For centuries, macrofungi have been used as food and medicine in different parts of the world. This is mainly attributed to their nutritional value as a potential source of carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, and minerals. In addition, they also include many bioactive metabolites which make mushrooms and truffles common components in folk medicine, especially in Africa, the Middle East, China, and Japan. The reported medicinal effects of mushrooms include anti-inflammatory effects, with anti-inflammatory compounds of mushrooms comprising a highly diversified group in terms of their chemical structure. They include polysaccharides, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, and many other low molecular weight molecules. The aims of this review are to report the different types of bioactive metabolites and their relevant producers, as well as the different mechanisms of action of mushroom compounds as potent anti-inflammatory agents.

While the use of vinegar to fi ght against infections and other crucial conditions dates back to Hippocrates, recent research has found that vinegar consumption has a positive effect on biomarkers for diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Different types of vinegar have been used in the world during different time periods. Vinegar is produced by a fermentation process. Foods with a high content of carbohydrates are a good source of vinegar. Review of the results of different studies performed on vinegar components reveals that the daily use of these components has a healthy impact on the physiological and chemical structure of the human body. During the era of Hippocrates, people used vinegar as a medicine to treat wounds, which means that vinegar is one of the ancient foods used as folk medicine. The purpose of the current review paper is to provide a detailed summary of the outcome of previous studies emphasizing the role of vinegar in treatment of different diseases both in acute and chronic conditions, its in vivo mechanism and the active role of different bacteria.

Background: Essential oils are complex mixtures of low molecular weight compounds extracted from plants. Their main constituents are terpenes and phenylpropanoids, which are responsible for their biological and pharmaceutical properties, such as insecticidal, parasiticidal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antinociceptive, anticarcinogenic, and antitumor properties. Cancer is a complex genetic disease considered as a serious public health problem worldwide, accounting for more than 8 million deaths annually. Objective: The activities of prevention and treatment of different types of cancer and the medicinal potential of essential oils are addressed in this review. Conclusion: Several studies have demonstrated anti-carcinogenic and antitumor activity for many essential oils obtained from various plant species. They may be used as a substitution to or in addition to conventional anti-cancer therapy. Although many studies report possible mechanisms of action for essential oils compounds, more studies are necessary in order to apply them safely and appropriately in cancer therapy.

The new series of substituted N-(phenylcarbamothioyl)benzamide derivatives (2a-2f) was designed, development and synthesized by using conventional and microwave method. In present work 6 different N-(phenylcarbamothioyl)benzamide were synthesized. Substituted benzoyl chloride is converted into benzoyl isothiocyanate by esterification. Benzoyl isothiocyanate is converted into Substituted (phenylcarbamothioyl)benzamide by treating with different types of substituted aniline. Confirmation of the chemical structure of the synthesized was substantiated by TLC, IR, 1H NMR, MS spectroscopy.Novel synthesized compounds screened for their in vivo and in-vitro anti-inflammatory studies and compound 2f shows promising anti-inflammatory activity.

Cancer is an abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells that spreads through cell division. There are different types of medicines available to treat cancers, but no drug is found to be fully effective and safe for humans. The major problem involved in the cancer treatments is the toxicity of the established drug and their side effects. Medicinal plants are used as folk medicines in Asian and African populations for thousands of years. 60% of the drugs for treating cancer are derived from plants. More than 3000 plants have anticancer activity. The present review aims at the study of a broad spectrum survey of plants having anticancer components for different type of cancers. This article consists of 364 medicinal plants and their different parts as potential Source of Anticancer Agents.

Although Hypericum species are best known as plants that produce hypericin and are used in folk medicine, their other chemical constituents are poorly understood. Polyphenolic secondary metabolites from whole plants of representative Korean Hypericum species ( H. laxum Koidz., H. erectum Thunb., and H. ascyron L.) were analyzed using a ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight/mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS)-based approach combined with unsupervised principal component analysis (PCA) multivariate analysis. On the loading scatter plot, significant changes in metabolites were found between species, and three flavonol glycosides (8: quercetin-3- O-galactoside, 12: kaempferol-3- O-glucoside, and 13: quercetin-3- O-rhamnoside) were evaluated as key markers among 17 isolated metabolites. The extracts of H. laxum Koidz. exhibited significant quenching effects on DPPH and ABTS radicals, with IC50 values of 10–20 μg/mL, and were slightly higher in total phenol (TP) and total flavonoid (TF) contents than other species. Additionally, anti-inflammatory activity was observed by reduced nitric oxide (NO) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) production from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages (RAW 264.7 cells). This is the first study to report the presence of bioactive metabolites and their correlating biological activities in H. laxum Koidz.

