The recent epidemic of obesity and diabetes and the diversity at the individual level could be explained by the intestinal microbiota-to-host relationship. More than four million gene products from the microbiome could interact with the immune system to induce a tissue metabolic infection, which is the molecular origin of the low-grade inflammation that characterizes the onset of obesity and diabetes.

With few exceptions, humans are incapable of fully recovering from severe physical trauma. Due to these limitations, the field of regenerative medicine seeks to find clinically viable ways to repair permanently damaged tissue. There are two main approaches to regenerative medicine: promoting endogenous repair of the wound, or transplanting a material to replace the injured tissue. In recent years, these two methods have fused with the development of biomaterials that act as a scaffold and mobilize the body’s natural healing capabilities. This process involves not only promoting stem cell behavior, but by also inducing activity of the immune system. Through understanding the immune interactions with biomaterials, we can understand how the immune system participates in regeneration and wound healing. In this review, we will focus on biomaterials that promote endogenous tissue repair, with discussion on their interactions with the immune system.

AbstractLeukocytes are professionals in recognizing and removing pathogenic or unwanted material. They are present in virtually all tissues, and highly motile to enter or leave specific sites throughout the body. Less than a decade ago, physical plasmas entered the field of medicine to deliver their delicate mix of reactive species and other physical agents for mainly dermatological or oncological therapy. Plasma treatment thus affects leukocytes via direct or indirect means: immune cells are either present in tissues during treatment, or infiltrate or exfiltrate plasma-treated areas. The immune system is crucial for human health and resolution of many types of diseases. It is therefore vital to study the response of leukocytes after plasma treatmentin vitroandin vivo. This review gathers together the major themes in the plasma treatment of innate and adaptive immune cells, and puts these into the context of wound healing and oncology, the two major topics in plasma medicine.

Leucocytes are highly motile cells. Their ability to migrate into tissues and organs is dependent on cell adhesion molecules. The integrins are a family of heterodimeric transmembrane cell adhesion molecules that are also signalling receptors. They are involved in many biological processes, including the development of metazoans, immunity, haemostasis, wound healing and cell survival, proliferation and differentiation. The leucocyte-restricted β2 integrins comprise four members, namely αLβ2, αMβ2, αXβ2 and αDβ2, which are required for a functional immune system. In this paper, the structure, functional regulation and signalling properties of these integrins are reviewed.

Introduction: As a result of alkaline substances entering the esophagus wall, necrosis occurs, as well as destruction of the mucous, submucosal and muscular layers of the esophagus. The cellular immune system plays an important role in regulating the various phases of the wound healing process, during which, depending on the time and through specific adhesion interactions, polymorphonuclear leukocytes, macrophages, and lymphocytes penetrate the site of the trauma and lead to an intensive proliferation of fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and keratinocytes. The substances of natural origins based on polyphenolic compounds are possible as a remedy for the normalization of physiological and biochemical parameters in a condition of various pathologies. Phaseolus vulgaris pods extract (PVPE) are an example of a rich source of bioactive compounds with proven human health benefits. Our results revealed imbalance of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in esophageal homogenates in rats with alkali burn of esophagus II degree, which can indicate a prolonged inflammation in the burned area. In the groups of animals with the alkaline burn of the esophagus, that were injected extract there can be traced a change of the indicators in the direction of normalization, indicating about the therapeutic effect of aqueous extract of pods of Phaseolus vulgaris. Objective: The cellular immune system plays an important role in regulating the various phases of the wound healing process, and can be used as a marker of pathological post-burn wound healing, Phaseolus vulgaris pods extract (PVPE) are an example of a rich source of bioactive compounds with proven human health benefits. The aim of the study was to investigate changes in cytokines levels in rat esophageal supernatants in the condition of alkali burn esophagus second degree (AEB 2) and treatment with Phaseolus vulgaris pods extract. Material and Methods: The animals were experimentally simulated with the alkali esophageal burn with 20% (grade II) solvent of NaOH. Levels of cytokines in esophageal tissue homogenates were done by ELISA. Results: In the present study, we investigate the imbalance of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in esophageal homogenates in rats with AEB 2, which can indicate a prolonged inflammation in the burned area. In the groups of animals with the AEB 2, that were injected extract there can be traced a change of the indicators in the direction of normalization. Conclusion: The administration of the extract, in conditions of alkaline burn of the esophagus, contributes change of the indicators in the direction of normalization indicating the therapeutic effect of aqueous extract of pods of Phaseolus vulgaris.

AbstractMatrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are a large family of proteases comprising 24 members in vertebrates. They are well known for their extracellular matrix remodelling activity. MMP28 is the last member of the family to be discovered. It is a secreted MMP involved in wound healing, immune system maturation, cell survival and migration. MMP28 is also expressed during embryogenesis in human and mouse. Here we describe the detailed expression profile of MMP28 in Xenopus laevis embryos. We show that MMP28 is expressed maternally and accumulates at neurula and tailbud stages specifically in the cranial placode territories adjacent to migrating neural crest cells. As a secreted MMP, MMP28 may be required in normal neural crest-placode interactions.

ABSTRACTLimited resources must be partitioned among traits that enhance fitness. Although survival-related traits often trade off with reproduction, survival-related traits themselves may trade off with each other under energy limitations. Whole-organism performance and the immune system both enhance survival, yet are costly, but it is unclear how the two might trade off with each other under energy-limited conditions. Resources can be allocated to very different types of performance (e.g. aerobic endurance versus anaerobic sprinting), just as they can be allocated to different components of the immune system (e.g. innate versus acquired) to maximize survival. We forced allocation to different performance traits in green anole lizards (Anolis carolinensis) using specialized exercise training, to determine how different components of the immune system would be impacted by shifts in energy use. We measured immunocompetence in endurance-trained, sprint-trained and untrained control lizards by evaluating swelling response to phytohemagglutinin (cell-mediated immunity), antibody response to sheep red blood cells (acquired humoral immunity) and wound healing (integrated immunity). Endurance-trained lizards had reduced cell-mediated immunity, whereas sprint-trained lizards had reduced rates of wound healing. The acquired immune response was not affected by either type of training. Because each immune measure responded differently to the different types of training, our results do not support the hypothesis that simple energy limitation determines overall investment in immunity. Instead, different components of the immune system appear to be affected in ways specific to how energy is invested in performance.

Background: Instead of reduce pain, TENS is also capable of stimulating the peripheral nerves to work optimally and improving blood circulation where the electrodes are applied. Having good blood circulation enhances good wound healing as well. The decrease in pain level will boost the immune system thus the wound healing can also be improved. It needs further studies on the effect of TENS on wound healing. Objective: The research aimed to explore specific effect of TENS on wound healing. Methodology: The research was conducted by using Science Direct article, Medline, Google Search and Pro Quest to find articles which are appropriate with inclusion and exclusion criteria to be reviewed. Results: The necrosis cases of the post-operative wound were higher in the control compared to the intervention group, there were no complications with significant p-value of (P <0.0001). There were differences in the provision of TEENS with additional of heat protocol before, during and after the intervention towards the blood circulation with the significance p value of (P, 0.05). Good granulation occurs, the hair follicle grew well and Pro-inflammatory declined (TNF-a) with the significance p-value of (P <0.05). The comparison of necrosis percentage in five groups were 43.88%, 39.20%, 38.57%, 32.14% and� 44.13% in G1 to G5 respectively. The statistical tests proved the TEENS intervention in group G4 was more effective with the significance p value of� 0.032. The TENS with frequency of 10 Hz is more effective compared to 100 Hz TENS and control groups who received placebo towards the adrenergic receptor. TENS intervention at a dose of 100 Hz can improve the reactivity of venous blood circulation well. The amount of oedema in the wound is reduced and capillary refills 2 seconds with the significance p-value of (P <0.001) significantly. Discussion: TENS at a frequency of 10 Hz to 100 Hz is the bioelectrical body frequency. At low frequencies, it will be able to stimulate the secretion of endorphin hormone so the patients who received TENS intervention can be more relaxed and feel better as the pain is relieved. The immune system works well and can help the wound heals properly by inhibition of inflammatory factor. Conclusions: TENS therapy is proven to help wound healing. TENS equipment is available everywhere, easy to use, economical, does not cause addiction, and can be given at any time with fewer side effects to the patients. Durian or Durio zibethinus is a tropical fruit originating from Southeast Asia. Durian is often known as "King of Fruits". In Asian countries, durian is widely used as traditional medicine such as antipyretic drugs, anti-malaria, treating skin diseases, jaundice, anti-inflammation, boosting the immune system, wound healing and so forth. In fact, several studies have proven the health benefits of durian fruit such as antimicrobial, ant diabetic, ant cholesterol, antioxidant, antiproliferative, antibacterial, antifungal, and others. The objective of this paper is to describe the effect of durian on cardiovascularespecially blood pressurewhich is still controversial. This paper use literature study involving 18 libraries both national and international journals or books. In conclusion, there are still many people who believe that consumption of durian causes hypertension or high blood pressure, whereas based on research, consumption of durian in a small amount does not affect blood pressure, only for patients with hypertension must be careful in consuming durian in large amounts.   Keywords: durian, blood pressure, systolic, diastolic, heart rate
