Establishing a correlation between friction performance and tribolayer formation using engineered mineral fibres

Abstract This paper relates the friction performance to the tribolayer formation when using engineered mineral fibers in the friction formulation. A non-asbestos organic non-steel copper-free passenger car-disc pad (NAO) non-steel Cu-free PC-DP) formulation is used to investigate the impact of the fibers on the third body formation and its influence on performance and wear. Full scale dynamometer performance (AK-Master) test results show the pronounced effect of the fiber length on the friction performance. While a similar overall coefficient of friction (CoF) of around 0.33 is observed in all 3 cases, more stable friction behavior is observed for the longer fibers , with less variation. This behaviour is even more observed in the fade and high temperature sections. Especially the use of fibre spheres shows quite some unique features over the other tested mineral fibers, especially with respect to pad / disc wear. To understand these differences in performance, the transfer layer and tribolayer on the disc and brake pad are investigated respectively by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Formulations showing excellent performance results so far show the formation of a smooth transfer film on the disc. No grooves are visible and a continuous iron oxide layer is formed at the surface. The tribolayer of the corresponding brake pads nicely shows the formation of a compacted thin layer at the surface. In addition, the importance of mineral fibers in the formulation is highlighted, as they are at the core of the tribolayer formation. This work is a step forward towards understanding the role of mineral fibers in a friction formulation and shows its importance towards reducing non-exhaust emissions.

Current research in psychology and psychophysiology focuses on the subject of anticipation and forecasting. Anticipatory sustainability is a personal trait that determines the ability to anticipate events and possible ways of personal development, as well as the ability to prevent interpersonal conflicts. The aim of the study was to identify the role of development level of anticipatory competence of coaches in their professional competence evaluation and perception by athletes. Research methods and organization. The research involved two groups of test subjects. The experimental group consisted of sport dance coaches and their students. The control group brought together experts in socionomic area with different work experience. We used testing and questionnaire methods to achieve the goal and objectives of the study. Testing method included the test for diagnosing anticipatory sustainability according to A. Mendelevich and the test of socio-perceptual coaching evaluation by athletes. We used the results of testing and questionnaires to provide a comparative and correlation analysis of data. Research results. The analysis of test results revealed the impact of work experience on the development of both spatial and temporal characteristics of the anticipation of coaches, indicating a possible effect on the intensity and direction of development of those characteristics in specific conditions. We have identified valid connections between the gnostic parameter (professional competence evaluation) of the socio-perceptual coaching evaluation by athletes and spatiotemporal characteristics of coaches' anticipation, defined as professionally important qualities of coaches. Moreover, we have demonstrated a weak direct relationship between the personality-situational component of the anticipatory sustainability of coaches and the emotional parameter of their socio-perceptual evaluation by athletes, indicating a significant role of communicative-anticipation sustainability in the development of an attitude of athletes to the coach. Conclusion. In summary, we can conclude that the anticipatory sustainability of coaches plays a key role in the structure of their competence, and the development of this property is possible under certain conditions.

This paper studies the role of publishing and patenting activities as predictors of new product development for a sample of companies in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry. The research also examines the relation between new product development and firm performance. Hypotheses are developed based on the well-established absorptive capacity literature. The results show that publishing scientific articles and stock of patents are both significant predictors of the number of new molecular entities (NMEs) for which a firm receives approval. In addition, the degree to which a firm builds on its own technology (measured as self-citations in its patents) also predicts NMEs, but the regression coefficient had an unexpected negative sign. Finally, the performance results confirm that the approval of NMEs is significantly associated with the market-to-book ratio of a firm. The managerial implications of these findings and study limitations are also discussed.

The role of education is to improve the quality of education, especially in producing high-quality students. High-quality students are those who are able to think critically, creatively, logically and take initiatives in responding to issues in society caused by the impact of the development of science and technology. This study aims to determine the effect of a scientific approach to students' critical thinking skills. This study is an experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this study consisted of one class (28 students), which was treated using a scientific approach. Critical thinking skills are measured using a test instrument and then analyzed statistically (t test). Hypothesis test results indicate that there is an effect of using a scientific approach toward students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract Web-based portals enable patients to access their electronic health records, including test results and clinical documents, from anywhere with Internet access. Some portals also serve as a means of two-way communication between patients and healthcare professionals and provide a platform for the recording of patient-entered data such as home blood pressure readings. Such systems are designed to encourage patient participation in the management of their condition, and ultimately to increase patient empowerment and self-management, which are associated with improved clinical outcomes. As an example of portal use in patients with renal conditions, we discuss the PatientView portal, which is offered free of cost to patients under the care of renal physicians in the UK. We present an account of its various features and briefly describe the user experience. Previous studies examining the impact of this portal on patient care have been very positive; it appears to be popular among users and overall levels of satisfaction with the service are high. As the use of patient portals increases, we discuss barriers to the more widespread use of portals. We offer suggestions on how the care of patients with renal conditions can be enhanced in the future by further developing the existing features, learning from experiences of other patient portals and providing better integration of portal use into the current model of care.

