Background. Menopause is the expected end of reproductive life. Having a positive attitude towards it has been shown to result in a positive experience, while a negative attitude is associated with negative experiences and symptoms. Traditionally, women often abstain from sex after menopause. The study aimed to determine the level of awareness and perceptions about the menopause and sex in perimenopausal women attending a general outpatient clinic. Methods. Women over 40 years were recruited from the Family Medicine Department of University College Hospital, excluding those who were menopausal. Data analyses were done with chi-square test (p<0.05). Results. Most (302; 86.4%) of the 352 surveyed participants were aware of the menopause. Only 36.1% anticipated associated symptoms. About half (55.7%) were indifferent to menopause onset, while 23% had a positive attitude and 21.4% had a negative attitude, respectively. Younger women were less likely to have a positive attitude to the menopause (p=0.04). There were negative cultural beliefs towards sex. Sexual activity was low and declined with age (p<0.001). Many women would like treatment to improve their sexual activity. Conclusion. Most participants had a favourable disposition towards the menopause, though sexual relationships suffer. Counselling and treatment should be offered.

Background: Family medicine is a field in which complete and detailed set of healthcare services are provided to the patients and their families. In developed countries, freshly graduated students choose family medicine as a priority for their career. However, in Pakistan it is not the case. The present study is undertaken to determine the perceptions of final year medical students’ about Family Medicine as a viable career. Methods: A total number of 504 students participated in the study. This was a cross-sectional study. The study participants were in their final year of medical college. Data was collected using a preapproved questionnaire. Data was entered and analyzed via SPSS version 17 and Chi-Square test was used post-stratification. Results: Only 14.3% (n=72) medical students had heard about Family Medicine. Only 18% (n=92) would select family medicine as a profession. The most frequent rationale for choosing the field of Family Medicine was the variety of patients seen in general practice (55.4% n=51). Conclusion: There is a dire need to focus on increasing awareness about the field of family medicine among medical students. The students should be counseled on the advantages along with the disadvantages of choosing this field as a medical profession.

Currently, during the pandemic, the forced transition to distance learning carries a number of problems. These problems affect various aspects of education, including the study of students’ attitudes to distance learning. The purpose of this research is to study the features of the subjective attitude of schoolchildren and students to distance learning. This research involved 140 secondary school students (average age M = 10.7, SD = 7.2 (66.3% men)) and 30 university students (average age M = 22.5, SD = 2.4 (20% men)). The methods used were a questionnaire, Chi-square test and Criterion φ*. Fisher angular transformation. The study showed that schoolchildren do not intend to continue studying in the distance form if they choose, with a generally positive attitude towards distance learning. The self-assessment of motivation to study in a distance format has not changed, both among schoolchildren and students. Students are more likely to have a positive attitude to distance learning than schoolchildren. The variety of choices of advantages and disadvantages of distance learning is greater among students than among schoolchildren. The perspective of this study is thus to study the factors that determine the positive and negative attitudes to distance learning.

Background: Cervical cancer in young women is rare and disparity exists in its characteristics in the available reports. The study aimed to determine the disease burden and to compare its clinicopathological characteristics with older women. Materials and methods: Retrospective study was performed by retrieving data from the cancer registry for consecutive 843 cervical cancer patients treated in the center between 2017 and 2020. Patients were divided into younger (<40 years) and older (≥ 40 years) age. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software version 23 for windows. Chi square test was used for analyzing the categorical variables and P < 0.05 was considered signicant. Results: Cervical cancer in young women constituted 9.4%, with majority (96.2%) belonged to 30-39 years age. Higher prevalence of human immunodeciency virus (HIV) was found among younger compared to older women (P = 0.000). Younger women commonly presented late compared to older women (patients presented after 4 months are 49.4% vs. 18.8% respectively, P=0.000). Squamous cell carcinoma was commonest histology in both the groups and no difference in histology pattern between the two groups. Younger women had higher rate of bulky tumor (>4cm) compared to older (62.2% vs. 44.4%, P = 0.023). Conclusion: Delayed and advanced stage of presentation of cervical cancer in younger women in this region of India warrants promotion of health education, knowledge translation, regular cervical cancer screening for its prevention and early detection

A study was conducted in Kibaha Town Council of Pwani Region of Tanzania to survey the probable factors that negatively affected the anti-rabies vaccinations leading to low percent coverage in some selected wards. The data used in this study were gathered from households keeping dogs and cats and institutions, using a semi-structured questionnaire and interviews. Another set of data was the record of the rabies control programme at the district veterinary office. Analysis of the data was done using SPSS.16, Microsoft Excel 2007 and EpiInfoTM7. The enquiry instrument centred on three main fields, namely, knowledge of respondents about rabies, responsible dog ownership and their perception of issues pertaining to the conduct of the rabies control programme. The results showed that the last round of vaccination covered dogs for 57% of the sampled households in the selected wards. A huge percentage of the respondents (64%) kept the wrong perception that clinical rabies could be cured. Only 34% of the respondents indicated that they had been taught about rabies in a WHO project area. It was also learnt that there was an outbreak of rabies in the district after 2 years of consecutively vaccinating the dogs in the area. The Chi- square test for linear trends showed very highly significant statistical differences in the progression of numbers of dogs vaccinated over the years (p<0.05; = 0.0000). This study concludes that, lack of sufficient knowledge on rabies and negative attitude towards the control programme were the biggest drawbacks on the vaccination coverage.

