Ciujung River is one of the important rivers in Banten Province and it is the main water supply for agriculture, industry and bathing. Due to extensive agricultural, urban, and industrial activities in the watershed of this ecosystem, some studies have assumed that the river is contaminated. But, there is no research related Ciujung River water quality with biological indicator and maping pollutant sources. The aim of this study is analyze : water quality of Ciujung River and influence of activities in Ciujung watershed to the water pollution in Ciujung River. Calculation Pollution Index (PI) and calculation chlorophyll-a abundance are adopted for water quality assessments. Water quality were analysed based on secondary data from BBWS C3 in January-May 2020. Chlorophyll-a abundance measured by Sentinel-2 imagery, water quality assessments result of each section presented in spasial data with GIS. Water quality map overlayed with land use map to indentify the influence of activities in Ciujung watershed to water pollution in Ciujung River. PI calculation results show that Ciujung River is moderately polluted, PI calculation result of each section is >5. Meanwhile, the abundance of chlorophyll-a can describe level of pollution in Ciujung River from biological parameters, the highest chlorophyll-a abundance is in Pamarayan (38,6) and the lowest chlorophyll-a abundance is in Jembatan Keong (18,6).

Abstract The research to determine the carrying capacity of pollutant loads in the middle to downstream Cisadane River segment started from Jl. Teuku Umar, Tangerang and ends at Muara Tanjung Burung, Tangerang Regency with a research time starting from March – June 2021. Increased land-use change due to human and industrial activities so that population growth and limited residential land make watersheds a target for land conversion. The purpose of this study is to identify sources of pollutants that have the potential to contaminate the Cisadane River in the middle to downstream segments, analyze water quality and pollutant load capacity, the Cisadane River in the middle to downstream segments along 34 km. The method used for identification of pollutant sources is carried out by conducting field surveys, water quality analysis is carried out by SNI and compared with quality standards according to Peraturan Pemerintah No. 22 of 2021, as well as analysis of the Pollutant Load Capacity (PLC) BOD and DO using the QUAL2Kw model. The results of identifying potential pollutant sources in the middle to a downstream segment of the Cisadane River are dominated by settlements, agriculture, industry, and other domestic activities, namely restaurants and stalls. The results of water quality analysis for BOD parameters ranged from 2.51 mg/L - 5.1 mg/L, and DO range from 5.4 mg/L – 7,2 mg/L. BOD parameters from all points 1-2 meet the quality standard class 2 (3 mg/L) & points 4-6 do not meet the quality standard. The DO parameter is still in good condition because the more significant the DO value, the waters are in good condition. The high levels of BOD in the Cisadane River are influenced by domestic waste that enters the river, and the land is dominated by built-up spaces as settlements, schools, hotels and malls. Land use around the river is very influential on the load of pollutants that enter the river. The lowest DTBP of the Cisadane River for BOD is 22497,9 kg/day, and the highest is 33201,6 kg/day. The decrease in the concentration of BOD load must be lowered in the Cisadane River by 29% - 42%.

Many activities and the continuous disposal of waste water has resulted water pollution in Tukad Rangda. Tukad Rangda's water quality over the last five years (2012-2016) indicated experiencing contamination with decreasing water quality. The condition indicates the need of serious effort to maintain the water quality of Tukad Rangda. The purpose of this research is to know the perception and behavior of head of household and businesses in conducting waste water management that potentially causing Tukad Rangda water contamination, determining water quality and water quality status based on the Pollution Index, and determining appropriate alternative strategies to control water pollution in Tukad Rangda. Sample was collected by purposive sampling. Water samples was taken at three point: on the upstream, middle, and downstream of Tukad Rangda. Samples are analyzed in situ and in laboratory. Determination of perception and community behavior based on questionnaires and interviews to households and businesses. The data obtained were analyzed by force-field analysis to determine alternative strategy of Tukad Rangda water contamination control. The results of perception analysis of households and businesses on waste water management that has the potential to cause Tukad Rangda water contamination shows well-categorized results. However, for the behavior of head of households and businesses on waste water management that potentially causing Tukad Rangda water pollution, each of them showing results that can be categorized as quite good and less good respectively. Water quality of Tukad Rangda at upstream, middle, and downstream areas have exceeded the water quality standard class II in accordance with the Bali Governor Regulations No. 16 year 2016 for these parameters: BOD, COD, phosphate, and lead. Water quality status of Tukad Rangda based on Method of Pollution Index at upstream, middle, and downstream classified slightly contaminated. Based on force-field analysis, the alternative strategy obtained is increasing the insight and understanding about waste water management to the community, water waste management regulation at household scale, coaching, supervision, and law enforcement against businesses violating the applicable regulations, providing waste water treatment facilities, as well as the development of Tukad Rangda as water tourism area through the involvement of community participation.

