CRISPR-Cas gene editing tools have brought us to an era of synthetic biology that will change the world. Excitement over the breakthroughs these tools have enabled in biology and medicine is balanced, justifiably, by concern over how their applications might go wrong in open environments. We do not know how genomic processes (including regulatory and epigenetic processes), evolutionary change, ecosystem interactions, and other higher order processes will affect traits, fitness, and impacts of edited organisms in nature. However, anticipating the spread, change, and impacts of edited traits or organisms in heterogeneous, changing environments is particularly important with “gene drives on the horizon.” To anticipate how “synthetic threads” will affect the web of life on Earth, scientists must confront complex system interactions across many levels of biological organization. Currently, we lack plans, infrastructure, and funding for field science and scientists to track new synthetic organisms, with or without gene drives, as they move through open environments.

Purpose – This paper aims to present a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of studies in Brazil with applications of multivariate control charts indexed in journals on the Web of Science. Design/methodology/approach – The following steps were carried out: a detailed synthesis was performed on the general characteristics of the corpus, co-citation and collaboration networks analyzed; and a co-occurrence of terms in the text corpus was verified. A Systematic Literature Review was carried out using the protocols set out by Biolchini et al. (2007), Kitchenham (2004) and Tranfield, Denyer and Smart (2003). Papers were selected from the Web of Science database, and after applying filters, results for 29 articles were given to compose the corpus. Findings – A tendency was found for an increase in publications, along with more international research on the issue. The journal most used for publication was the Microchemical Journal. This analysis provided relevant authors for research in this area: Harold Hotelling, Douglas Montgomery, and John Frederick MacGregor. Important Brazilian researchers were highlighted who work mainly in the pharmaceutical and biodiesel industry. Originality/value – No articles were found that had carried out a Systematic Literature Review of Brazilian research on multivariate control charts. The main contributions to this manuscript related to an increase in scientific know-how in the area of multivariate and bibliometric analysis. Keywords - Multivariate Control Charts. This chapter explores the concept of life across traditions, from science to philosophy to theology. The term “life” covers at least three constellations of meaning or life-concepts: biological life, internal life, and rational life. Biological life shares traits with all cellular life on Earth (archaea, eubacteria, and eukarya). Internal or conscious life shares subjective interiority with humans. Rational life shares intellect with all minds that can distinguish truth from non-truth. These three lives possess different origins, extents, and futures. The chapter then identifies three distinct “hard problems of life” relating to the origin and extent of biological organization, consciousness, and reason: moving from non-life to life, from life to sentience, and from sentience to rationality. The Drake equation, the Fermi paradox, and the anthropic principle provide concrete examples in astrobiology.

<p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-US">Searching for information on the Internet is not only an activity newly rediscovered, but also a strategic tool to achieve a wide variety of information. Indeed, it’s extremely important to know how to find the information quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, the Web is so huge and so little structured, that gathering precise, fair and useful information becomes an expensive task. In order to define an information retrieval tool (meta search engine) that brings together multiple sources of information search, interest must be credited to the merger phase of search engines results. On the other hand, information search systems tend primarily to model the user with a profile and then to integrate it into the information access chain, to better meet its specific needs. </span></p><p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-US">This paper presents a custom fusion method based on Borda method and values retrieved from the user profile. We evaluated our approach on multiple domains and we present some experimental results.</span></p>

Informational web sites on the World Wide Web (WWW) are another means for extension educators to transfer information to a clientele and provide access to new audiences. One of the problems inherent in the utilization of this new technology is the amount of effort required by those involved in order to become proficient enough to accomplish their goal of sharing information through a web site. Through the use of a HTML editor and the assistance from staff knowledgeable about the WWW, a web site on a main campus server was created by untrained off-campus personnel at a remote site to provide information on commercial vegetable production. Planning of the web site included targeting potential audiences, determining what information would be shared from the site, and building a team of extension and research personnel that would provide information and act as reviewers for web publications. Assistance in the form of graphics and general know how were supplied by departmental specialists. After development, the web site was maintained and refined on a regular basis through the utilization of the HTML editor and a web file transfer program.

Odor and olfaction anthropology explores four lines of research which, in many cases, may overlap: the variability of the olfactory perception, olfactory skills and know-how, odor use, and odor representations. My proposal here is to deal with the first one, trying to answer the following question: is olfactory perception a phenomenon resulting solely from the biological organization of the human being, in such a way that it does not know other variations than the ones due to nature? Or, on the contrary, can we show different kinds of olfaction culturally determined or, at least, environmental influences resulting in significant perceptual differences among groups, societies, cultures, etc.? In the first part of the text, I will deal with the invariants (or universals). In the second, I will insist on the cultural types of olfaction. In the third and last part, I will advance the following proposal: beyond the discussion on the roles that nature and culture play in human olfaction, we can sustain that naturally and culturally, there is a way of smelling characteristic of our species. Finally, I will conclude with two examples of the symbolic treatment characteristic of the olfactory human experience.

Web Content Management Using Wordpress, Canva and Photoshop for Teachers of the Jakarta Region The web is a tool that has been widely used to share information with the public. However, in managing the content, not a few parties who do not know how to do it well, including high school and vocational school teachers. Therefore, WordPress-based web content management training is applied to the teachers to assist them in running and managing the web. The training began with the provision of material on designing logos and banners using Photoshop and Canva, then practice how to register domains and training in making e-commerce with WordPress Content Management System. From the results of the training evaluation questionnaire, as many as 69% of participants were satisfied in delivering the material and 100% stated that web management training was needed to be learned and applied in schools.

"Water represents the essence of life on earth, so we must preserve and use responsibly this given resource. For many years, water treatment has been a field of continuous development. At the same time, new materials and techniques are being developed for one of the most important methods in water treatment: Reverse Osmosis (RO). Actual technology in this domain provided us with good know-how to reverse osmosis systems creation, simulation, and validation of the simulation results. Our duty is to bring value to this heritage with new specific cases where the known techniques will be used to create efficient models for water treatment by reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis is mainly a method for seawater desalination which started to be used more often in industrial applications for water and other product treatment. The focus of this study is to design and simulate a reverse osmosis system with the help of Q+ Projection software v3.1 for a 10 m3/h well water flow by using different types of membranes, in order to select an appropriate membrane which will provide the best parameters for permeate water. Permeate water resulted after reverse osmosis treatment will be used as process water for spirit drinks production. "

The BioJS community of developers currently provides a range of functionality that is open access and freely available.
