Abstract Alstonia angustiloba is a local tree species that have potential for community forest plantation; therefore, it is important to provide improved seeds. This study aimed to determine the diversity of growth, estimate the value of heritability, and the genetic correlation of the 4-years-old A. angustiloba progeny test. Randomized Completely Block Design with two factors (population and family) were used in this study. In this study, families are nested in the population. The population factors consisted of 4 levels, and family factors consisted of 43 families. The analysis of variance showed that height and stem diameter growth were significantly different between populations and families at four years old. The best height and stem diameter growth at the population level was obtained from the Pendopo population, 4.45 m and 7.71 cm, respectively. At the family level, the best height growth was obtained from 9 families (4.46-5.06 m), and the best stem diameter growth was obtained from 11 families (7.48-8.72 cm). The estimated individual heritability value for height was 0.41, and stem diameter was 0.23. Estimated family heritability values were 0.66 for height and 0.50 for stem diameter. The genetic correlation between height and stem diameter was 0.97.

A field experiment was carried out at the Horticulture Farm, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from November 2011 to February 2012 to study the effect of seed tuber size on the yield and quality of seven accessions of potato. The experiment was laid out in the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. This piece of research consisted of two factors namely, size of seed tubers i.e. three different size of seed tuber i.e. small (10-20 g), medium (21-30 g) and large (31-40 g) and seven accessions of potato i.e. AC10064, AC10076, AC10097, AC10109, AC10123, AC10190 and one check variety Cardinal. The size of individual plot was 1.8 m × 1.2 m. Two adjacent unit plots and blocks were separated by 0.5 m and 0.5 m. A spacing of 60 cm × 30 cm was also used in terms of planting. Data on different yield contributing characters and yield were recorded. The tallest plants were produced by the large size of seed tuber accession AC10109 (120.25 cm) which also took minimum time (6.10 days) to germinate and possessed maximum stem diameter (0.95 cm) while small seed tuber of Cardinal required maximum days (10.23 days) along with shortest height (60.22 cm) as well as stem diameter (0.65 cm). The large size seed tuber of accession AC10109 gave maximum number of main stems/hill (6.4) and small size of seed tuber variety Cardinal gave minimum number of main stems/hill (2.96). The large size of seed tuber accession AC10109 produced maximum number of compound leaves/hill (64.80) and the small size of seed tuber Cardinal produced minimum number of compound leaves/hill (35.74). In terms of yield character large size of seed tuber of AC10109 accession exhibited highest results in tuber number 9.60 with the average diameter of tubers (5.86 cm) and yield was 10.42 t/ha. In the Three Gorges reservoir region of China, Ficus microcarpa L. and Ficus virens Ait. var. sublanceolata (Miq.) Corner (Moraceae) are widely used in greening and ecological restoration following construction, including roads, railways, towns, etc. Branch cuttings are used for cultivating saplings of these trees. We conducted a 4 year experiment that included four branch-removal intensities to evaluate the influence of branch removal on stem height and diameter growth of these Ficus spp. It was found that branch removal did not affect the stem height growth of either F. microcarpa or F. virens, but decreased the growth of their stem basal diameters. The reduction in growth of stem basal diameter was intensified with branch removal. As expected, branch removal decreased the tapering of whole tree stems, but this effect was mainly due to the alteration of the shape of the bare stem part, and the shape of the stem part within the intact upper crown was not affected by the treatment. The data clearly showed that stem height growth was less sensitive than stem diameter growth to branch removal, and that the response of stem diameter growth to branch removal differed between bare and intact stem parts.

Genetic diversity in the growth of white jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba) provenance-progeny test: Comparing study in the nursery and field. Biodiversitas 20: 1325-1332. Results of the provenance-progeny test in seedling and field test of white jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba) at Parung Panjang, Bogor District, West Java Province, Indonesia are reported and discussed. Twelve provenances representing 105 families were tested in nursery and field using randomized complete block design. Seedling height, root collar diameter, sturdiness quotient, shoot dry weight, root dry weight and shoot-root ratio was measured at four months, while as the growth assessment was carried out on survival, height and stem diameter at the age of 2 and 4 years. The result showed that genetic variation was found to be higher among families within provenances than the variation among provenances for all parameters indicating the family effect had the highest contribution on the growth and survival. Based on family and provenance mean, most of the seedling parameters were significantly correlated with the others, but most of seedling parameters were not significantly correlated with plant growth at 2 and 4 years. The longitudinal cline was significantly correlated with shoot dry weight, root dry weight, and shoot-root ratio indicated that the white jabon seeding parameters in natural populations may have greater in humid (higher precipitation) than in drier locations. This was likely to suggest that the family or provenance selections based on seedling growth in the nursery may not be very effective because heritability of most growth variables is likely to be low.

