Artificial Insemination Agency (AIA) Lembang  is one of frozen semen producer in Indonesia. AIA Lembang as the first received mandate from Government of Indonesia to produce frozen semen of beef cattle and dairy cattle in order to fulfill the of Artificial Insemination (AI) in Indonesia hopefully that Indonesia doesn’t always depend on imported frozen semen. The purposes of these research are (1) to identify and analysis external and internal factors that influence marketing of frozen semen of beef cattle from AIA Lembang, (2) to compile and formulate marketing strategy of frozen semen of beef cattle regarding product, price, promotion and distribution. In this research, identifying internal and external factors that influence marketing of frozen semen of beef cattle were done at AIA Lembang. Based on internal factors (strengths and weakness) and owned by AIA Lembang and external factors (opportunities and threats) facing by AIA Lembang, marketing strategy of frozen semen of beef cattle were formulated by using IFE and EFE matrixs. IFE score for AIA Lembang is 2,944 and EFE score is 2,316. Total score in EFE matrix is describing and identifying that company is in stable position in responding to  external situation. Total score for IFE matrix is 2,944, shows that the strength owned by AIA Lembang can over come it weakness  fairly enough. Total score EFE matrix is 2,316, shows that AIA Lembang good enough in responding to opportunity and minimize threat. The combination of IFE and EFE scoring in IE matrix shows that AIA Lembang position is in quadrant V namely stability and growth cell. It means that AIA Lembang is stable condition. The good strategies for this region are market penetration and  product development. Using SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats) produce 7 alternative strategy formula. Based on calculation in QSP matrix, the most interesting strategy produced is increase socialization and supervision to farmers on  maintainance, feeding and reproduction management as well as animal health management.

AbstractThe objective was to evaluate different oestrous synchronization schemes in beef cattle under range conditions. In experiment 1, 202 heifers averaging 26 months of age were assigned randomly to three treatments: (a) GnRH-PG. (no. = 44) day 0 (D0): injection of GnRH; D7: injection of PGF2α; D0 to D25 oestrous detection (OD) and artificial insemination (AI); (b) OD-PG. (no. = 45) D0 to D4; OD + AI; D5: injection of PGF2α; D5 to D25 OD + AI; and (c)Ovsynch. (no. = 113) D0: injection of GnRH; D7: injection of PGF2α; D9: injection of GnRH and 16 h later AI at fixed time. In experiment 2, 318 non-suckling cows were assigned randomly to three treatments: (a) GnRH-PG. (no. = 106) D0: injection of GnRH; D7: injection of PGF2α; D0 to D25 OD + AI; (b) GnRH-MAP-PG. (no. = 106) D0: injection of a GnRH analogue and insertion of an intravaginal sponge impregnated with 250 mg of medroxyprogesterone acetate; D7: injection of PGF2α and sponge withdrawal; D0 to D25 OD + AI; (c) controls. (no. = 106) OD and AI. The experimental period lasted 25 days and, with exception of the Ovsynch treatment, oestrous detection was carried out twice a day (a.m./p.m.) and inseminations performed 12 h later. The pregnancy rates assessed by ultrasonography 30 days after AI were: experiment 1: (a) 30·0%; (b) 28·6% and (c) 62·3% (P < 0·05); experiment 2: (a) 60·2%; (b) 57·8% and (c) 45·5% (P < 0·05). It is concluded that in heifers and non-suckling cows, oestrous synchronization treatments result in higher pregnancy rates. In non-suckling cows, the addition of a progestagen did not improve the response.

This study evaluated the use of cooled semen in a fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) program compared with frozen–thawed semen to improve pregnancy rates in beef cattle. Ejaculates of three bulls were collected and divided into two treatments: (1) frozen–thawed semen and (2) cooled semen. Egg-yolk extender without glycerol was used for the cooled semen treatment. Straws (25 × 106 spermatozoa) were submitted to cooling for preservation at 5°C for 24 h, after which FTAI was performed. Nelore cows (n = 838) submitted to FTAI were randomly inseminated using frozen–thawed semen or cooled semen. There was a 20% increase in the pregnancy per AI (P AI–1) using cooled semen compared with frozen–thawed semen (59.9 ± 4.7 vs 49.4 ± 5.0%; P < 0.005). There was no difference in P AI–1 among the bulls (P = 0.40). The frozen–thawed semen had fewer functional spermatozoa than did the cooled semen when evaluated by sperm motility (61.7 vs 81.0%), slow thermoresistance test (41.7 vs 66.7%) and hypoosmotic swelling test (38.3 vs 53.7%; P < 0.05). The percentage of sperm abnormalities did not differ between the freeze–thawing and cooling processes (18.6 vs 22.1%; P > 0.05). Because there was less damage to spermatozoa and improvement in P AI–1, the use of cooled semen instead of frozen–thawed semen is an interesting approach to increase reproductive efficiency in cattle submitted to a FTAI protocol.

