speeds, and species which formed pellets (Ø > 0.5 cm) were selected for harvesting tests. Filaments of each species were combined with E. gracilis at various ratios based on dry weight. Harvesting efficiency was determined by measuring the change in cell counts over time, and settling of the flocs was evaluated by batch settling tests. Three fungal species, Ganoderma lucidum, Pleurotus ostreatus, and Penicillium restrictum, were able to reliably flocculate and harvest 62–75% of the microalgae while leaving it unharmed. The results demonstrated that self-pelletization, harvesting, and settling were dependent on the fungal species. The fungi to algae ratio also had significant but contrasting effects on harvesting and settling. In balancing the needs to both harvest and settle the biomass, the optimal fungi to algae ratio was 1:2. The application of fungal filaments to microalgae in suspension produced readily settling flocs and was less time-consuming than other commonly used methods. This method is especially attractive for harvesting microalgal biomass for low-value products where speed, low cost, and cell integrity is vital.

AbstractModernization of urban buildings can decrease the availability of nesting sites in buildings, leading to sudden decreases in the density of avifauna. In this study, we investigated the use of nest boxes as a bird conservation measure after buildings were thermally modernized. In a 10 ha experimental area we mounted five types of nest boxes of different sizes and dimensions (a total of 132). Nest boxes were dedicated to species that lost access to their previous nesting sites. All species associated with the buildings significantly declined or disappeared. In the first year after the modernization, the House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) decreased by 66% compared with the period before the modernization, Eurasian Jackdaw (Corvus monedula) by 68%, Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris) by 70%, and Common Swift (Apus apus) by 100%. In the first two years after the modernization, the birds nested only in nest boxes. Five years of monitoring showed that using nest boxes as compensation for bird nesting sites lost during the renovation of buildings can cause a population to recover to ca. 50% of its original level. To optimize deployments of nest boxes, wildlife managers should consider target species’ preferences for the dimensions and placement of boxes and limit the time boxes are used if a species prefers nesting outside nest-boxes, but in buildings (e. g. the House Sparrow) and does not require additional support.

Background: The prevalence of cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is unknown.Aims and Methods: We sought to (a) determine the prevalence of CA in unselected patients ≥75 years undergoing autopsy, (b) characterize cardiological profiles of CA and non-CA patients by providing clinical-histological correlations, and (c) compare their cardiological profiles. After dedicated staining, the localization (interstitial or vascular) and the distribution (non-diffuse or diffuse) of amyloid deposition were analyzed. Cardiological data at last evaluation were retrospectively assessed for the presence of CA red-flags.Results: CA (50% light chains, 50% transthyretin) was found in 43% (n = 24/56) of the autopsied hearts. Atria were involved in 96% of cases. Amyloid localized both at the perivascular and interstitial levels (95.5 and 85%, respectively) with a slightly predominant non-diffuse distribution (58% of cases). Compared to the other patients, CA patients had a more frequent history of heart failure (HF) (79 vs. 47%, p = 0.014), advanced NYHA functional class (III-IV 25 vs. 6%, p = 0.047), atrial fibrillation (68 vs. 36%, p = 0.019), discrepancy between QRS voltage and left ventricular (LV) thickness (70 vs. 12%, p &lt; 0.001), thicker LV walls (15 vs. 11 mm, p &lt; 0.001), enlarged left atrium (49 vs. 42 mm, p = 0.019) and restrictive filling pattern (56 vs. 19%, p = 0.020). The presence of right ventricular amyloidosis seemed to identify hearts with a higher amyloid burden. Among the CA patients, &gt;30% had ≥3 echocardiographic red-flags of disease.Conclusion: CA can be found in 43% of autopsied hearts from patients ≥75 years old, especially in patients with HF, LV hypertrophy and atrial fibrillation.

AbstractA new method of preparation of aqueous electrolyte baths for electrochemical deposition of nickel targets for medical accelerators is presented. It starts with fast dissolution of metallic Ni powder in a HNO3-free solvent. Such obtained raw solution does not require additional treatment aimed to removal nitrates, such as the acid evaporation and Ni salt precipitation-dissolution. It is used directly for preparation of the nickel plating baths after dilution with water, setting up pH value and after possible addition of H3BO3. The pH of the baths ranges from alkaline to acidic. Deposition of 95% of ca. 50 mg of Ni dissolved in the bath takes ca. 3.5 h for the alkaline electrolyte while for the acidic solution it requires ca. 7 h. The Ni deposits obtained from the acidic bath are physically and chemically more stable and possess smoother and crack-free surfaces as compared to the coatings deposited from the alkaline bath. A method of estimation of concentration of H2O2 in the electrolytic bath is also proposed.

High-silica (&lt;70 wt% SiO2) magmas are usually believed to form via shallow crustal–level fractional crystallization of intermediate magmas. However, the broad applicability of this model is controversial, because the required crystal-melt separation processes have rarely been documented globally up to now. The ca. 50 Ma Nyemo composite pluton of the Gangdese batholith belt in southern Tibet, which comprises intrusive rocks with intermediate- to high-silica compositions (65–78 wt%), offers a unique opportunity for substantiating the coexistence of extracted melts and complementary silicic cumulates in one of Earth’s most complete transcrustal silicic magmatic systems. The Nyemo pluton intrusive rocks exhibit similar zircon Hf isotopic compositional ranges (mean εHf(t) = +5.7 to +8.3), suggesting a common, non-radiogenic magma source with crustal assimilation in the deep crust. Yet, these rocks have distinct geochemical characteristics. High-silica miarolitic and rapakivi granites are strongly depleted in Ba, Sr, and Eu, and their zircon trace elements show extremely low Eu/Eu* and Dy/Yb. In contrast, monzogranite is relatively enriched in Ba and Sr with minor Eu anomalies, and the zircon trace elements are characterized by relatively high Eu/Eu* and Dy/Yb. Therefore, we propose that the high-silica granites represent highly fractionated melt extracted from a mush reservoir at unusually low storage pressure (~99–119 MPa), and that the monzogranite constitutes the complementary residual silicic cumulates.
