AbstractAging involves a transition from youthful vigor to geriatric infirmity and death. To study the relationship between youthful vigor and lifespan, we developed a new version of “the lifespan machine” that can simultaneously measure age-associated changes in behavior and lifespan at high precision in large populations. Across diverse interventions, we find that behavioral aging and lifespan are not parsimoniously explained as manifestations of a single underlying aging process. Instead, the correlation between youthful vigor and lifespan is better explained as the result of two partially independent aging processes that progress during adulthood under the influence of a shared, systemic factor. Our model provides a framework for separating the direct, targeted effects of lifespan-altering interventions from their broad, systemic effects—supporting future efforts in the rational design of clinical interventions in aging.

В статье представлены материалы о взаимосвязи продолжительности продуктивного использования коров с характеристикой устойчивости к деградации, с возрастом отела и удоем. В исследованной, разнородной по происхождению, группе животных для прогноза продуктивного периода коров, обусловленного устойчивостью к деградации и возрастом первого отела, пригодно уравнение регрессии, аргументами в котором являются индекс устойчивости, возраст первого отела в первой и второй степенях. Коэффициент корреляции межу предсказанными значениями продуктивного периода и его фактическими величинами в I группе составляет 0,502, во II - 0,604. При этом крайние варианты прогнозируются со статистическими ошибками 5 мес при оценке индекса устойчивости по 2 лактациям и 4,1 мес по 3, а средние варианты, соответственно, 1,6 и 1,51 мес. Индекс устойчивости к процессу старения является важной характеристикой биологических особенностей коров, определяющий их продуктивное долголетие. Его оценка по первым 2 и 3 лактациям имеет прямолинейную связь с продуктивным периодом (r=0,4109 и r=0,5270), соответственно. Зависимость продуктивного периода от возраста первого отела криволинейная — с увеличением возраста первого отела сокращается срок продуктивного использования, при возрасте первого отела более 1400 дней срок продуктивного использования колеблется от 1,33 до 1,41 лактации. Коэффициент корреляции между этими характеристиками коров составляет - 0,2164 в I и - 0,2620 во II группах. The article presents materials about the relationship of the duration of productive use of cows with the characteristic of resistance to degradation, with the age of calving and milk yield. In the studied group of animals, which is heterogeneous in origin, the regression equation is suitable for predicting the productive period of cows due to resistance to degradation and the age of the first calving, the arguments of which are the stability index, the age of the first calving in the first and second degrees. The correlation coefficient between the predicted values of the productive period and its actual values in group I is 0.502, in group II - 0.604. At the same time, the extreme variants are predicted with statistical errors of 5 months when evaluating the stability index for 2 lactations and 4.1 months for 3, and the average variants, respectively, are 1.6 and 1.51 months. The index of resistance to the aging process is an important characteristic of the biological characteristics of cows, which determines their productive longevity. Its estimate for the first 2 and 3 lactations has a direct relationship with the productive period (r=0.4109 and r=0.5270), respectively. The dependence of the productive period age at first calving curvilinear with increasing age at first calving reduces the time to productive use, while age at first calving of more than 1400 days, the period of productive use ranges from 1.33 to 1.41 lactation. The correlation coefficient between these characteristics of cows is-0.2164 in I and-0.2620 in II groups.

This study was designed to explore the relationship between sunlight exposure and the mechanical properties of paragliding fabrics which have different colors, densities, yarn counts, and coating materials. This study exposed 5 different colors of paragliding fabrics (red, turquoise, dark blue, orange, and white) to intense sunlight for 150 hours during the summer from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for 5 days a week for 5 weeks. Before and after the UV radiation aging process, the air permeability, tensile strength, tear strength, and bursting strength tests were performed. Test results were also evaluated using statistical methods. According to the results, the fading of the turquoise fabric was found to be the highest among the studied fabrics. It was determined that there is a significant decrease in the mechanical properties of the fabrics after sunlight exposure. After aging, the fabrics become considerably weaker in the case of mechanical properties due to the degradation in both the dyestuff and macromolecular structure of the fiber

AbstractCytochromes bd are ubiquitous amongst prokaryotes including many human-pathogenic bacteria. Such complexes are targets for the development of antimicrobial drugs. However, an understanding of the relationship between the structure and functional mechanisms of these oxidases is incomplete. Here, we have determined the 2.8 Å structure of Mycobacterium smegmatis cytochrome bd by single-particle cryo-electron microscopy. This bd oxidase consists of two subunits CydA and CydB, that adopt a pseudo two-fold symmetrical arrangement. The structural topology of its Q-loop domain, whose function is to bind the substrate, quinol, is significantly different compared to the C-terminal region reported for cytochromes bd from Geobacillus thermodenitrificans (G. th) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). In addition, we have identified two potential oxygen access channels in the structure and shown that similar tunnels also exist in G. th and E. coli cytochromes bd. This study provides insights to develop a framework for the rational design of antituberculosis compounds that block the oxygen access channels of this oxidase.

The appropriate iteration process model is the basis for managing and optimizing the product development process. In this article, we attempt to introduce the concept of process effectiveness and process value. The relationship between rework probability and process effectiveness is discussed. The evolution function of process effectiveness is proposed to drive the overlapped iteration process of multi-coupled activities. The evolution process with input information update is studied, and a simulation model is presented to obtain the accurate iteration process of development. It is useful to analyze the risks during development, and has good flexibility and versatility. The calculation method of process value for overlapped iteration process is given, and an optimization model for product development process is provided. The model is used to improve the development process of the stamping die of a car roof. With the model, we can get a suitable overlapping rate of multi-coupled activities to improve development performance.