Abstrak Penelitian mengenai Evaluasi Tingkat Keberhasilan Sapi Potong Betina di Kecamatan Selaawi Kabupaten Garut telah dilaksanakan pada tanggal 1 Juli sampai dengan tanggal 31 Juli 2015.Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat keberhasilan inseminasi buatan yang meliputi service per conception (S/C), conception rate (CR) dan Calving Rate (C/R) pada sapi potong di Kecamatan Selaawi Kabupaten Garut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan teknik studi kasus. Peubah yang diamati terdiri dari service per conception (S/C), conception rate (CR) dan Calving Rate (C/R). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa rataan service per conception (S/C) adalah sebesar 1,4, Conception Rate (CR) sebesar 71%, Calving Rate (C/R) 83%. Dengan demikian tingkat keberhasilan inseminasi buatan pada sapi potong betina di Kecamatan Selaawi sudah baik. The study aims to determine the success rate of artificial insemination which includes service per conception (S/C), conception rate (CR) and Calving Rate (C/R) in beef cattle in the district of Garut Selaawi. The method used is descriptive method with a case study. Variables observed consisted of service per conception (S/C), conception rate (CR) and Calving Rate (C/R). The results showed that the average services per conception (S/C) is at 1.4, Conception Rate (CR) of 71 % , Calving Rate ( C / R ) 83 %. Abstract This study compared the semen quality traits between Etawah grade (EGB) and Senduro bucks (SB) raised in Singosari National Artificial Insemination Center, Indonesia. A total of 96 ejaculated semen were collected from three EGB and three SB with an average age of three years. The ejaculates were evaluated for semen volume (SV), spermatozoa concentration (SC), total spermatozoa (TS), spermatozoa motility (SM), post-thawing spermatozoa motility (PTSM), the recovery rate of spermatozoa motility (RRSM), and frozen semen production (FSP). Data of SV, SM, PTSM, and RRSM were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test. While the data of SC, TS, and FSP were analyzed using an independent t-test. The results showed that SV, SM, PTSM, and RRSM were not significantly differed (P>0.05) between breeds. Whereas, SC, TS, and FSP of EGB were significantly higher (P<0.05) than SB. Therefore, it can be concluded that Etawah grade bucks can produce higher total spermatozoa and as a result higher frozen semen production for artificial insemination as compared to Senduro bucks.

The use of liquid semen for artificial insemination program of Etawah crossbreed goat (PE) is an alternative to replace frozen semen which is constrained by limited and expensive facilities. Production of liquid semen is faster than frozen semen, but the viability of liquid semen which preserved with a standard extender such as tris egg yolk is very short. The purpose of this study was to determine the viability of PE goat semen in egg yolk tris substituted with energy sources such as glucose, galactose, and mannose and to determine the most efficient energy source for semen preservation. This research was conducted from August to September 2018 at the Artificial Insemination Center in Lembang, West Java. This study was designed in a randomized block design (RBD) consist of three experimental groups divided into five groups. Fresh semen of PE goats were preserved using extender which energy source has been modified. Results showed that using glucose in PE goat semen extender produced the best motility among other groups (64.29 ± 9.2%). The highest viability was found in extender with fructose substitution (86.76 ± 2.3%). The longest viability of liquid semen was found in the extender with glucose substitution. It lasted for six days.

ABSTRAK. Penelitian dilaksanakan di salah satu daerah sentra peternakan sapi potong, yaitu Kecamatan Pauh, Kota Padang, Sumatera Barat, yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pendekatan penyuluhan dalam diseminasi inovasi Inseminasi Buatan (IB) pada peternak sapi potong dan metode penyuluhan dalam diseminasi inovasi Inseminasi Buatan (IB) pada peternak sapi potong. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan metode survei melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumen data. Populasi adalah peternak sapi potong yang sudah mengadopsi inovasi Inseminasi Buatan (IB), Sampel ditetapkan sebanyak 30 peternak dengan teknik Quota Sampling. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif yang dihitung dengan menggunakan skala Likert. Hasil penelitian adalah penyuluh sudah menerapkan pendekatan persuasif, pendekatan pervasion dan pendekatan compulsion dengan baik, sedangkan pendekatan coersion tidak diterapkan dalam diseminasi inovasi IB. Metode kunjungan rumah / usaha tani dan metode demonstrasi sudah diterapkan dengan baik, sedangkan metode kampanye tidak diterapkan oleh penyuluh dalam diseminasi inovasi IB pada peternak sapi potong di Kota Padang.  (The application of extension approaches and methods in disseminating artificial insemination (AI) innovation to beef cattle farmers at Pauh sub-district in Padang) ABSTRACT. A survey was carried out at Pauh sub-district, Padang to understand extension approach and method in disseminating artificial insemination (AI) innovation to beef cattle farmers. A survey method approach was used through observation, interviews and data document. Primary data were collected from 30 farmers using quota sampling technique. Data analysis was performed descriptively quantitative which was calculated using a Likert scale. The results showed that the extension workers have applied a convincing approach in both persuasive and compulsion types. However they did not use coercion in conveying AI innovation. Farm visit as well as demonstration have been implemented well by extension workers, while the campaign method is not applied in disseminating IB innovations to beef cattle breeders in the city of Padang.
