AbstractObjectiveOn April 27, 2011, the state of Alabama encountered a horrific day of tornados that left a trail of damage throughout the state. The city of Tuscaloosa was devastated by an EF-4 that resulted in many victims and casualties. Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa had a massive inflow of victims with both mild and major injuries. When disasters such as this occur, nurses must respond with efficiency and effectiveness to help as many victims as possible. However, little is known about the psychological effects of disasters on nurses and how these impact nurses both personally and professionally. Because resilience can directly impact how a nurse responds to a situation, this article aimed to examine the resilience levels of nurses working during the disaster.MethodsThis study was part of a larger study examining the needs of nurses both before and after disasters. Ten nurses were interviewed and completed a 10-item survey on resilience, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). The full range of scores on this scale is from 0 to 40, with higher scores reflecting greater resilience.ResultsIn this survey of 10 nurses, the scores ranged from 33 to 40, with a mean score of 36.7.ConclusionsThe nurses who were interviewed and completed the survey possessed a high level of resilience. More research should be done on the causes of increased resilience in nurses after disasters. (Disaster Med Public Health Preparedness. 2015;9:601–604)

This paper examines how a local community has tried to legalise its possession of land in the outskirts of the city of Medan, Indonesia. In the absence of accessible legal pathways and in the face of state and gang violence, the community has resorted to an imaginative mimicry of legal land access procedures. This paper argues that law-making does not exclusively originate from the state, but also from society, and as such the community has effectively created legal facts. Data were collected through interviews and long-term contact with the community.

This research is based on the many negative impacts that occur as a result of the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic, especially related to learning activities and student development. If not handled, it can be bad for students as national assets. This study aims to describe the resilience of high-school students in the city of Padang in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. This study uses a descriptive analytical quantitative approach. The research subjects were 499 high-school students as respondents. Research data were collected using resilience instruments, then analyzed using the frequency distribution formula and percentage. The results of the study revealed that 35.87% of students had a high level of resilience, 1.8% in the very high category, but 62.12% of students had a low level of resilience and 0.2% in the very low category. Overall, the resilience condition of high-school students in the city of Padang is on average in the low category. Most students are in a state of worrying about the Covid-19 problem, and students are less able to develop the positive attitude needed in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic situation. However, students have confidence that they can face and overcome problems related to this pandemic. Thus, the role of Guidance and Counseling teachers is needed to help optimize abilities and improve students' skills in developing positive attitudes in dealing with negative impacts and problems as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It especially is related to the ability to learn at home, and social attitudes, such as empathizing and caring about problems that occur in their environment.

Natural environments, compared to urban environments, usually lead to reduced stress and positive body appreciation. We assumed that walks through nature and urban environments affect self- and other-perceived stress and attractiveness levels. Therefore, we collected questionnaire data and took photographs of male participants’ faces before and after they took walks. In a second step, female participants rated the photographs. As expected, participants felt more restored and attractive, and less stressed after they walked in nature compared to an urban environment. A significant interaction of environment (nature, urban) and time (pre, post) indicated that the men were rated by the women as being more stressed after the urban walk. Other-rated attractiveness levels, however, were similar for both walks and time points. In sum, we showed that the rather stressful experience of a short-term urban walk mirrors in the face of men and is detectable by women.

The article is devoted to the problems of doctor-patient relationships in the context of a new type of coronavirus pandemic. The study was conducted using a questionnaire survey of 34 patients of the infectious diseases hospital, organized on the basis of the city hospital. According to the data obtained, all patients were satisfied with the medical care provided. Respondents noted a high level of care of doctors about their health. The survey also showed a high level of implementation of the patient’s rights to autonomy. Patients noted the difficult working conditions of medical workers. They consider the awarding of state awards to doctors to be justified. In addition, respondents consider the amount of additional payments to medical workers for their work to be insufficient. In conclusion, the author notes the formation of a predominantly cooperative model of relationships between medical professionals and patients.

Christian adaptation of the defences of the Alcazaba of Almeria during the sixteenth centuryAfter the capitulation of the nasrid city of Almería (1489), the new Castilian administration was able to verify the state of ruin of its defences due to the earthquake of 1487, ordering the rapid construction of a castle on the highest point of the battered hispano-muslim Alcazaba. Between 1490 and 1502 the castle was built, incorporating in its design the most effective systems of the time to repel an attack with gunpowder. The typological references of this military installation correspond to the School of Valladolid; with a long tradition in the construction of castles. In parallel with the completion of these works, the Catholic Monarchs ordered in 1501 to armor the defence of the coasts of the Kingdom of Granada, articulating and extending the medieval system of watchtowers scattered along the coast, to counteract the fragility of the annexed territories, the mestizaje of its people, and the proximity of Africa. Thus concluded the works in the Castle, the works were centred in the repair of the walls of the city, action that will extend to the fences of the Alcazaba (1526). Towards 1547, attacks by turkish and berber pirates followed one another on the Almeria coast in the face of the defencelessness of the population. These incursions led to concern about the proper conservation of military installations. As a consequence of this, the old Alcazaba was adapted to the distant war offered by the use of gunpowder. The first interventions were designed by Luis de Machuca, architect of the Palace of Carlos V in the Alhambra. This accommodation included the construction of the bastions of the Campana (1550) and the repair of the doors of Justice and the Guard (1565), completing the program due to the proximity of the War with the Moriscos, with the construction of the bastions of the San Matías and Espolón (1568).

Hygienic behavior in Apis mellifera L. africanized hives in the Backlands of Paraiba

Abstract: Beekeeping is one of the few agricultural activities that meets the three requirements of sustainability: economic, social and ecological. Therefore, provides income for the beekeeper, occupies family labor or hired and contributes to the preservation of native flora. Sanity may affect the development of beekeeping because Apis mellifera like any other living organism is susceptible to diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and other parasites and metabolic, nutritional and hormonal disorders, and several poisoning. Thus, because of the need for studies concerning the apiculture health, this study focuses on hygienic behavior in Apis mellifera honeybee colonies in apiaries located in the backlands of the state of Paraíba. The survey was conducted from March, April and May 2014, in five apiaries located in the cities of Condado, Pombal, Jericó, São Bentinho and São Domingos, both located in the Greater Region of the Backlands of the State of Paraíba, with a total of 25 evaluated hives. The hygienic behavior test was conducted based on the method of drilling the brood. The hygienic behavior percentage was similar in both apiaries, especially in Condado (93.96%), Pombal (94.30%), Jericó (87.63%) and São Domingos (95.20%), there was one slight difference in the apiary of São Bentinho with an average of 76.31%.
