To address diverse interaction needs of heterogeneous users' groups, user interfaces must be flexible to accommodate for customization that are specific to each user profile. Although, existing web interfaces provide some flexibility, some problems still remain: a) manual adjustments carried out by end users are required for each web application; b) the flexibility provided by current web interfaces is insufficient to address diverse interaction needs of various users' profiles and c) few users are aware about such options to customize the presentation of web interfaces. To contribute to the customization of user interface according to the needs of diverse users, in this work we asses the suitability of a tool that customize web interfaces based on the needs and preferences of end users. UIFlex is a web-based browser plugin that enables users to define their interaction profile. In this task, users are supported by fifteen web-based design rules that were extracted from the literature and the knowledge of authorities. To customize the presentation of web interfaces, UIFlex relies on a set of rules defined for each individual user and "injects" JavaScript codes, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and in some cases HyperText Markup Language (HTML) codes in any page that follows W3C standards. UIFlex was evaluated by 104 users of diverse interaction profiles. The results obtained are promising and suggest that the solution improves the perception that the interactive system performs as desired by users.

On 3rd November, 1993, ESIS announced its Homepage on the World Wide Web (WWW) to the user community. Ever since then, ESIS has steadily increased its Web support to the astronomical community to include a bibliographic service, the ESIS catalogue documentation and the ESIS Data Browser. More functionality will be added in the near future. All these services share a common ESIS structure that is used by other ESIS user paradigms such as the ESIS Graphical User Interface (Giommi and Ansari, 1993), and the ESIS Command Line Interface. A forms-based paradigm, each ESIS-Web application interfaces to the hypertext transfer protocol (http) translating queries from/to the hypertext markup language (html) format understood by the NCSA Mosaic interface. In this paper, we discuss the ESIS system and show how each ESIS service works on the World Wide Web client.

Zidan Jaya Motor is a company that serves the sale and purchase of used motorcycles, from various brands and types of motorcycles. The problem that is often encountered is the ineffectiveness of sales services in terms of time and effort because they still use manual data collection in the company's parent book. The purpose of this research is to design a web-based used motorcycle sales application. This sales information system planning uses the SDLC (system development life cycle) development method with the PHP (hypertext markup language) programming language. This sales application makes it easy for Zidan Jaya Motor to manage goods data, sales reports, optimize services and maintain company data security. With the support of human resources and computerized information systems.

Change is afoot in the academic library world. The World Wide Web has expanded the types of services academic librarians are able to provide their patrons. We can now offer Web-based electronic databases, WebPACS, electronic journals, electronic reserve systems with Web-interfaces and a wide range of specialized digital library collections. Our patrons now have access to a huge variety of information, and they no longer have to leave their offices or homes to obtain it. Future developments include improved information retrieval algorithms, chic user-interfaces, advanced network services and virtual libraries created to serve the growing population of distance and online learners. Academic librarians face a world of exploding digital resources and their assistance in organizing this chaotic web of information is vital.

AbstractProgramming environments have evolved from purely text based to using graphical user interfaces, and now we see a move toward web-based interfaces, such as Jupyter. Web-based interfaces allow for the creation of interactive documents that consist of text and programs, as well as their output. The output can be rendered using web technology as, for example, text, tables, charts, or graphs. This approach is particularly suitable for capturing data analysis workflows and creating interactive educational material. This article describes SWISH, a web front-end for Prolog that consists of a web server implemented in SWI-Prolog and a client web application written in JavaScript. SWISH provides a web server where multiple users can manipulate and run the same material, and it can be adapted to support Prolog extensions. In this article we describe the architecture of SWISH, and describe two case studies of extensions of Prolog, namely Probabilistic Logic Programming and Logic Production System, which have used SWISH to provide tutorial sites.

Web applications, which are computer programs ported to the Web, allow end-users to use various remote services and tools through their Web browsers. There are an enormous number of Web applications on the Web, and they are becoming the basic infrastructure of everyday life. In spite of the remarkable development of Web-based infrastructure, it is still difficult for end-users to compose new integrated tools of both existing Web applications and legacy local applications, such as spreadsheets, chart tools, and database. In this chapter, the authors propose a new framework where end-users can wrap remote Web applications into visual components, called pads, and functionally combine them together through drag-and-drop operations. The authors use, as the basis, a meme media architecture IntelligentPad that was proposed by the second author. In the IntelligentPad architecture, each visual component, called a pad, has slots as data I/O ports. By pasting a pad onto another pad, users can integrate their functionalities. The framework presented in this chapter allows users to visually create a wrapper pad for any Web application by defining HTML nodes within the Web application to work as slots. Examples of such a node include input-forms and text strings on Web pages. Users can directly manipulate both wrapped Web applications and wrapped local legacy tools on their desktop screen to define application linkages among them. Since no programming expertise is required to wrap Web applications or to functionally combine them together, end-users can build new integrated tools of both wrapped Web applications and local legacy applications.

<p class="apa">In the recent years, the globalization and massification of video education offer involved more and more eLearning scenarios within universities. This article refers to interactive video and proposes an overview of it. We analyze the background information, regarding the eLearning campus used in virtual universities around the world, the MOOC movement in the last year, and the related interactive video platforms in the (education) field. At the same time, we pay particular attention to technical aspects of the interactive video: defining concept, types of video metadata, media fragments and types of annotations, as primordial elements that bring interactivity. We tested some free and commercial interactive web application. We gathered all the ideas. We propose a framework for an interactive system web based on the main modules: video resource management (production, transcoding and storage), annotations, Linked Open Data, distribution medium, player interface, data analytics and recommendation system. On the way, we offer our findings, together with our recommendations for an annotation interface and player module. It is our idea for Politehnica University Timisoara, either as a standalone solution or a complement to actual virtual campus (http://cv.upt.ro) depending on future development plans and financial aspects.</p>

This paper proposes a novel computational model that allows the dynamic adaptation of the information to be presented to the user in the frame of a web application. In adaptive web-based hypermedia systems, content and presentation are usually dealt with independently and sequentially, generating content first and then adapting its presentation. By contrast, our approach is based on the idea that it is impossible to select the best content and the best presentation independently, but effective user-system interaction can only be achieved through a joint assessment of content characteristics and presentation alternatives. Consequently, the goal of the approach is to determine the best match between a set of contents eligible to be presented to the user and a collection of possible presentations. To this end, the quality of a match is assessed on the basis of a set of user interface design principles focused on the relations existing between content and presentation. These principles express different and often contrasting exigencies and are generally articulated in vague and merely qualitative terms. In our approach they are formalized as soft constraints to be satisfied to the highest possible degree. A fuzzy approach is adopted to compute the degree to which a match satisfies each principle and to aggregate the results of the application of a set of interface design principles to a match. The proposed approach is substantiated through a running example in the area of e-commerce.