The pepper is very important horticultural commodities. The purpose of this research was to study the advantagesof Anies IPB varieties and develop the description. Anies IPB was the result of the selection of segregating populations from the crosses of IPB C120 (as the female parent) and IPB C5 (as the male parent). The experiments were performed in four locations namely Boyolali (Central Java), Sumedang (West Java), and Bogor (West Java). The experimental used the randomized complete block design (RCBD) two factors with three replications. The replications nested within the locations. The first factor was 9 lines and 2 open pollinated varieties, and the second factor was the three locations. Each lines on each replicate in each location were planted 24 plants. The results showed that the superiority of Anies IPB varieties were (1) The productivity of Anies IPB was higher than the check varieties. Productivity can reach 18.6 tons ha-1. (2) Anies IPB has fruit that was longer than the Tit Super and Trisula. (3) Anies IPB has early-harvesting time, ranged between 76.67 - 84.67 days after planting. (4) Anies IPB has a high level of stability and classified into the dynamic stability, which means that veryadaptive to the optimum environment.Keyword: non hybrid, pepper productivity superiority, variety

This study aims to determine the growth response and Plant Production of Broccoli (Brassica oleracea Var. Botrytis) with application of Azolla composting in some plant spacing. This research used a Factorial Randomized Block Design with two factors namely: Azolla Composting Factor (A) with 4 levels 0, 32, 64, 96 and A4 = 128 g/plant. Plant spacing factor with 3 levels 45 cm x 45 cm, 50 cm x 50 cm and 55 cm x 55. The results showed that the application of Azolla compost 128 g/plant had significant effect on the stem height, stem diameter and flower weight. Plant spacing in 55 cm x 55 cm only affected the flower weight. There was no interaction between Azolla compost and plant spacing for all parameter observed.

The research objective is to find out genetic variation, estimated heritability value and the expected genetic gain of Samama [Anthocephalus macrophyllus (Roxb.) Havil.] on variation in  stem diameter and plant height as superior seed producers. The research was conducted in Uraur Village, West Seram Regency, Maluku Province. The trials consisted of 80 families. All of the trials were laid out in randomized complete block designs (RCBD), 4-trees plots with 4 replications (blocks) at spacing of 5m×2m. Data collection was carried out for 2 months (February to March 2020) and was focused on observing growth variations and genetic parameters in the progeny trial block at 4 years of age including plant height and diameter at breast height. The results of this study indicate that there are variations in growth, where the Anova test results show very significant differences in the plant height parameters namely Family (F = 3.417 p 0.01), Block (F = 437.465 p 0.01) and Family and Block Interactions (F = 3.351 p 0.01). The stem diameter parameters also showed very significant differences, namely Family (F = 2.785 p 0.01), Block (F = 353.095 p 0.01) and Family and Block Interaction (F = 2.611 p 0.01). The value of family heritability and individual heritability on plant height characters belonged to a high category with a family heritability value of 0.7213 and individual heritability value of 0.8811, while the stem diameter character for individual heritability was high with a value of 0.4406 but family heritability was moderate with value of 0.5204. The value of genetic correlation was high and positive and generally shows a greater value than the phenotypic correlation. Genetic correlation values ranged from 0.967 while phenotypic correlation values ranged from 0.8944. The highest selection priority was found in the height of the stem with a weight constant of 0.239. Predicted expected genetic gain was 3.0% for diameter parameter and 3.2% for height parameter.Objektif dari penelitian ini adalah menemukan variasi genetik, taksiran nilai heritabilitas serta peluang perolehan expected genetic gain tanaman Samama [Anthocephalus macrophyllus (Roxb.) Havil.] pada variasi diameter dan tinggi pohon sebagai penghasil benih unggul.  Penelitian dilakukan di Desa Uraur Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat Provinsi Maluku. Percobaan ini menggunakan 80 famili. Penelitian ini dibangun dengan desain randomized completely block design (RCBD), jarak tanam 5 x 2 m, 4 ulangan (blok) dan 4 treesplot. Pengumpulan data dilakukan selama 2 bulan (Februari sampai dengan bulan Maret 2020) memfokuskan pada pengamatan variasi pertumbuhan dan parameter genetik yang berada di blok uji keturunan pada umur 4 tahun meliputi tinggi dan diameter setinggi dada. Hasil Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat variasi pertumbuhan, dimana dari hasil uji Anova menunjukkan perbedaan sangat nyata pada parameter tinggi yaitu Famili (F=3,417 p0,01), Blok (F=437,465 p0,01) dan Interaksi Famili dan Blok (F=3,351 p0,01). Pada parameter diameter juga menunjukkan perbedaan sangat nyata yaitu Famili (F=2,785 p0,01), Blok (F=353,095 p0,01) dan Interaksi Famili dan Blok (F=2,611 p0,01). Nilai heritabilitas famili dan heritabilitas individu pada karakter tinggi tanaman memiliki kategori tinggi dengan nilai heritabilitas famili 0,7213 dan nilai heritabilitas individu 0,8811, sedangkan pada karakter diameter tanaman untuk heritabilitas individu tergolong tinggi dengan nilai sebesar 0,4406 namun heritabilitas famili tergolong sedang dengan nilai 0,5204. Nilai korelasi genetik bernilai tinggi dan positif serta secara umum menunjukkan nilai yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan korelasi fenotipik. Nilai korelasi genetik berkisar 0,967 sedangkan nilai korelasi fenotipiknya berkisar 0,8944. Prioritas seleksi tertinggi ditemukan pada tinggi batang dengan nilai konstanta bobot sebesar 0,239. Prediksi expected genetic gain diperoleh 3,0 % untuk parameter diameter dan 3,2 % untuk parameter tinggi.

