Abstract Life review therapy, used as part of a comprehensive therapy plan for increasing the quality of life of the elderly, helps them to resolve their past conflicts, and accept their present conditions. This study tested the effectiveness of a structured life review therapy protocol on the life satisfaction of institutionalized older adults. A quasi-experimental design was adopted in this study. Fifty older adults aged 65 or above were recruited from nursing homes in southern Taiwan through convenience sampling. The participants in the intervention group carried out life review therapy for eight weeks in addition to their daily activities. The participants in the comparison group maintained their daily activities. Both groups were evaluated using a life-satisfaction scale including two aspects of life worries and situations in weeks 1 and 8. Data were collected at baseline (T1), immediately post-intervention (T2). Generalized estimating equations were used to examine the effect of the intervention on the outcomes. The overall life satisfaction increased significantly over time for the intervention group compared to the comparison group from week 1 to week 8. The life review therapy programs showed promising effects in improving the life satisfaction of older adults living in nursing homes.

The results showed that the level of independence before life review therapy with mild dependence was 11 respondents (68.8%) and after being given life review therapy with mild dependence was 10 (62.5%). Based on the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test statistical test, it was obtained p 0.35 with a significance value of α <0.05. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there is an influence of life review therapy with the independence of the elderly at Panti Wredha St. Yoseph Kediri.

Early-life traumatic experiences have lasting implications for late-life socio-emotional development, contributing to a greater prevalence of poor mental health in very old age. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of early-life and recent traumatic life experiences on loneliness among centenarians. A total of 154 centenarians participated in a semistructured interview. The time of traumatic occurrence and type of trauma experienced influence loneliness in centenarians. Experiencing a natural disaster 70 or more years ago significantly predicted loneliness. Terror management theory proposes that coming to terms with one’s mortality represents an underlying source of anxiety that can influence human behavior to create both immediate and future defenses. Evidence from this study can be used to improve how aging service practitioners integrate reminiscence or life-review therapy or counseling within clinical or educational settings.

Patients with chronic renal failure suffer higher rates of depression because of psychological stress due to physical and social changes. Efforts to reduce depression level are needed. Cognitive therapy and life review therapy are believed to be effective in reducing depression. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of life review therapy alone and in combination with cognitive therapy on depression in patients with chronic renal failure. This study employed a quasi-experiment with a comparison group design. Fifty-six respondents were selected using a consecutive sampling, which thirty-six were assigned in the experiment and comparison group. Depression was measured using Beck Depression Inventory. Dependent and Independent t-test were used for data analyses. The results revealed that the combination of life review and cognitive therapy had a significant effect (p<.05) in reducing depression compared with the life review therapy alone. The average of depression score decreased in the experiment group from 27.04 (4.71) to 22.29 (4.24). But there was no significant change in the average of depression score in the comparison group from 26.54(4.18) to 26.71 (3.70). This therapy can be used as a complementary medicine to treat patients with chronic renal failure, specifically for those with depression, and it serves as a recommendation for nursing intervention in hemodialysis units.

The purpose of this study is to determine the self-efficacy improvement of post-stroke patients when provided with life review therapy. This study was quasi-experimental. A purposive sampling technique was used to collect the data, with a sample of 60 respondents (30 controls and 30 interventions). Data was collected using a stroke self-efficacy questionnaire. The statistical tests used were Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney. The patient's self-efficacy in the intervention group showed a change in category in the post-test result (before the intervention it was mostly in the moderate category, after the intervention it went  into the high category) with statistical test results p=0.00. The control group remained mostly in the moderate category on both pre-test and post-test results with statistical test results p=0.002. There was a comparison of the effectiveness of applying life review therapy between the two groups (p=0.000). The results of this study indicate that the administration of life review therapy can improve the self-efficacy of patients after a stroke.</span></span></p>
