AbstractAnalysis of multiple secondary outcomes in a clinical trial leads to an increased probability of at least one false significant result among all secondary outcomes studied. In this paper, we question the notion that that if no multiplicity adjustment has been applied to multiple secondary outcome analyses in a clinical trial, then they must necessarily be regarded as exploratory. Instead, we argue that if individual secondary outcome results are interpreted carefully and precisely, there is no need to downgrade our interpretation to exploratory. This is because the probability of a false significant result for each comparison, the per-comparison wise error rate, does not increase with multiple testing. Strong effects on secondary outcomes should always be taken seriously and must not be dismissed purely on the basis of multiplicity concerns.

AbstractRecent experiments on van der Waals antiferromagnets have shown that measuring the temperature (T) and magnetic field (H) dependence of the conductance allows their magnetic phase diagram to be mapped. Similarly, experiments on ferromagnetic CrBr3 barriers enabled the Curie temperature to be determined at H = 0, but a precise interpretation of the magnetoconductance data at H ≠ 0 is conceptually more complex, because at finite H there is no well-defined phase boundary. Here we perform systematic transport measurements on CrBr3 barriers and show that the tunneling magnetoconductance depends on H and T exclusively through the magnetization M(H, T) over the entire temperature range investigated. The phenomenon is reproduced by the spin-dependent Fowler–Nordheim model for tunneling, and is a direct manifestation of the spin splitting of the CrBr3 conduction band. Our analysis unveils a new approach to probe quantitatively different properties of atomically thin ferromagnetic insulators related to their magnetization by performing simple conductance measurements.

Health promotion is a complex, ambiguous concept and set of practices. While many have linked it, primarily, to a revolution in health education, its roots go much deeper into the history of public health. It had its contemporary beginnings in the throes of the backlash against bureaucratic and professional dominance exemplified by the new social movements of the 1970s and 1980s. At its heart, health promotion is centred on the values and principles of equity, participation, and empowerment. These concepts are embedded in health promotion’s founding document, the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. However, exactly how these values are articulated is often ambiguous. In this chapter, the authors contend that health promoters must intensify their reflection on these core values and principles; particularly in the light of the tendency to slip back into a comfortable paternalism, which reinforces existing power imbalances. We are specifically concerned with the precise interpretation of health equity in health promotion.

Vascular variations of the bifurcation of the abdominal aorta (BAA) are rare, and they are usually discovered incidentally. We report a unique clinically and surgically significant case of variations of the abdominal aorta as related to the location and type of bifurcation. A high-positioned bifurcation of the abdominal aorta upon a horseshoe kidney at the level of upper L2 vertebral body was detected during contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography scan. Due to the halted ascent in horseshoe kidney, abdominal vascular anomalies are common: usually, multiple renal arteries arise from the distal aorta or iliac arteries; this is important when these patients undergo any procedure, particularly abdominal angiogram. The awareness of the variations of the abdominal aorta is of great importance during surgery and interventional radiological procedures to reduce complications during abdominal and spinal interventions, as well as for radiologists for precise interpretation of angiograms.

In the article the results of studying a problem of corporeal in a work of contemporary American writer David Galef, a professor of English at Montclair State University (New Jersey), are presented. Since Galef is little known in Ukraine, a short review of his life and works is given. On a basis of theoretical and literary critical works, devoted to a problem of corporeal in fiction, a representation of a body and corporeal is analyzed in a novel Flesh (1995). The key images and metaphors are defined. The important image is an overweight female body – Max’s object of desire. A story is narrated by his friend Don Shapiro, a professor of literature in “Ole Miss”. For a more precise interpretation, the functions of paratextual elements of original and translated texts are also studied. A novel is specified with its autobiographical character. According to a list of necessary features, this work is classified as an academic novel – a satirical comedy about university life with the elements of parody and erotic. In Galef’s novel there are many naturalistic and even pornographic descriptions. Satirically and ironically depicting an academic life, Galef creates a small copy of a contemporary world, in which people are very concentrated on matters of body and appearance, but not a soul and moral values.

AbstractThe purpose of this study is three fold; first, it attempts to show to what extent Fielding’s writings unfold the basic characteristics of the eighteenth century lines of thinking, foremost of which is the importance of context for the determination of meaning. Second, it attempts to show Fielding’s philosophy of human nature which, according to him, is a mixture of man’s selfishness, greediness, honesty and charity, all of which are characteristics of the ‘characters’ nature. Third, the present study sheds some light on Fielding’s technique in writing. The importance of introducing ironic techniques is to stimulate the reader’s mental imagination to understand opposite meanings and in consequence adopt a proper evaluation of the character’s behaviour. Fielding discusses through irony some important concepts such as chastity, reason and gentility, yet no direct clue is given to the readers to give a precise interpretation about them. It is also through irony that the interpretation of these concepts are hindered by perplexing assumptions as connotations of meaning make it difficult for the readers to give any judgment or adopt any evaluation. The study shows that Fielding’s technique in ‘Tom Jones’ is incorporated within a third omniscience narrative, which gives the narrator the chance to preside over his creation and commenting on certain attitudes and actions. It concludes that the mark of shame bestowed by earlier critics on Fielding as intrusive narrator is eliminated on the grounds that his presence within the text is directed for teaching purposes.