It is important to develop a better understanding of the climatic and soil factors controlling the stem diameter growth of Qinghai spruce (Picea crassifolia Kom.) forest. The results will provide basic information for the scientific prediction of trends in the future development of forests. To explain the seasonal pattern of stem diameter growth of Qinghai spruce and its response to environmental factors in the Qilian Mountains, northwest China, the stem diameter changes of 10 sample trees with different sizes and soil and meteorological conditions were observed from May to October of 2015 and 2016. Our results showed that the growth initiation of the stem diameter of Qinghai spruce was on approximately 25 May 2015 and 20 June 2016, and stem diameter growth commenced when the average air and soil temperatures were more than 10 °C and 3 °C, respectively. The cessation of growth occurred on approximately 21 August 2015 and 14 September 2016, and it was probably controlled by soil moisture. Stem diameter growth began earlier, ended later, and exhibited a larger growth rate as tree size increased. For the period May–October, the cumulative stem diameter growth of individual trees was 400 and 380 μm in 2015 and 2016, respectively. The cumulative stem diameter growth had a clear seasonal pattern, which could be divided into three growth stages, i.e., the beginning (from day of year (DOY) 120 to the timing of growth initiation with the daily growth rate of less than 2 μm·day−1), rapid growth (from the timing of growth initiation to the timing of growth cessation with the daily growth rate of more than 2 μm·day−1), and ending stages (from the timing of growth cessation to DOY 300 with the daily growth rate of less than 2 μm·day−1). The correlation of daily stem growth and environmental factors varied with growth stages; however, temperature, vapor pressure deficit (VPD), and soil moisture were the key factors controlling daily stem diameter growth. Overall, these results indicated that the seasonal variation in stem growth was regulated by soil and climatic triggers. Consequently, changes in climate seasonality may have considerable effects on the seasonal patterns of both stem growth and tree growth.

Foliar injury symptoms and stem diameter growth were measured on well-watered and drought-stressed ponderosa pine (Pinusponderosa Dougl. ex Laws.) seedlings at the end of each of 3 years of exposure to three levels of ozone: charcoal-filtered air, nonfiltered air, and nonfiltered air plus 1.5 times ambient ozone. Ozone-injury indices were constructed by adding percent chlorotic mottle and percent necrosis for each needle age-class. Percent necrosis was weighted from 1 to 5 times to construct different indices. Seedlings grown in nonfiltered air plus 1.5 times ambient ozone developed severe foliar injury after 2 years of exposure and were the only seedlings with significant reductions in radial growth after three seasons of exposure to a mean seasonal ozone concentration of 88 ppb. Foliage that had developed >30% chlorotic mottle by September of the 2nd year had abscised by September of the following year. Reduction in radial growth was significantly correlated with amount of foliar injury in well-watered trees, and the best-fit regression equation occurred when percent necrosis was weighted by a factor of 4. Regressions between foliar-injury indices and radial growth in drought-stressed trees were not significant, nor were regressions between radial growth and foliar injury among well-watered trees with only 1 year of premature needle abscission. The low R2 (0.30) between foliar injury and radial growth in well-watered trees and the lack of a significant regression in drought-stressed trees suggest that detection of reductions in stem diameter growth of ponderosa pine in the field in response to ozone injury could be difficult, except for severely injured trees with fewer than 2 years of foliar retention.
