Dispersal of Larus novaehollandiae Stephens, from 10 colonies in South Australia, was studied during 1968-8 1 by means of bands designed for identification of free-living, uncaptured individuals. Dispersal patterns were characteristic of each colony, even for three colonies which were, at most, 10 km apart. Almost all dispersal records came from the area between Adelaide and Melbourne, and within 30 km of the coast. After breeding, the majority of gulls disperse eastwards; however, dispersal from each colony was correlated with a shift of gull population into areas where food was available from human sources such as rubbish dumps. From colonies 80 km south-east of Adelaide, a major human population, the predominant winter dispersal of these gulls was north-west, into the city and suburbs. The maximum direct-line dispersal distances recorded for 95% of the 3133 resighted gulls were <458 km. The greatest direct-line distance recorded was 1430 km. Overall, there was no significant difference in the mean dispersal distances of juveniles and adults, although at distances >480 km significantly more juveniles (<2y) were seen than adults (>2y). This involved only 2.5% of the total number of birds resighted. It is suggested that older, dominant birds maintain high status at preferred feeding places, and juveniles are possibly more erratic in their movements, as they search for food. This would account for the difference in the dispersal ofjuveniles and adults from a particular colony, and also for the significantly higher proportion of juveniles found at extreme distances from their natal colonies.

During World War II, representatives of almost all the Soviet Republics fought in partisan detachments in the occupied territory of the Leningrad Region. Among them were many representatives of the Central Asian republics: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Many Leningrad citizens, including relatives of partisans, had been evacuated to Central Asia by that time. However, representatives of Asian workers’ collectives came to meet with the partisans. The huge distance, the difference in cultures and even completely different weather conditions did not become an obstacle to those patriots-Turkestanis who joined the resistance forces in the North-West of Russia.

The paper presents the results of studies of epitaphs for children up to almost eight years of age from the city of Rome (3rd-4th c. – B. Stawoska-Jundziłł, Vixit cum parentibus. Children aged under seven in Christian families from Rome of 3rd-4th c., Bydgoszcz 2008) in comparison with the views of John Chrysostom on the upbringing of small children. The content of over 2000 children from Rome demonstrates a high status of even the youngest offspring in the Christian families from this city. The founders cared for their religious „endowment”, bestowed their love on them and tried to remember them as members of the family even if they had died after a few days or months. It was unquestionably believed that small children are immediately saved, go to God and commune with the saints. Thanks to this the family could hope for their support and prayers. Whereas, John Chrysostom only casually mentions small children and, what is more, ambivalently: on one hand presenting them on the basis of thorough observations of their behavior and looking after them and on the other hand as mindless creatures, a harbinger of valuable person following the Stoics e.g. Seneca. As far as the most important for me question of the death of small children is concerned he takes a stand similar to that of the Romans. The children are really without sins (they did not commit them consciously) so God shall accept them only through the hardships of illness and death. Now they are asleep (unlike in the studied epitaphs) but they will rise from the dead and join their parents. Thus, the despair after their death is pointless; God decided the best for them. The difference lies in the fact that the founders of epitaphs more decidedly see the perfection of posthumous existence of even the smallest children who there reach their full maturity whereas John does not seem to be interested in this issue since he directs his teaching mostly to maturing and mature Christians in the earthly life and not in the beyond.

AbstractIntrinsic disorder is much more abundant in eukaryotic than in prokaryotic proteins. However, the reason behind this is unclear. It has been proposed that the disordered regions are functionally important for regulation in eukaryotes, but it has also been proposed that the difference is a result of lower selective pressure in eukaryotes. Almost all studies intrinsic disorder is predicted from the amino acid sequence of a protein. Therefore, there should exist an underlying difference in the amino acid distributions between eukaryotic and prokaryotic proteins causing the predicted difference in intrinsic disorder. To obtain a better understanding of why eukaryotic proteins contain more intrinsically disordered regions we compare proteins from complete eukaryotic and prokaryotic proteomes. Here, we show that the difference in intrinsic disorder origin from differences in the linker regions. Eukaryotic proteins have more extended linker regions and, in particular, the eukaryotic linker regions are more disordered. The average eukaryotic protein is about 500 residues long; it contains 250 residues in linker regions, of which 80 are disordered. In comparison, prokaryotic proteins are about 350 residues long and only have 100-110 residues in linker regions, and less than 10 of these are intrinsically disordered.Further, we show that there is no systematic increase in the frequency of disorder-promoting residues in eukaryotic linker regions. Instead, the difference in frequency of only three amino acids seems to lie behind the difference. The most significant difference is that eukaryotic linkers contain about 9% serine, while prokaryotic linkers have roughly 6.5%. Eukaryotic linkers also contain about 2% more proline and 2-3% fewer isoleucine residues. The reason why primarily these amino acids vary in frequency is not apparent, but it cannot be excluded that the difference is serine is related to the increased need for regulation through phosphorylation and that the proline difference is related to increase of eukaryotic specific repeats.

