Freshwater fish species are posing health challenges by either serving as host of parasites that are harmful to man and animals. This study was conducted to determine the parasitic profile of the branchial and gastrointestinal tracts of freshwater fish species from Niger and Benue rivers at Lokoja. These fish species are Tilapia zillii, Oreochromis niloticus, Clarias species, Synodontis schall, and Megalops atlanticus. Fish samples were collected within a period of 12 months, and the species and sex of the fish were identified. The two opercula of each fish were removed and examined for parasites; parasites recovered were preserved in 0.7% physiological saline. Gastrointestinal tracts were removed from each fish, placed in physiological saline, and examined microscopically for parasites. Prevalence of parasites was calculated. The chi-square test was used to compare prevalence of parasites according to sexes, body parts examined, fish species, and parasites species, while the t-test was used to compare between gills and intestines of each fish species. The chi-square test was used to determine if any significant difference exists in prevalence between the sexes, body parts, fish species, and parasites species, while the t-test was used to determine if any significant difference exists in prevalence between the gills and intestines of each fish species. A total of seven parasites species were harboured in branchial chamber and gastrointestinal tracts of fish species from rivers Niger and Benue: Clinostomum sp. (trematode), Camallanus sp. (nematode), Capillaria sp., Rhabdochona congolensis (nematode), Contracaecum sp. (nematode), Proteocephalus sp. (cestode), and Spinitectus guntheri. T. zillii (81 (95.3%)) had the highest prevalence, while O. niloticus, Clarias sp., S. schall, and M. atlanticus had prevalence of 87 (89.7%), 96 (80.0%), 48 (70.6%), and 27 (38.6%), respectively. Out of the total fish samples examined, females (191 (80.3%)) were observed to harbour more parasites than males (148 (73.3%)). The gastrointestinal tracts (287 (65.2%)) significantly harboured more parasites than branchial chamber (52 (11.8%)). Fish species in rivers Niger and Benue are highly infected with parasites. Fish consumers should subject the fish to proper processing before consumption, as some of these parasites are of zoonotic importance.

Radiographic Mandibular Indices serve as easy and relatively cheap tools for evaluating bone mineralization. Objectives: To examine the effect of age and gender on three mandibular indices: the panoramic mandibular index (PMI), the mandibular ratio (MR) and the mandibular cortical index (MCI), among Libyan population. Methods: The three indices were measured on 317 digital (OPGs) of adult humans (155 males, 162 females). The sample was divided into six age groups (from 18-25 years through 56-65 years). The measurements were analyzed for interactions with age and sex, using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Studies) software version no. 22. The tests employed were two way ANOVA, the unpaired T-test and chi-square test. Results: The mean PMI fluctuated between 0.37 s.d. 0.012 and 0.38 s.d. 0.012. among the sixth age groups. One-way ANOVA statistical test revealed no significant of age on PMI. On the other hand gender variation has effect on PMI, since independent sample t-test disclosed that the difference between the male and female PMI means statistically significant. ANOVA test showed that the means of MR among age groups showed a negative correlation i.e. MR mean declined from 3.01 in 18-25 age groups to 2.7 in 55-65 age groups. In contrary, the gender showed no effect on MR according two sample t-test at p> 0.05. In regards with MCI, statistical analysis showed that it affected by age that is C1 was decreasing by age while C2 and C3 were increased by age. Using chi square test the result indicated that there is a significant difference among the different age group and the two genders in MCI readings. Conclusion: PMI was influenced significantly by age but minimally by the gender. MR is not affected by gender but has a negative correlation with age. MCI is affected by both age and gender

Abstractwas to assess efficacy of Tadalafil alone versus Tadalafil plus Pentoxifylline in the treatment of erectile dysfunction by using self administered IIEF-5 questionnaire.Two hundred and thirty seven patients presenting with ED at andrology OPD were evaluated for ED by a self administered IIEF (International Index of Erectile Function) questionnaire. Patients were systematically randomized by computer generated random table into two groups groups namely, group A: Tadalafil only group, group B: combination of Tadalafil + Pentoxifyl-line. All the patients were re-assessed by IIEF-5 questionnaire after 8 weeks of medical therapy. Statistical analysis was performed using student’s unpaired t-test, paired t-test, chi square test. p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Two hundred and thirty seven patients were included in the present study, in group A: 92 patients (78.6%) showed improvement in their IIEF score after 8 weeks of tadalafil treatment. While in group B, overall 104 patients(86.6%) showed improvement after combination of Tadalafil and Pentoxifylline. There was a statistically significant difference of percentage change in IIEF score was seen in group B (group A 90.7±15.2%, group B 95.6±13.4%; p value – 0.014). We found this difference even more statistically significant in patients with severe ED (group A 72.7±47.2%, group B 132.3±54.3%; p value – 0.000). There was no significant difference in between the two groups with regards to occur-rence of side effects.Both tadalafil and combination of Tadalafil + Pentoxifylline improve erectile function in patients of ED. Patients with severe ED showed much significant improvement in erectile function with combination therapy.