The relationship of communication satisfaction to job performance and turnover intention among employees was examined. Most communication satisfaction research has been conducted in relation to job satisfaction. However, there is a growing interest in the relationships between communication satisfaction, job performance, and turnover intention. The population examined in this study were employed in the top 500 service industries in Taiwan. The sample consisted of 1,260 individuals. A total of 467 valid responses were collected for a usable response rate of 37.1%. The results suggest that employees' perceptions of a high communication satisfaction are positively associated with their job performance, and negatively related to turnover intention.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced millions of students to stay indoors and adapt to the new normal, namely distance learning at home, placing online learning in the spotlight. However, students’ motivation for online learning and its effectiveness in skill development during the COVID-19 pandemic has not been widely studied. This study examined the relationship between students’ fear of COVID-19 and students’ social presence in online learning while investigating the parallel mediating role of student psychological motivation and cognitive problem-solving skills related to online learning. The participants were 472 university students in Malaysia and Pakistan. An online data collection technique using Google Forms was employed. Faculty members of the universities were asked to share the survey with their students. Moreover, using a snowball sampling technique, students were requested to share the survey with their friends. SPSS Statistics (Version 21)  was employed to do preliminary data analysis, AMOS (Version 21) software was used to conduct confirmatory factor analysis using a maximum likelihood estimation, and Hayes’ PROCESS model was used to examine proposed hypotheses. The results show that only cognitive problem solving mediates the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and students’ social presence in online learning in Malaysian samples. In Pakistan, cognitive problem solving and psychological motivation mediate the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and students’ social presence in online learning. The study found that developing cognitive problem-solving skills and providing psychological motivation could enhance their engagement with online learning.

High-precision reducer is the core component of industrial robots. In order to achieve the comprehensive performance testing of precision reducers, an instrument with a vertical layout and a cylindrical structure is designed. As a rotating machine, the inevitable coupling misalignment of the instrument can lead to vibration faults which lead to errors in the test. So it is pretty necessary to diagnose and monitor the coupling misalignment while the instrument is working. The causes of the coupling misaligned fault of the instrument and the relationship between the misalignment fault and torque ripple are analyzed in this paper. A method of using the torque transducer in the measurement chain of the instrument to diagnose the coupling misalignment is proposed in this paper. Many experiments have been done to test the capability of detecting the coupling misalignment using this method. Experimental results show that the amplitude of torque ripple of the shaft is linearly related to the coupling misalignment and is quadratically related to the rotation speed of the shaft when the misalignment exists in the shaft. The combination of components at the rotation frequency (fr) and the additional components can be used to diagnose faults due to coupling misalignment.

<i>Helicobacter pylori</i> (<i>H. pylori</i>) is one of the most common pathogens that can cause certain gastrointestinal disorders, such as gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric cancer. Recently, interest in the systemic effects of <i>H. pylori</i> on extragastric manifestations is increasing. Representative diseases include hematologic, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, autoimmune, dermatologic, allergic, hepatobiliary, and metabolic diseases. Among them, since the prevalence of metabolic diseases is on the rise worldwide, the relationship between <i>H. pylori</i> infection and metabolic diseases has become an interesting research issue. Many studies have been conducted to clarify any association. However, the results of those studies still remain controversial. This review focuses on recently published studies to investigate the relationship between <i>H. pylori</i> infection and metabolic diseases, including diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and their associated pathophysiology.

Process analytics involves the relationship between the doctor, diagnostic centers and patient. The primary advantages of using process analytics in healthcare are expert guidance, global medical assistance, and possible alternate treatment mechanisms. The secondary advantages are the analysis of the same type of disease complications and the creation of a disease-based healthcare data repository. This chapter focuses on the process model-based approach for healthcare analytics. The two emerging techniques Big data and IoT are needed to be incorporated with the process model for storing and analyzing the healthcare data. The first category assists administrators with identifying areas to streamline operations and concretely increase savings. Research and development are crucial aspects of healthcare, providing new innovative solutions and treatments that can be properly tracked, measured, and analyzed.

How can informed consent be integrated into the physician-patient relationship in a manner that is respectful of both the idea of informed consent and the imperatives of clinical care? A realistic answer to that question could, we believe, remove much of the resistance of many healthcare professionals to the idea of informed consent. This chapter’s goal is to offer a practical procedural framework within which clinicians can operate to facilitate patients’ decision making in a manner that meets both these desiderata. The interactions of physicians and patients in making decisions about medical treatment can be conceptualized in two ways. Decision making can be approached as an event that occurs at a single point in time (an “event model”), or it can be viewed as a continuous element of the relationship between patients and their caregivers (a “process model”). The implications of these different ways of conceptualizing decisions about treatment are quite profound, rooted as they are in distinct visions of the relationship between physicians and patients. The event model of informed consent is predicated on a relatively simple paradigm. A patient seeking medical care approaches a physician for assistance. After assessing the patient’s condition, the physician reaches a diagnosis and formulates a recommended plan of treatment. The physician’s conclusions and recommendations are presented to the patient, along with information concerning the risks and potential benefits of the proposed treatment, and possible alternatives and their risks and potential benefits. Weighing the available data, the patient reflects on the relative risks and benefits of each course of action and then selects the medically acceptable alternative that most closely fits the patient’s particular values. On the surface at least, the event model conforms well to the legal requirements for informed consent. The event model emphasizes the provision of full and accurate information to patients at the time of decision making. Consent forms are often used for this purpose; indeed, the consent form can be said to be the central symbol of the event model (see Chapter 9). Patients’ understanding, although desirable in the abstract, is less crucial to this model than is the provision of information.
