The concept of feeding standards for farm livestock has developed in Europe during the last two centuries (Tyler, 1975). During that time, and in the light of both experimental findings and on-farm observations, feeding standards have continued to evolve both in concept and detail. Such developments are exemplified in the recent publications by the Agricultural Research Council (1980), Hagemeister and Kaufmann (1974), Burroughs, Trenkle and Vetter (1974), and Jarrige, Journet and Vérité (1978) containing new proposals for the evaluation of dietary protein for ruminants. In view of these developments, the time is right to consider the adoption of a new protein system in nutritional advisory work.

Contraction of Indonesia's production sectors in 1998 as economic crisis impacts, have not been occurred on Farm, Livestock, Forestry and Fisheries sector and Electricity, Gas and Water sector. Particularly on Farm, Livestock, Forestry and Fisheries sector is interesting that the sector have been gave a second big contribution on Indonesia GDP less than Manufacturing sector, meanwhile most Indonesia citizen are farmer. On the other word, this sector is the Indonesia economy base.We have not said yet that Indonesia's citizen as prosperous as before crisis. Because, nor the sector it self and its agents would not live 'alone' and need others sector's commodities. It could be said, that linkage with the other sectors is high.The aim of this is to observe the agricultural household income, pre and post economic crisis, that we have used Indonesia SAM table 1995, 1998 and 1999 and multiplier decomposition analysis.Analysis result of SAM table explains a big shock of economic activity on agricultural household particularly on farm workers household and farmer landowner 0-0,5 Ha households. Although on 1998 agricultural household is worse than condition before, the prospect of recovery has been seen on income condition and agricultural household expenditure on SAM 1999 observation.Multiplier analysis on SAM table indicate that from 1995 to 1999 the sock of economic activities by agricultural household less than non-agricultural household. In fact, economic crisis did not give significant impact on agricultural household, however the recovery of agricultural household is sluggish. The result shows that from 1995 to 1999 agricultural household is consistent, mainly on farmer land owner 0-0,5 Ha household and farmer worker household.

The adoption of a proper traceability system is being incorporated into meat production practices as a method of gaining consumer confidence. The various partners operating in the chain of meat production can be considered a social network, and they have the common goal of generating a communication process that can ensure each characteristic of the product, including safety. This study aimed to select the most appropriate meat traceability system “from farm to fork” that could be applied to Brazilian beef and pork production for international trade. The research was done in three steps. The first used the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) for selecting the best on-farm livestock traceability. In the second step, the actors in the meat production chain were identified to build a framework and defined each role in the network. In the third step, the selection of the traceability system was done. Results indicated that with an electronic traceability system, it is possible to acquire better connections between the links in the chain and to provide the means for managing uncertainties by creating structures that facilitate information flow more efficiently.

ABSTRAKProduksi pertanian yang dihasilkan belum dihasilkan dari produksi potensial. Produksi yang dihasilkan masih produksi minimal yang sebenarnya dapat ditingkatkan secara maksimal. Keterbatasan dijumpai pada aspek hulu dan hilir sistim peternakan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui permasalahan, kebutuhan dan potensi pengembangan peternakan di kabupaten Tambrauw. Penelitian deskriptif dengan teknik wawancara dan observasi di Distrik Sausapor dilakukan terhadap delapan informan kunci. Pertanyaan difokuskan pada permasalahan, kebutuhan dan potensi sumberdaya alam yang dimiliki oleh peternak. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif naratif dan disajikan dalam bentuk cause-effect diagram, tabulasi dan gambar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat persoalan dasar yaitu rendahnya pelatihan, tidak adanya pos pelayanan pertanian terpadu, sumberdaya manusia pada instansi teknis yang kurang, dan minimnya data potensi sumberdaya alam. Pengembangan masyarakat pelaku usahatani peternakan menjadi sentral isu dalam hal pemberdayaan/pembinaan. Sarana dan prasarana menjadi strategis untuk dikembangkan seperti kantor pos pelayanan pertanian terpadu (P3T). Sumberdaya petugas penyuluh dan tenaga teknis seperti inseminator, dokter hewan dan tenaga paramedis diprogramkan oleh Dinas Peternakan. Pembibitan Hijauan Pakan Ternak perlu dikembangkan bersamaan dengan itu klinik pembibitan ternak menjadi rekomendasi jangka menengah.ABSTRACTAgricultural yields do not produce from farming yields potential yet. It is lower production, which can optimally be increased. Limiting factors are hampering off-farm and on-farm livestock farming systems. The objective of doing this research is to keen on constraints, needs and developing potency in Tambrauw regency. The finding of this research was that the regency has potency in developing livestock farming. This can be done by adapting the development of livestock farming based on the land characteristic. Community development becomes central issues in the case of community empowering. Infrastructures become strategic in further development, such as integrated agricultural service office. The local government shall prepare human resources, such as extension officers, inseminators, veterinarians, and paramedics. The community will recommend forage seeds need to be developed and veterinary clinic in the middle term period.

SummaryIn this article an on-farm monitoring approach on udder health is presented. Monitoring of udder health consists of regular collection and analysis of data and of the regular evaluation of management practices. The ultimate goal is to manage critical control points in udder health management, such as hygiene, body condition, teat ends and treatments, in such a way that results (udder health parameters) are always optimal. Mastitis, however, is a multifactorial disease, and in real life it is not possible to fully prevent all mastitis problems. Therefore udder health data are also monitored with the goal to pick up deviations before they lead to (clinical) problems. By quantifying udder health data and management, a farm is approached as a business, with much attention for efficiency, thought over processes, clear agreements and goals, and including evaluation of processes and results. The whole approach starts with setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic, Time-bound) goals, followed by an action plan to realize these goals.
