Crocidolomia binotalis Zell is an important pest in Brassicaceae vegetable crops. Vegetable insecticide is one potential alternative to controlling the pest. This study aims to determine the application time of noni fruit extract and to determine the effective concentration of noni fruit extract as a vegetable insecticide in controlling C. binotalis larva on cabbage plants in the field. this study used a Completely Randomized Design (RAL) consisting of two treatment factors and four replications. The first factor is the concentration of extract (5 ppm, 10 ppm, 15 ppm and 20 ppm) and the second factor is the time of application of vegetable pesticide before the pest is invested (W1) and after the pest is invested (W2). So there are 32 units of experiments and 4 units of experiments added as control. The results showed, noni fruit extract had no significant effect on mortality of C. binotalis larvae. The highest mortality rate is at 100% K2 (10ppm) concentration at the time of application before the pest is invested (W1). The interaction had significant effect on the wet weight of the plant canopy but had no significant effect on the mortality of the pest, the intensity of the attack, the percentage of pupa formed, and the present percentage of imago.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of overactive bladder (OAB) appears to increase with age (aging), and free radicals most contribute to an increase in the aging process. But now, some researchers have found the efficacy of Morinda citrifolia in inhibiting the oxidative stress process so that it is expected to be beneficial for the treatment of OAB. AIM: The aim of this study was to find out the effect of M. citrifolia extract on overactive women bladder (OAB) through observation of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) urine level. METHODS: This research is an experimental study using double-blind randomized controlled trial design conducted at General Hospital H. Adam Malik Medan, USU Pharmacy Laboratory for extraction of noni fruit (M. citrifolia) and the Integrated Laboratory of Biochemical-Biomolecular USU Faculty of Medicine for the examination of hs-CRP urine levels. A t-dependent test is performed if data distribution is normally distributed or if not normally distributed, the median values are compared with the Mann–Whitney U-test. The effect of noni in hs-CRP levels performed by wilcoxon signed-Ranks Test. The statistical significance test with CI 95% and significant difference value p<0,05. RESULTS: These results indicate that the noni fruit extract has weak antioxidant activity (IC50 >150 ppm). From the statistical analysis, a significant difference (p < 0.05) was obtained in hs-CRP urine level after compared to before treatment. These results indicate that after treatment, there was an improvement in the degree of OAB symptom scores in Group A and Group B. CONCLUSIONS: Noni fruit extract (M. citrifolia) is proven to be able to inhibit oxidative stress in urothelium through observation of hs-CRP urine levels in overactive women bladder (OAB).

Effectivity of  Morinda citrifolia extract on in-vitro growth inhibition of Ralstonia sp.  Morinda citrifolia has been known as one of plants having numerous medicinal properties.  Extract of the fruits shows antibacterial activity against several bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.  The purpose of this study was to observe inhibitor effect of  M. citrifolia fruit extract, and to investigate the effect of different concentrations of  M. citrifolia fruit extract on in-vitro growth of  Ralstonia (Pseudomonas) sp., the causal agent of banana bacterial wilt disease in Lampung.  Inhibition effect of  M. citrifolia was determined by the presence of inhibition zone, and concentration effect was determined by the diameter of  inhibition zone . The study consisted of two experiments.  The treatments of the first experiment were three different kinds of fruit extract, namely the whole fruit, the seeds, and the fleshy parts, and the second one consisted of six different levels of extract concentrations.  The results showed that the whole fruit extract was the most effective as an in-vitro growth inhibitor, and the higher the concentration level the higher the growth inhibition zone formed.

To elucidate the anti-proliferative effect of noni (Morinda citrifolia) fruit extract for a Saccharomyces cerevisiae model organism, analysis of gene expression changes related to cell cycle associated with inhibition effect of noni fruit extract was carried out. Anti-proliferative of noni fruit extract was analyzed using gene expression changes of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (strains FY833 and BY4741).  Transcriptional analysis of genes that play a role in cell cycle was conducted by growing cells on YPDAde broth medium containing 1% (w/v) noni fruit extract, and then subjected using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).  Transcriptional level of genes CDC6 (Cell Division Cycle-6), CDC20 (Cell Division Cycle-20), FAR1 (Factor ARrest-1), FUS3 (FUSsion-3), SIC1 (Substrate/Subunit Inhibitor of Cyclin-dependent protein kinase-1), WHI5 (WHIskey-5), YOX1 (Yeast homeobOX-1) and YHP1 (Yeast Homeo-Protein-1) increased, oppositely genes expression of DBF4 (DumbBell Forming), MCM1 (Mini Chromosome Maintenance-1) and TAH11 (Topo-A Hypersensitive-11) decreased, while the expression level of genes CDC7 (Cell Division Cycle-7), MBP1 (MIul-box Binding Protein-1) and SWI6 (SWItching deficient-6) relatively unchanged. These results indicated that gene expression changes might associate with anti-proliferative effect from noni fruit extract. These gene expressions changes lead to the growth inhibition of S.cerevisiae cell because of cell cycle defect.