The friction and wear behavior of coated rubber components is strongly dependent on the substrate properties. This work deals with the impact of the crosslink density, i.e., the hardness of the rubber substrate on the tribological performance of uncoated and coated rubber. The hardness of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) is varied altering the sulfur content. Both the uncoated and coated rubber samples are characterized in terms of surface and mechanical properties. Tribological tests comprise the examination of the macroscopic contact area and the temperature in the contact zone. It was found that the functional layer enhances the wear resistance significantly. Apparently, the wear and friction behavior of the coated rubber correlates with the hardness and the bulk properties of the substrate material.

In order to reduce the cost of producing metal cord in the hardware shops of OJSC “BSW” – the Management Company of the Holding “BMC”, work is underway to modernize and select materials for replaceable technological equipment. In the process of twisting the metal cord on the unwinding of the power coils of rope machines, brake devices are used, consisting of a disk and sectors (pads) fixed in a chain. The elements of the unwinding unit are in constant contact, providing the necessary tension force for unwinding a thin wire. The performance of the braking devices affects the manufacturability of the twist, the absence of breaks, the density and geometric arrangement of the wires in the twisted metal cord that meets the requirements of consumers.Due to constant contact friction at high linear speeds, the brake pads wear out, which leads to emergency operation of the equipment. The article considers the test results of the modified thin wire unwinding unit and the impact of modernization on the service life of brake pads.

The aim of the study was to find out the impact of Achievement motivation, self efficacy on employee performance moderated by organizational culture, and mediated by learning. Data was collected from 150 employees. Results indicated that Achievement motivation and self-efficacy has positive and significant effect on employee performance. Results also indicated that learning has a partially mediation effect between achievement motivation, self- efficacy and employee performance .The organizational culture also moderated the relationship between achievement motivation, self-efficacy and learning. Hence, the combined effect of achievement motivation, self-efficacy and organizational culture enhanced the learning of employees, which in return increased the effectiveness of their performance.

It shows the methods of machining and finishing of the brake pads surface and their influence on noise emission and performance. It shows the brake dynamometer test results obtained on three brake pads which have three different types of surface modification and their detailed analysis and comparison.

The present study aims to investigate the impact of thermal energy storage aggregate (TESA) and nano-titanium (NT) on properties of structural concrete. TESA was made of scoria encapsulated with phase change materials (PCMs). Coarse aggregates were replaced by TESA at 100% by volume of aggregate and NT was added at 5% by weight of cement. Compressive strength, probability of corrosion, thermal performance, and microstructure properties were studied. The results indicated that the presence of TESA reduced the compressive strength of concrete, although the strength was still high enough to be used as structural concrete. The use of TESA significantly improved the thermal performance of concrete, and slightly improved the resistance of corrosion in concrete. The thermal test results showed that TESA concrete reduces the peak temperature by 2 °C compared to the control. The addition of NT changed the microstructure of concrete, which resulted in higher compressive strength. Additionally, the use of NT further enhanced the thermal performance of TESA concrete by reducing the probability of corrosion remarkably. These results confirmed the crucial role of NT in improving the permeability and the thermal conductivity of mixtures containing PCM. In other words, the charging and discharging of TESA was enhanced with the presence of NT in the mixture.

Purpose To react quickly and to be flexible to respond to environmental uncertainty, working in teams is preferable. However, leadership must be decentralised for effective team performance. This paper aims to examine the impact of shared leadership on team performance through team reflexivity with task complexity. Design/methodology/approach To test the hypothesised relationships, a quantitative research design with purposive sampling technique was used. Data were gathered from employees working in teams. A total of 351 valid responses were analysed via SPSS PROCESS macro. Findings The findings signify that shared leadership positively impacts team reflexivity, which, in turn, has a significant impact on team performance. Results also revealed that team reflexivity strongly affects team performance in the presence of shared leadership and complex tasks. Originality/value Research related to effective team performance is scarce. Similarly, a review of a recently published article revealed that team reflexivity could work as a mediating mechanism in the relationship between shared leadership and effective team performance. Moreover, the concept of task complexity in the existing literature is scattered and needs to be integrated.