Multiple exponence is the multiple marking of the same feature or category within a single word. Distributed exponence is the occurrence of morphological structure such that providing a precise interpretation of a category can only be determined after considering more than one morphological formative. I propose the term verbose exponence to capture the common ground between these phenomena, i.e. all situations involving multiple morphological formatives sensitive to some common information. From this definition, a typology based on informational overlap emerges with types of verbose exponence corresponding to types of set interactions. The typology incorporates known related phenomena, such as overlapping exponence, while providing a sophisticated framework for describing previously unnamed phenomena. This typology is naturally cast in set-theoretic terms and formal definitions are provided for all assumptions and points in the typology. Such an approach provides precise articulations of the typological space but also of morphological redundancy, a property often associated with multiple exponence.

BACKGROUND A standard and comprehensive classification system is needed to maintain appropriate Caesarean section (CS) rates like Robson Ten Group Classification System. The present study was conducted to analyse Caesarean section rate and its distribution according to Robson’s classification. METHODS A descriptive study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Hari Nagar, New Delhi, from August 2018 to May 2019 on pregnant women of more than 28 weeks of gestation admitted for delivery. RESULTS Out of 8099 deliveries, 2924 required Caesarean section. The overall Caesarean section rate was 36.11 %, 1616 (55.27 %) were primary Caesarean section and 1308 (44.73 %) were repeat Caesarean section. Preterm delivery by Caesarean section was in 7.49 %. Majority of Caesarean section were in 37- 40 weeks of gestation (79.42 %). Out of 2924 cases 90.62 %, 8.21 % and 1.17 % were cephalic presentation, breech and other presentations respectively. 32 Caesarean section cases were twin pregnancy, 20.83 % was induced whereas 23.91 % was in spontaneous labour. Previous Caesarean section (44.74 %) was the commonest cause followed by foetal distress (16.82 %). Commonest cause for repeat Caesarean section was foetal distress (25.76 %). Major contributor to overall Caesarean section rate was Robson’s group 5 (38.72 %) followed by group 2 and group 1 i.e 21.64 % and 11.79 % respectively. Least contributor was group 8 (1.09 %). CONCLUSIONS Robson’s classification can help to identify broad categories of women to be targeted to decrease Caesarean section rates. Caesarean section rate can be reduced by decreasing primary Caesarean section, offering trial of labour (TOLAC), strict induction protocols implementation and precise interpretation of foetal heart rate tracings. Power transformers are considered important and expensive items in electrical power networks. In this regard, the early discovery of potential faults in transformers considering datasets collected from diverse sensors can guarantee the continuous operation of electrical systems. Indeed, the discontinuity of these transformers is expensive and can lead to excessive economic losses for the power utilities. Dissolved gas analysis (DGA), as well as partial discharge (PD) tests considering different intelligent sensors for the measurement process, are used as diagnostic techniques for detecting the oil insulation level. This paper includes two parts; the first part is about the integration among the diagnosis results of recognized dissolved gas analysis techniques, in this part, the proposed techniques are classified into four techniques. The integration between the different DGA techniques not only improves the oil fault condition monitoring but also overcomes the individual weakness, and this positive feature is proved by using 532 samples from the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). The second part overview the experimental setup for (66/11.86 kV–40 MVA) power transformer which exists in the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), the first section in this part analyzes the dissolved gases concentricity for many samples, and the second section illustrates the measurement of PD particularly in this case study. The results demonstrate that precise interpretation of oil transformers can be provided to system operators, thanks to the combination of the most appropriate techniques.

Protein analysis can be used to efficiently detect the early stages of various diseases. However, conventional protein detection platforms require expensive or complex equipment, which has been a major obstacle to their widespread application. In addition, uncertain signals from non-specific adhesion interfere with the precise interpretation of the results. To overcome these problems, the development of a technique that can detect the proteins in a simple method is needed. In this study, a platform composed of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) was fabricated through a simple imprinting method for protein detection. The corrugated surface naturally formed by the nanoparticle assemblies simultaneously increases the efficiency of adhesion and binding with analytes and reduces undesired interactions. After forming the GNP micropatterns, post-functionalization with both cationic and neutral ligands was performed on the surface to manipulate their electrostatic interaction with proteins. Upon protein binding, the change in the electrical values of the micropatterns was recorded by using a resistance meter. The resistance of the positively charged micropatterns was found to increase due to the electrostatic interaction with proteins, while no significant change in resistance was observed for the neutral micropatterns after immersion in a protein solution. Additionally, the selective adsorption of fluorescent proteins onto the micropatterns was captured using confocal microscopy. These simply imprinted GNP micropatterns are sensitive platforms that can detect various analytes by measuring the electrical resistance with portable equipment.