Abstract This research aims at using a combined water quality index (WQI) and pollution index (PI) to assess and characterize river water quality of Cau River which is one of the longest rivers in the north of Vietnam. Five different water quality and water pollution indices were used including the Water Quality Index (WQI), Comprehensive Pollution Index (CPI), Organic Pollution Index (OPI), Eutrophication Index (EI), and Trace Metal Pollution Index (TPI). The combined water pollution indices show more serious pollution towards the river downstream. In particular, CPI and OPI reveal a high risk of eutrophication. Cluster analysis was applied to classify water monitoring points into different quality groups in order to provide a better understanding of the water status in the river. This study indicates that a combined water quality analysis could be an option for decision making water use purposes while its single index shows the current situation of water quality.

Abstract Landsat satellites, 5 and 7, have significant potential for estimating several water quality parameters, but to our knowledge, there are few investigations which integrate these earlier sensors with the newest and improved mission of Landsat 8 satellite. Thus, the comparability of water quality assessing across different Landsat sensors needs to be evaluated. The main objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of integrating Landsat sensors to estimate chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-a) in Río Tercero reservoir (Argentina). A general model to retrieve Chl-a was developed (R2 = 0.88). Using observed versus predicted Chl-a values the model was validated (R2 = 0.89) and applied to Landsat imagery obtaining spatial representations of Chl-a in the reservoir. Results showed that Landsat 8 can be combined with Landsat 5 and 7 to construct an empirical model to estimate water quality characteristics, such as Chl-a in a reservoir. As the number of available and upcoming sensors with open access will increase with time, we expect that this trend will certainly further promote remote sensing applications and serve as a valuable basis for a wide range of water quality assessments.

The main objective of the research is a complex assessment of the actual ecological status of Salgir River waters based on several methods: visual survey of the watercourse as well as studying spatial and temporal transformation of water quality and determining the degree of water pollution by means of an integral criterion –water pollution index (IES) and bioassay techniques carried on seeds of two test crops (cress salad and wheat), and also zoning a watercourse according to several criteria. The assessment found a tendency to increasing degradation of water quality due to the increase of the anthropogenic load (increase in water abstracted from the river). The typical pollutants in the Salgir river are petroleum products, phosphates, lead, copper, biological oxygen uptake (BOU5). Phosphate content is in the range of 5.5–27.5, lead – 3.06–6.67, copper –1.02–4.52 MPC. The most powerful source of pollution of the river is the treatment facilities of Simferopol. The results of this comprehensive study made it possible not only to reflect the real situation at the water facility, but also to highlight sections of the river where a set of measures aimed at reducing/preventing the consequences of anthropogenic impact should be carried out as a priority.

The problems of drinking water quality have been considered in some settlements of the Turkivskiy district of Lviv region, in particular concerning the content of Nitrogen compounds. 20 sources of decentralized water supply were investigated. It was found that the main hydrochemical indicators of water samples mainly met the requirements for the degree of contamination of hygienic classification of water bodies. At the same time, analyzing the samples for the presence of nitrogen compounds, it was found that in the tested samples: the content of nitrate ions fluctuated within 0,02 - 016 mg/dm3 (average annual values did not exceed the permissible value); the content of ammonium ions is in the range of 0.5-2.8 mg/dm3, which did not significantly exceed the maximum permissible value. At the time, analysis for NO3- showed an excess of acceptable values in almost all samples by 1.3 у 4.2 times. It was found that the amount of nitrates decreased with the transition from the alluvial aquifers to the indigenous ones, where the average content was 108.9 mg/dm3 and 86.8 mg/dm3, respectively. This is probably due to better protection of the bedrock from surface contamination, greater capacity of the corresponding aquifers and their deeper occurrence. According to the average value of the water pollution index for the nitrate group, the studied objects of decentralized water supply belong to the second class ‒ moderately contaminated. The correlation between the water pollution index by nitrate group and the population morbidity is calculated to be direct and sufficiently high (0.73). The most associated indicators of water quality are diseases of the circulatory system, blood and hematopoietic organs, digestive organs, endocrine and urogenital systems.