ABSTACTResearch was conducted to determine the patterns of Brahmana Shiva fingerprint in Bali. The fingerprint samplesas many as 240 people, which consist of 120 men and 120 women from four generation of Brahmana Shiva in Bali. Thefingerprints were collected using a fingerprint pad then the data were analyzed using Chi–Square test, Student-t test,Dankmerijer index and Furuhata index. The result of fingerprints examination shown that there were four fingerprintspattern i.e. arch (A), loop ulnar (LU), loop radial (LR), and whorl (W) from four sub clan (Brahmana Manuaba, Kemenuh,Keniten, Mas), with different frequencies and anequal distribution from each fingers and both hands. The arch (A) patternin clan Brahmana Manuaba and Kemenuh have the same 0.83 % frequencies, while the frequencies of Keniten 1.17 % andMas 1.67 %. The frequencies of Loop ulnar (LU) pattern from clan Brahmana Mas were 42.66 %, Manuaba 36 %, Keniten39 %, and Kemenuh 34.33 %. The frequency of loop radial (LR) pattern from clan Brahmana Manuaba were 42.17 %,Keniten 41.83 %, Mas 37.83 %, and Kemenuh 29.51 %. The frequencies of whorl (W) pattern from sub clan BrahmanaKemenuh, Manuaba, Keniten, and Mas were 35.33 %, 22 %, 18 %, and 17.83 %, respectively. The result show asignificant differences between sub clan Mas and Kemenuh using Dankmerijer Index (DI). The result show a significantdifferences between sub clan Kemenuh with Mas, Keniten and Manuaba using Furuhata Index (FI). Total Ridge Countbetween men and women of Brahmana Shiva offspring showed unsignificantly diferences at level 5%. However, there wasa significant difference of Total Ridge Count from sub clan Manuaba with Mas, Kemenuh, and Keniten.Keywords : fingerprints, arch, loop, whorl, clan brahmana shiva.

<p class="Default"><em>The purpose of this research is to know whether or not there are differences of learning outcomes of students of class X TKJ 1 and X TKJ 2 between those using a constructivism approach and those using an open-ended approach in learning mathematics in statistics chapter. The research method used is a quasi-experiment with population of students of SMK TERPADU HUTAMA and with samples of 68 people simply and randomly taken by using a self-developed instrument in the form of test about Mathematics Learning Outcomes. The research data for the experimental and controlled classes are collected by analyzing the test using t test, while the normality analysis requirement is analyzed by testing with chi-square test and homogeneity with F test. The result of the research shows that there is a significant difference between students’ learning outcomes through constructivism approach and through an open-ended approach to mathematics learning in SMK TERPADU HUTAMA. From the research results, it can be concluded that the constructivism approach is better than the open-ended approach in statistics learning because the former can encourage the development of individual’s skill in the classroom.</em></p>

Introduction Mediterranean diet has shown a protective role against cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer onset, microvascular damage and dementia in many trials. Our purpose is the assessment of a correlation between physical activity, Mediterranean diet, body mass index (BMI), depression and erection disorder (ED). Methods After having signed disclaimer to the study participation, we administered the IIEF 15 questionnaire (International Index of Erectil Function), the Hamilton questionnaire for major depression, the Med-Diet Questionnaire, the Ipaq Questionnaire (International Index of Physical Activity) to 245 patients and calculated the BMI. Only 141 were eligible. We excluded patients with a history of smoking, with obesity from the second grade to rise, anorexia, hyperlipidemia, Induratio Penis Plastica, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurological disease, hypogonadism, prostatitis, diabetes, hypertension, psychiatric diseases and the history of radical prostatectomy and finally age >72 and <50 years or who were taking cholesterol-lowering medication. Patients were divided into two groups: 65 patients without ED and 76 patients with ED. Results We found a statistically difference in BMI between the groups. Adherence to Med-Diet showed a significant difference between the two groups at Student t-test and the Chi-square test. The Ipaq test and Hamilton test did not show statistical differences between the two groups neither for Student t-test nor for Chi-square test, but high levels seem to be protective factors. Conclusions Body weight and a healthy diet are protective factors against the ED, more than a sufficient physical activity. Depression has shown only a worsening tendency of the erection.

