Many projects fail due to lack of product development to meet customer needs, leading to a waste of organizational resources and non systematic creation of products. Understanding user behavior and the effective management are key elements in the competitive knowledge-based economy. One of the outlets for knowledge-based economy is e-learning, facilitating education using information technology (IT) infrastructure, which plays an important role in today’s virtual world breaking distance and time obstacles. The purpose of this study is to probe e-learning users’ satisfaction attributes having noticeable impacts on enhancing instruction paradigm. Therefore, using two concepts of asynchronous learning and KANO model, the authors conduct a survey on user satisfaction in e-learning educational centers in Iran via interviews. Five satisfaction factors are pedagogical regulation, user characteristics, user interface, ICT infrastructures, group interactivity, and content. A questionnaire is proposed based on KANO concept and samples are collected. The statistical analyses are worked out on questionnaires applying Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software package. The results show that group interaction and user interface have high satisfaction level while content and infrastructures are the effective factors of dissatisfaction.

Abstract Background An efficient registration system for all these types of Taiwan medical institutions will enable outpatients to register online and inform them of the best time to go to the hospital and when their turn for medical treatment is. Hence, understanding the outpatients’/users’ actual needs is important for hospital managers to design a user-friendly registration system. Purpose This study, based on means-end chain (MEC) theory and the Kano model, aims to: 1) understand user preferences toward using a hospital online registration system by constructing the Kano–MEC hierarchical value map, and 2) deduce and formulate effective system planning and promotion strategies. Methodology/approach Mixed methods research was employed to collect data. A total of 16 hospital registration websites were examined and 34 in-depth interviews were conducted. All the interview transcripts were analyzed, and 16 attribute, 13 consequence, and 4 value variables were obtained for a final questionnaire design. A total of 376 valid samples were collected from a questionnaire survey to construct a Kano–MEC hierarchical value map. Results The Kano–MEC hierarchical value map depicts hospital online registration users’ innermost thoughts and cognitive structure with regard to their attribute/consequence/value preferences and their attribute performance, as categorized by Kano’s quality classifications. Conclusions The Kano–MEC map showed that “right-clicking the registration by department tab,” “modifying or canceling one’s appointment,” “downloading doctor’s schedule,” “doctor introduction,” “right-clicking the registration by doctor’s name,” and “instant messaging” are classified as Kano’s one-dimensional attributes that can improve users’ satisfaction and reduce their dissatisfaction by increasing quality fulfillment. Practice Implications Evidently, managers should focus on “right-clicking the registration by department tab,” “modifying or canceling one’s appointment,” “downloading doctor’s schedule,” “doctor introduction,” “right-clicking the registration by doctor’s name,” and “instant messaging” to formulate their system planning for enhancing the functions of their online registration system and increasing user satisfaction.

Although fog computing-based logistic supply chain management (Fog computing-based LSCM) is an emerging technology that proved a high impact on services and products, little research has focused on fog computing-based LSCM. Drawing on the Kano model and organization's theory this paper investigates the effect of fog computing-based LSCM on organizational agility. And the role of user satisfaction as mediator between fog computing-based LSCM and organizational agility. A quantitative approach was used, a questionnaire was designed for data collection, Cronbach's Alpha test was performed on a pilot study to examine the internal consistency of questionnaire items. Fog computing-based LSCM was studied based on Supply chain awareness, Connectivity and Logistics, Integration Process, Seamless Supply Chain, Integration of Processes. Data was collected from a random sample of 550 employees of Al-Hassan industrial city‎ in Jordan. Building on the proposed model, Researchers show that fog computing-based LSCM has a positive impact on organizational agility, fog computing-based LSCM has a positive impact on user satisfaction and finally user satisfaction mediates the relationship between fog computing-based LSCM and organizational agility. Implications for the model are discussed.

Eco-cities have witnessed rapid growth in these years worldwide. As the Eco-cities entering operation stage gradually, more and more researchers have found that users (who are living or working in the Eco-cities) satisfaction is one of the most important factors to determine the success or failure of Eco-cities. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the user demands to attract more citizens willing to live or work in the Eco-cities, which will make the development of Eco-cities more sustainable and solid. The recent researches on user demands investigation and analysis in the Eco-cities mainly focused on understanding the user need itself, yet lack of research on the relationship between the user demand and user satisfaction. This paper initially introduced the Kano model analysis method to the research field of user demands in Eco-city, to explore the relationship between the user demand and user satisfaction. After proposing user demands library in Eco-city (including Land use, Ecological environment, Green building, Energy utilization, etc.), the user demands classification and importance analysis methods of Eco-city were proposed based on Kano model. The questionnaire survey for users of two Eco-cities in China as case study was conducted, consisted of user demand items questionnaire based on the Kano model and a questionnaire on the importance of the user demand items. By utilizing the integration of quantitative analysis methods based on the Kano model and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, the final ranking of user demands importance was obtained. Comparing with the existing literatures in terms of user demands research for Eco-city, the user demands analysis method based on Kano model of this paper, is able to reveal the influence degree of user satisfaction towards the facilities and services provided in the Eco-city. The user demands analysis method can be used for other researchers worldwide to investigate and quantitively analyze user demands according to their local development situation and preference of Eco-city. The user demands analysis results obtained through this method, can benefit different stages of Eco-city.

Public–private partnerships (PPP) represent an alternative model of health management focused on improving the quality of health services, particularly in emerging countries. To date, a systematic method to improve the perceived quality of health services by healthcare users in Peru has not been established. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of health services in two PPP hospitals in Peru using the Kano model. A prospective cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out through a health service satisfaction survey using the Kano model methodology, measuring six categories of attributes. A total of 250 users of the health services were surveyed in the two PPP hospitals, located in Lima and Callao, using non-probability convenience sampling. Of the 31 attributes evaluated by the patients, 27 (81%) were classified as having a one-dimensional-type attribute, 3 (10%) were reported as mandatory, and 1 (3%) was considered as inverse. These results suggest that the presence of most of the attributes evaluated was relevant to maintaining the level of user satisfaction and that the absence of these attributes generated dissatisfaction in the users. The results showed that the users’ evaluation of health services was multidimensional—namely, their evaluation was focused not only on the interaction space between the patient and medical personnel but also addressed other interaction services.

AbstractThis article introduces readers to a new perspective on meeting library user needs. The author employs Kano theory to examine library user demands in Chinese law libraries and how law libraries in China have tried to meet user needs on three different levels. The Kano model was first introduced by Professor Noriaki Kano of Tokyo Rika University. The model was based on the assumption that customer needs are constantly changing and the question becomes how to meet library users’ evolving demands. The article summarizes demands of Chinese law library patrons on three levels: basic needs, performance, and excitement demands. Currently, most Chinese academic law libraries meet the basic needs of library users, but they need to further enhance user satisfaction and promote the law libraries’ status as a legal information center instead of merely a place to collect and house books.