ABSTRAK Waduk Jatibarang terletak di Kelurahan Kandri, Kecamatan Gunung Pati, Kota Semarang resmi dioperasikan pada tahun 2014. Pemanfaatan Waduk Jatibarang sebagai penyedia air baku, tempat pariwisata dan kegiatan perikanan. Pemanfaatan waduk dapat menurunkan kualitas air. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui status pencemaran perairan Waduk Jatibarang berdasarkan berbagai kegiatan peruntukan (kegiatan pariwisata, perikanan dan penyediaan air baku). Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari - Pebruari 2019. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survei. Pengambilan contoh air menggunakan metode purposive sampling, dilakukan 2 (dua) kali pengambilan dengan rentang waktu 1 bulan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengukur variabel kualitas air yang terdapat pada PP Nomor 82 Tahun 2001 tentang Pengelolaan Kualitas Air dan Pengendalian Pencemaran Air, antara lain Temperatur, TSS, pH, DO, BOD, COD, Amonia dan Total Coliform. Selanjutnya di analisis dengan metode Indeks Pencemaran sesuai KepMen LH Nomor 115 Tahun 2003 tentang Pedoman Penentuan Status Mutu Air. Perairan Waduk Jatibarang memiliki temperatur berkisar antara 30 - 31◦C, TSS 20 - 80 mg/l, pH netral, DO 6,8 - 8,6 mg/l, BOD 1,46 - 3,95 mg/l, COD 9,7 - 15,69 mg/l, Amonia 0,110 - 0,566 mg/l dan Total Coliform 15 – 4.600 sel/100 ml. Status pencemaran pada dermaga Waduk Jatibarang (kegiatan pariwisata) tercemar ringan – sedang (IP = 3,62 - 5,49). Inlet Waduk Jatibarang (Kegiatan Perikanan) tercemar ringan – sedang (IP = 2,88 – 5,93). Outlet Waduk Jatibarang (penyediaan air baku) tercemar ringan (IP = 1,43 – 1,84). ABSTRACT Jatibarang Reservoir is located in the Village Kandri, District Gunung Pati, Semarang officially operated in 2014. Utilization of Jatibarang Reservoir as a provider of raw water, tourism sites and fisheries activities. Utilization of reservoirs can reduce water quality. The purpose of research to determine the water pollution status of Jatibarang Reservoir in based on the various activities allocation (tourism, fisheries and raw water supply). Research was conducted on January - February 2019. The method used is a survey method. Water sampling using purposive sampling with two replicate and sampling interval 1 month. The research was conducted by measuring the water quality variables by activities allocation according with Government Regulation Number 82 of 2001 about Management of Water Quality and Water Pollution Control, among others temperature, TSS, pH, DO, BOD, COD, ammonia and Total Coliform. Furthermore, analized with Pollution Index according to the decree of the minister of environment of the republic of indonesia number 115 year 2003 regarding Guidelines for Determination of Water Quality Status. Jatibarang Reservoir waters have temperature ranging between 30 - 31◦C, TSS 20 - 80 mg/l, pH neutral, DO 6,8 – 8,6 mg/l, BOD 1,46 – 3,95 mg/l, COD 9,7 - 15,69 mg/l, Ammonia 0,110 – 0,566 mg/l and Total Coliform 15 – 4.600 cells/100 ml. Pollution status of the dock Jatibarang Reservoir (tourism activity) lightly - moderatly polluted (IP = 3,62 – 5,49). Rivers in the Boentuka Sub-watershed of Timor Tengah Selatan Regency have been shown to experience pollution caused by domestic and agricultural activities. This study aims to assess water quality and identify river water pollution loads based on water quality according to Government Regulation Number 82 of 2001 concerning water pollution management and control. The parameters analyzed were physical, chemical, and biological, the length of the river in the Boentuka Sub-watershed was 15km. The method of river water pollution index from upstream to downstream in 6 sampling points with test parameters such as the biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, fecal coliform and total coliform in the downstream has exceeded the criteria of class I water quality standards according to PP No. 82 of 2001. Pollution index of 1.11 to 4.62. This shows that the quality of river water has been polluted with mild pollution status. While the pollution load of domestic waste dumped into the river is on the biological oxygen demand parameter of 6297,584 kg / day and chemical oxygen demand of 7871.98 kg / day, fecal coliform pollution load of 458.0108 MPN / day and totalcoli 1210.121 MPN / day

The Assessment of the Surface Water Quality Using the Water Pollution Index: A Case Study of the Timok River (The Danube River Basin), Serbia The Timok River (202 km long, 4547 km2 basin area) is located in East Serbia. It is a right tributary of the Danube River and one of the most polluted watercourses in Serbia. On the basis of the data provided by the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia, the paper presents an analysis of water quality and pollution using the combined physico-chemical WPI index (Water Pollution Index) calculated for two periods - 1993-96 and 2006-2009 at four hydrological stations: Zaječar-Gamzigrad (Crni Timok River), Zaječar (Beli Timok River), Rgotina (Borska Reka River) and Čokonjar (Timok River). The following parameters were taken into consideration: dissolved O2, O2 saturation, pH, suspended sediments, Five Day Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5), Chemical Oxygen Demand (CODMn), nitrites, nitrates, orthophosphates, ammonium, metals (Cu, Fe, Mn, Hg, Ni, Zn, Cd), sulphates and coliform germs. The average WPI values were calculated for the observed periods based on the comparison of the annual average values of the listed parameters and defined standard values for the I water quality class (according to the Regulation on the Hygienic Acceptability of Potable Water of the Republic of Serbia). The highest pollution degree was recorded in the Borska Reka River, where heavy metal levels (especially manganese and iron) were significantly increased. These metals are indicators of inorganic pollution (primarily caused by copper mining). Also, increased values of the organic pollution indicators (ammonium, coliform germs, Five-Day Biological Oxygen Demand - BOD5) in the Borska Reka and the Timok rivers are the result of uncontrolled domestic wastewater discharge.

The fluctuation dynamics of average annual, average monthly and minimum annual discharges of the Guyva River for 1938–2010 years on the Horodkivka, Peski gauging Stations is given. Comparative results of chemical composition and water salinity in the Guyva river are given for the periods of 1967–2015. The article presents the results of environmental assessment of water quality on the criteria of components of the salt content pollution, environmental sanitation indexes and content of specific substances toxic effects. The water pollution index is calculated and the overall assessment of pollution is made by the whole set of indicators. Keywords: fluctuations in water consumption, chemical composition, mineralization, quality assessment, water pollution.
