AbstractHumankind is generating digital data at an exponential rate. These data are typically stored using electronic, magnetic or optical devices, which require large physical spaces and cannot last for a very long time. Here we report the use of peptide sequences for data storage, which can be durable and of high storage density. With the selection of suitable constitutive amino acids, designs of address codes and error-correction schemes to protect the order and integrity of the stored data, optimization of the analytical protocol and development of a software to effectively recover peptide sequences from the tandem mass spectra, we demonstrated the feasibility of this method by successfully storing and retrieving a text file and the music file Silent Night with 40 and 511 18-mer peptides respectively. This method for the first time links data storage with the peptide synthesis industry and proteomics techniques, and is expected to stimulate the development of relevant fields.

This autobiography, published for the first time, describes the life and work of Helmut Simon (1922–2013), former constitutional judge and President of the Kirchentag, who described himself as an “outsider” and “lateral thinker”. Helmut Simon has recorded what he experienced against the background of contemporary history, put his impressions and experiences in order, given an account of his life and work, and drawn up a personal balance sheet while self-critically reviewing previous positions. The descriptions are interrupted by a series of – in part very personal – digressions and a selection of striking texts, the subject matter of which has occupied the author for several periods. The work is preceded by a detailed foreword by the authorised editors Dr. Peter Becker, a long-time companion, and Heide Simon, the second wife of Helmut Simon.

This Spring Issue will discuss about big data and multiple aspects of its usability and applicability. Many of us have seen blockbuster movies Back to the future (premiere in 1985), The Terminator (1984) or Minority report (2002). The unifying element of the above mentioned movies is that manuscripts are introducing a superior competitive advantage factor. The protagonists create an advantage by having either real-time data (sometimes from the future) or all relevant (big and historical) data with enormous computing capacity over competitors. A bit after first two of those movies premiered, NASA scientists Cox and Ellsworth (1997) published an article where term ‘big data’ appeared first time (Press, 2014). Intelligence needs to be topped up in a way to create advantage. Data has been there for a long time, in all forms and sizes. It is applied in almost single every business sector and it is getting faster in sense of usability. The data storage capacity has been exponentially increasing over time, but the usability of this wealth of data remains a critical issue.(...)

Cassava chips are a daily staple food for the community, cassava chips have a distinctive form that has never been changed since the first time they were made, namely a circular flat with a crispy texture. Cassava chips are food products made from cassava which have been known for a long time in Indonesia, cassava chips are also widely favored by the Indonesian people because they have a delicious, nutritious taste and the price is also affordable. Based on observations at SMEs know in the village of Manggar, Sluke District, Rembang Regency. It is known that the process of making cassava chips through various stages, ranging from the selection of cassava, cassava stripping and cassava cutting to pressing. In Mubarok UKM the cutting process is only done in 3 hours a day and in one month it is only done in 15 days. In Mubarok UKM, the cutting process still uses a simple tool, namely a knife, and a thread cutter by hand as the motor. With existing tools in UKM there are process constraints that are manual and require a long time, the resulting output is a little with a long time and the quality of pieces that are not uniform and the tools used are less ergonomic, the size of the tool, the tool still causes workers to be diseased, causing a decrease productivity. In this case I designed a tool for cassava cutters to improve the effectiveness and productivity of the MSME. The method used in the design of the tool is methodological. The rational method is one of the product design methods that uses a systematic approach at each stage to produce potential solutions. . The purpose of the article is to trace the main stages of beer history in Ukrainian lands from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century, to reveal the noticeable participation of this drink both in the material and spiritual life of the ethnic group, in particular, in the festive and ceremonial culture and oral poetry. Methodology. The research was conducted on the basis of an interdisciplinary approach, through a systematic analysis of documentary, literary and folklore sources. The scientific novelty of the study is determined by the fact that the history of beer on Ukrainian lands is covered for the first time from the standpoint of ethno-cultural studies. In the focus of the author's attention are national brewing traditions, typical techniques and stereotypes of using beer in various festive ritual contexts. The original selection of documentary and folklore texts detailing the content of the chosen theme is of heuristic value. Conclusions. The analyzed materials allow to state that beer has long played an important role in the life and household of the Ukrainians. For a long time it was used not only as an alcohol drink, but also as a necessary part of the diet. In the course of historical evolution the following types of beer production are distinguished: domestic (communal), monastic, manufacture craft, private entrepreneurial, factory.

