This study aims to empirically determine and analyze the role of women's participation in politics, female population growth, trade balance, and women's labor force participation in promoting economic development across 15 OIC countries during the 2006-2017 period, both in short- and long-run from an Islamic perspective. Using the Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method, this study found that, in the short term, trade balance and women's labor force participation have promoted Islamic economic development. In contrast, women's participation has a negative effect on the economic development of OIC countries. In the long term, on the other hand, all variables have promoted Islamic economic development in OIC countries, except for the trade balance variable. These findings suggest that coordination and synergy for strengthening economic development among OIC countries need to be enhanced, focusing on women's role in politics, labor force, quality of population, and economic dimensions.JEL Classification: C33, F16, J16, O11, P48Ramdayani, S., Majid, M.

Agricultural zakat that is practiced in Malaysia is imposed on staple food of a particular region that has met the nisab (minimal value). However, there are issues of non-uniformity estimation of agricultural zakah for instance inconsistency nisab setting for metric weights, and the applied rate variability. What are the root causes of the problems? Therefore, this paper is an attempt to highlight some issues inherent in the conceptualisation of agricultural zakat from Islamic perspective by analysing the definition of zakat, crops that have to be imposed with zakat, nisab, the rates imposed based on irrigation, and the deduction of some costs prior to the imposition of zakat.  A qualitative methodology was employed to analyse the data through inductive, deductive, comparative approaches. The findings identified non-uniformity estimation of agricultural zakah occurred due to the varied interpretation enriching the Islamic legal tradition by different schools of juristic thought. These findings will assist the policy makers and the management of zakat institutions to harmonise agriculture zakat framework based on the authenticity of Islamic law for the social and economic development in Malaysia.

The issue work ethic and religion become popular when Max Weber developed a theory on Protestant Work Ethics (PWE) which seems later is able to reinforce the Western economy through its capitalism ideology. In his work, Weber claimed that only the Protestant Christian could accelerate and boost up the economy while none of the eastern religions including Islam would be able to do so. Although many scholars have refused the claim, the backwardness of many Islamic states, ethically and economically, has risen the question about the teaching of Islamic religion on work activities. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the concept of work ethics from an Islamic perspective. In specific, it intends to extract the concept, principle, dimension and values of Islamic Work Ethics (IWE) to be operationalized into daily practices. It revealed that many Quranic verses and Hadiths have directly and indirectly discussed the concept of work ethics in Islam. If properly operationalized, it can bridge the gap between the theory of IWE and the realities of economic development in Islamic states. Adherence to it will influence the economic development in Islamic countries that brings virtuous worldly life (al-falah fi al-dunya), as well as preparing for the success of afterlife (al-falah fi al-akhirah).
