Abstract By combining the reasoning design of the expert system with the analysis and calculation of spring based on a mathematical model and its optimal design, an intelligent spring CAD system has been established. The expert system technique is adopted for such non-calculating designing steps as the selection of scheme, the determination of parameters as well as for the development of the technological process, thus greatly strengthening the original CAD system of springs. This paper provides a detailed description of the function, structure, characteristic features and significance of the said system.

The publication presents the results of an analysis of the dynamics of changes in surface water quality in the Lower Volga basin based on the processing of statistical data on monitoring the degree of pollution over a long period. Significant all-season excesses of the maximum permissible norms for the concentration in water of a whole spectrum of background and anthropogenic pollutants were recorded. Deficiencies in the implementation of existing methods have been identified that make it possible to assess the dynamics of changes in the state of the ecosystem of the water basin and select the most significant parameters for constructing a mathematical model for choosing the most effective wastewater treatment technology. The aim of this work is to select and evaluate the input parameters of a mathematical model, the implementation of which will ensure the search for optimal technology and appropriate technical means of surface wastewater treatment. This research is based on a comprehensive assessment of a wide range of hydrochemical indicators of pollution of discharged wastewater in controlled sites using statistical methods for processing observational data. The most significant parameters have been identified that allow the formation of a conceptual model, and the degree of their influence on the selection of optimal means and methods of wastewater treatment has been determined.

The paper deals with the mathematical model of the multi-layer wall containing the phase change material (PCM). The model utilizes the effective heat capacity method for modeling the latent heat of phase change and the control volume method is used for the discretization of the model. The utilization of the model is then demonstrated on the problem of the optimal design of the multi-layer wall with the PCM. The TMY2 data for the city of Brno were used in simulations as operational conditions. The main attention is aimed at the determination of the optimal thickness of the PCM layer for the multi-layer wall design with various thicknesses of the masonry.

This article discusses the determination of the optimal design allowances for a full factorial experiment in the development of special-purpose clothing for patients with thermal injuries in a hospital. To assess the ergonomic performance of special-purpose clothing, was used of pressure exerted by clothing on the human body. Based on the results of the study, a mathematical model was developed based on a full factorial experiment. In accordance with the presented mathematical models, the minimum values of contact pressures are obtained for the following values of construction parameters: for a cut with a sewn-in sleeve Warmhole = 15 cm, Ifa = 5,0 cm, Ic = 9 cm, Hse = 10 cm; for a cut with a raglan sleeve Warmhole = 15 cm, Ifa = 6 cm, Ic = 10 cm; for a cut with a one-piece sleeve Warmhole = 16 cm, Ifa = 6 cm, Ic = 11 cm.

Modernization of the Ukrainian economy under the influence of global post-industrial trends mainstreams the priority of development of science-intensive, high-tech, innovative activities. Modernization creates the preconditions for strengthening competitive positions in the national and global markets. In modern conditions, the issue of assessing the competitiveness of catering companies is relevant. High competitiveness of the enterprise is the main condition of its activity and development. The purpose of the study is to assess the competitiveness of catering companies in the market of catering services in Ukraine. The study proposes methodological approaches to assessing the competitiveness of catering companies. Methodological approaches include continuity of monitoring, determination of parameters, indicators and criteria, selection of optimal evaluation methods. In the process of research the following methods were used: sociological survey, simple ranking, integrated assessment and factor method, system approach method. It was established that methodical approaches to assessing the competitiveness of catering companies include justification and development of a system of socio-economic indicators and criteria (product quality, quality of service, quality and organizational staff, efficiency, efficiency of personnel management, price). Methodological approaches include a set of indicators that form an integrated indicator of competitiveness. This indicator allows to consider objective differences in the dynamics of enterprises, the conditions of use of available resources in the process of forecasting and development of enterprises. A comprehensive diagnosis was carried out based on an integrated indicator of the competitiveness of restaurants on special orders (catering), during which it was determined that its level has a significant differentiation according to the indicators of the studied enterprises, which are due to both external and internal factors, which allows the development of strategic priorities and specific measures to develop the image of the enterprise and increase its competitiveness.

The chapter describes a brief history of the emergence of the theory of cellular automata, their main properties, and methods for constructing. The image skeletonization methods based on the Euler zero differential are described. The advantages of using hexagonal coverage for detecting moving objects in the image are shown. The software and hardware implementation of the developed methods are presented. Based on the obtained results, a hexagonal-coated cellular automata was developed to identify images of objects based on the Radon transform. The method and mathematical model of the selection of characteristic features for the selection of the skeleton and implementation on cellular automata with a hexagonal coating are described. The Radon transform allowed to effectively extract the characteristic features of images with a large percentage of noise. An experiment for different images with different noises was conducted. Experimental analysis showed the advantages of the proposed methods of image processing and extraction of characteristic features.

Firstly the optimum mathematical model of single steering trapezoid mechanism of vehicle was established gradually through selection of variables, setting constraints, determination of objective function. And then the optimum calculation is carried out with MATLAB programming in the case of EQ1092, and the problem occurring in actual operation that the optimum results changed with initial points was solved. In the end the further optimum research direction of this mechanism was intuitively pointed out through visualization and sensitivity analysis of results.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is the selection of production parameters in selective laser sintering – SLS for the production of quality products (e.g. good mechanical properties). The manufacturing procedure affects the properties, which is especially significant in additive procedures, as the products are not cheap and the procedure and material need to be optimally selected. Design/methodology/approach The paper presents an analysis of the fabrication parameters in selective laser sintering (SLS) that affect the flexural properties of the finished product. Findings The influence of a new parameter has been found, the overlay ratio, and using the mathematical and scheme method, the selection of parameters for obtaining the optimal flexural properties has been proposed. Originality/value The paper presents a new mathematical model for the calculation of the processing parameters in SLS of polymer products and gives a diagram for the determination of which parameters are the best to use for practical purposes.

The anaerobic co-digestion of high strength industrial wastewaters in centralised plants receiving effluents from various local small scale industries is considered to be superior than individual small scale treatment plants. An approach is proposed to systematically tackle co-digestion problems, with respect to both biological and engineering models. In a steady-state mathematical model presented, the effect of combining wastewaters in mixtures, based on major component groups (i.e. lipids, hydrocarbons and proteins), is systematically accounted for. The model is then solved via a non-linear optimisation program (NLP) which results in the determination of an optimal design of the necessary reactors and their respective layout, by balancing the natural trade-offs between reactor and post-treatment costs (due to high pollutants emissions). The preparation of appropriate mixtures is the major parameter controlled. The applicability and potential of the model are demonstrated with a small example.
