Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy have side effects that alter feeding and absorption of nutrients, compromising the nutritional status, causing discontinuation of treatment. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of chemotherapy on nutritional status of cancer patients. The methodologies consisted of non-standardizedquestionnaire, assessment of body mass index (BMI) and search of information on the patient's record. For data distribution analysis was used Kolmogorov Smirnov, correlation analysis was applied to Spearman's test with 5% significance level. The types of cancer that showed greater weight loss were laryngeal tumors, stomach, leukemia, intestine, lung and breast, respectively. Side effects that were associated with changes in nutritional status were change in appetite, dysphasia and enteritis. The conclusion is that weight loss is a frequent change in these patients, contributing to a poor prognosis and decreased quality of life

There were no significant correlations in this study in the incidence of leukopenia and thrombocytopenia.ABSTRACTObjectives: To observe correlation of nutritional status using Nutritional Risk Index with the side effects of adjunctive haematological chemotherapy.Materials and Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort study observing whether or not hematologic side effects occurred during chemotherapy based on medical records of postoperative ovarian cancer patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy.Results: Sixty-eight subjects with age range of 31-50 years (44.1%) multipara (68.8%), and advanced stage (52.1%) were observed. An increase was found in the diagnosis of malnutrition between the IMT method and NRI, which was 18.7% compared to 43.7%. A significant correlation was found between preoperative malnutrition and the incidence of anaemia after adjuvant chemotherapy for ovarian cancer patients (p=0.002). Whereas, in the event of leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, there were no significant correlations with p=0.675 and p=0.415, respectively.Conclusion: There was an increase in malnutrition rate with the use of NRI compared with BMI and there was a significant correlation between malnutrition and side effects of anaemia in patients with ovarian cancer who underwent surgery and continued with adjuvant chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy causes various side effects that can affect the patient's physical or non-physical condition. Patients' perceptions or ratings of these side effects vary. This study aimed to identify cancer patients' perceptions of the side effects of chemotherapy they are undergoing. The descriptive study was conducted on 84 samples, namely cancer patients aged 20 years who had undergone chemotherapy at least once before. Data collection using a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out descriptively with frequency distribution. The results showed that the perception of the physical side effects of chemotherapy that was considered very disturbing by the patient (severe symptoms) was nausea (59.5%), feeling of weakness (36.9%), hair loss (35.7%), vomiting. (29.8%), loss of appetite (28.6%). %), weight loss (27.4%), insomnia and skin discoloration (19% each), headache (16.7%) and fever (15.5%). When the perception of non-physical side effects was fear of death, affecting work/household duties and feeling fear (15.5% each), feeling anxious about my life, and the presence of family members I have to take care (14.3% each). The most disturbing side effects of chemotherapy are physical problems. The health service is expected to increase interventions to minimize the side effects of chemotherapy.

Introduction. Malnutrition and weight loss in cancer patients is a common problem that affects the prognosis of the disease. In the case of CRC, malnutrition rates range between 30 and 60%. Objectives. Description of the preoperative nutritional status of patients diagnosed with colorectal neoplasia who will undergo surgery. Materials and Methods. A prospective observational study is performed. Results. Of 234 patients studied, we observed that 139 (59%) had some degree of nutritional risk. Of all of them, 44.9% (N = 47) had 1-2 points according to MUST and 25% (N = 27) had more than 2 points. No differences were found when studying nutritional risk according to the location of the neoplasm. It was observed that 2.15% of the patients were underweight, 51% overweight, and 23% obese. 19.4% of patients lost less than 5 kg in the 3–6 months prior to diagnosis, 20.7% lost between 5 and 10 kg, and 2.1% lost more than 10 kg. In asymptomatic patients, the weight loss was lower than in symptomatic patients, loss <5 kg, 8.2% vs. 22.8%, and loss 5–10 kg, 16.2% vs. 29.3%, with a value of p = 0.016 . 5% (N = 7) of the patients had hypoalbuminemia record. 16.5% (N = 23) had some degree of prealbumin deficiency and 20.9% (N = 29) of hypoproteinemia. Symptomatic patients had more frequent analytical alterations, 1-2 altered parameters in 48.8% (N = 20) of asymptomatic vs. 61.2% (N = 22) in the symptomatic, p = 0.049 .

Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of IND02 (standardized Cinnamon bark extract) supplementation for the prevention of side effects of cancer chemotherapy in female patients with breast cancer. Methods: The study was conducted using double-blind, placebo-controlled design in 34 female breast cancer patients during the first 4 consecutive 21-day cycles of the standard chemotherapy regimen. The active treatment (IND02 capsules, 400 mg, one capsule, and thrice a day) or matching placebo was orally administrated in randomized (1:1 ratio) patients. The efficacy outcome measures were reduction in chemotherapy-induced weight loss, alopecia (hair fall), and other side effects. The safety outcome measures were hematology, ECG, vital signs, adverse event monitoring, and laboratory safety measurements. Results: The patients on the treatment with IND02 had shown significant protection from chemotherapy-induced severe weight loss (cachexia) and alopecia (reduced hair density and % hairs in the anagen phase, and increased % hairs in telogen phase) which was seen in the placebo group. IND02 treatment was found safe and well-tolerated during the study. Conclusion: Concomitant use of IND02 in breast cancer patients during breast cancer chemotherapy showed a clinical promise regarding efficacy and safety in preventing chemotherapy-induced weight loss and alopecia.