Senna alata is a medicinal herb of Leguminosae family. It is distributed in the tropical and humid regions. The plant is traditionally used in the treatment of typhoid, diabetes, malaria, asthma, ringworms, tinea infections, scabies, blotch, herpes, and eczema. The review is aimed at unveiling the ethnobotanical description and pharmacological activities of S. alata. Different parts of the plant are reported in folk medicine as therapeutic substances for remediation of diverse diseases and infections. The extracts and isolated compounds displayed pronounced pharmacological activities. Display of antibacterial, antioxidant, antifungal, dermatophytic, anticancer, hepatoprotective, antilipogenic, anticonvulsant, antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, antimalarial, anthelmintic, and antiviral activities could be due to the array of secondary metabolites such as tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenes, anthraquinone, saponins, phenolics, cannabinoid alkaloids, 1,8-cineole, caryophyllene, limonene, α-selinene, β-caryophyllene, germacrene D, cinnamic acid, pyrazol-5-ol, methaqualone, isoquinoline, quinones, reducing sugars, steroids, and volatile oils present in different parts of the plant. The review divulges the ethnobotanical and pharmacological activities of the plant and also justifies the ethnomedical claims. The significant medicinal value of this plant necessitates a scientific adventure into the bioactive metabolites which constitute various extracts.

Nepeta deflersiana (Lamiaceae) is a well-known medicinal plant that grows in Saudi Arabia. This plant is used in Saudi and Yemeni folk medicine as an anti-inflammatory, carminative, and antirheumatic agent. In order to prove its use in folk medicine, four different extracts from the aerial parts of the plant: petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol extracts were subjected to biological assays to screen PPARα and PPARϒ agnostic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic activities. Ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts of N. deflersiana NDEE and NDBE, respectively, showed a decrease in oxidative stress and inhibition of both NF-kB and iNOS activities with no cytotoxic effects on four human cancer cell lines. Both active extracts were standardized using two bioactive metabolites which were isolated from the aerial parts of the same plant [8-epi-7-deoxyloganic acid (compound 1) and Ursolic acid (compound 2)] by developing a validated HPTLC method. It was found to provide a sharp and compact band of compound 1 at Rf = 0.07 and Rf = 0.57 for compound 2, using chloroform, methanol, and formic acid (8.9:0.8:0.3, v/v/v) as mobile phase at 550 nm. Compounds 1 and 2 were found in NDEE by 9.59 %, w/w, and 84.63 %, w/w, respectively, and by 11.97 %, w/w, and 21.26 %, w/w, respectively, in NDBE.

Asafetida is well known for its medicinal and therapeutic values in Iranian folk medicine. This study was conducted to investigate the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of asafetida. In hot plate test, asafetida exhibited a significant antinociceptive effect at all administered doses and the most effective dose was 10 mg/kg. The highest maximum potent effect was observed 15 minutes after asafetida administration. The antinociceptive effect of asafetida was not reversed by administration of any antagonist used in this study but asafetida showed a remarkable antioxidant and also inhibitory action against lipoxygenase activity. Paw weight was significantly reduced only in treated animals with 2.5 mg/kg asafetida. Results clearly indicate that the asafetida could be a potential source of anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent. These effects may be due to its effective constituents such as monoterpenes, flavonoids and phenolic components that have antioxidant properties and inhibit lipoxygenase activity.

Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid used for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. In addition to these therapeutic indications, it is also recommended for nausea and vomiting treatment which may occur during the postoperative period, with impact on postoperative evolution, regarding the evolution of wound healing and length of stay (LOS), with a reflection on the costs of hospital admission. Therefore, their prevention is very important for both patients� comfort and a good recovery.

The paper presents the synthesis of a new complex combination of a Bis-Schiff base with Mn(II) ions with great potential for antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. A new complex of the Salen-type ligand, 1-ethyl-salicylidene-bis-ethylene diamine was synthetized using Mn(II) ions. The chemical structure was confirmed through 1H-NMR and IR spectroscopy. The antimicrobial activities of the Bis-Schiff base and its complex were tested in comparison with Ampicillin, Chloramphenicol, Tetracycline, Ofloxacin and Nystatin. Those compounds were found to be active against Gram-positive or Gram-negative bacteria, and had an anti-inflammatory effect comparable to that of Indomethacin.
