The 3DRedact project’s main objective is the development of a non-destructive assay (NDA) system that can replace emission computer tomography (ECT) and transmission computer tomography (TCT) for the routine characterization of decayed radioactive waste 220 liters drums. The existing fast NDA scan system has been extended with a transmission system that fulfils the requirements of fast scan measurements. The design parameters and engineering are described. As a consequence of this extension the analyze program HOLIS had to be updated, so that HOLIS can make full advantage of the transmission data generated by the analysis of a 220 liters waste drum, containing different super compacted drums. The achievements of the new HOLIS version are presented. As a first assessment, based on the presented tests results, the accuracy of the calculated coordinates of hotspots can be assessed for all coordinates ± 1 cm and for the activity of the hot-spot ± 5%. These accuracies are within the predefined requirements e.g. coordinates uncertainty ± 2 cm and activity less than 10%. Further, additional safety systems have been installed to improve a healthy and save working environment.

High-resolution X-ray computer tomography (microCT) is a well-established technique to analyse three-dimensional microstructures in 3D non-destructive imaging. The non-destructive three-dimensional analysis of lichens is interesting for many reasons. The examination of hidden structural characteristics can, e.g., provide information on internal structural features (form and distribution of fungal-supporting tissue/hypha), gas-filled spaces within the thallus (important for gas exchange and, thus, physiological processes), or yield information on the symbiont composition within the lichen, e.g., the localisation and amount of additional cyanobacteria in cephalodia. Here, we present the possibilities and current limitations for applying conventional laboratory-based high-resolution X-ray computer tomography to analyse lichens. MicroCT allows the virtual 3D reconstruction of a sample from 2D X-ray projections and is helpful for the non-destructive analysis of structural characters or the symbiont composition of lichens. By means of a quantitative 3D image analysis, the volume of internal cephalodia is determined for Lobaria pulmonaria and the external cephalodia of Peltigera leucophlebia. Nevertheless, the need for higher-resolution tomography for more detailed studies is emphasised. Particular challenges are the large sizes of datasets to be analysed and the high variability of the lichen microstructures.

Abstract Through Silicon Via (TSV) is the most promising technology for vertical interconnection in novel three-dimensional chip architectures. Reliability and quality assessment necessary for process development and manufacturing require appropriate non-destructive testing techniques to detect cracks and delamination defects with sufficient penetration and imaging capabilities. The current paper presents the application of two acoustically based methods operating in the GHz-frequency band for the assessment of the integrity of TSV structures.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of X-rays used in micro X-ray computer tomography (µXCT) on the mechanical performance and microstructure of a variety of dental materials. Standardised bending beams (2 × 2 × 25 mm3) were forwarded to irradiation with an industrial tomograph. Using three-dimensional datasets, the porosity of the materials was quantified and flexural strength was investigated prior to and after irradiation. The thermal properties of irradiated and unirradiated materials were analysed and compared by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Single µXCT measurements led to a significant decrease in flexural strength of polycarbonate with acrylnitril-butadien-styrol (PC-ABS). No significant influence in flexural strength was identified for resin-based composites (RBCs), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and zinc phosphate cement (HAR) after a single irradiation by measurement. However, DSC results suggest that changes in the microstructure of PMMA are possible with increasing radiation doses (multiple measurements, longer measurements, higher output power from the X-ray tube). In summary, it must be assumed that X-ray radiation during µXCT measurement at high doses can lead to changes in the structure and properties of certain polymers.

A B S T R A C TScurvy is a rare case found in many countries, but it is often found in refugeeareas, especially in Africa. Vitamin C deficiency varies based on season and occursmore in men with age. The purpose of this research is to avoid misdiagnosis so thatit can be a reference in the field of medicine to diagnose and provide management onscurvy. This prospective research was conducted with one sample of research.Observation had been carried out for two months, starting at one month after thepatient was suspected with the diagnosis of scurvy. Computer Tomography (CT) Scanlumbosacral to pelvic results were normal. Laboratory test of HB result was 9.5 g/dl,in which MCV was 63.2 fL, MCH was 20.3 pg, and MCHC was 32.1 g/dl. Scurvytreatment in the first visit was 3x1 tablets vitamin C, 3x5 ml ibuprofen Syr, andphysiotherapy. The results were that the patient still suffered swollen and bleedinggums, but the pain no longer existed, pale, behavioural disorders, unable to walk,and pain in both knees. After the second visit, the child got therapy of 4x50 mg vitaminC, 1x1 tablets vitamin B12, 1x150 IU vitamin E, 1x1 tablets cavit D3, andphysiotherapy. After two weeks of treatment, there were no complaints of swelling,painful or bleeding gums. The child could straighten her legs, but she was still unableto walk due to the trauma of feeling great pain while walking. Special attention isrequired to diagnose appropriately so the doctor can minimize and preventcomplications.