Background: Although shreds of evidence are emerging to show the role of illness perceptions in the health outcomes of patients, most of the previous studies have been on single chronic conditions.Aim: To assess the illness perceptions and the associated factors amongst adults with multimorbidity.Setting: General outpatient clinics of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted amongst a systematic sample of 403 adults with multimorbidity. Data on illness perception and other variables were collected using interviewer-administered questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, t-test and analysis of variance were employed for analyses. Results: The age of the participants ranged from 18 to 97 years, with a mean of 60.9 years (standard deviation [s.d.] ± 14.3 years). The majority of participants (57.3%) were women. Ninety-four (23.3%) respondents had only two morbid conditions, whilst 31.2% had at least four morbid conditions. Prioritisation sub-domain of illness perception recorded the highest score (mean = 2.0, s.d. ± 0.8), whilst the treatment burden sub-domain was the lowest (mean = 0.8, s.d. ± 0.7). A significant bivariate relationship was observed between emotional representation (p = 0.001), prioritisation (p = 0.013) and causal relationship (p = 0.013) sub-domains and age group of study participants. Emotional burden associated with illnesses declined as educational level increased (p = 0.039).Conclusion: Patient’s characteristics such as age, education and the number of morbidities are associated with illness perception. Healthcare providers should pay attention to these factors whilst addressing illness perception as a way to achieve better clinical outcomes.

Background: Prevention of Surgical site infection (SSI) remains a focus of attention because wound infections continue to be a major source of expense, morbidity, and even mortality. Three quarters of deaths of surgical patients with SSIs are attributed to nosocomial infections, nearly all of which are organ/space infections. The objective of the present study was to estimate the incidence of SSI and to study the various risk factors associated with SSI.Methods: This is a prospective study of 180 eligible cases eligible subjects, who underwent various surgeries in the department of General Surgery after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study conducted at the Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Raichur. The tenure for the study was April 2017 to June 2017. Data was collected using pretested proforma. Data was analysed using SPSS version 16. Chi -square test and multiple logistic regression was applied to know the association between various risk factors and occurrence of SSI.Results: Among 180 patients 33 (18.33%) developed surgical site infections (SSI). Among 33 SSIs 25 (75.76%) were grade 3 and 8 (24.24%) were grade 4 infections. SSIs were found more commonly among patients over 50 years, diabetics, HIV infected patients, patients with longer duration of surgery and associations with these factors were found statistically significant. Conclusions: The incidence rate of SSI was quite high, and its end results will have a greater impact on patients as well as on healthcare systems. Prevention of SSI requires multipronged approach targeting both patient related and procedure related risk factors in pre- operative, intra-operative, and post-operative period.

e21714 Background: Compared to other regions, the burden of breast cancer (BC) in Mexico is disproportionately borne by younger women. Yet, their particular needs and concerns have remained understudied, including treatment-related sexual adverse effects. We aim to assess the sexual function and satisfaction in Mexican young women with BC undergoing treatment. Methods: This is a prospective sexual assessment study in BC patients of the pilot phase of the Joven y Fuerte Mexican cohort (N=96). Sexual health was assessed using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and the Sexual Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) at two points in time: baseline (BL) and 6-months follow-up (6-FU). FSFI and SSI scores lower than 26.55 and 111, respectively, were defined as sexual morbidity. Differences between proportions of BL and 6-FU were examined with Pearson chi-square test. Matched t-tests were used to test for differences in the domains of the FSFI and in the SSI total score. Results: 70 women completed the FSFI at both time points and 69 the SSI. Our results showed a high percentage of sexual dysfunction among Mexican women at BL and 6-FU (61.4% and 74.3%, respectively, p<0.001), as well as an elevated proportion of sexual low satisfaction at both time lines (40.6% and 43.5%, p=0.004). Most 6-FU FSFI domain scores were significantly worse than those at BL (Table 1). There were no significant differences in the SSI total score (102.31 [BL] vs 96.11 [6-FU], p=0.16). Conclusions: Mexican young patients with BC report significant sexual morbidity at BL, which even worsens after the first short follow-up. Reasons for the low sexual performance among Mexican women remain understudied and should be actively sought. In this prospective study, data will be annually collected for five years. This information will provide valuable information in an often-neglected matter of BC patients’ care. [Table: see text]
