Hemodialysis is one of the vital management options for end-stage renal disease (ERDS) patients. Adequate hemodialysis can make a good quality of patient life. Hemodialysis patient commonly has experienced intradialytic complications, and it can be life-threatening. ESRD patients who are not compliant with fluid and dietary restrictions raised Intradialytic weight gain (IDWG), and blood pressure leads to intradialytic complications. This study aimed to determine factors associated with intradialytic complications among undergoing hemodialytic patients in Blitar. The data analysis used Multiple linear regression analysis to ascertain the possible factors that influence intradialytic complications. The sample was 55 hemodialysis patients with intradialytic complications. Based on this study, the Spearman Rank correlation test results, the factor that correlated with intradialytic complications was patient compliance with a Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.016 with a correlation coefficient value of -0.26. The correlation coefficient in the results above was negative, namely -0.263 so that the correlation between the two variables was not unidirectional. The higher compliance showed, the lower the intradialytic complications. The odds ratio (OR) value between adherence and the occurrence of intradialytic complications was 3,229. That value meant that patients with kidney failure who do not comply with the diet will have a 3-fold risk of intradialytic complications compared to patients with renal failure who comply. This result emphasizes the need for constant motivation and education at frequent intervals to ensure better adherence.

People above 65 years of age would amount to 10.7% of total population of India by 2021. India has acquired the label of ‘an ageing nation’ with 7.7% of its population being more than 60 years old. Geriatric patients are exposed to potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) thus strategies to improve quality of life and safety of prescribing is needed. One such explicit criteria tool is ‘Screening Tool of Older person’s Potentially inappropriate Prescriptions’ (STOPP) criteria. For older individuals, frailty plays a decisive role. Frailty assessment is useful for identification of risk stratifications to assist in clinical decision makings. Hence, this study is aimed to assess the percentage of PIM using STOPP criteria and correlation between PIMS and Frailty Index (FI) in elderly patients in our setting. An observational study was done in 60 patients in department of medicine at tertiary care teaching hospital. Demographic details, diagnosis and current medications were recorded in Microsoft excel 2016. PIMs based on STOPP criteria version 2 and FI suggested by Searle et al. was calculated and analyzed. Spearman rank correlation test was used to check the correlation between FI and PIM. Out of 60 prescriptions, 21 prescriptions with PIM were found. Most common drugs prescribed as PIM were Aspirin, calcium, ceftriaxone, multivitamin B complex and furosemide. FI was analyzed by using 34 variables. Value of FI was between 0.03 to 0.17. Spearman Rank correlation test showed direct low degree of significant correlation between FI and PIM with correlation (r) value of 0.1602 (P value=0.02). 35% of prescriptions were having at least one PIM in our study and we found that there was direct association between FI and PIM which will help us to reduce potential medication errors, drug interactions and adverse reactions.

Maize is a staple crop in South Africa and is mainly grown under rain-fed conditions. Rain-fed agricultural production is heavily reliant on rainfall during the planting season. Information on rainy season characteristics is of utmost importance as it guides farmers in preparing for the upcoming season. The study investigated rainy season characteristics for the Luvuvhu River Catchment with reference to rain-fed maize production. Historical daily rainfall data were obtained from 12 weather stations for the period 1923–2015. Instant+ statistical software was used to compute onset, false onset, cessation and length of the rainy season. The trends in rainy season characteristics were analysed using the Spearman rank correlation test. Onset of the rainy season can be expected from the first week of October to the third week of January, while cessation can be expected from the first week of February to the first week of May. The length of the rainy season ranged from 67 to 203 days. Seasonal rainfall ranged from 182 to 1 535 mm. Phafuri, Sigonde, Phunda Maria and Folovhodwe had a higher probability of false onset. No significant changes in rainy season characteristics at a 5% level of significance were observed. There was a strong correlation between onset and length of the rainy season. Based on rainfall patterns only, Phafuri, Sigonde and Folovhodwe might not be suitable for maize production under the current climate. The most favourable sites for maize production within the catchment are Entabeni, Levubu, Lwamondo, Thathe, Tshiombo and Vreemedeling. The findings of this study have implications on agricultural activities and food security as maize is a staple crop in the Luvuvhu River catchment area. Information on rainy season characteristics may therefore help in strengthening food security.

Background: Although numerous motivations for vaping have been identified in adolescents, no study to date has examined a possible link between vaping and attitudes/behaviors that are associated with eating disorders in adolescent females. Examining this question in adolescent females is especially relevant given the higher prevalence of eating disorders in adolescent girls and women compared to adolescent boys and men. Methods: We recruited 299 girls (between 13 to 17 years old) via Facebook advertisement to complete a REDCap survey, which included the Electronic Cigarette Dependence Index (ECDI), Minnesota Eating Behavior Survey (MEBS), and demographic questions. Data were analyzed using nonparametric Spearman rank correlation test in R.Results: Electronic Cigarette Dependence Index (ECDI) scores were correlated with weight preoccupation (WP), binge eating (BE) and compensatory behavior (CB), but not body dissatisfaction (BD). The following were the results of Spearman correlation tests: (1) WP: rho = 0.13, p = 0.02; (2) BD: rho = 0.06, p = 0.28; (3) BE: rho = 0.15, p = 0.0095; (4) CB: rho = 0.021, p = 0.00027.Conclusion: The present study adds to the current literature examining motivations for e-cigarette use in adolescent girls. As eating disorders and e-cigarette dependence are significant public health concerns, our results highlight the need for intervention development.

Indonesia is the most generous country in the world. This is evident from the World Giving Index created by the Charities Aid Foundation which has placed Indonesia in the number one position in the world in 2018. There is an increase compared to the previous year, where Indonesia was in second place after Myanmar. The main indicators are the level of donating money, helping foreigners, and participating in volunteer activities. On the other hand, the World Bank in 2018 placed Indonesia in the sixteenth position based on GDP Current USD and the eighth position based on GDP PPP Current USD. This proves that income is not the main thing that encourages someone to give alms. However, it is still uncertain whether income and level of alms correlate with each other. Jones and Posnett (1991) revealed that an increase in the behavior of giving alms is not in line with an increase in household income. On the other hand, there is a significant positive relationship between income and a person's level of alms (Arshad, 2016). The two types of research mentioned (Jones and Posnett, 1991; Arshad, 2016) conducted testing at the micro level. Therefore, this research will concentrate more on the macro level. Pharoah and Tanner (1997) explain that people who consider religion important in their lives tend to give more. This study uses a quantitative approach to test the correlation between the World Giving Index and GDP using the Spearman rank correlation test. The Spearman rank correlation test measures the correlation between two random variables based on ranking order. The author has found that there is no correlation between high income and the desire to give alms. This research can be used as a reference for the Indonesian government to reduce inequality and poverty in the country by realizing the potential of alms in Indonesia.