Fatigue and nutritional status in patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapyBackground: Breast cancer is one type of cancer and is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Cancer patients who receive chemotherapy are at risk of impaired nutritional status due to the disease and its treatment. Chemotherapy treatment can have side effects on the gastrointestinal system such as nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, anorexia, changes in taste. These side effects can cause the patient's nutritional intake to decrease. Cancer and its treatment can cause fatigue complaints.Purpose: to identify the relationship between fatigue and nutritional status in patients with breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapyMethods: The design of this study was quantitative using a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. This research was conducted at Dr.H. Abdul Moeloek Hospital of Lampung Province with 42 respondents.Results: Spearman correlation test results found that nutritional status variables have a significant relationship with fatigue (p value = 0.031) with moderate correlation strength (r = 0.471).Conclusion: The nursing intervention on the side effects of chemotherapy treatment which has a positive effect on nutritional conditions in an effort to overcome nutritional disorders and complaints of fatigue in cancer patients.Keywords: Breast Cancer; Chemotherapy; Fatigue; Nutritional StatusPendahuluan: Kanker payudara merupakan salah satu jenis kanker dan menjadi salah satu penyebab kematian di dunia. Pasien kanker yang menerima kemoterapi memiliki resiko gangguan status nutrisi akibat penyakit dan pengobatannya. Pengobatan kemoterapi dapat memberikan efek samping terhadap sistem ganstrointestinal seperti mual, muntah, stomatitis, anoreksia, perubahan rasa. Efek samping tersebut dapat menyebabkan asupan nutrisi pasien dapat mengalami penurunan. Kanker dan pengobatannya dapat menyebabkan keluhan fatigue.Tujuan: Mengetahui adanya hubungan antara status nutrisi terhadap fatigue pada pasien kanker payudara yang menjalani kemoterapi.Metode: Desain penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional . Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah pasien dengan kanker payudara yang menjalani kemoterapi. Penelitian ini dilakukan di RSUD Dr.H. Abdul Moeloek Provinsi Lampung dengan 42 responden.Hasil: Pada uji korelasi spearman didapatkan bahwa variabel status nutrisi mempunyai hubungan yang bermakna dengan fatigue ( p value = 0,031) dengan kekuatan korelasi sedang (r = 0,471).Simpulan: Kesimpulan diperlukan intervensi keperawatan terhadap efek samping pengobatan kemoterapi yang berdapak terhadap kondisi nutrisi dalam upaya mengatasigangguan nutrisi dan keluhan fatigue pada pasien kanker

Abstract Background The prevalence of malnutrition amongst pancreatic cancer patients is widely reported. This is due to reduced nutritional intake, increased energy expenditure and increased nutrient losses secondary to malabsorption. A Whipple's procedure or pancreaticoduodenectomy is the only potentially curable intervention for pancreatic cancer patients. Malnutrition is associated with increased peri and post-operative complications including delayed wound healing, longer hospital admission and higher mortality rate. Dietetic prehabilitation is a proactive intervention to assess patients’ nutritional status in preparation for elective surgery and, through early dietetic intervention, has the potential to improve perioperative outcomes. This pilot study reviewed the severity of nutritional risk in both the pre and post-operative stages to understand the need for dietetic prehabilitation in this patient group. Methods All patients referred were nutritionally assessed as part of a dietetic cancer prehabilitation pathway, which includes pre-surgical nutritional assessment within one week of referral and early post discharge nutritional assessment. Nutritional assessment was carried out using the PG-SGA short form and patients were triaged as requiring either a universal, targeted or specialist dietetic intervention dependent on severity of nutritional risk. Patients who scored &lt;4 were triaged as universal, and were low nutritional risk. Patients who scored 5-9 were triaged as targeted and were medium nutritional risk, and patients who scored &gt;9 were triaged as specialist, and were high nutritional risk. Results 35 patients were referred for dietetic prehabilitation assessment. 71% of patients were triaged as requiring either a targeted or specialist prehabilitiation intervention. BMI ranged from 15.7kg/m² to 35.9kg/m² and median weight loss was 10.0%. 23 patients received early post surgical nutritional assessment, within 12 days of discharge from hospital. All 23 patients required targeted or specialist dietetic intervention. 22 patients reported post-operative weight loss, with a median weight loss of 7.5%. There was no correlation between pre-surgical and post-surgical nutritional risk. Conclusions Patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy are at high nutritional risk in both the pre and post-operative periods. Patients without evidence of malnutrition in the pre-operative stage remain at high risk of malnutrition and the associated complications in the post operative stage. A prehabilitation programme can identify patients at nutritional risk and institute interventions to optimise perioperative nutritional status.  Findings from this review will form the basis of a study examining the effects of a prehabilitation programme on outcomes following pancreaticoduodenectomy.