The electron holes confined to the CuO2-plane are the charge carriers in high-temperature superconductors, and thus, the distribution of charge plays a key role in determining their superconducting properties. While it has been known for a long time that in principle, electron diffraction at low angles is very sensitive to charge transfer, we, for the first time, show that under a proper TEM imaging condition, it is possible to directly image charge in crystals with a large unit cell. We apply this new way of studying charge distribution to the technologically important Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2O8+δ superconductors.Charged particles interact with the electrostatic potential, and thus, for small scattering angles, the incident particle sees a nuclei that is screened by the electron cloud. Hence, the scattering amplitude mainly is determined by the net charge of the ion. Comparing with the high Z neutral Bi atom, we note that the scattering amplitude of the hole or an electron is larger at small scattering angles. This is in stark contrast to the displacements which contribute negligibly to the electron diffraction pattern at small angles because of the short g-vectors.

The article considers the competition of verbal aspects from a new perspective. Instead of employing the traditional method of demonstrating this phenomenon — an empirical replacement of the aspect of a verb in a phrase with the opposite — the author examines Dostoevsky’s choice between the variants found in different manuscripts of the same text. For the first time, based on a two-component theory of the semantic invariant of a verb type, the aspectual meaning of the selection of a verb aspect is revealed and, as a result of contextual analysis, an artistic interpretation of the selected type is proposed.

SUMUT Bank is one of the Banks in Indonesia with the name of the company PT. Regional Development Bank of North Sumatra. The North Sumatra Bank has branches in each region in North Sumatra both in the district and in the sub-district, and each of these branches is led by a branch leader or branch head. The head of this branch is responsible for the reversal of the Bank being led. The best and most accomplished branch heads deserve more and more awards. The selection of the best branch heads is selected transparently and structured in the hope that it can be a motivation for all branch heads to be able to further improve the quality and service of the Bank they lead. Making the best branch head selection done manually will take a long time and tends to be less transparent and structured. One solution so that the implementation of the selection can be carried out easily and quickly, it requires a Decision Support System that can provide consistency of assessment. In this study the method used is the VIKOR method (Visekriterijumsko Kompromisno Rangiranje). This method makes cracking on alternatives based on criteria that have been determined with an ideal compromise solution or the best solution, so that this system can later be beneficial for the SUMUT Bank to get the title in determining the best branch head. Keywords: Decision Support System, North Sumatra Bank, Branch Head, Vikor

The results of the study of the duration of the juvenile period of indigenous Chechen willow leaf pear genotypes (Pyrus salicifolia Pall.) are given in connection with the acceleration of the breeding process and the use of selected forms in pear breeding for high precocity. The studies were carried out in 2016-2019 at OOO “Orchards of Chechnya” in accordance with the Agreement on creative cooperation with the Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding. The work was carried out in accordance with generally accepted programs and methods. The objects of the study were one-year and two-year-old pear seedlings obtained from sowing seeds of selected dwarf and low-growing local Chechen forms of willow pear (P. salicifolia Pall.), laying fruit buds on annual growths and seedlings of Caucasian pear (P. caucasica Fed.), 20 500 pcs. of each specie. The aim of the research was to study the potential of precocity of willow pear seedlings and to reveal of selected forms with the greatest degree of this trait. Stratified seeds were sown in the sowing department of the OOO “Orchards of Chechnya” production nursery in April, 2017. The seedlings were grown according to the common technology in dryland conditions on the plot with chestnut soil. The first fl owering of plants was noted in the spring, 2019. As a result of the research, for the first time on a large number of the experimental material it was found that in the off spring of the indigenous Chechen willow leaf pear genotypes, the selection of a little more than 2% of seedlings with a very short juvenile period (2 years) was possible. They are of great interest in accelerating the breeding process and in the selection of new pear varieties with high precocity. 20 willow leaf pear genotypes were selected for the further use in breeding for high precocity and as sources of the trait of short juvenile period.