Introduction. Small intestine atresia is one of the most common causes of low bowel obstruction in newborns. Mortality in this pathology ranges from 5 to 60%, depending on the country. Modern views about surgical correction are rather contradictory. Purpose. To analyze the surgical treatment of small intestine atresia in the surgical department of the City Children’s Hospital No. 1 ССH) (Chernivtsi, Ukraine) and the surgical department Saint Damien Pediatric Hospital NPH (SDH) (Port-o-Prence, Haiti). To determine the best methods of surgery. Materials and methods. The surgical treatment of 15 children under the conditions of SDH (Haiti) and 12 children under conditions of the city children’s clinical hospital (CCH, Chernivtsi) with atresia of the small intestine was analyzed. Determined the effectiveness of closed (oblique «end-to-end» anastomosis, taping with «end-to-end» anastomosis, Denis-Brown and Louw anastomoses), discharging (U- and T-shaped, taping with anostomosing and suspended proximal enterostoma), anastomoses and stomas (end, double, according to Mikulich). Mortality with limited parenteral nutrition was 40% (SDH), with the presence of parenteral nutrition – 33.33% (ССH, Chernivtsi). Results. According to the analyzed data, we believe that the use of the method of surgical treatment should correspond to the type of atresia, the distance of the blind proximal end from the Treitz ligament, the difference in the diameters of the adducting and abducting sections, the possibility of parenteral nutrition, and the threat of short bowel syndrome (SCS). Conclusions. Y-shaped discharging anastomosis «side-to-side» with the removal of the proximal area in the form of a stoma, can be the method of choice in case of significant difference between the intestinal diameters. It provides a wide area of the small bowel junction, chyme abduction until the fistula heals, and can be used for different types of small bowel atresia. The research was carried out in accordance with the principles of the Helsinki Declaration. The study protocol was approved by the Local Ethics Committee of participating institution. The informed consent of the patient was obtained for conducting the studies. Keywords: small intestine atresia, surgical treatment, children.

<p>Tabriz is a large and industrial city in the north west of Iran which suffers from severe air pollution due to being surrounded by mountains. Considering lack of official reports about the levels of heavy metals in Tabriz air, two zones of the city were selected for measurement of heavy metals in the air of this city. One of the two zones was located in a very heavy traffic zone of the city center, while the other was situated in a zone with relatively low levels of pollution. Three metals of lead, cadmium, and mercury were measured in these two zones. Among the three measured metals, lead with a concentration of 662 ng m-3 had the highest concentration, followed by cadmium and mercury with concentrations of 92 and 8 ng m-3 respectively. The concentrations of lead and cadmium in cold seasons were 30-50% greater than in warm seasons, whereas no significant correlation was observed between the concentration of mercury and the ambient temperature. No significant difference was observed between the concentrations of these metals in the two sampling sites; the levels of lead in winter in the city center were 20% greater than that in the countryside.</p>

The Chinese widely settled in Serbia in the 1990's. There is no official data on the real number of the Chinese living in Serbia. Most of the Chinese live in New Belgrade, near the shopping center at Block 70. Media images of the Chinese community in Serbia, especially in Belgrade are at the level of urban legend. Those are stories about their number, nutrition, non-dying fictitious mixed marriages, etc. Knowledge of contemporary Serbs about the Chinese mainly exists at the level of media information or it is based on contacts with representatives of the Chinese community in Serbia. In this sense, there are two different kinds of stereotypes among the Serbs about the Chinese. Some are related to the picture of the Chinese Chinese, i.e. Chinese in China, and others are pictures of the Serbian Chinese, i.e. Chinese who live in Serbia. Association differs according to age structure and depending on which part of the city examinees live in. Almost all of the older examinees, regardless of gender and education, emphasized the difference between the Chinese population in China and those in Serbia. In addition, films made a significant role in getting to know Chinese culture. Association with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan appeared to the words China and Chinese among examinees of all ages. How ethnic hetero-stereotypes about the Chinese in Serbia will continue to change depends on different factors. First of all, on social and political factors and images of someone else mainly created through the media.

A teacher should be just and compassionate to be a good teacher. If there is weakness in these two, what a pity for those children who are trained by that teacher! Because one of the biggest diseases of this time is that mercilessness and unjustness are the raising trends. The purpose of this study is to analyze the mercy levels of the classroom teachers in terms of different variables. The study was conducted on 227 classroom teachers, 132 females and 95 males, working in Ağrı Province, Turkey in 2017.In the study, the Compassion Scale (CS) developed by Pommier (2011) and adapted to Turkish by Seher Akdeniz and Mehmet Engin Deniz was applied to the teachers. A statistical program was used to analyze the data. Frequency distribution to determine demographic characteristics, t test to analyze the relationship between compassion level and two independent variables, and ANOVA variant analysis to analyze the relationship between compassion level and variables more than two were used in the analyses of the data. The difference between the variables was interpreted on the basis of p0.05 significance level.According to the findings, it was determined that there is a significant difference between the level of compassion of the teachers and the gender, the settlement they work in, and their term of office. It was determined that the mean scores of male teachers were higher than the female teachers in the dimensions of indifference, disconnection and intercourse in the sub-dimensions of compassion level, the mean scores of the teachers working in the village in the sub-dimension of being aware of the sharing is higher than the teachers working in the city, and the mean scores of the teachers with 6-10 years of period of office is higher than those with 16 years of period of office in the sub-dimension of being aware of the sharing and the mean scores of the teachers with 5 years and below of period of office is higher than those with 6-10 years of period of office in the sub-dimension of disengagement. It can be recommended that increasing the compassion levels of the teachers in social and school life will have a positive effect on their relationships with students. It is also of higher importance to analyze other variables which are thought to positively affect compassion.