Introduction. The link between the action of thyroid hormones and neurological, cognitive and affective function is well known. The aim of the study is to evaluate the changes of hormone’s value and symptoms at hyperthyroid patients after 6 months and 1 year of treatment. Materials and methods. In our study, we enrolled 80 patients with hyperthyroidism (new cases) and we asked them to fill out a questionnaire three times: first time was when they were into a thyrotoxic state (before the antithyroid drug therapy – ATD) and after that during ATD treatment (when they were into an euthyroid state after 6-12 months of treatment, average 7 months). Results. There is no statistically significant difference between the ages of the study and control groups (p Student’s t -test = 0.207 > 0.005), nor between the distributions according to gender (p Chi square test = 0.827) or area of residence (p Chi square test = 0.820). For HAMD score, there is highly significant differences (p < 0.001) before treatment, a statistically significant difference after 6 months (p Student’s t-test = 0.015 < 0.05), and no statistically significant difference after 1 year. Conclusion. Depression and anxiety were improved following thyroid function normalization in hyperthyroidism.

Background: Simulation-based education has become more prominent in recent years. In our university, we have begun to use simulation at various levels in the curriculum. Objectives: We decided to utilize simulation to meet the challenges of teaching medical students in the operating theatre, which have slowly risen over the years at our place of practice. Methods: A total of 120 final year medical students posted to anesthesia were divided into two groups and exposed to two different operating theatre (OT) teaching environments: Group I: Actual OT and group 2: Simulated OT. The performance of the two groups on 25 MCQs was compared using the chi-square test and independent t-test. Results: The chi-square test showed no significant difference between the groups in the number of students who passed the test at the end of the posting [χ2 (2, N = 119) = 2.375, P > 0.05]. An independent t-test carried out on the test scores showed that the actual OT group (M = 10.15, SD = 2.284) performed better than the simulated OT group (M = 9.04, SD = 2.528), and it was statistically significant [t (112) = 3.265, P = 0.001]. Conclusions: There was no difference in terms of pass or fail between the two groups suggesting that OT learning could be simulated. However, the actual OT group had overall better scores statistically. Thus the depth of learning may be better with actual OT teaching, especially because the teaching and learning occur in the real environment. Until further research suggests that simulated OT can replace actual OT learning for undergraduates, we plan to use the simulated OT as a bridge towards actual OT learning.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory, relapsing and remitting disease with no cure till date. There is a paucity of trials using a combination of methotrexate (MTX) and cyclosporine (CsA) in chronic plaque psoriasis, due to fear of added toxicity, although they are time tested treatment options for monotherapy. Aims: The study aimed to compare the efficacy and adverse effect profile of the standard recommended dose of MTX (i.e. 0.3mg/kg/week) versus a combination of reduced doses of MTX and CsA (i.e. MTX 0.15 mg/kg/week with CsA 2.5mg/kg/day) in patients with chronic plaque psoriasis. Methods: Study design was a non-blinded randomised controlled trial. Patients of chronic plaque psoriasis with PASI more than 10 were randomised in 1: 1 allocation to receive either 0.3 mg/kg/week of intramuscular MTX injection or a combination of 0.15 mg/kg/week of intramuscular MTX injection and 2.5 mg/kg/day of CsA rounded off to the nearest 25 mg. Patients were followed up at every 2 weeks for 12 weeks. The doses were kept fixed throughout the study period. Results: A total of 66 patients received MTX monotherapy, whereas 67 patients received the combination. At baseline, both groups were comparable in their BSA (P = 0.105, Student t-test) and PASI (P = 0.277, Student t-test), which reduced significantly at 12 weeks in both groups (P < 0.001, paired t-test). The achievement of PASI-75 (P = 0.005), PASI-90 (P < 0.001) and PASI-100 (P = 0.001) was more in the combination group (Chi square test). Intention to treat analysis using Chi square test also showed better outcomes for PASI-75 (P = 0.027), PASI-90 (P < 0.001) and PASI-100 (P = 0.001) in the combination group. Combination group also had earlier onset of action (P = 0.001, Chi square test). There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of laboratory and clinical adverse events. Limitations: Non-blinded, no comparison with CsA monotherapy arm, no follow up beyond 12 weeks. Conclusion: The combination of reduced doses of MTX and CsA is more efficacious with earlier onset of action and similar adverse effects as with MTX monotherapy.

This paper focus on the seafood consumption attitudes and behaviours of the millennials (Generation Y) and non-millennials (Generation X, Baby Boomers and Silent Generation) comparatively. The data was collected from a face to face survey which was applied to randomly select 407 individuals in the city of Adana, Turkey in November 2016. As a result of factor analysis applied in the study, it was found that Millennials was significantly and inversely correlated with consumption of wild fish and freshwater fish. Non-millennial generation was inversely correlated with consumption of marine fish, freshwater fish and mussels and the correlation is insignificant. According to the results of the chi square test, it was determined that Millennials mostly preferred to consume fresh (unprocessed) fish. Mann-Whitney test results show that they value health and nutrition factors for consumption and there is a significant difference between these two factors. Besides, factors mainly effecting their purchase behaviour of seafood are directed to freshness, seasonality, place of purchase and wild-aquaculture product classification and there are significant differences between these factors. The fact that the Millennial’s average response to consumption and purchasing is higher indicates that they are more cautious.
